  • [SOLVED] Intel 4000 HD: 3D acceleration?

    Hi guys! I just installed arch linux on my HP Sleekbook, which has a Intel 4000 HD GPU.
    I've installed xf86-video-intel, intel-dri, libva-intel-driver and lib32-intel-dri. I also edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.con and added the tear free configuration.
    From KDE System Settings, I chose OpenGL 3.1 Native. The UI runs quite smootly, but KInfoCenter says that I've no 3D acceleration.
    My question is whether it's normal or not. If not, what should I do?

    Well, rather funny, just took a better look at your screenshot. Notice that blue glow around the window? That's a window shadow which would not be there if kwin effects are not working.
    Actaually, on that same screenshot, it says 3D Accelerator: unknown not 3D Acceleration: unknown. It just can't reconise the model name of the graphics chip.
    If you want t confirm your 3d accel is working, just run:
    glxinfo|grep direct
    If it says "yes", you're good no matter what Kinfocenter is thinking it knows or doesn't.
    I can confirm that it says yes! I assume that the Intel 4000 HD is correctly configured. In fact, KDE effects are smooth and good loking (thanks to tearfree configuration).
    Thank you for your support man!

  • I just bought a 2012 Mac Mini from the Apple Store Refurbished Mac Mini 2.3 i7 16 gig 256 SSD Intel 4000

    If Intel 4000 Graphics uses up to 1024 gigs of Integrated where does it get it from if the computer only has a 256 SSD
    I want to run Final Cut Pro X for video editing.
    Will this computer set up do that?
    I know I need external media storage but what about the computer and graphics running FCP X for editing?

    Are you asking the same question you've already posted in this ASC area?
    The RAM (random access memory) is available to the System, and 1024MB
    is 1GB. Your Solid State Drive is 256GB, or add many zeros to the MB figure.
    The SSD or an HDD is storage, also where your OS X & apps live. Spare SSD
    capacity could be used by the OS X as Virtual Memory. Another related topic.
    You may need to acquire and use an external drive via Thunderbolt for storage
    and that may be best if also an SSD since they are faster than hard disk drives
    so may not lag too much with when accessed by Thunderbolt cable by the OS X.
    Not sure if you understand the specifications and how they pertain to the Mac.
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Intel 4000 problem

    i have 13-inch, Mid 2012 and i installed win 7 on it using boot camp but the intel 4000 graphic shows only 64 mb and i knew it is 512 mb how i can make it 512 mb on win

    Hi:
    Your model comes with the AMD/Intel switchable graphics.
    That means the only driver you can install is the AMD driver from your PC's support and driver page.
    If you force the Intel graphics driver to install, your switchable graphics will no longer function.
    That is why you are getting the error when you try to install the standalone Intel driver.

  • Screen flickring/blinking on intel 4000 card with dual monitors

    Hi community,
    I have Samsung series 9 laptop with Intel 4000 card on board. I have two 23" monitors attached to this laptop via hdmi and vga. I have this weird screen flicker issue even on one monitor attached to the laptop.
    Tried some tips like i915.powersave=0 on boot load. But seems nothing is working atm. It is not that bad, but very annoying at times specially for eyes.

  • Intel 4000 graphics failure both windows and linux on thinkpad edge s430

    After 5-30 minutes the screen breaks up in flickering (or just black) and system freezes. I need to turn off computer. After restart the error occurs again quickly.
    This occurs regardless if I boot to windows or into a linux bootable dvd.
    But
    Remote desktop connection to the computer and it works fine for days .
    ->
    Thus I believe it is the intel 4000 graphics that has some hardware failure which is not invoked upon remote desktop.
    I wonder if this is a known issue?
    I wonder if only a replacement of the intel 4000 graphics will fix this (this probably means replacing the main board entirely?)
    Or
    If it is in any way likely that it is _only_ because maybe thermal paste between cooler and cpu/graphics is slipping?
    Lenovo Thinkpad Edge S430
    Intel I7 + Intel HD 4000
    No additional graphics

    Have you tried setting up the connection manually?
    e.g.
    /etc/init.d/networkmanager stop
    #Unlock wireless devices
    rfkill unblock all
    #enable interface
    ifconfig wlan0 up
    #check network visibility
    iwlist wlan0 scanning
    #configure wifi
    iwconfig wlan0 essid <ESSID>
    iwconfig tx auto
    and then set up wpa_supplicant in case you use WPA2!
    #Get ip address
    dhclient wlan0
    One thing I regularly miss when getting a new wifi device is to add it to the MAC filter list of my router, so check if the MAC address is added there...

    I has a problem and I am not able to solve that when I use sound effect it is showed only headphone even I did not installing the headphone I has a problem and I am not able to solve that I am. Not able to hear the sound without headphone please help guys

    Sounds to me like a hardware issue or maybe something is stuck in the headphone jack. When you plug in headphones, the jack in the iPad is switched to play only through the headphones and not the iPad's speakers. Sounds like either the jack is faulty or there is something stuck in the headphone jack. Get a flashlight & look inside the jack for anything that looks like it doesn't belong in there.
    Regardless, I'd take it in to an Apple Store if you have one nearby to have it checked.
    EDIT: "Ocean20" had an excellent suggestion above. While doing that, you may also want to rotate/twist the plug in the jack back & forth a few times as well. Dirty contacts can often times be cleared by doing this.

  • [SOLVED] No sound on SPDIF with Intel ICH10 Sound Card

    Hi everyone,
    I'm coming from Fedora 12 and recently got a fresh installed Archlinux. I'm very satisfied by the distribution and everything works just as expect for the moment, except one thing : SPDIF output of my sound card.
    I installed the following packages :

    ALSA firmware package

    The following command :

    gives me sound on the analog (HP) output but this one :
    $ aplay -D iec958:CARD=Intel,DEV=0 tmp/Norrlanda.wav
    gives absolutly nothing (I tested the HDMI output and it's fully functionnal).
    I unmuted everything that could be unmuted on alsamixer and tested varied combo of options snd_hda_intel model=XXXX (as I read that those type of card can have issue of this kind). I try to delete the /etc/asound.state file, various configuration in /etc/asound.conf. But nothing.
    In last resort, I rebooted on a F12 LiveCD and there… everything works fine ! The SPDIF output works just great, without any manipulation (with the same command as above). I tried to import the configuration of /etc/alsa, /etc/pulse and /etc/modprobe.d from this F12 LiveCD (looking if there was any special options about sound card I can just copy/paste to Archlinux) but this failed one more time.
    I really really don't see what I can do to solve this problem (and I already spend 2 entire days on this issue without any result… frustrating). So if someone's got a solution or suggestion (some configurations I can try) on this issue, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thx to jonnor on the IRC Archlinux Channel, it works now !!
    For everyone experiencing the same problem with DG45 intel sound card (Codec: IDT 92HD73E1X5 to be accurate), the documented module is not the right one. Use model=no-jd if you want to have the SPDIF output functionnal.

  • [SOLVED] After migrating to x86_64 Intel HDA sound no longer works

    I've been using ArchLinux x86 on the same system for quite a while, but I decided to give x86_64 a try again so I reinstalled Arch (by reinstall I mean a clean one - including / partition format).
    Whenever I try to play a sound "socket(): Address family not supported by protocol" error comes up. If the same application tries to access audio devices again, no error is being repeatedly outputed again, thus it still hangs for a few seconds. For instance, if I receive a new mail on Thunderbird application, it has to play a sound while showing a notification, but not only that it doesn't, it also hangs for a few seconds.
    "alsaconf" does not find my sound card, even though it is listed in lspci:
    ernestas ~ $ lspci | grep dio
    00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)

    I've tried many solutions I could find online, but none worked. ALSA did find my card while using x86 version of ArchLinux with newest packages. Could anyone help me out?

  • Hd intel 4000 code 43 on windows 8.1 - It only works with an older driver version

    Hi there I have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14 PC (HP Pavilion Ultrabook 14), with  a 18FA motherboard - version 82.23,  F.12 Bios, and a Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000.  The graphic card only works with the 9.17.10.2932 (12/12/2012) driver, and everytime I try to update to a newer driver version, it shows the "Code 43" error. Does anyone knows how to update the drive and solve the "Code 43" error? Without solving this issue, I can't install the Windows 10. I've tried to update to Windows 10, but it doesn't run this old graphic display driver and it only gives me a blue screen, and if I install a new driver version, there it comes the "Code 43" error. Thank you, guys.

    Hi  ,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
    I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion14 Sleekbook and issues with the Drivers for Windows 8.1. If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system updates, try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix the problem.
    I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Why Intel (R) sound driver in addition to Realtek Hi Def driver for T430s

    Trying to figure out why I BSOD's with no apparent reason. I see TWO sound drivers in the device manager, Intel (R) Display audio and Realtek Hi Def audio. If I uninstall the Intel driver, it reinstalls itself on reboot, meaning it must see some hardware (?).
    This is for the T430s with Intel HD display LENOVO 23532LU
    So, are there TWO sound cards (unlikely) in that T430s, or is it some sort of glitch, and if so is it acceptable to leave as is or is there a cleanup to do?

    Mini DisplayPort - sounds v. plausible - thanks -  I just checked over the orginal Win7 Pro 64 as it came factory fresh and it did have both drivers installed. So this is definitely normal, and probably not related to the BSOD which actually happened right after I upgraded the IE browser to IE 10 (after crash and reboot it loaded new windows updates as if I had done a windows update). So now I think it must have been IE10 browser interaction with graphics drivers that must have been the cause).

  • [SOLVED] Problems with intel driver on Y510p

    Hi,
    I recently decided to get a Y510p, but somehow can't get the intel driver to work. For now I don't need the nvidia card that is in my laptop so I disabled it via bumblebee. However if I try booting without the kernel option nomodeset the screens turns turns blank after
    running early hook [udev]
    So the backlight is still on, but nothing is shown. When I use nomodeset the vesa driver is used because the intel driver requires modeset, but I can't find a way to modify my backlight setting with the vesa driver. Also, when I use the vesa driver, after
    running early hook [udev]
    it says
    [drm:drm_pci_agp_init] *ERROR* Cannot initialize the agpgart module.
    DRM: Fill_in_dev failed.
    I can see that flashing for a few milliseconds before the screen goes blank with the intel driver as well.

    Thanks for the post. This did in fact save me a lot of hassle.
    On my Y510p I needed to use nomodeset to get it to start. From there, I installed bumblebee and nvidia-331 from the X-swat repository. Then I got rid of nomodeset in the kernel parameters. Now my kernel parameters are:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
    Now my backlight works, I can get the nvidia card to takeover using bumbleebee's optirun command, and it boots fine.
    Since this result is near the top of the Google results when searching for graphics issues on the Y510p, and this is on the topic of Intel driver problems on the Y510p: can anyone choose different resolutions in the display settings?  I only have access to full resolution.

  • [Solved] EEE PC 701 and Sound

    Hi,
    I've just installed my first ArchLinux distribution on my eee 701.
    This distribution offers the exact level of control/confort I wanted.
    As instructed, I've installed the dedicated kernel for eee pc (kernel-eee) which is built witch every needed driver directly in the kernel.
    (Anyway, this is the unique configuration for which I manged to have wifi working. With "normal" kernel, wifi was not working, neither with madfiwi, nor with ath5k)
    The probleme is that with this kernel, I cannot have the sound working.
    With the ARCH kernel, it was working well, after, i've added
    options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dig
    to modprobe.conf
    But, of course, with the "monolithic" EEE kernel, this line is useless, since the snd-hda-intel is not a module, but is built in the kernel.
    So, there is my newbie's question : is there a way to pass this option to the built-in hda-intel driver of the kernel-eee ?
    Or else, is the a way to have sound working with kernel-eee ?

    Well why not ? (hum, I guess you could say : "because you want sound" ;-))
    My first reason is that I did not manage to have wifi running with the stock kernel. Ath5K and madwifi (ath_pci) refuse to work (exactly as if the link were down : no complaint when I load the module, the interface is (are for madwifi) visible. But impossible to do anything with it). But I must admit that I've not tried very hard, since I supposed that eee-kernel was intended to be used.
    Which is my second reason : I suppose that if an eee-kernel is existing, and maintained, it is supposed to work better on eee than generic kernel.
    3rd reason : the boot is really faster with eee-kernel (which is absolutely not surprising)
    4th reason : why not ? I'm sure that there are many ways to have my sound card working. You could even have asked "Why don't you install the last KUbuntu ; it works well on eee". Well, because I don't want to. I want to have my eee laptop working with archlinux and the eee-kernel :-D
    I suppose that this kernel should work correctly with eee (or else, I don't see the point), hence my question. If the answer "eee-kernel cannot handle sound" (which would surprise me), of course, I will have to try another solution, such as recompiling another kernel (I will do this sooner or later anyway). But else, I would like to know how to use it ^^

  • [SOLVED] Asus 900 : ALSA plays sound, but microphone doesn't work

    Hi,
    This week I installed Arch Linux (kernel 3.1.8-1-ARCH) on my Asus 900 with HDA Intel Realtek ALC662 rev1 sound card. The wiki and google and existing forum posts have been good for most issues, but I'm stumped on ALSA configuration. So here's my first forum post for advice.
    I configured sound OK following advice in the wiki and twiddling settings with alsamixer, through both the internal speaker and through the headphones, but I can't get internal or external microphone to work. I'm testing with:
    arecord -d 3 junk.wav
    then when I play back via:
    aplay junk.wav
    there is only soft static (with audible soft clicks at the start and end).
    (Other files like /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav play fine.)
    alsamixer recognizes and reports my HDA Intel card, Realtek ALC662 rev1.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Alsa has several suggestions of options for the snd-hda-intel module.
    Different pages suggest different places, which was confusing until I discovered that they can go in any file in /etc/modprobe.d so I'm putting them in /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf .
    I added
    options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
    with no luck.
    I have tried various model=XXX parameters (based on many suggestions found googling for Asus 900, alsa, ALC662, etc problems):
    options snd-hda-intel model=auto
    options snd-hda-intel model=asus
    options snd-hda-intel model=asus-laptop
    options snd-hda-intel model=laptop
    options snd-hda-intel model=ref
    options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode1
    options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode2
    options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode8
    and I do
    rmomd snd-hda-intel && modprobe snd-hda-intel
    after each modification, which makes a little click in the speakers as the module is restarted.
    I don't know what the differences between asus-mode1, asus-mode2 etc are supposed to be - I've failed to find clear documentation about them, but AFAIK they seem to be the only valid model choices, unlike stuff like laptop, asus, etc.
    I find asus-mod1 etc at https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/ … _realtek.c and various other webpages.
    I found they vary the items presented by alsamixer but none of the 8 asus-modeN values helped me get the mic working. (The only obvious change was asus-mode8 made my headphone stop working, unlike asus-mod1 through asus-mod7.)
    I looked at /var/log/kernel.log when doing the snd-hda-intel module reload for various values of model= and they all look similar to this:
    snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1b.0: PCI INT A disabled
    snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1b.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
    snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1b.0: irq 43 for MSI/MSI-X
    snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1b.0: setting latency timer to 64
    hda_code: ALC662 rev1: BIOS auto-probing
    input: HDA Digital PCBeep as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/input/input24
    input: HDA Intel Mic as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input25
    input: HDA Intel Headphone as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0/input26
    (Note the emphasized line about BIOS auto-probing only comes up when not using model= or when trying various suggested model values that don't seem to be actually defined for ALC662, e.g. stuff like model=asus, etc.)
    Here's a list of alsamixer settings I used for various models. (Note I also tried muting and raising various higher boost levels, and when there's an Internal Mic or F-Mic item I tried various combinations. The following are just what seem the most plausible settings to me.)

    No headphone output for asus-mode8!?
    I'm not interested in doing anything fancy (e.g. mixing multiple sources or whatever), I just want basic mic functionality.

    Has anyone got sound recording working on an Asus 900 with HDA Intel Realtek ALC662 rev1 ...?
    Thanks for any help! (And for feedback whether this post gave too much info or not enough, or other suggestions for posting such requests. Sorry if this was too long, but it seemed better to err on the side of too much info...)

    Hello,
    I don't have your soundcard but maybe the following information is helpful, though:
    Install the linux-docs package, then you have some information about your soundcard drivers in "/usr/src/linux-*/Documentation/sound/alsa/". Exspecially "HD-Audio.txt" and "HD-Audio-Models.txt" might be important. In the Models file it is stated that just the "asus-mode*" are legitimate model parameters for your soundcard and in the HD-Autio.txt file it is more or less said that trial and error the modules is the way to go to find the "correct module". Further there is a section
    Capture Problems
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The capture problems are often because of missing setups of mixers.
    Thus, before submitting a bug report, make sure that you set up the
    mixer correctly.  For example, both "Capture Volume" and "Capture
    Switch" have to be set properly in addition to the right "Capture
    Source" or "Input Source" selection.  Some devices have "Mic Boost"
    volume or switch.
    When the PCM device is opened via "default" PCM (without pulse-audio
    plugin), you'll likely have "Digital Capture Volume" control as well.
    This is provided for the extra gain/attenuation of the signal in
    software, especially for the inputs without the hardware volume
    control such as digital microphones.  Unless really needed, this
    should be set to exactly 50%, corresponding to 0dB -- neither extra
    gain nor attenuation.  When you use "hw" PCM, i.e., a raw access PCM,
    this control will have no influence, though.
    It's known that some codecs / devices have fairly bad analog circuits,
    and the recorded sound contains a certain DC-offset.  This is no bug
    of the driver.
    So check your mixer,  here and here are nice tutorials.
    Greetings
    matse
  • [SOLVED]Xf86-video-intel 2.7.0-1 problem.
    Iḿ using xf86-video-intel with xorg-server 1.6.1 and when i use a kms-enabled kernel my video gets all messed up. It' s like it can't find the correct sync with video.
    no kms is ok, but as usual , i get no direct rendering with compiz.
    does anyone is experiencing the same problem?
