[Solved] No printer setup module in KDE 4.1 System Settings

I have cups installed, and gutenprint, but I really don't know how to use them outside of the normal KDE 4.1 gui. However, when I invoke "System Settings" I see no printer setup module in either the General or the Advanced tabs. Any ideas what I might be missing?
I'm hoping to setup my Canon i560, which ran very nicely under Kubuntu 8.04.
Thanks!

Okay, here's how I worked around the issue...
a) I opened http://localhost.localdomain:631/printers/canoni560, which accesses the CUPS printer administration program in Firefox.
b) I chose a different driver by deleting the i560 printer and selecting "add printer," then selected the "Canon i560 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.2" driver
c) Bingo. It worked.

  • Printer setup with lpadmin, access problems to driver settings

    Hello,
I have been using lpadmin in a script to add printer connnections to our Cups server. After running the script I have configured the printers in the Print & Fax centre, defining duplex units and extra trays where applicable.
In Mac OS 10.5 it works fine, but when I open the driver option dialog in Mac Os 10.6, set an option and click OK, the option change is not saved. This means that our Snow Leopard users cannot print duplex or on other than the default printer tray.
If I add a printer manually in the Print & Fax dialog everything works fine, ie the driver option dialog opens when I add the printer, and the changes I make are saved. As several printer have to be set up on several Macs, this manual procedure is not an option.
Is there some new option for lpadmin in Snow Leopard that I have to use, or am I missing something else? The command line I use looks like this:
    /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p printer -v ipp://cupsserverip:631/printers/printer -E -P /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/HP\ Color\ LaserJet\ 5550.gz

Welcome to the Apple Discussion forums.
Setting the options using the Print & Fax dialog box seems to be saving the installed options for a test printer I just installed using the lpadmin command. You could also try using the web interface at _http://127.0.0.1:631/printers_. Just click on the printer and then choose set default options from the pop up menu.

  • How to access CUPS - printer setup [Solved]

I installed CUPS and hplip. Hplip doesn't open for some reason and when I go to http://localhost:631/ it won't open the site to configure my printer. I have installed cups.
    What else is needed?

    I get this now:

    I still can't get to localhost:631
What else to I need to do? Printer setup should be more straightforward than this. No other distro has been this convoluted to set up.  I know you don't want to hear this but maybe on the next version Arch can improve on this printer setup.

Note that your system uses syslog. All of kdm's internally generated messages
(i.e., not from libraries and external programs/scripts it uses) go to the
daemon.* syslog facility; check your syslog configuration to find out to which
file(s) it is logged. PAM logs messages related to authentication to authpriv.*.

  • Why doesn't the HP printer show up in the printer setup utility?

Can't understand why the HP2100 TN laserjet printer that is networked(ethernet) via a Snow basestation does not automatically show up in my list of printers. I also downloaded HP's drivers for it.
My boyfriend's Powerbook running 10.3 is able to automatically see it, and it showed up as "shared" on my computer when his laptop is up and running. I tried Appletalk etc. He got it running using IP printing and having the IP address, but he told me it should have just showed up.
I'm new to the Mac so I don't understand this. According to the config page he printed Appletalk is active on the printer its selected on my networking page.
    Any help apprciated.

  • Printer setup utility freezes when I try to add drivers

I have an Epson Stylus Photo RX500 all-in-one printer which worked fine until a few weeks ago. My best guess as to why it stopped working is that I let my hard drive fill up and some data got corrupted/overwritten (I've had numerous problems incuding my System Folder becoming 'unblessed' which necessitated a reinstall).
When I tried to print there were no drivers recognized. If I checked in home>library>printers I could find what appeared to be the driver (Stylus Photo RX500) but opening that would bring up a message it wasn't in my list of printers. Trying to add the printer to the list gave the message that the driver wasn't found. In the Finder the driver was listed as 372KB. In my cloned external HD the same file was listed as 408KB. Copying over the larger file to my internal didn't solve the problem.
I went to the Epson site and found a driver which was only listed for OS10.2 and a driver to Intel Macs (I have a G4 PB). I downloaded the 10.2 driver and installed it (408KB). Now when I open the printer setup utility EPSON USB is listed as an option but when I click on that the utility freezes. I've tried restarting and repairing permissions but still no go.
    Yoroshiku onegaishimasu. TIA.

    Ohayo gozaimasu,
I saw what was available on the US site, so went to the Epson UK site, where they show one driver for OSX - PowerPC, for the RX500, it's version 1.9b versus the 1.7 on the US site. The driver is a 7.9mb download. Looking at the other English sites around the world, 1.9b seems to be the lastest OSX PPC driver.
    The link is http://esupport.epson-europe.com/FileDownload.aspx?lng=en-GB&ID=19449&data=6D58D 013F2B22854B9450E1814C134D338E0C605169D8D398A3275D13F8B5BB5
Perhaps that will work better for you.

  • C6180 does not appear in my list of printers in Printer setup utility (mac OS X 10.4.11)

My C6180 was printing slowly so I followed the steps in the forum (unplugging, holding down the buttons, etc. ... Shut down, restart, etc.) Now it doesn't appear in my list of available printers when I try to set up again in the Printer Setup Utility. My software is updated. How to I get it in the list. I've been around in circles and I may have messed up some settings in trying to solve this. I have to print stuff for work. Freaking out a little. Help.

  • Printer Setup Utility and trouble with CUPS

Good day! I'm hoping that someone here might help me with a pretty frustrating problem I've run into.
I'm not sure what prompted this, but for some reason, I can't seem to add any printers using the printer setup utility (PSU). I reset the printing system through the PSU, and now, when I try to add a printer, one of three things happen: 1) PSU stops responding, and I have to force quit it, 2) I get the message "error-service-unavailable-error", or 3) the "Add a Printer" window just closes, as though it succeeded, and returns me to an empty PSU screen.
Now, after wrangling with it for a bit, I found that when I went to the CUPS web interface (localhost:631), I couldn't navigate throughout it. That is, localhost:631 brought me to the interface, but I couldn't get to any of the rest of the interface to let me look at printers, etc.
So, I suspected that it was a connectivity problem on port 631. Sure enough, I ran nmap and got "631/tcp closed ipp." I tried opening it on my router and on the firewall, to no avail. So, I mucked around /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and set CUPS to listen on Port 631 (even though it should have already been listening already on localhost:631, according to the .conf file), and voila: nmap yields "631/tcp open ipp"
Too bad that's not my problem, it would seem. Now, all that happens is I try to add a printer, and the dialog closes when I press add, to no effect.
I've tried using the Printer Setup Repair Utility ( http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26660&mode=feedback ) to check all my permissions and setup, as well as replace the cupsd.conf file, which only renewed the 631 port problem), repairing my permissions, changing permissions on /var/spool/cups to 700, trashing the files in /Library/Printers/, restoring them, restarting cupsd, restoring the cupsd.conf file from the cupsd.conf.default file, most everything I can think of.
And one more symptom: when I try to delete printers using the CUPS web interface, I get a 403 Forbidden message reading "You don't have permission to access the resource on this server." I tried the suggestions on http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/user/view/cs_msg/9184 to no avail.
So in short, I'm hoping that someone has some suggestions, ideas, or solutions? Anything would be great. I've been stuck on this for a couple days, and I'm going to be needing a printer pretty soon now.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Gratefully,
    a.

I'm still struggling with this problem: whenever I try to print, the application from which I'm printing freezes. I've attached the error report from one such instance of attempting to print from Preview. Maybe someone could help me make sense of it?

  • [SOLVED] DE & ATI setup help...please.

    Hi all,
I'm setting up Archlinux 0.8 ftp install on my machine…
I just need help in setting up my DE, since for some reaon I could not get it to startx automatically or at all so I started a fresh install.
    My graphics card is a ATI Radeon X300/X550 series & a SyncMaster 204B LCD (1600 x 1200 30-81 kHz horizontal & 56-75 Hz vertical).
So after I installed the OS I added a user.
I assume the command next would be:
pacman –Sy xorg hwd xf86-video-ati kde
    Then configure the settings:
    hwd –xa
Then follow the instructions for ATI drivers here ! http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI … Kernel_2.6
I want to use the proprietary driver so what needs to be added in order for my card to be detected correctly.
And to start KDE automatically do I use this http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sta … ents_HOWTO or the Inittab Method here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Enabling_a_DM which is better?
I'm guessing as long as I get startx to work & my ATI setup correctly I should be able to do the rest my self
    TIA

  • Error print preview, print setup, print Reports

    Hi All
I had Primavera P6.7 and worked well I upgrade to 8.2 after update when i make print preview, print setup, print and Reports ====> Run it give me errors like:
    Type : EAccessViolation
    Event Code : AVAA0-2875-6
Description : Access violation at address 00758396 in module 'PM.exe'. Read of address 00000028
    Type : EAccessViolation
    Event Code : AVAA0-3237-4
Description : Access violation at address 008F1B70 in module 'PM.exe'. Read of address 00000008
I don't know what's the problem and what's the solution????
    Please Help me ??

    Dear Ibrahim,
Can u Just let me know the Version and edition of Windows like Basic/Professional or Ultimate.
AVAA errors are commonly caused by lack of permissions to the Project Management install directory, the default path is \Program Files\Oracle\Primavera P6\Primavera P6 Professiona
Generally P6 writes a log to this directory. But if the Currently Logged in user does not have Read / Write access to this directory, an error will be thrown.
    Solution:
Grant Read and Write access to the P6 PPM installation directory,
by default: \Program Files\Oracle\Primavera P6\Primavera P6 Professional for the Currently Logged In User
Pls Let me know whether this Has Worked For You Or Not.
    With Warm Regards
    S.Shankar

  • Printer Setup Utiliity eliminated from Leopard

Why was the printer set up utility eliminated from Leopard? Used it successfully for years with printing 4-page monthly newsletter written with Pages, duplexed on HP 5550dn. Downloaded Leopard in G5 Power Mac initially but lost Safari bookmarks, Eudora e-mail address book plus unable to open other programs until they play catchup with upgrades. Couldn't print from three networked HP LaserJet printers. Disgusted I went back to old reliable Tiger OS 10.4.10. Then installed Leopard in GG Mac Pro. Glutton for punishment. Same problems but managed to survive and solved printer issue, including being able to compress Pages docs to e-mail reduced file size in pdf. Still unable to resolve Safari bookmark issue.
Not a happy camper being old Mac addict since day one when Jobs was a pup surviving many upgrades, but why did Apple eliminate the Printer Setup Utility Utility in Leopard? Thanks and Regards. Ol' Jim

I just came across this "Missing USB class driver" problem today and was able to get it to work. I followed the Troubleshooting section in this page from Lexmark.com: http://www.lexmark.com/lexmark/sequentialem/home/0,6959,2048165961160493508_0en,00.html
The only problem was when I deleted the Lexmark folder in /Library/Printers/ and then tried to empty the trash, it wouldn't let me empty one file (LexmarkCUPSDriver) because it was saying it was being used. I ended up looking for instances of it in Activity Monitor and force quitting each one (I found 5 of them). After that I went ahead and installed the Lexmark drivers from the Optional Installs package in the Leopard CD. After the install, I went ahead and added my printer back in Print & Fax. I have been able to print fine afterwards. Hope this helps.

  • HP stream printer setup

I just received a new HP Stream 7 and want to set up a printer. There isn't any information just how to that so any help would be appreciated. I do have the software that came with my Epson XP400 and I do have an external DVD/CD reader.

    Hi @RCFlyer75
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I saw your post on setting up an Epson printer your HP Stream. The reason you didn't get any printer setup instructions is that for the printer to function at it's best you should follow the setup instructions for the printer itself. I would recommend that you check out Epson Support.
Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post solved your issue.

  • Printer setup operation with elements 12

I hav spent hours with online support on this issue. They can correct the symptoms, but they cannot correct the problem, and we end up in circular discussions. My new photoshop 12 looses communication with my Epson printer driver when trying to set up a print job. When I enter "ADVANCED SETTIN GS" the message is shown that the printer does not exist. I can print to the printer with whatever the default settings are in the driver, but cannot change the settings. Support has had me delete some %appdata% files that restores the function for a while, but then the problem will reappear when I am involved in intensive printer setup. I have Elements 10 and can print without any problems even though 12 seems to have crashed. How can we solve this problem?

Moving this discussion to the Photoshop Elements forum.

  • Cannot Access print-manager Interface In KDE

    Hello all,
First of all, I have print manager installed. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the problem still persists. The problem is that no matter what I do, there is no option in the System Settings app on KDE to manage printers. I realise that I can just use the CUPS interface, but that leaves a lot to be desired for me.
I have spent hours scouring the web for any information on this, and it appears that the most common reason for this problem is that people don't have print-manager installed in the first place. That is definitely not the reason I'm having the problem, however.
