[SOLVED] No sound in flash

In trying to get my MIDI keyboard to play in Rosegarden, ALSA stopped working like it used to. I used a USB MIDI cable to connect my MIDI controller to my computer.
Looks as if snd-usb-audio is now card 0. To make a long story short, finally got sound to work by creating a /etc/asound.conf
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 1
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 1
Everything seems to be working fine except for flash, which I'm using nspluginwrapper. Tried reinstalling nspluginwrapper and nspluginwrapper-flash, still no sound. I'm at a loss.  Here's some pertinent info:

Okay, my sound now magically works for flash.  I initially had not restarted my pc after installing the above mentioned pulseaudio packages.  I didn't think it necessary, not even sure if it is the restart that fixed it, but problem solved.
Though i did change my .asound.rc from
pcm.!default {

to
pcm.!default {

    run `aoss firefox` and be happy.
    OSS does still work or at least the alsa backwards compatibility layer that emulates the old interfaces, right? did i miss anything?
    for newer versions of flash (like version 9) simply install firefox in wine and let it install the plugin. that usually works great!

  • [SOLVED] No sound in Flash Plugins - Xonar D2X

    There is no sound at all when I play any flash content, but my sound works for other applications no problem.
    I'm running Google Chrome's built-in flash plugin
    I'm running Pulse Audio with ALSA. I have installed pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa
    I'm using Google Chrome's stable version from the AUR: google-chrome
    My system is 64-bit
    The Pulse Audio server is running fine

  • [SOLVED]No more sound in flash, but kmix shows a stream

    Hello all,
    I'm fairly new (and happy that I switched) to Arch .  When I installed Arch on my x86_64 based laptop everything worked fine.  Somewhere along the line I lost sound in flash.  I use KDE with the defaults for sound: Phonon, Pulse, and ALSA.  For my phonon backend I'm using VLC, but have also tried gstreamer.  I first realized the issue in late November and have since been wrestling with it in my spare time to no avail.  I have tried everything in the forums and wikis that I could find (even if it seemed like it didn't apply).  The one difference that I'm experiencing that no one else has posted is that I have a stream show up in kmix when a video is playing, but still have no sound.  It's not muted, and I can move the volume slider with no change.  I have no idea when exactly it broke, or what update may have caused it.  Has anyone had this issue and solved it without posting?  Can anyone offer some troubleshooting advice?  I was previously a Gentoo user of 6+ years and wonder if there  are any Arch tools similar to equery (depends and depgraph flags) that can help me find all the packages installed that are related to flash?  Also, is there anything in Arch that is similar to the Gentoo emerge log?  I would like to clean out everything flash and pulse related and start from scratch, but don't know the best way, or even a clean way, to approach this.
    Thank you in advance for any help offered.
    Regards,
    Joseph

    @alexkarro  Thanks for your quick reply and for the links.  Unfortunately, I followed the advice from both links.  I have both lib32-alsa-plugins and lib32-libcanberra-pulse installed.  From what I understand about the first link, my default device is the correct device.  But just in case I'm wrong I pasted the output from aplay and my asound.conf below.  Am I misinterpreting the output to aplay, or configuring my asound.conf wrong?    Originally, when it worked, I got all the config instructions from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio.
    Thanks again.

  • [solved] Sound in flash stopped working (alsa, x86_64, rate)

    Why?
    Sound in flash stopped working (alsa, firefox, x86_64). Tried flashplugin-prerelease from archlinuxfr: nothing different.
    Everything worked before I rebooted. I changed nothing else since last reboot.  Can't figure out what happened.
    Updates among other things:
    firefox, xulrunner (firefox I did restart - the new one had sound in flash before I rebooted)
    openal, lib32openal (don't think that has anything to do with it?)
    libsndfile (that's something entirely different, too, right?)
    And a lot of others that don't look related... no Idea how many really, I haven't rebooted in quite a while. Maybe there even was a kernel update since last reboot. Or two.
    edit: Also some interactive flash stuff that did work before has stopped working now.
    edit2: Chromium doesn't have sound in flash either. Tried recompiling firefox / switching to AUR/firefox-pgo: no change. Everywhere else, sound is working fine. Also, several flash games I tried get stuck / freeze after intro.
    Thx!

    Couldn't find any changes there:

    card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: AD198x Digital [AD198x Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    I tried the multilib version and the x86_64 prerelease. Both did work perfectly fine before I rebooted (I tried which one works better recently and couldn't see any real difference). Didn't have trouble with flash for months before this reboot.
    I found a few modules I was unfamilliar with were loaded:
    snd_seq_os snd_seq_dummy snd_seq_midi_event  snd_seq snd_seq_device
    ... and removed them with rmmod. No change. (I should have restarted alsa at that point I guess just to make sure, those weren't the problem?)
    Then I changed the rate in asound.conf to 41000 and restarted alsa - now everything works again! Strangely, no more freezes too (those were reliable).
    I remember having had problems with flash not having sound unless I set the rate to 41000 about a year ago. After some updates, I tried again and all rates supported by my sound-card seemed to work. My guess would be regression in whatever fixed that problem... but I don't know.
    I'll leave that "unsolved" until I manage to figure out what it really was about.

  • Almost no sound in flash

    Hi
    I've spend the last couple of days, almost nonstop searching the web for a solution for this. Tryed possible solution i found, but no luck so far.
    I got perfect sound in any application, game, media player etc. But neither in internet explorer nor firefox when viewing online videos (youtube, xfire etc) do i get much sound.
    At first i thought there was no sound at all, but when i crank up the speaker system to max i can hear a little (but if i do anything else with sound i get blasted away).
    I've tryed registy fixes, checking if files where there, installing K-lite codec pack to fix regestry issues, uninstalled flash lots of times, rebooted before reinstalling, clearing temp internet files folder etc. Nothing helps.
    I got the feeling that some stupid website somehow has changed a setting somewhere for flash, making sound almost unhearable, but i dunno how i can fix this.
    As said, i searched and tryed all, but im lost now.
    win xp pro (auto updating)
    firefox (auto updating)
    ie (guess its uptodate from windows updates, only use it if something doesnt work in FF)
    onboard realtek hd sound card.
    but as said, everywhere else its fine, just not playing sound in flash based videos.
    noticed this first like 3-4 weeks ago, but figuered the videos i tryed to watch where broken or had no sound. Now i know its just my flash that has no volume set somehow.
    oh, ofcourse i checked everysingle soundcard volume controler and mute box already.
    any help will be appriciated.
    - Bohs

    since noone here cares, i've been trying everything in my powers to get this solved, and i might be a step closer, yet very far away, as i can not fix whats wrong.
    What seems to be wrong is the DirectSound, atleast when i enter dxdiag and test sound there, its extremly silent too, i tryed changing all acceleration features to see if that helps, both in dxdiag and my sound options, that only makes everything worse.
    however my DirectMusic works fine in normal volume.
    But since microsoft is so ****** up on "there stuff", i can not even uninstall and reinstall directx .. i found two fixes on the net that should do this and thereby reinstall whatever is default with XP, but they just totally fock up your system, and you cant do anything without system restore. You can not even choose it from the XP installation cd ...
    i got the latest (9.0c 4.09.0000.0904) version, so i can not update it with a newer ... how do i fix this? its just weird to me that no other application nor game is affected by this - only flash - they all use directx (well Prototype is a little affected, but that seems to be a game problem according to there forums http://forums.activision.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=1788 ).
    and please dont tell me to update my audio drivers, cause there aint any newer aviable, and i have tryed reinstalling them several times.

  • No sound in flash videos

    I would like to say that I am not a native speaker and English is my second language.
    Well, back to the topic. Sometimes safari stop playing sounds in flash videos. Its annoying because the only solution I found is to quit safari, start garage band, quit garage band and start safari again. After some research I found out that there is something wrong with sound frequency in preferences. Is there a permanent solution for this?

    MIDI setup is set correct.
    I did restart my computer. I know how to fix the issue. But I am sick of neverending Garage Band solving. Is there any pernament solution?

  • No Sound In Flash Applications

    Hello.
    So, about 3 month ago or later, adobe had announced the new version of ADOBE FLASH PLAYER, i think it was 10.1. When i updated my flash player to version 10.1, my sound in my browser (im using MOZILLA FIREFOX) had gone. I cant hear any sound in youtube, i cant hear any sound in flash games, but video goes normal. I have searching reason for a long time. I have found many sollutions, and i have tryed all of them on my pc. Im a power user in computer, im not a begginer, but i cant solve this problem. Now i got Windows XP, SP3, and installed adobe flash player of version 10.1.82.76. Maybe some one can help me???

    Hi eidnolb,
    You are certainly right about resolving audio issues.
    Actually you pointed me in the right direction when you told NoviceGG to go to administrative tools.  While in the control panel I decided to check out QT first.  I am not a big fan of QT and rarely use it but others in my house like to use iTunes for their iPods and QT comes bundled in the download.  At any rate, iTunes was updated and along with it came an update for QT.  I think someone downloaded an .flv file and when they played it with QT it set the streaming video default to QT.  At least that is what I believe happened, although I am not 100% certain.  I don't think QT was automatically set as the default streaming video player when it was downloaded but that is a possibility also.
    I had no audio for any streaming video in any browser, FF, Chrome, and IE.  Video was fine in all three.
    Somehow QT gets it's own Control Panel category.  Which is actually only QT preferences.  Seven tabs across the top: Register; Audio; Browser; Update; Streaming; File Types; Advanced.
    The first tab I clicked was the Audio tab.  But that is more of a device manager and you can select bit rate, channels, and size (8 bit, 16 bit, or 24 bit).  I realized that wasn't it then went to the Streaming tab and that deals with connection speeds, delays, and an instant-on option.  Not it either.  So I hit the File types tab and it reads; 'Select the file types for which you want QuickTime player to be the
    default player.'  Top box; Streaming-Streaming movies was checked.  These are expandable boxes (with the + to show more specific file types).  Seven expandable boxes to check or uncheck:
    Streaming-Streaming movies;
    Video-Video only and video with audio file formats;
    Audio-Audio only file formats;
    MPEG-MPEG system, video and audiofiles;
    MP3-MPEG Layer III movies and streams;
    Images-Simage files
    Miscellaneous-Miscellaneous file formats
    I unchecked the top box the tested it and that was it.  I thank you very much for pointing to the control panel.  You are a very helpful member of the forum.
    I actually just now joined so I could share my discovery with NoviceGG.
    I hope this helps you out with your knowledge base a little eidnolb.
    Thanks again!

  • No sound in flash....(firefox)

    it seems I have no sound with flash. though flash does work and so does my sound (I tested it with the front and center thing)
    I think I know what the issue is however. See the sound card I use is my pci card but by default the pc uses my integraded sound (which doesnt work....) so I set my pci card load by default and everything works fine but flash...I think that is becuase  flash loads the intel (integaded) drivers....
    I had this issue before when I was new to linux in ubuntu and I solved it be reinstalling only the drivers for my ens1370 card (the pci card) and then everything worked fine but I cant seem to recreate that in arch
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449
    I followed that guide in ubuntu. Specifly that parts on making the pci card the default in modprobe.d
    and uninstalling the default drivers and reinstalling the divers for my pci card...
    also I Looked at alsa in the wiki and nothing there seemed to be related reinstalling drivers..

    Welcome to forums.
    Since ALSA is a kernel module now, there's no installing drivers anymore. One way to get rid of your on-board sound card now is to blacklist the modules that it used in the MODULES array in /etc/rc.conf.

  • No sound in Flash after Rhythmbox

    (I am fully aware there are over 9000 threads about Sound in Flash, however, many of them are 64-bit issues, or they aren't similar enough to my issue to work.)
    Running 32-bit Arch on a Sony Viao VGN-CR507E (Sound card is Intel, along with 90% of other hardware)
    Using Alsa & Pulseaudio. For some reason, I seem to need both. Just -Syu'ed.
    Have installed: (pacman -Qe | grep -i pulse; pacman -Qe | grep -i alsa)
    alsa-oss 1.0.17-2
    alsa-plugins 1.0.24-3
    alsa-utils 1.0.24.2-3
    pulseaudio 1.1-1
    pulseaudio-alsa 1-2
    If I play a Flash video in any browser before loading and playing music with Rhythmbox, sound works just fine.
    If I listen to music using Rhythmbox first, Flash's sound is nonexistent, and no combination of mixer settings lets sound play.
    This seems to possibly be a Rhythmbox issue, as Flash's sound works fine after using Audacious.
    A flash video played in VLC seems to be unaffected by this.
    (I'm switching to Audacious as a temporary fix until this is truly solved.)

    I assume you already did this? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … #GStreamer

    First i tried updates but nothing changes, i have sound everywhere, except in Flash Videos.
    Any ideas? I found some threads but all with useless informations.

  • No sound in Flash applications like Youtube and Zynga-Frontierville. (Win7, ff 5.1, AdobeFlash 10.3.181.34)

    I get no sound in Flash applications like Youtube and Zynga-Frontierville. Video is fine.

    I'm not sure how related is this with the thing that happened to me but here it goes.
    A while ago I couldn't have two applications that can use the audio channels at the same time. For instance, if I had a paused movie with VLC I could play a video on YouTube but with no sound. Is that your case? Or it doesn't work at all?
