[SOLVED]No sound in Nestopia update

I updated Nestopia today via pacman. I now have no sound when using ALSA. In the console, I get the error:
ALSA: Could not open soundcard (Device or resource busy)
All other programs that have sound function properly and this did work with previous versions. Any ideas?

  • [SOLVED] Another "Sound broken after upgrade" thread

Hi.  My sound stopped working at some point, probably after an upgrade.  I've seen lot's of posts about this in the last month, but nothing is helping.  My guess is that OSS is screwing with ALSA.  Here is what it says in my pacman log.
    Running OSS update script...
    [2011-12-05 13:34]
    [2011-12-05 13:34] -------------------------------------------------------------
[2011-12-05 13:34] Open Sound System was updated. Now you should restart the
    [2011-12-05 13:34] daemon by running /etc/rc.d/oss restart.
    [2011-12-05 13:34]
[2011-12-05 13:34] Please note that OSS stores some of its configuration files
[2011-12-05 13:34] at /usr/lib/oss. If you are upgrading from an older OSS
[2011-12-05 13:34] release and it doesn't work properly, try removing that
[2011-12-05 13:34] directory and reinstall this package.
    [2011-12-05 13:34] -------------------------------------------------------------
    [2011-12-05 13:34] upgraded oss (4.2_2005-1 -> 4.2_2005-2)
I tried removing the directory and reinstalling oss, but that didn't work.  I also tried removing oss altogether, but pacman says that lib32-libflashsupport: requires oss.  So I'm not sure what to do.  I was trying this
    http://wiki.archbang.org/index.php?titl … _with_Alsa
but I got the dependency conflict with libflashsupport.
What I want to do is force remove oss via pacman -Rf oss, then install the alsa-oss emulator, but I'm not sure if that will break something else.
I'm also willing to just wait and see if the next kernel update will fix it, if that doesn't take too long.  I don't really use sound very often anyway, but I still want it to work.  I'm running this kernel
    Linux version 3.1.5-1-ARCH (tobias@T-POWA-LX) (gcc version 4.6.2 20111125 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Dec 10 14:43:09 CET 2011
    Thanks for any help.

Sorry for bumping this rather useless post.  But I just wanted to mention that the problem is fixed.  What I did was to follow the link
    http://wiki.archbang.org/index.php?titl … _with_Alsa
(but I don't know that even has anything to do with the solution, because the sound didn't work after doing this.)
But then, just today, there was a kernel upgrade, and now the sound works.  Big thanks to the arch team.

  • "Please connect to the internet-"problem solved by the latest Muse-update

    Hi staff,
I'm happy to tell you that the former problem with the error message "Please connect to the internet…" when trying to start Muse is solved now by the latest update. At that time I talked to James Boag, he assumed Muse might not recognize my USB-modem (and I should try a different access point, which I didn't) but this is not an issue any more. When I launched Muse recently, it updated automatically and then started with no problems.
Thanks for the great work you've done in that matter.
    Regards
    Norbert

    Hi arrakis13,
I’m afraid I cannot really help you.
I did not make any changes on my running system except that I’m on 10.8 Mountain Lion (upgraded from 10.6.8., no Lion in between), but this did not change the behavior of Muse at first. Only the update, which started automatically when I launched the app on August, 21, (still the trial version) caused the difference.
My firewall is on and in the firewall-options Muse has allowance for incoming connections, see the attached screenshot (sorry, in german, but you will understand the meaning). Airport is not active and I did not change my way to connect to the internet (as James Boag from Adobe suggested earlier, see also attached mailing). It just worked.
Meanwhile I upgraded to the official version (2.0.945) and still it works.
    Hope you find a solution.
    Regards
    Norbert

This is still happening for me.  I downloaded the beta yesterday and am on 10.7.  I run software update but Muse is not showing up as having an update.  My firewall is not running.  Any suggestions on how I can get this running would be much appreciated.
    Please let me know.

XuYimin, can you please give more info on what you mean by "update (alsa)"? There is no "alsa" package in Arch as alsa & it's modules are part of the (linux) kernel.
As you have already gone into alsamixer to ensure the appropriate channels are unmuted & set at the desired level, have you also gone into your KDE systems settings -> Multimedia -> Audio and Video Settings & rechecked your settings?
sorry,it's really misleading in my words.what i want to say is 'no sound after update, and the sound system is alsa.'
i'm sure the approiate channels are unmuted. in the Video Setting, I tested all sound cards in the list, But i can't hear sound.

  • "Dirty" sound after Kernel update. [SOLVED]

First of all my sound have always been "dirty" on Linux, like if the speakers/headphones where broken. However, earlier today I configured my sound for the first time on Arch and had a terrific sound! Perfect and clear. However, after I updated, my sound configuration was messed up and now, after re-configuring it, it has this "broken" sound again. Anything I can do about it?
    /Richard

So I won't have to re-configure the sound again if I get kernel -8? Like 5 minutes after I got kernel -7 I saw there was a new update but with my recent problem with kernel -7 kept me from updating. My sound works almost perfectly it's just that there's this tiny buzzing sound in the background all the time.
