[SOLVED] No sound in Tuxguitar or Guitar-Pro

Hi, I just installed tuxguitar, and I am getting no sound. I get no errors when I run tuxguitar from the konsole either. Anyone has any ideas? or G

I tried playing a midi file through timidity, and again, heard no sounds. This was the output:
$ timidity /home/devadittya/random.mid
Requested buffer size 32768, fragment size 8192
ALSA pcm 'default' set buffer size 30104, period size 3760 bytes
Playing /home/devadittya/random.mid
MIDI file: /home/devadittya/random.mid
Format: 1 Tracks: 2 Divisions: 480
Sequence:
Track name: Track 1
No instrument mapped to tone bank 0, program 24 - this instrument will not be heard
No pre-resampling cache hit
Last 1 MIDI events are ignored
Playing time: ~10 seconds
Notes cut: 0
Notes lost totally: 0
I just figured that I need to install soundfonts. Sorry for being such a n00b.
EDIT: I installed soundfonts yesterday, and everything seems to be working fine through timidity.

  • What do you guys suggest for playing guitar thru my Macbook Air? I use guitar pro software to learn tabs but I would like to be able to play along thru the computer. thanks

I used to play my guitar thru my PC using a line 6 Guitar port, Then I could play along with Guitar Pro tabs or MP3's. Now I have the Guitar Pro software on my Mac Air and I neeed an interface (which I can get at the Appple store- guitar plug to USB) but I neeed a suggestion for what software to run as an amp simulator, maybe line 6 is the best or maybe there are others I should check out. I know there are guitar "apps" for Ipads etc but this is a Mac. BTW I did not like the guitar sounds produced by Garageband. Thanks

I'm using GJABB with Logic Express 7.2.3 and have no problems.
However, I haven't started messing around with the modulation wheel yet which is pretty important in this libary since it controls volume. The sounds are great, though. I've just raised the mod wheel on each track to get the basic arrangement done, then I'll try the mod wheel for expression.
One thing about this library is that it pretty much forces you to do single horn lines since each patch is monophonic (like the real instrument). It does produce pretty nice results that way. I haven't tried upping the polyphony as I like the results this way.

  • Sound Card for the Mac Pro

    Hello,
I've searched around but can't seem to find any definitive answer to buying a sound card for my Mac Pro. I want to plug in a guitar and microphone for garageband and voice overs on FCP. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jake

Best look for usb/fw audio interfaces which can be inexpensive and easy to get up an running.
There are many many cards on the market all depending on how many I/O you are chasing and overall sonic results.
If your in the market for entry level cards - check out
    www.m-audio.com
    www.focusrite.com
    www.digidesign.com
    or
if your in the semi-pro market, look at www.rme-audio.com (mainly the fireface series)
My pick if you are an entry level user wanting a great 2in/2out interface, have a look at the Duet by Apogee.
    http://www.apogeedigital.com/
(I use all their top end pro kit and can tell you they are a very good company in both product and support)

  • Guitar Pro ported to Linux

As you may (not) know, Guitar Pro has been ported to Linux and it's also available for download (win/mac/linux)
    http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php?pg=download
the deb package scared me a little bit but i'm sure that it's possible to get it running under arch :>

I tried to use deb2targz with the file GuitarPro6Demo-rev8217.deb downloaded from the official guitar pro web site. The only thing I got was the error message: "Out of memory!", appearing after a while. That's probably because of the big file size (369 MB). Does anybody know how to overcome this obstacle? Thanks.
SOLVED with AUR PKGBUILD at http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36390, modifying the name of the file to GuitarPro6Demo.deb and correcting the md5sums in the PKGBUILD. After installing, in order to get it working, I deleted the file libz.so.1 in /opt/GuitarPro6, so that it had to use system library I think, otherwise some version error about zlib arose. Finally GP on Linux!!!

  • Sound cutting out on Mac Pro (late 2013)

Bit of a long one and I'm not sure if this is the right place so sorry in advance.
For the past 2/3 weeks the sound on my new Mac Pro has been cutting out completely. It doesn't matter if headphones, external speakers or nothing is plugged into the back the sound just cuts out. It only comes back if I reboot the mac or kill 'audiocored' (as suggested by some people over on the Apple Support Forums.
The sound would cut out when I'm using CC products and when I'm not. It would range from 3 hours of not cutting out to every 15 seconds. If it occurred when I watching a sequence or clip in Premiere it would make the playback slow to a crawl and if I was watching a video on YouTube and it would occur the video would then stop and no longer load. The cut outs are to my knowledge completely random and I'm not doing anything that I haven't done a million times before when it occurs.
I've been contacting Apple for a while now and gone through a number of different troubleshoots (booting in safe mode, resetting the PRAM, logging in as another user) and the issue occurs on everything. The only fix I did find was if I created a new partition on the hard drive and boot into that then the sound issues don't occur.
Which leads me to why I'm posting this... That partition didn't have any Adobe software. I then uninstalled all Adobe CC programs on the main partition and the sound issues then stopped completely. Only when it's all installed (even when they're not even open) do the sound problems occur, which leads me to believe the sound cuts are due to Adobe CC software.
All Adobe and Apple software is up to date. I've trashed the preferences on all my Adobe software as well as clearing the cache.
I realise this is a bit of a weird one and maybe in the wrong support forum but I'm getting to my wits end. I've got huge projects dropping very soon (with tight deadlines) that I need to work on and can't be rebooting the mac every 5 mins.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this I would be greatly appreciated.
I'm currently toying with the idea of doing a factory reset of the computer but I worry as I know that will take some time re-downloading / installing all my software and documents.

I have had a bit more luck it would seem.
Turns out it wasn't and Adobe software that was causing the problem rather some faulty RAM. I took all the RAM out and then put it back in again a few seconds later (doing exactly what Apple support told me to do) and voila the sound issues were gone. Although one of the cards decided not to work any more and I was left with 12gb rather than 16gb. Have since replaced all the default RAM with a more powerful third set from a party provider and haven't had any trouble since.
It's very strange that this problem is persisting for you even after the RAM being replaced. All I can suggest is that you keep calling Apple as their support services seem to be pretty good (for me at least).
Sorry if this is no help at all.

  • I want to buy an Ipad , my usage would be apps like Guitar Pro, iRig, a few books and a few games. would 16gb be sufficient?

I've always had 16GB iDevices and have personally never had any problem with running out of space. You definitely do not need to keep everything on the device (like 2-3 weeks or more of solid music playback). You can always offload what you don't need on the device to your PC and have plenty of space. If you mange your memory, you will always have enough...and I've always had enough, even with a "paltry" 16GB. Others may feel differently.

  • Hi everybody, I am in Turkey on a long assignment, I need help solving a big problem on my macbook pro os 10.9.3. The other week my wife visited some website and now we have a redirect virus of some sort, and every other time when we click

Hi everybody, I am in Turkey on a long assignment, I need help solving a big problem on my macbook pro os 10.9.3. The other week my wife visited some website and now we have a redirect virus of some sort, and every other time when we click on a link or anywhere on the page we are redirected to this casino web site, https://casino.7bets10.com/tr/?from=hy9yKXD43jSC-8Oxbw4femNd7ZgqdRLk-dHJpeG9uaXR l. Its the same whether on Chrome or Safari. Does anyone have a solution, thank you!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Sound not working in MacBook Pro OS X

    Hello,
I have a mid 2011 MacBook Pro. The silica gel packet in my backpack broke and it went inside my Mac's headphone jack. I tried to remove it with a tooth pic, knife, cotton swab, cotton swab with glue etc etc. And finally sound stopped working when the sillica gel went deep inside. The volume icon is grayed out since then.
At times I see a red light from the headphone jack. I understand that the speaker is ok, because I have a parallel installation of windows and the sound works fine in that! I also hear sound via external speakers and bluetooth headset in OS X. I took it to the Apple Store and they told me that I had to replace the entire motherboard which might cost around $550! I am not ready to do that! Everything else works just fine!
Anyone knows any fix for this problem? My MacBook is mute for a long time

how do i get my sound back on my Macbook pro?

  • Ilife Sound Effects and Final Cut Pro Sounds are not appearing in Final Cut Pro X anymore!?

    Hello,
I am new to the app Final Cut Pro X. And recently when I have gone into the Music and Sound Folder in final cut pro the option for Ilife Sound Effects and FCPX Sound Effects do not appear. I have read other forums and they have said to drag the sound files into FCPX but that isn't even a option. It onlt has iTunes options, please reply back someone this is stressing me out. I don't know if it is because of Mavericks or whatever but it is driving me insane and I need help!
This is what it looks like .

This is a known issue in FCP X 10.1 and you will find many posts about it in the forum just do a search. Several solutions have worked for different users. Try the following:
    1. Open and close GarageBand then relaunch FCP
    2. Open and close iPhoto then relaunch FCP
    3. Close and reopen FCP
    4. Trash FCP preferences then relaunch FCP
Any one of these may work. Just try them in any order. Be aware the problem may recur.

  • Guitar Pro

I was not sure where to post this, so I figured I would post it here. I recently purchased the Guitar Pro software from the apple store, and after I installed it, I went to open it and the program crashed. I kept trying to open it, and it kept crashing. I did the same on my iMac, and I got the same response. If anyone is familiar with the software, is this a defective install disk, or is there some kind of upgrade to fix the issue. I tried e-mailing the company about a week ago, and I'm still waiting for a response.
    Thanks,
    ampaudi

I see by your signature that you are running Leopard. At the moment, Guitar Pro is not compatible with Leopard. You can see comments to this regard at:

  • How is the sound created that the Mac Pro makes when it starts?

It sounds as if beads are moving, but now I think it just is a sound coming from the Mac Pro's speakers. Does anyone know what it is? I cannot find anything online.

  • Guitar Pro keeps asking me for non existent servers.

    Hi All.
This problem only occurs when I'm using Guitar Pro 6. When saving a new document, GP6 spins the beach ball for a few minutes then displays a dialog that says 'the server "192.168.1.11" may not exist or is  unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again." Lately it has added my Mac Book to the beach ball stall cycle so it takes twice as long to think. Eventually I get the save dialog and can carry on as normal. Once it it cycled through both server requests repeatedly for 10 minutes or so, clicking away the dialogs just put me into another cycle, forcing me to force quit. I intend to contact tech support for GP6 obviously, do you guys have any ideas?

Are you using a router?  I think 192.168.x.y addresses are local router IP's.

I don't have sound on my Mac Book Pro... I've gone to my sound in the system prefrences and it's saying that internal and export sound are not even an option.

    Hi j,
Have you tried a pair of ear phones yet? If not, try it.
If no luck, gently pull them out and push them in a few times.
If no luck, try the following:

  • Guitar Pro + iPod nano

    Hi Guys,
i'm a guitar player and it's bugging me to always have to turn on the computer to practice a song with Guitar Pro.
So I've been wondering if it is a possibility that GP and a iPod nano or in general a iPod might work together sometime. Would be great!
    Looking forward for responses.
    bluepalms

Connect the iPod nano to your computer through the FireWire connection; this connection usually provides power to devices when the computer is asleep, while the USB connection doesn't, as providing power through USB requires that the computer's CPU be active to handle power requests.
