[SOLVED] No sound on right speaker with ALSA

Hello,
I've just installed Arch for my first time, and I'm having some problems with the sound.
My left speaker and the subwoofer work fine, but there's no sound coming out of the right speaker.
I've unmuted all channels in alsamixer.

I've had no sound from right speaker on my HP Pavilion g6-1353ea after installing Windows 8. I've checked all drivers, and have done the sound test in sound properties (left speaker beeps fine, but then nothing from the right). Anyone else having this problem/found a solution?!

Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio in both speakers.

17 inch late 2011 MBP with no sound from right speaker (Help)

I purchased a new MBP 17inch model and noticed sound only comes from one speaker. I've checked the system preferences and moved the balance 100% to the right and no sound at all. I don't believe this is normal, but before I make a case I wanted to speak with the community first. All responses are appreciated Thank you.

No sound in right speaker/headphon

I bought the sound blaster Audigy 2 ZS and for while everything was working well. Than day i lost sound in my right speaker than i tried my headphones but my left speaker was fine i was still getting sound from only my left speaker/headphones. Thinking i had a damaged sound card i went out and got the sound blaster li've 24 bit. After i installed it the same problem was happend. I still dont have sound in my right speaker/headphone. I tried everything i updated my drivers and even changed my sound card pci bus slot and nothing worked. Right now i have the Sound blaster li've 24 bit installed.

Hey, I've just had this same problem happen to me within the past two weeks except that it's with all my freakin' sound equipment (speakers/headphones/canalphones) and the last item happened within the past hour or so. I'm also using the Elite Pro ($375).
It first happened with my 5. Klipsch speakers ($200) and I figured it was the speakers that went bad because all I get now is a loud shrilling sound when I power up without even having to play anything. However, about a week later, my Sennheiser headphones ($80) lost sound in the left side and I figured it was a huge string of bad luck since the audio problems were slightly different. This time though, like two days later, since I gotta have my gaming and also music, I hooked up my Shure earcanals ($75) and now the left side of those has almost disappeared like my other headphones. The right is real loud like normal with both, but almost nothing in the left side and/or completely gone and sometimes I hear a crackling shrill sound similar to the speakers.
With all three of those going bad, it has to be the sound card. I swapped slots, reloaded drivers and all that, but I still have the problem. I even tested my headphones at least (not the speakers since they're bulkier) on my MP3 player, Nintendo DS, and other computer with an xtrememusic in it, and the left side of those headphones are still shot. Did the soundcard somehow disable the left sides and they can be reactivated somehow or are they now completely shot? What's up and can something be done about my sound card damaging those items? Cause now I'm PO'd as that's a lotta freakin' money. They outta be able to be replaced under the other companies warranties, but I don't want this problem to happen again if I receive them back.

Lose of sound in right speaker?

Hey guess, all of the sudden I lost the sound in my right speaker and when I put the head phones in it doesn't come out of the right side either. Becuase of that I do not think it is the speaker but something inside of the computer, any help with this would be great!

Have you checked the right/left balance of the output under System Preferences? No harm doing a check, even if it happened suddenly as you mentioned.

Buzzy sound in right speaker

I just bought the pavillion dv6-7008tx, working on Windows 7. There is an annoying buzzy sound in the right speaker when I use Skpe and some rograms like You tube. Unsure if I can fix it or if its a fault with the latpop.

Your laptop might have a factory defect or something. I suggest for you to have it fixed or replaced if possible since the warranty still covers it.

No sound in right speaker

I am not getting sound in my right speaker. I've checked in Preferences/Sound and played with the right/left balance and it has no effect beyond showing for sure a complete absence of sound on the right.
I've checked two sets of headphones and they both work fine on other computers yet have no sound on my ibook.
Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issue, but it's on and off, almost as if there's a loose connection to the LEFT speaker. Also, my iBook is almost always connect to external speakers, though when the battery was still good in it, I would disconnect the speakers when I'd go outside with it, and then bring it back in and connect it again.
When I first noticed this problem, the sound prefs were mysteriously changing by themselves, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Maybe the post above is the answer, or the cause. I am not sure, but it's nothing that I have to worry about because now that the battery's dead and I have a Macbook Pro on it's way, I won't be using the speakers much longer.

Hissing sound from right speaker

I've read through the threads about processor and hard disk hiss. I don't think this is that same issue. When I boot under AC or battery, I get a 5 second hissing from the right speaker. As soon as the desktop comes up, the hissing stops. If I am on AC, that's the last time I hear it, but on battery, I get the hissing noise any time something makes a sound (Adium, iTunes playing an MP3 or a CD, etc.) Is this a driver problem or hardware?

I called SmallDog tech support; John had me do a PRAM reset, as well as a power management reset (remove battery and AC, hold down power button for 10 seconds.) Problem remains. Booted to XP, hiss came up during XP logo, but now it won't boot to Windows (might have something to do with the reset.) Told me to remove the additional RAM I had added when I bought it, still hisses on boot. Next step I guess is taking it to SmallDog for repair.

Crackling sound from right speaker - Envy 14 Beats edition

The right speaker on my Envy 14 Beats edition has a crackling/static sound when playing any sort of sound from it. I assumed it was a faulty speaker since its just the right speaker.. I've talked to HP support and they had me send it in.
After two weeks I got it back only to find that they simply changed some audio configurations in an attempt to fix it. Nothing has changed and the problem still exists.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there is some sort of fix for this without me having to send it back to them to replace the speaker.

Hello tedebare73. I understand your notebook is making a weird sound from the left speaker.
Are there any other electronic devices (guitar amplifiers, cell phones, speakers) around the notebook? These can all cause very strange noises.
Try hard resetting the notebook as well. Here are the steps.
Shut down the notebook.
Remove the battery and AC power.
Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds three times.
Replace the battery and AC power.
Verify whether the problem persists.
Finally, if neither of the above have an effect try removing and reinstalling the driver. Here are instructions.
Go to your Device Manager.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your audio device and select "Uninstall."
Reboot the notebook. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
Verify whether the problem persists.

[SOLVED] No sound from speaker with alsa on lenovo g585

When playing any kind of sound, my headphones work, but the internal speakers are silent. In alsamixer both Headphone and Speaker are unmuted. So far I made a ~/.asoundrc file, so the HDMI device wont be the default.

After reading the wiki, and looking at tihs I tried setting the model in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf to laptop, and to ideapad, but none of them worked. Is it only the matter of getting the model right, or is something else wrong?

I found that Auto-Mute Mode was enabled and my headphones where plugged in all the time, disableing it solved the problem.

[Solved] No sound output for headphones / ALC269VB & ALSA

I have installed Arch with XFCE on my Asus 1015PW netbook.
The sound is working fine on laptop speakers but when I plug in headphones/connect my speakers, nothing happens.

[SOLVED] No Sound in Gnome - Problem with GStreamer?

I've been using other distros for awhile, but this is my first time with Arch. Spent most of the morning getting it setup and now I'm pretty much done except getting sound to work I believe.
So, not sure what info I should give troubleshooting wise, please ask if anything else is required. Alsa detects it fine, but gstreamer gives me the following error:
No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.

Just tryed playing a wav with aplay and it didn't give me any errors, but I didn't hear anything if that helps anymore. Running a amixer set MASTER 70% unmute also gives me the unable to find simple control 'MASTER',0 error too, though I can change the volume fine with alsamixer so I'm not sure why that is. The correct module is loaded (snd-hda-intel). Otherwise I'm at a complete loss.
edit: amixer set MASTER 70% gives me the same error on an ubuntu livecd where sound does work so that seems normal. I don't know what changed, but I can now open the volume control so the gstreamer error goes away, however I still can't get any sound, be it with aplay or something else. I'm starting to think the solution may be to pass on arch and move to something better.

Surround Sound Via Headphone Sockets With ALSA and/or OSS?

I have a surround sound system that uses the green and black 2.5 milimeter jacks for surround sound. Is it possible to configure ALSA, so that the headphone socket on my laptop produces the front (green) output, and the external microphone socket produces the rear (black) output? Also, is this possible with OSS?

Possible in Alsa, yes. Quite a bit of modification of your .asoundrc. Check this out.

Awful sound using Jambox speaker with my iMac

I just purchased a Jawbone Jambox speaker hoping to hook it up to my iMac and subsitute for my bulky receiver and speakers. The sound quality is awful. Sounds fine when connected through a USB cable, also works fine with my iPhone. Any chance of improving the sound quality? Also, how does one increase sound volume? I use a Microsoft extended keyboard and the volume only goes as high as the keyboard allows.

Wish I could - but no HDMI ports - it's an old receiver (Yamaha HTR-5740). Time to buy a new one?
