[SOLVED] No sound on speakers only on Headphones
Hi everyone,
I have searched a lot for this problem, but with no conclusions.. I use my arch linux instalation with Gnome3 and Pulseaudio. I never had this problem with gnome2 and alsa. At work I only use headphones, so I boot the pc with the headphones already connected (maybe an error occured here...), today I was trying to listen to music without the headphones but impossible....
I have always checked alsamixer (all the channels are in max volume), i had already checked the selected card and the selected output (Analog Speaker, even with analog Output or Analog Headphone it doesn't work)...
I've already have this issue one time, and I solved i don't really remember who...
if this can help :

1 - remove all the files in ~/.pulse/ (or make a backup)

Then in the volume controler select Analog Speaker, and reboot.

IPad 3 no sound speakers only on headphones. HELP!
Hello everyone!
Please help me, I have an iPad 3, that I bought for my boyfriend on june 2012, after over a year of use, everything had worked perfectly till' now. The iPad started to have problems with sound through speakers, every time it were less and less what you can hear, and then we started using headphone to hear better. Suddendly the sound went out, and now we have NO SOUND on speakers, only on headphones, BTW the microphone works!
We have tried everything, nothing makes the sound come back.
I have tried the following:
System restore
iPad reset (soft reset, hold home and lock buttons for about 15 seconds till apple comes up)
Clean the headphone jack
Clean the charger cable and connector
Change the side switch from screen rotation to mute and viceversa
Use control center to mute / unmute
Change volume control to buttons and viceversa
Reset all settings
Erase all content and settings
Use of Assistive touch to manually turn up volume, unmute and mute, etc...
The sound comes only from headphones, and works perfectly with them, we have sound on games, notifications, music and everything else, it's just that sound doesn't come out from speakers.
The problem started since september, when the iOS 7 update was done.
But it got worse over the 7.0.4 update...
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Pleaseeee help! Were you ever able to resolve this? I have this issue as well. Have not done a restore, but have cleaned connecter and headphone jack. No success.

No sound from speakers, only subwoofer after restore to factory
I recently restored an HP pavilion dv7 back to factory settings using the built in hp restore. When it came back, sound will only play through the subwoofer. When I do sound tests, I hear both channels play, but they play through the one "triple bass reflex subwoofer" on the bottom of the laptop. Nothing coming from the two speakers in the front at all.
I have uninstalled the IDT drivers multiple times using the current drivers, the original drivers in the swsetup folder and many drivers in between from HP's ftp site. No luck. I'm pretty much out of ideas. It's clearly a software or driver issue as they worked before the reset but I have no idea what else can be done about it.
HP tone control is installed, the beats audio panel is visible, IDT audio shows up in appwiz. Ive seen a few forum posts about this same issue but nothing that ever seemed to get resolved.
Any ideas? I've included some screen shots of what I'm seeingHi @etainw ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7-4000 Notebook and issues with no sound from speakers, only subwoofer after restore to factory. Here is a link to troubleshoot the Subwoofer on Beats Notebooks. On the Enhancements tab, select the Bass Boost option, and verify the device driver is Enabled, this should help.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase.
Thanks.

[SOLVED] No sound from speakers, headphones work (laptop, ALSA)
Sorry about another "No sound"-thread . So, the headphones work just fine, I can play music or Youtube-videos or whatever but the speakers on my laptop stay mute no matter what I do. I even tested the speakers with a Ubuntu CD to check if I've broken them somehow.
I've been having this odd problem for a week or so, I don't know since I usually use the headphones on my laptop anyway.

Could it be a driver issue? I just need some cryptic parameter to some module, right?
I've been playing around with alsamixer to fix this problem, maybe I've just messed things up a bit more? I really don't know much about ALSA, so the answer might just be obvious to some.
Thanks!

As I already mentionned in another thread, since the kernel26 2.6.38.3 update I'm not getting any sound in my speakers when my headphones are plugged in the front panel of my desktop.
I'd like to get sound in my speakers even when headphones are plugged in.
I was directed at some "Headphone jack sense" option, but there is none in my alsamixer (even after pressing F5.) Can't find anything anywhere on the web either. Most people want to disable sound in their speakers when their headphones are plugged in... Not me.
I'll try to see if I can find the annoying commit somewhere, but meanwhile if someone has an idea, that would be great!
PS: some technical information...
Gigabyte H55N-USB3 motherboard.
$ lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)
$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
Codec: Realtek ALC892
Codec: Intel IbexPeak HDMI
The speakers are plugged in the rear jack output (not HDMI.)
... and I forgot to say I'm using ALSA.
Last edited by stqn (2011-05-22 22:00:08)You realize that the speakers are supposed to get muted if you plug some headphones in the headphone jack, if that doesn't happen it is considered a bug as the new jack sense ... stuff ... is supposed to emulate the old and reliable hardware switch inside the jack. You may be able to pass some option to some module to override this though since everything is done in software now.

Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Hello,
Hello,
I just recently purchased a new headset for gaming but have been having some issues with it and the system sound. One major issue is when I call someone on skype, the sound from Skype or the call will go through the headphones, but any other audio comes out of the speakers. I have also notices that iTunes also does not function when I am in a call as well. Some examples would be if I were to want to watch a YouTube video while in a call, the sound would come through the speakers and not the headphones. However, I did find a fix for it. All I had to do was disable the main speakers and the audio was transmitted to the headphones. Another example would be if I wanted to run games via Steam (Garry's Mod, TF2, ect.), I wouldn't get any sound whatsoever from the game. Not through my speakers or headphones. With one exception, Garry's Mod volume I can hear through the speakers while in a Skype call, but I want the sound to come through the headphones. But with TF2, I get no sound whatsoever. If you need any more information about my issue, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
This question was solved.

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how certain programs are transmitting sound through speakers and not the headphones, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To ensure that your headphones are utilized when plugged into your notebook, I recommend following the steps below:
1. Click the Start button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click on Hardware and Sound (sorting the control panel icons by "category"), and then click on Sound
4. Under Playback, you should see one or two speaker icons. One of them should already have a green checkmark next to it (which will be your notebook's main speakers). If the second Speakers icon is not visible, right-click in the list of devices and select Show Disabled Devices
5. A second, disabled icon of "speakers" should appear. Right-click this icon and click Enable
6. Select the newly enabled speaker device, right-click it, and select "Set as Default Device".
7. Click Apply.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

NO sound from speakers after update only headphone jack works, speakers work on FaceTime
many thanks MarkReboot the iPad and see if that helps.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -

Sound from speakers but not headphones
I have a iPod Mini that will only play sound when connected to a stereo and not the headphones. I have tried two sets of known good headphones with same result. I have also followed the '5 R's' on the iPod, but the problem of sound only when connected to a stereo persists. iPod is no longer under warranty.
Dell Windows XP Pro iPod mini 4GBHow is it connected to the stereo? Just through the headphones jack as if there were headphones, the headphones jack and the little thing next to it, or through the bottom?

[SOLVED] No sound after plug out the headphone
The computer act weird suddenly that, if I plug in the headphone, I can hear the sound from the headphone. But if I plug out, there is no sound from speaker and headphone.
Before the problem appear, the sound icon at the system tray has two states of volume: one for the speaker if the headphone is not plugged in; the other for the headphone if it is plugged in.
But now, the sound icon appeared is always the volume for the headphone.
How to solve this?
Last edited by allencch (2013-09-24 11:04:43)I just solved the problem by disable Auto Mute from alsamixer. I am not sure what has happened, but disable Auto Mute solves the problem.

A1000L IdeaPad No Audio Sound from Speakers
Our IdeaPad A1000L was working great for a while, but now it will not produce sound from the speakers. At first I assumed I somehow had it set to silent even though the volume bar was all the way up. I reset all my audio settings. Then I realized the audio works fine from headphones. I did a full reset on the tablet, and still no sound from speakers -- only from headphones. I have read a similar thread where it was suggested that this might be caused by damage to the headphone port, but I rarely use headphones, and don't think I'd ever used them before with this device. Still, I tried jiggling the headphone thing around in there like suggested and it's still not working. When I look in there with a flashlight, it looks exactly like the inside of the headphone port on our other IdeaPad. Is there anything else I can check/try before taking it in for service?
Hello rkrohatgi,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing and the troubleshooting steps you have already taken. It sounds like you are seeing a screen similar to this when trying to adjust the volume:
I recommend the following steps for an issue like this (you can skip any of the steps you have already taken):
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, followthese troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

have an HP G62 laptop. I can no longer receive sound from speakers or from headphone jack. If I plug speakers into usb - I will get sound. Any ideas?
I don't think I have anything to offer that you haven't done. In Device Manager, Device status says "working properly" and you've reinstalled this driver.
Realtek Audio Driver for Windows XP
Right?
The only other thing I know to do is restore the hard drive to its original factory fresh contents.

Music only in headphones, but speakers work with alarms
My iPod Touch is acting weird.
No sound in speakers - only alert audible.
What can be the cause?
With headphones:
1. Pressing volume buttons will display the headphones speaker icon with a bar below it showing the current level of volume.
2. Alarms are audible in both speaker and headphones.
3. When playing a song the volume is displayed as a blue bar below the prev, play/pause, next bottons.
4. Detaching headphones causes the music player to pause and the blue volume bar disappears.
1 - 4 are all normal behaviour of an iPod Touch.
Without headphones:
5. Alarms audible in speaker.
6. Pressing the volume buttons displays the ringer speaker icon with a bar below shoing the ringer volume. There are no bars shown. Actually the Ringer volume is changed which can be verified by going to settings - Sounds (See 8 below)
7. When playing music there is no sound and no blue volume bar below the prev, play/pause, next bottons. The only indication that the song is playing is the play time indicator that progress through the song at its normal pace.
8. Settings - Sounds display the Ringer and Alerts level as a blue bar. When adjusting this bar the ringtone is played by the speakers. The Change with Buttons is on the volume also changes when the volume buttons are use.
My first thought was a defect sensor in the headphones socket causing the iPod Touch to beleive the headphones were still attached, but the iPod Touch clearly sense when the headphones are not attached as can be seen from the symptoms above.
I have restored the phone from a previously working backup and updated the software to the newest release so it's now:
Mac OS X Lion, iTunes 10.4.
The iPod Touch is from October 2010 so it's still under warranty. However before going through the hazzle of a warranty case I want to exhaust other options.
Right now I'm doing a factory reset and will test it in it's virgin state.I just read suggested postings and pushed the device into the jack harder until it really seemed to click and now they work. I will do the same with the auxillary jack and assume all will be fine. Thanks to all those old postings. What a simple fix!

Why does Panther System Prefs for Sound ouput only permits headphones?
I was OK with external speakers until I broke a wire. Now I cannot hear sounds from my internal speaker because the Sound Ouput Pane only shows headphones and not internal speakers. Version 10.3.9. The local Mac rep said there was nothing he could do because I was out of warranty and didnt have Apple Care. Thx for help.
I think if Sound Control Panel shows 'headphones' it thinks (correctly or not) that something is plugged into the headphone socket (which will disconnect/disable the internal speakers). My G5 recognises immediately I connect/disconnect anything to the external spkrs/phones socket, thus 'Internal Speaker' is only available if I've nothing in the socket.
If you've nothing connected and still no 'Internal' available then I'd think the System's got confused ? Try plugging/unplugging a jack with the Control Panel open, see if it reflects the physical change ?
