{SOLVED} no write permission to store downloads in /home/sources
Morning folks , trying this ;
moto4lin-svn dependencies:
- qt3 (already installed)
- libusb (already installed)
- zlib (already installed)
- gcc (already installed)
- subversion (already installed)

Obviously a permissions problem and not sure how to proceed ? , have installed ABS (correctly but not sure !),
but /home/sources ? , thro's me for a loop . I've obviously missed something here ! Pointers in the right direction ? Thank you all . Would like it to work across the board if nothing else to learn more .

I Thank you for your interest and will try to be more concise . I wanted to learn ABS , so I followed the guidelines at the Wiki ,
pacman -Sy abs
- done deal
pacman -Sy base-devel
- just to be sure I had it
wesley ~ $ sudo nano /etc/abs.conf
did the editing
# abs
- as root
mkdir -p $HOME/abs
- done deal
Then followed the steps : "The build function, the ABS way " , I tried using the example { copy and paste just to make sure } and '
ERROR: You do not have write permission to store downloads in /home/sources.
Aborting...
Error: Makepkg was unable to build moto4lin-svn package. After slim bombed , I tried it with ' Stellarium ' , a package easily installed otherwise , I figured an update and it might not work without a rebuild if I didn't lock it
but I wasn't worried , this was practice and a chance to learn. I then tried the moto4lin-svn package , same deal
- it wasn't a needed package but something to learn on .
Still got the error message , I hope I've made this a little clearer as to what I was up to . Would like to get this working as it would be a skill and something fun to do . Again Thank you for your time and patience .

Holding down the shift key while iTunes is opening. That will bring up the 'choose iTunes library' dialog. Select 'Choose LIbrary' from the choices and navigate to your music folder and iTunes music folder.

I have downloaded the most recent itunes on my new computer with windows 8 but when I attempt to get in I get this message "The itunes library.itl file is locked, ona locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file." How do i fix this?
Repair iTunes Security Permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Securitytab and click Advanced. Use the Change Permissions... button grant to your account (or the Users group) and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to Replace permissions entries... which will repair permissions throughout the library. When complete switch to the General tab, click in the Read-only check box to clear it, then click Apply.
If you don't have the option to change the permissions then use the Owner tab and Edit... button to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges. Tick the option to Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Repeat with the media folder if it isn't stored inside the main iTunes folder.
If you've brought over the library from another computer you may also want to remove any "mystery" identities (S<string of dashes & digts>) that have come over from the old computer...
The images above are from Windows 7. Hopefully the system isn't too different in Windows 8.

I have a Windows 7 Professional, 64 bits on my computer and have recently installed iTunes 11.1.3.8. but i started having this msg :"The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this folder" issues: how can i solve it?
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.
If it won't let you change the permissions use the Owner tab to take ownneship from an account with administror privileges.

I have a ipod classic now for 3 yrs.... old laptop (windows) crashed... bought new laptop (windows 7)... pulled all music to expandable drive... so on new computer i loaded itunes... and tried to pull over my 5000 songs from external drive... about half went over... so tried to convert other half to itunes.... then closed itunes...tried to open back up... and it wont let me.... saying : iTunes library is locked, on locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file...... pleaseeeeeee help me..... i am pulling my hair out.... whew...

I can't reopen my iTunes after I have to force quit when it does not respond. I get this message:
"The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I've read to do the solutions. I right clicked on both the iTunes and Music folder and went to info for each. On both the lock at the bottom of the Get Info was locked. All of my users including admin can read and write all files within those folders. They are even a shared folder. I clicked on the lock to unlock it, typed in my admin password, and went to the gear to apply to all files inside. After doing that I keep getting the saved message.
I tried another way that I've found online to move my ituneslibrary folder to the desktop and then open my iTunes. In theory the iTunes is supposed to ask for where the iTunes library is. Once that is prompted you quit iTunes and drag the iTunes Library folder back to the folder from the desktop and reopen iTunes to apprently solve the problem. However, when I move the iTunes Library file to the desktop and try to reopne iTunes the icon just keeps bouncing and when I right click the application does not respond.
This problem is only resolved if I restart/shut down my macbook pro which is a 15-inch Core 2 Duo with intel. It will be 5 years old in December. I currently have Lion and the latest iTunes 10.5. This problem started in late December.If you hold down the option key when starting iTunes, it will allow you to select a library or create a new one.
You can create a new one, and then add all of your iTunes music back in by simply dragging the old iTunes music file onto iTunes.

Hi I have downloaded the latest iTune Software on Windows 7. I went to open the file and it won't execute, I small box keeps popping up with this message:-
"The iTunes library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file".
I have tried to change the permission but nothing happens. Can anyone please give help me or give me some advise how I can fix this problem.

Network Folder Setup - "No Write Permission". Windows Vista.

I am having issues in creating a network folder to scan to my computer. It responds ‘No write permission’
**NOTE**Before I allow you to continue reading, I need to first know to I need to create a password in my user account, or turn off UAC to create a scan network folder on my PC? If so, then that is what I need to do to correct this issue.
Steps I have performed in attempting to accomplish this task:
In Windows to create shared folder:
1) Created folder.
2) Open folder properties, under 'sharing' tab, selected 'Share' button, then selected 'Share' button.
3) A dialog window appears and states 'Sharing items', and when it is complete, it states "Your folder is shared. You may e-mail these links to notify people that you have shared these files, or copy the links onto the Windows clipboard, where you can paste them into any program you choose.”
4) When I select ‘Done’, it returns to the folder properties, and states in ‘Network File and Folder Sharing’ under ‘Sharing’ tab under ‘Network Path’: ‘Not Shared’.
**I don’t understand that it just said ‘Your folder is shared’, then under Network Path is stated ‘Not Shared’.**
5) Since in stated ‘Not Shared’, I selected ‘Advanced Sharing’, checked ‘Share this folder’ box, and under ‘Permissions’, checked ‘Full Control’ box.
6) Now it states Shared, and under ‘Network Path’ states the location: ‘ \\ADMIN-PC\ScantoDV9825 ’
In the HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g, Embedded Web Server to add network folder to scan to:
1) Opened ‘Scan’ section by clicking on the tab ‘Scan’. Under ‘Network Folder Setup’, the ‘Network Folder Configuration’ clicked on ‘New’.
2) Entered data for the following fieldsTEP 1 OF 4: Display Name: ‘Scan’, Network Path: ‘\\ADMIN-PC\ScantoDV9825’. Left User Name and Password fields blank. STEP 2 OF 4: Left PIN fields blank. STEP 3 OF 4: Did not make any changes, used default settings.
3) In STEP 4 OF 4 when I click on Save and Test, it returns with the message ‘No write permission’
How do I resolve this issue of ‘No write permission’?

First ensure the permissions are also set correctly by right clicking the shared folder, and then open the Security tab.
If your user name is not listed as Full Control click the edit button, add your user name and check the box for as Allow full control.
If that does not help, follow these steps in Windows Vista to make sure that your computer is configured to allow network sharing.
Step one: Make sure that the computer user account is password protected
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
Click User Accounts , and then select the account you used to log into the computer.
Click Change your Windows password , and then find the user account you used to log into the computer.
If the user account is password protected , continue to the next step.
If the user account is not password protected , click Create a password for your account to create a password, and then continue to the next step.
Step two: Define the network location
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
Click Network and Internet .
Click Network and Sharing Center .
Click Customize next to Your Network . The Set Network Location window opens.
Select Private , click Next , and then click Close .
Step three: Make sure that the network sharing and discovery options are correct
Open the Network and Sharing Center window.
In the Sharing and Discovery section, make sure that the following network options are set to On :
Network Discovery
File Sharing
Public Folder Sharing (password required)
Printer Sharing (password required)
Password Protected Sharing
Your computer network is now successfully set to complete the Scan and Fax to Network Folder or Digital Fax to Network Folder Wizard.

I had a new hard drive fitted to my imac and restored it from my time machine back up on an external hard drive when I try to open itunes I get this message "the itunes library extras.itdb file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file"
To solve this issue all I did was check to ensure that the file permissions were set as described by the earlier posts, followed by simply deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb file. Once the file was deleted I was able to open iTunes without difficulty. Note that I am running Windows 8. Hope this helps!

I have just changed to Photoshop CC from CS4 and cannot now save images from Camera Raw. I get message 'write permission error'. I assume there is some permissions setting which did not exist with CS4.

I'd suggest that rather than deleting the file, you move it out of the folder to somewhere else, in case things get worse and you need to put it back.
I found this by Googling the error message.
If you can't figure it out, you might post in the "Downloading, Installing and Set Up" or "Adobe Creative Cloud" forums since it seems to be related to the Cloud updates, and not necessarily ACR plug-in functionality, and I've seen India support people actually tackle problems posted there, which rarely happens in the ACR forum, although an ACR engineer may sometimes pop in to answer questions, they'd be less likely to know how to fix deployment issues. -

I just built a new workstation for processing photos using PS CS5. I use external drives to store my images as I find it easier for backing up as well as for when I want use my laptop for sorting, etc.. I copied over all my old "Collection" files, and of course, had to "fix" them once on the new machine. Once pointed in the right direction, the collections all fill out correctly.
When I go to process a collection though, I encounter an odd problem I can't seem to sort out. I can delete files, rename files, copy/paste to the external drives, etc.. What I can't seem to do is add Labels, Ratings, or modify RAW settings. I mean, I can use ACR to make adjustments, I just can't seem to save them.
The system just ignores label, rating commands completely. When I try to save an ACR adjustment I get this error. "Unable to save the raw conversion settings. There was a write permission error."
The files are NOT write protected. I'm set up as the owner of my workstation, with complete control of the system. I can't seem to find any useful information about this error because the "write permission error" seems to only be happening on installs, so that's all I can find help for.
My system:
Intel Core i7 970@ 3.20GHZ
24.0 GB RAM
64-bit OS - Windows 7 Pro
DX58S02 Motherboard

To answer your first question; I use sidecar XMP files. If everything from my archive was shot in RAW I'd try converting to DNG and see if embedding the changes directly in a file worked. Unfortunately, a lot of my old stuff was shot in JPG, so sidecars seems to be the best choice.
When I add labels, ratings, as well as change RAW settings on files I place on my workstations HD everything works. It's only when I try to do these things with the same files on removable drives that I run into trouble. The drives I use are Transcend 640GB StoreJet 25ms connected via USB.
I don't think it's a UAC problem. At least, to my understanding, doesn't that control how your machine alerts you to program changes? I'm stumped. I also hate the idea that I'll have to go through various folders to find images from already created collections, copy them to a new folder on my HD and then work on them. Then I'll have to put them all back... ugghhhh -
I cannot access iTunes from my deskyop. I have not turned on any parental controls on the desktop. I have reloaded iTunes several times. No luck. I've run virus scans several times. No luck. I've restarted & tuned off the computer several times. No luck. I've uninstalled iTunes then reinstalled several times. No luck. Any thoughts?

I downloaded iTunes 11.
When I try to open it I get the message "The iTunes Library Extras.itdb file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission"
My boot drive is a SSD.
My iTunes library is stored on the main HD but I have not had this problem before.
I have gone back to the iTunes folder and given full read and write permissions-still no luck. Rebooted
Any thoughts?I actually was having problems with syncing of my iphone. It was suggested I get rid of this file. I took it from my itunes folder (unsure where it was. I just searched the folder) and put it on my desktop. When I plugged in tmy iPhone, it reappeared and my sync went fine. I am guessing you can do the same

I just had to reset my entire laptop to factory settings, therefore my original iTunes was erased, leaving my iPhone 4 no accessibility for new music. I had to download CopyTrans so that I could transfer all things on my iPhone 4 onto my new iTunes. The solution that worked for me:
Find iTunes folder - it should be in C:\Program FIles (x86) or similar depending on your operating system
Right click the entire folder (no need to open it) and click properties
Click the security tab
Click edit and highlight the user name under which you logged in.
Click the box next to full in the allow column, which should check everything
Click apply
Open iTunes
This worked for me.
