[SOLVED] NVIDIA driver conflict after upgrade

First of all, Its nice to be here. I'm a new arch user. So please excuse me if this has been discussed before. I searched the forum , i seem to have this problem https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=156666 but the information in the thread did not solve my issue.
When i do an upgrade i get the following message.
:: Starting full system upgrade...
resolving dependencies...

:: libgl and nvidia-304xx-utils are in conflict. Remove nvidia-304xx-utils? [y/N]
If i say yes
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: lib32-nvidia-304xx-utils: requires nvidia-304xx-utils
:: nvidia-304xx: requires nvidia-304xx-utils=304.64
UNAME
[sam@archetype ~]$ uname -a
Linux archetype 3.7.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jan 21 23:05:29 CET 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Also, I'm running an Nvidia 7300LE with nvidia-304xx driver. I'm on a x64 system.
Thanks in advance,

skotadi wrote:I'm sorry glxinfo isn't working for me even after installing mesa package.
You didn't have mesa before?!
For a newbie what was the reason to omit this part of the Beginners Guide:
Install mesa for 3D support:
# pacman -S mesa
Anyway, glxinfo is inside of a package called mesa-demos (it takes 5 seconds to google it).
Did you removed nouveau as I implied earlier?
Am I getting this right: Arch was working for you since october and something broke in recent days? If so you should have blind idea what could be the reason. Did you changed anything recently? It happened after system upgrade? But first things first: remove nouveau completely  (and maybe reinstall nvidia to see what pacman will say about it). Better yet read some of many threads about it. Most notably this one And for christ sake don't use --force switch or I won't be trying to help you anymore.

  • Nvidia driver problem after upgrade kernel

After kernel update to 3.10.10 do not start X. I use nvidia proprietary drivers.

same thing happened to me. The maintainer should have had linux-3.10.10 depend on nvidia-325.15-5.
Instead, he probably just thought he would upload them at the same time hoping that it would be ok.
Obviously mirrors sync differently, and we both got screwed. Luckily I could still get to a VT, and upgrade after the nvidia pkg synced.

  • [SOLVED] SIS Driver Problem after Upgrade

I have an old custom-built desktop machine based on an ASRock motherboard using an SIS 741GX chipset and integrated Mirage graphics.
I have the xf86-video-sis driver installed, and all worked well until a recent update. The xorg-server now fails with a segmentation fault. I understand this is due to incompatibility with the video driver and version 1.13 of xorg-server.
I would be grateful for some advice on the best way to proceed. Should I downgrade xorg, or is there a better strategy?
    Many thanks in advance.

Now that's what I call service!!!!
The new version of xf86-video-sis (just appeared on the extra repo this afternoon) fixes the problem.
An enormous thank-you to JGC and the other devs.

The issue occurred after upgrading from xf86-video-intel-v2.99.912-1 to v2.99.914+ and xorg-server-1.15.2-1 to 1.16.0-6 (and -devel).
    same issue if:
    - Switching accelaration method to "UXA" as per https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/40860
    - Adding    Option "DRI" "False"
    Digged a bit:
    - same modules errors but appears to be a Gnome bug (X starts): https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1441716
    - same modules errors but X starts up without problems http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … 175511372/
makes me doubt if this issue is related to the modules not found. Which is the single indication I found so far x-/
Any light on where can the issue comes from? hardware is pretty much standard even if getting a bit old. Never had Xorg related issue so far on this pancake.

  • [SOLVED] nVidia driver 195.36.08 causes KDE4.4 to crash after logging?

    Hi to all Archers
I noticed the new nVidia driver (195.36.08) on pacman's yesterday updates, I didn't update it immediately and preferred to wait until I was available to fiddle with it in case things went wrong. Apparently, that was the case
Here's what happens if I install the new driver:
KDM starts as usual, I login in, I see KDE loading progress and before it finishes, boom it crashes and returns to KDM login once again.
I tried reinstalling KDE, Xorg and read nVidia wiki to see if there is any hints. I tried once again with a new stock xorg.conf, and removed .nvidia-settings-rc and even disabled KDE compositing but all this couldn't help getting KDE up and running.
However, when I reinstall the previous version (190.53) everything is back to normal.
So what I want to know is am I the only one who gets this problem or there're others here having the same issue?
Because the first time I installed the nVidia driver (almost 3 months now) I used their own installer then used Arch packages afterwards, I suspect that perhaps their installer messed things up !?
For now the solution is to stick to the previous version.
I'm using Arch Linux 32bit and my GC is an nVidia 7300GT.
    Regards,
    Med

I want to install the 190.53 version of nvidia driver, because it's the correct driver version for my video card, according to nvidia site (see http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_disp … 0.53.html).
Also, in my prevoius arch system I installed that version and everything worked well. I don't want to try the newerr version. It doesn't matter if 190.53 are not the latest driver available. I'm self confident with the 190.53 version.
How can I install them? The problem is that pacman suggest me only the latest version :-(
You'll find them here http://schlunix.org/archlinux/extra/os/ after choose your system architecture.
if you want to know more about downgrading for more than a few packages read this guide http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dow … g_Packages
Assuming you have a recent nvidia graphic card and using a i686 system you should download these:
    http://schlunix.org/archlinux/extra/os/ … pkg.tar.gz
    http://schlunix.org/archlinux/extra/os/ … pkg.tar.gz

  • [SOLVED] nvidia driver causes blank screen soon after boot

    Hi,
I have a NVIDIA 560 and was originally using the nouveau driver, but that gave slow performance when doing anything (eg. resizing windows), so I installed the nvidia driver instead by following the wiki section:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … au_drivers
by essentially just following the scripts given there. After switching to nvidia, the screen goes blank soon after boot. I get back into the system by using nomodeset in menu.cfg.
My question is how do I even begin to find the problem, eg. what log file(s) should I look in and post?
    Thanks

Yes it's the 560 Ti. Thanks I just installed straight from the repos. I've also installed cuda-sdk and cuda-toolkit. I've compiled the libraries inside /opt/cuda-sdk/CUDALibraries fine.
No I go to compile the sdk examples by running make in /opt/cuda-sdk/C and get the following error:

I have checked for libcuda and can find it:
    # ls /usr/lib | grep libcuda
    libcuda.so.1
    libcuda.so.304.32
Is there something obvious I need to do to get these to compile?
    Thanks again.

  • [SOLVED] Key characters wrong after upgrade

Using Sony Vaio Pro after upgrade to 3.11.1-1-ARCH I can only type some keys while holding down "Fn" key. Seems my keymap is incorrect.
e.g when i type the 'p' key i get '*'. I have to hold 'Fn' key to get the 'p'. But 'd' wont display anything at all when 'Fn' is pressed. Very hard to type
    However:
    arch# localectl status
    System Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8
    VC Keymap: us
    X11 Layout: n/a
It happens at login and also in X. I boot to console (tty1), login then I use
    startx
    to run Fluxbox.
    vconsole.conf
    arch# cat vconsole.conf
    KEYMAP=us
    FONT=Lat2-Terminus16
    Also
    arch# xmodmap -pke

bump. Really need some help on this
Since last post I found and read a number of posts relating to HOOKS. Mr Elendig got me thinking that it wasn't an X issue but a system issue.
    So....
I put 'keyboard' and 'keymap' hook both before and after 'autodetect' in mkinitcpio.conf and ran
    # mkinitcpio -p linux
    That didn't work.
I implemented an ~/.Xmodmap file and updated my ~/.Xinitrc according to the wiki.
    That didn't work in Fluxbox.
I changed keyboard to 'fr' then back to 'us' both in console and in vconsole.conf.
    That didn't work
    BUT THEN.....I added
    FONT_MAP=8859_to_uni
to my vconsole.conf 'rebooted' and everything worked!! Awesome, right? No.
    Because then I
    # poweroff
and turned on again and came back to the tty login prompt and the keys were wrong again.
    I removed
    FONT_MAP=8859_to_uni
from vconsole.conf, rebooted, then put it back in, rebooted and there was no change.
    I then added
    FONT_MAP=8859_to_uni
to the boot prompt line before booting.
    That didn't work.
I also read a post where someone created the LiveUSB on a different computer and this was thought to be the cause of some of their problems after they upgraded the 'linux' pacakge using 'pacman'. I created my LiveUSB on a Fedora 19 system. Not sure if that could be the problem.
Last night I upgraded to Linux 3.11.3-1-ARCH in a hope against hope that would sort things out.
    It didn't
I'm new to Linux and have learnt a lot through my Arch Linux install which has been great. I really would like to avoid a fresh install using an Arch Linux created LiveUSB but at the moment that's what I'm looking at unless someone can help me out.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Rapidly decreasing hard-drive space after upgrading to snow leopard

So... recently upgraded to SL on my just over 1 year old MBP. No problems at first, but now acting really... odd...
When I first upgraded I had moved a bunch of files over to an external drive to have enough hard drive space. Had 11GB open when I upgraded, up to 23GB after the upgrade. Then, the other night, I suddenly get a "your startup disk is full" message. I was shocked. Checked and sure enough, had something like 270KB open. I had not saved any new files on the hard drive since I upgraded. Right after I got this message my computer spazzed out and I got a "you must restart your computer" message. Did, and afterwords had 7GB of free space on my hard drive. Don't know what happened to my 23 from a few days prior...
Since then, I have gotten the "your startup disk is full" message several times. When I check, I have everything from 3GB to 0KB of free space. Usually a restart solves the problem for a few hours, but then it pops up again. (In fact, as I wrote that, the message popped up on my screen once again... when I started this post I had 500-something KB free. Currently have 257KB free... again... no files saved/downloaded in the past few days...)
I've never had a problem like this before, and this is BEYOND annoying at this point... considering I've lost all the free space I freed up BEFORE I even upgraded, not to mention the extra space I was supposed to get by upgrading in the first place... plus I've had to restart my computer 5-6 times over the past 2 days, which is more than I've had to do it in the year that I've owned it...
anyone else having similar problems? Any ideas as to what might be going on??

So I'm having the same problem. I was converting songs in iTunes and browsing the web in Safari with a few torrents running in the background with Transmission. All the sudden the computer started hanging and I decided to restarted. After the restart, the Apple logo showed on the grey startup screen with a white progress bar (looked like a firmware update). When it completed and booted to the login screen I got a prompt that my startup disk was full and to delete some files. I know this can't be right because I had about 50GB free on my startup disk. Then after restart I noticed that the drive was fluctuating a lot! It first said I had ~250MB free, then jumped to 698 - 769MB!
I'm attempting a Snow Leopard install DVD startup and Disk Utility fix for repair and permissions. I really hope my HDD hasn't decided to randomly crap out. :-/

  • [solved] Fluxbox gets "messy" after upgrade

Today I updated Xorg (pacman -Syu), and for some reason it, sort of, breaks Fluxbox. I say sort of, because it does not break it completely.
Immediately after the update, the left and right mousebutton stopped working; however the middle mouse button did work. I ran nvidia-xconfig, and then the right button started working again. With this right mouse button I can start the menu. However, the menu for some reason is very "wide", and only a part of the fluxbox menu is "accessible" (most menus simply do not open), And the desktop gets "messy" as well, with parts of the screen changing but other parts not (I can' really describe it better).
Fortunately I can issue command, and I have a bash prompt, so the computer is useable...
I tried to change from nvidia driver to the nouveau, and both have the same problems...

Hi!, I have similar problem with kde 4.3.3 and nvidia. It takes a long time to respond when I click on the KMenu,  press Alt F2, open yakuake by pressing F12...
Is this issue related to this.
I found this problem today (yesterday I did pacman -Syu and it upgraded the xorg-server)
    Many thanks

  • Optical drive problems after upgrade to Tiger 10.4.10

I've just had my machine updated to Tiger 10.4.10 after having two new hard drives installed after a hard drive failure. I'm now having issues with burning data for backup purposes.
I can't burn anything with Mac OS Disc Burner utility, it doesn't seem to recognize blank disc's DVD's or CD's. It keeps telling me to load a disc when one is already in the drive.
System profiler recognizes CD-R's & DVD-R's when they are in the optical drive
I can burn with Toast Titanium ver 6.0.3 DVD's & CD's. The burned CD's will mount. The burned DVD's will not mount.
I have checked the burned DVD's in the optical drive of my iBook G4 Mac OS 10.3.9 and they mount on it fine.
Movie DVD's will mount & play. Software DVD's will mount and load applications.
I have cleaned the drive with a cleaning disc.
The Optical Drive was working fine before the upgrade, so what is the problem?
I can only assume two problems now!
1.) the optical drive has a physical malfunction
2.) there is a software issue between Tiger 10.4.10 & this optical drive (this is my favorite at the moment)
The upgrade was done by an Apple Authorised Service Provider they say there are no issues with Tiger & the optical drive.
So any ideas or help would be much appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem. I bought my G5 with Panther OS on it a few years ago. The DVD drive functioned perfectly back then. Then I upgraded to Tiger this past year which caused the DVD drive to open later..that is, I'd have to hold down the eject button for a good 2 or 3 seconds before it would open or close. Previously it responded instantly. Now what happens more and more is it can't read DVD-ROM disks that it has burned. My imac G4 with Jaguar has no trouble reading the disks but Tiger 10.4.9 and 10.4.10 simply refuse to mount DVD ROM disks that it burned.
I'm trying to make a duplicate DVD of the offending disk on my single-processor G4 and then put THAT disk into the G5 so it can read the info. Hopefully that will be my work-around.
It's got to be a software issue and I keep hoping the Apple wiz kids will put out an update to remedy this. Something's fishy with the DVD drive programming.

  • [SOLVED] Problem with murmur after upgrading to 1.2.3-4

I've been running Murmur on my server for a long time without problems. The last version I had running was 1.2.3-3. After upgrading to 1.2.3-4, the already-running murmurd process crashed after a while (some hours after the upgrade, after constant use) and I'm unable to restart it. The message I get is:
    :: Starting murmur [BUSY]
    <W>2012-01-07 22:06:11.133 Initializing settings from /etc/murmur.ini (basepath /etc)

    [DONE]
and in murmur.log nothing gets written. Downgrading to 1.2.3-3 works, but I thought I'd look for the cause of the problem.
After poking around a bit, I noticed that my murmur database (/var/lib/murmur/murmur.sqlite) belongs to a nonexistent user with a UID of 86 and a GID of 86, as well as the whole /var/log/murmur/ directory. I also noticed that a new murmur user and group with UID and GID of 1007 and 1000 exists on the system now. It seems that running:
    sudo chown -R murmur:murmur /var/lib/murmur/ /var/log/murmur/
fixes the problem. Perhaps the update deleted my pre-existing murmur user and group and recreated them?
Edit: Guess I should mark this as [SOLVED].
    Edit edit:
Also turns out the whole /var/lib/murmur/ directory has to belong to murmur, not just the sqlite file.

  • [SOLVED] Modules not loaded after upgrade linux (3.9.5-1 - 3.11.6)

Hi. After upgrading the package linux from 3.9.5-1 to 3.11.6,
many modules such as wifi or psmouse are not loaded.
My PC is Asus Zenbook UX31E.
If I do by hand like
    # modprobe ath9k
    # modprobe psmouse
    wifi and psmouse are OK,
but I want to set all necessary modules auto loaded.
    * Output of lsmod of linux 3.9.5-1 was 87 rows
but lsmod of 3.11.6 (I attache below) is only 39 rows.
    * Both
    /etc/modprobe.d/
    /etc/modules-load.d/
are empty on 3.9.5-1 and 3.11.6.
    Please give me advice, thx.

  • DVD drive failed after upgrade to 10.4.9

After upgrading to OS X 10.4.9 I noticed that my internal DVD drive (SuperDrive Pioneer DVR-104) failed.
I did the delta upgrade and immediately checked the most common "error" of misbehaving eject key. The key did not function at all, even after pressing it for minutes.
Later I found out that the complete drive failed.
System Profiler tells me (sorry german output)
    Modell: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
    Version: 0000
    Seriennummer:
    Absteckbares Laufwerk: Nein
    Protokoll: ATAPI
    Einheiten-Nummer: 0
    Socket-Typ: Intern
Note: no version or serial number!
DVD player gives the message (translated):
"no valid DVD drive found [-70012]"
Toast does not find the drive.
    I did:
    - repair permissions
    - repair drive/file system
    - the combo upgrade
    - reset parameter ram
    - reset all from open firmware
    - reset PMU
    no change
Do you have any hints besides replacing the drive?
Maybe it's just a coincidence. I did not use the drive for 2 weeks before
    the upgrade.

  • [SOLVED] Nvidia Driver T-Shoot - New Install

    ...Hello.
Just installed Arch on an office box and everything went great until I tried to access the Nvidia driver controls under XFCE4 after loading the nvidia-utils package.  The UI tells me that I "do not appear to be using the Nvidia Driver..."   I guess I'm still on Nouveau, despite following the path described in the Beginer's Guide.  Here are some system details:

...for giggles,  tried to modprobe nvidia into the kernel, and got:
    FATAL: Module nvidia not found.
...any help would be greatly appreciated.  I don't expect to have this much driver difficulty when I install at home next week, and this office machine is really just a practice run.  I suspect that the driver issue might be at least partially down to the fact that this is maybe not one of Nvidia's more standard SOHO-market cards.  It came in this huge Dell workstation that weighs a ton...owell.

    purple12,
Sorry, I don't have access to a system with Nvidia.  As a moderator, may I request that you use bbcode code tags around program output.  It uses a monospaced font so that columns line up, and includes scroll bars for long passages.  Your readers will appreciate you.
This text is in code tags. To see how I did this, you can use the "Quote" link after this post to see the source.
    Thanks.
