[SOLVED] NVidia driver for Dell XPS1340 (GeForce 9400M G)

Hi.
I don't know which nvidia driver install for my laptop, Dell XPS 1340. Before i had installed nvidia-173xx but now this driver doesn't work with new xorg-server (http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 20001.html).
I've kernel26-pae and i've install nvidia-pae driver, after installation i config with nvidia-xconfig but when i run startx i get this error:

Hi.
To fix this problem i've to edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file and add to kernel line vmalloc=192M option.

Hello,
I'm kind of a noob and am trying to get follow the directions from the Nvidia wiki on installing on a custom kernel. I'm trying to use the abs method to install on kernel26rt version 2.6.33rt. I followed directions exactly and am getting an error that I didn't find on any other posts. Can you please take a look? Here is my terminal:

I have tried installing "Dell Wireless 1701

But I saw neither wireless nor Bluetooth was defined.

I've lit windows detect the operating program for this device on the internet, it said "Windows has detected that the operating program of this device is up to date. As this screenshot shows.
What should I do because nothing lift to try? If you have a look at the ninth drivers in my previous message, you will see that no other drivers for Bluetooth lift.
Also, I have tried to install Intel

Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver, which made the bluetooth recognized by Windows 7(64Bit). However, the bluetooth in the device manager still has an exclamation mark as it is shown in the device manager.
I don't have any other drviers which can do more than the what Dell
Wireless 1702 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver did because I have tried all the drivers listed under 'Network', exept the what are for Etherent.
Yes, when I have tried adding the bluetooth between two laptops(Mohammad and Nasreen). the bluetooth was added for both laptops as you see in these screenshots below:
The Bluetooth devices of Nasreen's laptop whose bluetooth is having some problems in Device mangage.
The Bluetooth devices of Mohammad's laptop whosse Bluetooh is defined well in device manager.
But there is still problem in the device managre as shown in the screenshot listed before.
Second: (Important) That when I want to send files or recieving between two bluetooth added in either laptop, I could send them. Also, when I open the Mohammad's bluetooth added in Nansreen's laptop( screenshot
below), I can show what is inside it.
However, when I open the the Nasreen's bluetooth addd in Mohammad's laptop, I noticed no reponse at all because as you see that disconnected is written in fornt "Nasreen-Pc" as this screenshot:
Although sometimes Nasreen-Pc gets connected as screenshot below, but I am still not able to open the Bluetooth folder of Nasreen-pc from Mohammad-pc. When trying to do that, no response is there.
In other times, Nasreen-pc gets connected for a while, but it comes back disconnected.
Third:: I noticed that the name of Laptop whose Bluetooth was added listed in 'My computer' for the laptop whose Bluetooth is having some problems in the device manager.(First Screen shot below) However,
the name of the laptop whose Bluetooth is having problems wasn't listed on other laptop's "my computer"(Second Screen shot below)
Finally: : when I clicked "right-click" on "Nasreen-PC" and then clicking on "detecting and troublshooting issues", I found that windows informed me that :

Certain driver packages contain drivers from some of the essential services only and for additional services, separate drivers must be installed. Additionally, the service is installed only if a compatible device is installed (or paired).
Therefore, you are seeing the error.
If you are using the Bluetooth L2CAP Interface and Bluetooth Remote Control services and not able to install the services, you can try unpairing the device, restart the PC, pair the device and then check. If that too fails, you need to install a suitable
driver, sometimes even other OEM drivers solve the issue. You can Bing/Google about this. You can also contact Dell Support for more information.

I really didn't understand what you mean with in your first part the service is installed only if a compatible device is installed (or paired).
The Bluetooth is integrated with
the laptop, then where other services will come from, all service are related to Bluetooth.
If there are some additional services not related to Bluetooth,
then how can I either let them functioning well or disable them in order to get rid of the yellow exclamation mark
on the name of my laptop in the Device and printers.

Latest Nvidia Driver for G560 does not install!

Hi,
i've tried to install the latest nvidia driver for my G560. But it seems like the only driver working on this system is the preinstalled driver from Lenovo.
I always get the message that the driver can't find the required hardware. I've downloaded the correct (Win 7 64 Bit) and latest driver from Nvidias webpage. I've even tried some older drivers from the drivers archive.
Does anybody have a clue how I can solve my problem?

It does look like the correct driver. But I noticed this "Note: The following notebooks are not supported in this release: 1. Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power with Intel chipsets. 2. Can't find nvidia driver for my HP Pavilion dv6000

Hello,
I just upgraded my laptop from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Starter.
But i can't find a NVIDIA driver for it.
My laptop name is Pavilion DV6000 and i have a 32 BIT.
Please can somebody help me?

I understand that you are looking for a driver for your notebook, and that you have upgraded to windows 7.
Please post the full product number for your notebook, so I can post a link to the supported drivers for your notebook.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
If there are not supported drivers for that product from HP, then it means the unit was never sold in that configuration. Then I would refer you to this page: What if I Don't See My Operating System?
The problem then is more about trying to find drivers that will work, that have not been customized by HP to work with the other components on the notebook.

Compiling nvidia driver for custom kernel

I have a Toshiba M200 tablet PC running Arch Linux (which I love, btw) and it's running fine, including the tablet.
There's an irritating bug with suspend-to-ram (suspend-to-disk doesn't work with the nvidia driver) where the tablet pen stops working after resume.
There's a patch slated to be in some future kernel, but I compiled my own with that patch included. It boots fine and all seems to be well with it.
However, I need to compile the nvidia driver for it, since the binary does not work. So I copy /var/abs/extra/nvidia and modify the PKGBUILD and nvidia.install files per the instructions on this wiki page, and run makepkg -i -c .
I get a big error message early on, saying

I've checked everything I can think of.
$ uname -r
2.6.25-tablet
ls -l /usr/src shows linux-2.6.25-tablet, and linux is a symlink to it. /lib/modules/2.6.25-tablet/build is also symlinked to the right kernel source tree.
So I'm out of ideas for why the nvidia makefile can't seem to find the kernel source.

I think that may be the root of the trouble: I compiled the kernel on my desktop (C2D 2.8) rather than my wussy laptop (1.6 Centrino). It installed and ran fine and all that, but I only have the kernel source tree that was included in the package, not the one that really compiled the code. Would simply copying it suffice, or should I rebuild the kernel on my laptop? Also, the PKGBUILD is included below.

The PKGBUILD, somewhat customized from the nvidia ABS. I don't think any of the changes are overly shocking.
I've tried dozens of different modifications of it now. The simplest one is just appending '-tablet' to pkgname and _kernver.

Any new Nvidia driver for Macbook pro?

Hey, after I upgrade to new OSX 10.6.x, my software Houdini (www.sidefx.com) viewport flickers every frame. It used to work fine on 10.5.x.
I don't know it's the problem for OSX or Nvidia driver, at least, it worked fine on 10.5.x, so I think it is the new OSX bug.
I use Macbook pro, I tried both 9400m or 9600m can't work. Please fix this.

NVIDIA driver for optimus capable cards and UEFI

Has anyone have had any luck installing the nvidia (proprietary) driver for laptop with nvidia card like the Y series?
I can't boot the laptop after installing the Nvidia driver. After installing the driver, I get an error saying "device not found" and drops to a shell mode.

Yes, I did make this thread, but a month ago. Since then I have it resolved, and I even have it tagged as resolved. Back then, I had a lot of problem making it work. But that was a month ago.
And yes, I admit now that there are still issues with the driver. But as I've said at least twice already, the issues exist because native support NVIDIA provides is still relatively new. And yes, people are still experiencing problems because, I'll say it again for the third time, native support is still relatively new and therefore can be buggy.
I think it's totally off pace to make factual statements based on one's experience. You're not paying attention to what you're reading and you're very quick to jump to conclusions. NVIDIA most certainly doesn't say that it doesn't support Optimus on linux based OSes. There are minimum required kernel and xrandr versions, and that's pretty much it. They even tell you how to install it on their website:

There can be/are issues after you install it, and as I mentioned before, I summarized in another thread as to how I got around a lot of the issues I had. Click my username and view it.
Finally, every other person and their grandmother is using Ubuntu these days, so there is a lot of support out there for it. I'd imagine that for the latest version of Ubuntu, someone out there has posted a step-by-step guide as to how to install the nvidia driver on an optimus card. The major issue is with older kernels or I'd imagine BSD, etc.

...any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't expect to have this much driver difficulty when I install at home next week, and this office machine is really just a practice run. I suspect that the driver issue might be at least partially down to the fact that this is maybe not one of Nvidia's more standard SOHO-market cards. It came in this huge Dell workstation that weighs a ton...owell.

Driver for Dell Monitor

Hi, has anyone out there found a driver for a dell monitor? I have a Dell1908FP that I'd like to swivel and use in vertical mode but Dell does not have mac drivers on its website. All suggestions appreciated.

[SOLVED] nVidia driver 195.36.08 causes KDE4.4 to crash after logging?

Hi to all Archers
I noticed the new nVidia driver (195.36.08) on pacman's yesterday updates, I didn't update it immediately and preferred to wait until I was available to fiddle with it in case things went wrong. Apparently, that was the case
Here's what happens if I install the new driver:
KDM starts as usual, I login in, I see KDE loading progress and before it finishes, boom it crashes and returns to KDM login once again.
I tried reinstalling KDE, Xorg and read nVidia wiki to see if there is any hints. I tried once again with a new stock xorg.conf, and removed .nvidia-settings-rc and even disabled KDE compositing but all this couldn't help getting KDE up and running.
However, when I reinstall the previous version (190.53) everything is back to normal.
So what I want to know is am I the only one who gets this problem or there're others here having the same issue?
Because the first time I installed the nVidia driver (almost 3 months now) I used their own installer then used Arch packages afterwards, I suspect that perhaps their installer messed things up !?
For now the solution is to stick to the previous version.
I'm using Arch Linux 32bit and my GC is an nVidia 7300GT.

Does it really surprise you that a company that only makes PCs does not support Macs?
The Dell site lists the printer language as "Host Based(GDI)". Translation--it won't work on a Mac or any Linux computer.

Printer driver for Dell Photo Printer 954

I am about to give my Macbok Pro to a person with a Dell Photo Printer 954. I have been trying to find a driver for the printer to install on the laptop but it appears that Dell doesn't make drivers for Macs. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the Printer and laptop to work together?

Not surprisingly, Dell doesn't provide an OS X driver for it. Assuming since you've asked it doesn't work, so you may need another printer. I've used Canon printers for years, and my curret MP560 AIO works nicely via wireless connection.

Hello. I've inherited a cheap and cheerful Dell printer/scanner (model A920). I don't believe Dell ever made a driver for the Mac... what is the best third party or open source driver to get this printer hooked up to my Powerbook G4 (running 10.4.11) or our brand new Intel MacBook?
