[SOLVED] nvidia-settings taking a long time to load.

I just got an nvidia card yesterday, so I'm not sure if this is regular behavior, but nvidia-settings take about 3-5 minutes to load.   I'm using KDE.   When I try to load it from the terminal I see a bunch of errors like this:

I searched around for this issue, and found people who had similar problems with Firefox in the past, but I never see anyone who has solved it.  On my setup I don't have this issue with any other app besides nvidia-settings.

Ok today i noticed that if I delete ~/.nvidia-settings-rc, the UI loads instantly just like it's supposed to.   I started googling around and found that there is indeed a bug in nvidia-settings which has something to do with the way it handles a machine's hostname.
If I edit ~/.nvidia-settings-rc and delete every line that starts with my hostname, the program loads instantly.   When you close nvidia-settings, it will re-write the file, and the next time you start it, you're back to waiting a long time for the UI to load.   It seems there is nothing that can be done to truly fix this until nvidia fixes the bug that is causing it.
Thank you! I had this problem since the latest update.
To avoid having to remove/edit the configuration file, I have added a line in /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 myhostname

  • Reports taking unusually long time to load

    Gurus,
I am using BO 4.1 SP1. I am trying to open a report  on BI launchpad. But it is taking very long time to load. This occurs even when i am trying to access the last instance. Window remains in the following state.
I checked load on the server. But tha'ts fine. What could be the issue?

    Hi,
Ok, that's strange because the connection server doesn't actually handle data processing.
(that would typically be the WebiProcServer or DSL_Bridge or DF service (depending on workflow))
My advice would be to turn off 'refresh on open',  change viewer technology to "web view" (as opposed to Java rich internet client)  and start investigating again from that baseline.
Also, this might be indicative of a BIplatform sizing or APS configuration issue. another option: have you upped your memory allocation to the Tomcat config?

  • Sharepoint Report is taking very long time to load

SharePoint(2010) Report is taking very long time to load and display in first attempt but from the next attempt it loads and display result normally. It's urgent..please help how to troubleshoot ...

    Hi Kunal,
is there multiple report viewer webpart on page? if so then SharePoint doesn't do well with multiple report viewer web parts. if possible then merge the reports in one.
Try to implement SSRS caching/ Database snapshots for reporting services, it will help you to improve the performance:

If it's taking awhile to load it could be due to slow network speed or interference. It's around 600MB. If on ethernet, some have reported issues, try wifi.

  • OEM Grid Control taking a long time to load tablespace information

We use OEM Grid control to monitor many dev/tst/prd databases. OEM is taking a long time to load the tablespace page information on one of our RAC databases (only one all other dbs ok). I have tried going to 1 instance in the environment and it still takes a long time to load the information about all tablespaces in this database. OEM Path is
Cluster: crs > Cluster Database: sid > Database Instance: sid_instance1 > Tablespaces
This is a development environment and it is not a very busy database at this time. Anyone else encounter an issue like this with OEM?
Thanks in advance for any information

Purge your recyclebin. I had the same problem on one of our databases and realised that the recyclebin was very large. OEM uses the space from the recyclebin as well in order to load tablespace and datafile information.
    SQL> purge dba_recycebin;
    Worked for me.
    Regards,Thanks,
    It worked perfectly !
It used to take 4 minutes to view my tablespaces in OEM !!! Now I have sub second response time !
Still find it strange that the size of the recyclebin would have such an effect when viewing tablespace info in OEM. By the way it also sped up the viewing of datafiles in OEM.

  • DIAdem taking a long time to load 700MB TDMS file to data portal

I'm trying to load a 700MB TDMS file into DIAdem ,4 channels 10Hz sampling rate over 4 days . When i drag the file into the data portal , diadem freezes up , its on a 2GB machine, file located on the desktop, not running any other programs and it went 50min without being able to load before i made it quit. seems to work fine on smaller files though . Was wondering if this sounds normal and if anyone knows a way around it.

    Thanks for all your input.
YongqinYe and Brad : I've tried defragmenting but this also seems to be taking a  long time (in excess of ) on 2 different machines. The index file is 300MB, so about 75% of the *.tdms,
Otmar:  i also tried registry loading the data but this still took a long time  on this particular file although it worked great on smaller files (5MB).
Brad : the file does not open in the labVIEW TDMS viewer  although i'm able to view it in chunks of 65000 using the TDMS importer for excel.
Stefan: the file does have explicit time stamp channel .
Any extra help would be appreciated but the way I'm thinking of doing it now is to use much longer buffer size (from only 6 to a few hundred) when collecting the data to decrease the level of fragmentation.

  • Edge Animate .oam files taking a long time to load or not loading at all?

    http://pierosalardi.businesscatalyst.com
Is there a way to correct this? I have exported this Muse Site and uploaded into my server and the same thing is happening: http://pierosalardi.com/animate/ Its taking to much time to load the .oam files and sometimes they do not load at all.
This is a screen shot after reseting Safari and going to the site. If you see, there is no logo on the up right hand corner, or the icons at the bottom of the page
This is another screenshot after reloading the site. Some how all the .oam files came together but only after reloading the site.
Is there a way to correct this? I saw in another post that needed to replace the iFrame on the Muse html file and replace it with the html code generated by Edge.
    Couldn't get it to work.

    Hey Piero,
Love your site! I'm not seeing the loading issue, but I'm also on a fast connection so that might be it.
Took a look at the source - it looks like each button is it's own individual OAM file, which increases your load time due to the extra requests the browser has to make to load everything. Have you tried consolidating the left and right button groups into two Animate projects instead of having a seperate one for each button? This may solve your loading problems.
You can copy and paste between projects inside of Animate so aggregating the buttons into one file should be pretty snappy.

  • Quicktimes taking very long time to load-Big Q appears instead.

When posting ipod (small) quicktimes to my .mac account (4 per page), the site is taking a really long time to load-a large Q appears instead of the usual Quicktime video frame for a few minutes. They eventually load, but it takes a long time. I've used this program and these files for a year without incident, and now there is this huge delay for my clients. The files aren't very big 2MB-20MB.
Maybe it's my Safari or Firefox acting up?
Here's the site if anyone is able to have a quick look and tell me if it loads quickly on their machine:
    http://web.mac.com/chopperfilms/iWeb/Steve%20Gaskin/Projects%201.html
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

To wait for 27MB to load is too big or rather long wait for your audience/visitor. Set poster frames for all and use movie ref to load only the one the visitor chooses so they don't get the letter 'Q' and use 'fast start' so loading long or big files feels like less waiting. Were poster frames and movie refs getting done automatically by iWeb before?
I am actually getting the letter 'Q' with a question mark in it 60/40 percent of the time in a QuickTime I posted which I am trying to figure how to get rid of.

  • FF 6.0.2 still having problems with pages taking a long time to load.

Seems that news websites take a long time to load properly
skynews.com kirotv.com are two I use everyday. First time I load the pages, FF seems to have a problem, when I go back to them later, all seems to load fast. This problem happens any time of day.

Did you make any drastic changes to your PC before upgrading to 6.0.1? If not maybe you could do a clean install of Firefox then see what happens. Remember to save your bookmarks, settings, etc. first before uninstallling.

It sounds like your computer was taking a long time to read the app from the Hardrive.

  • Particular webpages taking a long time to load

Around 80% of the time webpages are loading fine but I'm experiencing frequent problems with a number if sites (outlook.com, google etc.) where the webpage won't load or it will take a long time to load. I've tried loading the pages on IE, Firefox and Chrome, I've cleared the cache on each broswer, cleared my dns cache and the problems still persists. Turning off the Homehub firewall fixed the problem but I don't want to keep the firewall off.
Any suggestions or advice much appreciated.

Try a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the recess button on the rear for about 20 second. This can often sort out configuration problems.

Trying to watch youtube videos and connection from news source. It has been taking along time to load and then will not play... Do I have a setting off any ideas? This has not been the case until recently

Try to restart using your installer disk, by inserting your installer disk and restart while pressing C.
And after it reboot using installer disk and you select the installer language, got o utilities and repair permission and disk.
Also try to reset your PRAM and SMC:

  • PC taking a LONG time to load everything before the win logo, after BIOS update.

Every single time I turn on my PC, it takes a REALLY long time to start the first DOS-like screen and then it takes another while before the windows logo shows up. About 4-5 mins before the win logo. It used to be fast and sweet before updating my MSI MB BIOS...
It all started when I updated the BIOS the first time (I just thought it was something good to do). The start up took a long time like 25% of the times and it got worse every month. I tried changing the config in the BIOS but nothing helped, so recently I decided to update the BIOS again with a flash drive step by step as indicated in the MSI website with their software, only to find out that the problem got worse and that it happened 100% of the times I turn my PC on.
When the start-up is slow, it gets stuck in that black pre-DOS like screen, showing a "B4" in the bottom right corner. After that the usual first screen with some info shows up for about 3 seconds, then it all goes black again and shows some other pair of codes on the same corner (B2, A4,....)
Today I tried manuallly reseting the MB to see if it helped (I removed the battey for a while, then used the reset CMOS button to make sure). It did not help at all. I have tried changing the hard drives from IDE to AHCI but windows 8 won't start: after showing its logo for a while, it shows a blue screen of death with the sad smily :( and tries to reset (I have to manually reset it afterwards). I have one 2TB WD green hard drive and one SSD in which I have windows 8 installed.
I found some text today on the MB MSI website on the BIOS versions page... which I didn't see at the time, and it shows up only in my smartphone: "We recommend to only update to the M8 class module if you have an Ivy bridge processor. There is no way to go back to the previous M module after the update" (this is from memory by the way)
Something to add, I used the Crystal Disk Info software to check my drives and it showed the were in good condition. Then used CrystalDiskMark 3.0.3 to test them and got low numbers in my opinion; for the WD green
       Sequential Read : 76 MB/s, Random Read 512KB : 26 MB/s, Random Write 512KB : 41 MB/s.
    And for the SSD
       Sequential Read : 167 MB/s, Random Read 512KB : 161 MB/s, Random Write 512KB : 111 MB/s
    My relevant PC parts are:
    Intel i5 2500k (sandy bridge)
    MSI Z68A GD65 (B3)
SSD Mushkin Chronos 120GB SATA 6GB-s (windows 8.1 installed here) (MKNSSDCR120GB)
    2TB Western Digital HD (WD20EARS)
    2x Ati 6950 crossfire
I also already tried turning it ON with everything disconnected, changing the video card slots, using only one... etc.
Any ideas on how to fix this or what's causing it? I really need some help here...  If you need more info, I will be checking this constantly and will deliver your requests.

I already fixed the IDE to AHCI problem, which was the minor one. Solution for this: Use regedit to change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\"Error Control" to 0 and delete StartOverride. Then you should be able to go into BIOS and change to AHCI mode. You'll need to do this again if you ever start up in IDE mode.
But I still need to fix the main one which is the slow startup... please help!
B4 is a USB problem! what USB devices do you have plugged in? (if its a keyboard and/or Mouse please say what they are like make and model!)

  • PS CS3 taking a long time to load and seems to "spin" when Reading Preferences.

I've noticed this problem a few days ago, and am unsure what I should do about it. PS used to load very quickly, and now when launching, it will spin for a good 90 seconds while reading the preferences. Is there a way to reset the preferences? Is this a sign of something else?
    I'm running PS CS3 10.0.1 on OSX v. 10.4.11. Here's a cut & paste of the system info:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 10.0.1
    Operating System: Mac OS 10.4.9
System architecture: PowerPC G5 with AltiVec
    Physical processor count: 1
    Processor speed: 2000 MHz
    Built-in memory: 1024 MB
    Free memory: 384 MB
Memory available to Photoshop: 979 MB
Memory used by Photoshop: 67 %
    Image cache levels: 6
Photoshop scratch has async I/O enabled
    Scratch volume(s):
    Macintosh HD, 148.9G, 58.6G free
    Primary Plug-ins folder: Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe Photoshop CS3:Plug-Ins:
    Additional Plug-ins folder: not set

Not to answer for Buko, but he may be asking what happens if you were a brand new install? In other words when the PS application first creates the preference files.
I have similar issues with PS and Illustrator CS3, more than any time before. Frankly they load a lot of crap. I noticed that this was especially pronounced for CS3 applications.
Denise, my main machine is a G5 Quad Processor running at 2.5 Ghz and I have 16 gigs of RAM. It takes PS and Illustrator about 30 to 40 seconds to load. My point is that we have very similar machines but that I have a bit more muscle and I am getting a comparable time. Imagine if you had my machine you might get the slightly reduced start time. Its not a happy situation but our machines are getting slightly long in the tooth.
A lot of modern apps on the Mac are now using XML files for prefs and they have a habit of getting damaged and corrupted. I would manually locate them in your User directory and remove all of them by hand. Then you should do something that most do not consider.
Optimize your drives with a tool like Tech Tool or Disk Warrior. A fragmented drive severely affects PS operation in 3 ways:
1st: If you watch the PS splash screen as it loads, its loading a long list of pieces, if those are scattered across many disconnected sectors, thats slow.
2nd: If your scratch drive is pooched, that will slow down Photoshop. Don't forget what a scratch really is, its virtual memory, in other words fake RAM. BTW it never a good idea to have Photoshop and/or your OS on the same partition as your documents and scratch drive. If your hard drive is big enough, partition it or spring for another drive, they are cheap.
3rd: If your image/PS documents are on fragmented drives, again slow pokes. PS struggles to pull the sectors together.
Your info above was helpful but I could not tell what how much RAM you have, is it really 1 meg? Thats really small, more RAM will help a lot, then there is less scratch disk usage.
Finally another factor in speed, what is your dives spindle speed and access time? Faster is better.
    Much luck.

  • Apple TV taking a long time to load purchased content

I purchased shows on my Apple TV, but I get one of two messages 1) my show will be ready in x hours (enter absurdly long timeframe here) or 2) unable to connect to iTunes. I ran a speed test, and my ping is 30 ms, download 30Mbps and upload 7Mbps. I am on fiber optic internet, so I do not have a modem. However, I have power cycled the ATV and the wireless router. I have replaced the wireless router with a dual band router. I have connected the ATV directly to the router via ethernet. My ISP says it must be an Apple issue as they can see nothing wrong with my service, and I can still stream content for Netflix, Youtube, etc.
    Any ideas?

Provided you get sustained 30Mbps and your ISP isn't throttling speed at certain times, it should work fine.
You only need 8 Mbps for near instant 1080p playback from iTunes store.  Slower and it will buffer/recalculate/buffer/recalculate…and you may see minutes or many hours predicted if downloading is slow.
Netflix and other will work with less as they adjust quality in relation to connection speed.
The ethernet excluded a wifi issue, and the only other local concern would be another user on your network downloading and reducing overall bandwidth.
It could be Apple's servers having a bad day or two.
The only other thought would be your DNS servers - use your ISPs default as some (such as OpenDNS I believe) can re-route traffic and makes accessing Apple's streaming servers very slow.  There are a few posts here where DNS servers have been the culprit.
