[solved] override/disable shortcuts in firefox?

I've been looking for a way to disable keyboard shortcuts - especially one particular keyboard shortcut - in firefox temporarily. (Basically until firefox 14 comes out which I think should fix the problem.)
Does anybody know of a straightforward way to do this? Either within firefox or otherwise? I'm using KDE but firefox doesn't respect the systemwide shortcuts.
I can't imagine it matters but just in case, I want to disable the ctrl+c shortcut which my fingers believe means "copy" but which firefox currently believes means "close current tab". (This is a bug in the localisation.)

For anybody else finding this, a comment in one of the reviews for the extension  bohoomil suggested points to an extension which is much easier to use. This can be found at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyconfig_extension via a link. (You have to allow firefox to install from the forum site as this isn't in the addons, it seems.)
This is nicer. For one thing, it highlights all of the conflicting shortcuts installed by default which helps in eliminating them. (It also warns you if you try to use a shortcut already in use.) You can also sort by shortcut which I found very helpful.
Although initially it didn't let me do this, after restarting, I find that ctrl+c copies text! One informative aspect of this extension is that it shows some shortcuts greyed out. I think these are the ones disabled due to conflicts. Once you remove the conflicts and restart, ctrl+c for copying is reactivated. For some reason, these remain greyed out in the extensions list but they seem to work fine in reality. (I've so far tried ctrl+c,v,a.)

I would like to create a keyboard shortcut for firefox for the EMail Link menu item. I specified shift-Command-S as the keyboard shortcut. When I hit the key sequence the File on the menubar flashes but the Email Link window never opens. Does anyone have a clue as to what I need to do to get this to work or is there a reason it doesn't work. I do use Outlook for my mail client. You need automator to create services, as detailed in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2241804 a four-parter by Sal Saghoian on *Automation in Snow Leopard*
This, describes old and new automator—services stuff:
    http://www.reynoldsftw.com/2009/08/automator-and-finder-interactions-in-os-x-10- 6/
    Alternatively, just save the script
    *+tell application "Firefox" to activate+*
as an app, put it on the Dock, and click it to activate it. However, seems simpler just to put the FF icon on the Dock and a single click launches it. Why would you want a service or AS to do the same thing?

Type tls into the search box and tap the Enter key to find all preferences that contain tls.
Under '''security.enable_tls''' tap the Toggle button to switch its value from true to false.
    Does that work?
There is a similar preference for ssl3.
I saw elsewhere that the ssl3 and tls preferences will be changing in Firefox 23. I'm not sure how the old preferences will migrate to the new ones...

  • Cutomization - Disable shortcut keys

We are working in an enterprise environment, where our requiement is to give Customize Firefox to the users. Only Address Bar visible to the user.

2- Icon along the Address bar. (Task Done)
3- Disable all Shortcut keys. (Partial Done)
4- Disable all commands of about (i.e about:config)
I have explored about the disabling of shortcut key, it cannot be done through user prefences js file as I did for Task 1 & 2. We can to do with xul programming as I read. We dont want to use the Third party Extensions as for this we have to do for each user. We want to do change in the base file from where user profile generated.
I have disabled the shortcut keys by editing in the [ C:\%Firefox Dir%\omni.ja\chrome\browser\content\browser\browser.xul ]
just by adding disbaled = "true" attribute
    [<key id="key_openAddons" key="&addons.commandkey;" command="Tools:Addons" disabled="true" modifiers="accel,shift"/>
    <menuitem id="menu_openAddons" label="&addons.label;" accesskey="&addons.accesskey;" disabled="true" key="key_openAddons" command="Tools:Addons"/>]
The Shortcut key disabled but only for the administrator but not work for the normal users whose menu disabled or not.
No issue for Admin user ethier shortcut disabled but not rest features.
Please help in this regard. Either any other file which create the user profile and for point no 4. or How to resolve this issue.

Looking for an alternate method to do this without an event structure.  My implementation uses a state machine with while loops, and is setup to only respond to specific keystrokes/mouse clicks, at specific times.  When in these states, it waits for the user to interract, and can not proceed until they do (by either progressing with the sequence, or aborting it).
When I implement the method provided, it does work when it is in the state that expects F1, but if the user presses F1 at any other time, the event is triggered, and the VI goes into an invalid state (locks up).  I do inderstand that normally an event structure would be the correct implementation for keyboard inputs, but the application needs to respond in different ways depending on the user input, and needs to ignore all user input at other times.  I couldn't figure out a practical way to ignore events while in certain states, so I implemented the statem machine instead.
Any ideas?  Working in LV 2013. Thanks in advance.

  • Trick for disabling shortcuts in Text edit?

Does anyone know a trick for overriding or disabling a keyboard shortcut while in Text edit mode in Fireworks?
A while back, I added a custom keyboard shortcut (Shift +) to allow me to cycle forward through blend modes, via command. This is the default keystroke combination used by Photoshop, and it's also a shortcut that I've added to Illustrator, so it's my preferred choice. However, I recently noticed while in Fireworks' Text edit mode that I cannot type a simple "+" sign, because it triggers the blend mode command instead. This isn't a problem in Photoshop or Illustrator—somehow, they bypass keyboard shortcuts while in Text edit mode, but Fireworks 8 does not.
It occurs to me now that I could temporarily switch to Fireworks' standard keyboard shortcuts set while I'm editing text, and then switch back to my custom set once I'm done. Alternatively, I could use the Character Viewer in the Mac OS to insert the "+" character—which is even easier to do if I add that character to my Favorites.
These are pretty good solutions... but if anyone has a quicker method, I'd be interested. I'm also curious whether newer versions of Fireworks have the same issue. It seems like a number of users on this forum have had problems with Text suddenly disappearing... I don't know if there could be a correlation. In general, it would seem like a good idea for Fireworks to override shortcuts while in Text edit mode, à la Photoshop.

Just came up with another solution, which is to use FW's Text Editor (under Text > Editor...). No problems when trying to enter a "+" sign while in this window. Cool.

  • Disable shortcut keys for Universal Access

At our school we have a bit of an issue with students using keyboard shortcuts to set the Universal Access options (usually to Black on White, but also Zoom and VoiceOver), which freaks out the next student using the computer. I'd like to disable the shortcut keys for those settings. Are there ARD Unix commands that would do it?

    Hello Francois,
Thank you for your fast reply!
I tried your recommendation, but got the following result:
When I have a label of "& OK" with the blank symbol as ALT-255, the Button in the Alert Box still has the focus. It seems as if there now is a blank in front of the OK (which is underlined). This does not really solve my issue, because the Button still has the focus and that should not be. The best solution for the user would be if he only could accept the message with a mouse klick.
    Is there an other suggestion?
    Thank you so much!

qbittorrent is actually really good except for this one bug. The alternatives (deluge, rtorrent) suck more.
BTW: Solved the problem like this:
    $ cat /etc/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf

    D /var/tmp 1777 root root 10d

I've had this happen now and again. You can rebind the lease yourself with:
    $ dhcpcd --rebind
You could also try increasing the timeout by adding
    TimeoutDHCP=
to your netctl profile/s - see netctl.profile(5) as WonderWoofy suggests. Although I haven't tried the latter.
