(Solved) package-query trying to downgrade pacman

i want to install yaourt on my system. one of its dependencies package-query (also AUR) depends upon pacman <= 3.6 for installing, while i have pacman 4.0.0rc1-1 on my system. so when i try to install it, it tries to downgrade my pacman to 3.5.4-4.
is there a way around it? any suggestions would be welcome, even if its very unlikely (i would love to tinker)

  • [SOLVED] Package-Query build error

    I'm trying to get my new Arch system setup, and I'm having trouble getting Yaourt installed. I can't seem to get package-query to build successfully. I have base-devel installed, and I've followed the instructions in the wiki on installing AUR packages. After running "makepkg -s" from the package-query directory it seems to go fine until the end, where I see this output.
    make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
    ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in package().
    Aborting...
    And that's it. Not sure what I'm missing here.
    Thanks.

    I take that back, after another look I did notice a couple of errors. They're near the bottom of the output. I'm sure it's something simple, and I'm probably going to end up looking like an idiot , but anyway, here's the entire output.

  • Cannot upgrade pacman due to conflict with package-query [SOLVED]

    Package query 0.9 requires pacman <4, package-query 1 requires pacman >=4, therefore I am totally unable to upgrade, even using pacman -f
    I'm aware that package-query is unsupported software, but this seems a bit stupid to me! Am I to uninstall package-query and therefore yaourt, only to reinstall them by hand, or is there a safe workaround?

    Or, realistically, 5 minutes.
    But if that is too much for you to spare, rather than bemoaning the fact that the developers have spent a significant amount of time and effort on this upgrade that will cause you such inconvenience, you could just install another distro - that would probably eat a day.
    Every other distro I've tried is inferior and eats up far more frustration time than Arch, which is why it's now on all my machines. I'm still putting off upgrading my 4 machines, though - because painful recent experience tells me that the chances of all 4 getting through this without day-eating breakage is about 6% (If you want a laugh at my expense, see this woeful example of breakage https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/27385). And yes, I'm aware that the longer I put it off, the worse my chances get.
    Edit:
    machine one (netbook).
    Time taken so far: 44 minutes (inc reading up on a few errors, plus line-by-line comparison of rc.conf.pacnew, reboot plus check of basic system workiness, plus waiting unsuccessfully for package-query source to download).
    Status: yaourt uninstallable (package-query git server appears to be down), openjdk6 broken due to bug, system otherwise appears healthy.
    Prognosis: Total 90 minutes for 4 machines seems a reasonable (optimistic) estimate, but I'll further put the other machines off until package-query git server is back up and running.
    And many apologies, this has veered somewhat off-topic and off-forum. I will probably make this my last post and let it die.
    Further edit: How do I mark a thread as SOLVED? I can't see an option anywhere, or any way to edit the thread title!
    edit: Nevermind, the trick is to edit the first post in the thread, it would seem.

  • [SOLOVED] 'pacman -S yaourt' tries for 64bit package-query on 32bit

    I've been getting a 32bit chroot installed recently and have started over several times for learning and documentation purposes. One issue that has occurred every time is as follows:
    - Per the ArchWiki, I have added the following to /opt/arch32/etc/pacman.conf to allow for 'pacman -S yaourt':
    [archlinuxfr]
    Server = http://repo.archlinux.fr/i686
    - the only uncommented mirror in /opt/arch32/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist is:
    --- Server = http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis … po/os/i686
    - everything that follows is done from my 32bit chroot, setup per the ArchWiki, with base and base-devel, daemon started, etc.
    - pacman -Syu && pacman -S yaourt
    - I have gotten this output every time I've tried:
    [jwhendy@bigBang ~]$ sudo pacman -S yaourt

    So... everything pacman is grabbing is i686 except package-query. Why in the world would this be? I would assume this happens on an actual 32bit install as well, but not sure... Could it have to do with me being on a 32bit chroot? I can't figure out how it would selectively be grabbing i686 and 64bit packages given my pacman.conf and mirrorlist, though...
    - Workaround:
    --- I've been just doing 'pacman -S curl yajl' and then using makepkg -si to install package-build from AUR
    I wanted to post this, though, as I think something is wrong in a depends list or repo somewhere to be causing this time after time.
    Is this me being stupid or is there something else going on here?

  • Error: target not found: package-query =1.0 although I have it

    I used to work on Arch but it was installed for me by a friend, now I decided to install it on my own and it was a success! But when I tried installing yaourt it didn't work. I know that it needs package-query so I installed it, but when I try to build yaourt it fails..
    [clairka@clairka yaourt]$ makepkg -s

    [sudo] password for clairka:
    error: target not found: package-query>=1.0
    ==> ERROR: 'pacman' failed to install missing dependencies.
    So I tried to rebuild package-query
    [clairka@clairka package-query]$ makepkg -s
    ==> ERROR: A package has already been built. (use -f to overwrite)
    Even if I use -f to overwrite I get always the same output. Does anybody know how to fix this? I was really used to use yaourt to install packages from AUR. Thanks.

  • [SOLVED]Trying to install package-query again. Cannot find PKGBUILD.

    I'm updating my arch after 4 months. Yes it has been a long time.
    During the update process I had to remove package-query and yaourt, and now I'm trying to get them back.
    I got package-query from here https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=35915
    Untared it, went inside, and did makepkg -s, but the PKGBUILD could not be found. I looked through the directories and didn't see a PKGBUILD anywhere.
    Am I missing something?

    Did you click the 'Download Tarbel' link on the right side of the page? (Correct choice)
    Or the link under the Sources Bar ? (Incorrect choice)

    Do I need to add another key manually to install packages manually from the AUR?

    You should learn to use makepkg before you start using a wrapper.

  • [SOLVED] Everytime I Try To install a package it tries to reinstall.

    Hi,
    My problem is that everytime I try to do a pacman -S package it tries to reinstall base. I did a pacstrap to install everything but pacman didnt create a /var/libs/pacman. I then created that directory and set it using pacman -b. Then did a pacman -syy and updated. It still says ive got packages within the filesystem and pacman wont install anything. This isnt my first arch install its my 10th. Ive tried reinstalling three times today.
    Anyone got any suggestions?
    Thanks

    * I apologize for my selfishness.  My error was as follows, in the live cd there is a file hierarchy similar to that of the one we are trying to create off mount. As such I was doing this.
        mount /dev/sdX /mnt
        mkdir  /mnt/{boot,var,home}
        mount /dev/sdX /boot
    Instead of doing this....
        mount /dev/sdX /mnt
        mkdir /dev/sdX /mnt/{boot,var,home}
        mount /dev/sdX /mnt/boot
    It was a simple mistake and one that I could probably make a hundred times over.
    Thanks for showing me the forum etiquette.

  • Tried to downgrade to xorg 1.6

    Hey!
    I have an Ati X700 Mobility and my laptop crashes every few minutes with xorg 1.7. First I worked with it and I thought with the first patches of xorg the problems will be erased. But now with Version 1.7.3.901.1 I also have the same problems and I can't work with this machine, but I have to. KMS also doesnt work with it. So I tried to downgrade to xorg 1.6 with this repo (http://doorknob60.is-a-geek.org/xorg-old/i686), but I have this error:
    pacman -S xorg-server
    Warnung: Downgrade des Paketes xorg-server (1.7.3.901-1 => 1.6.3.901-1)
    Löse Abhängigkeiten auf...

    :: xorg-server steht im Konflikt mit xf86-input-evdev. xf86-input-evdev entfernen? [J/n] n
    Fehler: Nicht lösbare Paketkonflikte gefunden
    Fehler: Konnte den Vorgang (In Konflikt stehende Abhängigkeiten) nicht vorbereiten
    :: xorg-server: steht im Konflikt mit xf86-input-evdev
    So how can I downgrade my xorg to 1.6?
    Best regards!
    Lothium

    Ok, here is my everything.log . At this time, my xorg crashed 3-4 times. One time I opened kate, the other one I click with the right mouse button on the desktop and the other one I opened firefox.

    To build the package from ABS.

    You should only need it if you modified 'Makefile.am' or

    I'm trying to downgrade my icloud storage; however, my MAC book will not upgrade pass 10.6.8 and I don't have my iphone anymore.  If there another way for me to do this?  I've tried everything I can find online and of course my coverage has expired and can't call the support team.

    Hello Lara,
    have you already called Apple and explained your current situation, because I don't see a way to downgrade your storage plan with a Mac only running Snow Leopard and without a iOS device running at least iOS 5.
    Best regards.

  • Need help in the process of trying to downgrade back to iPhoto '09...

    I want to see all the exif info for my photos as I am getting into DSLR photography.  This is one of the reasons I am trying to downgrade back to iPhoto '09 from '11 amongst other reasons; one being I just preferred it (and I have been using '11 since January and still want to downgrade).  Anyway, this is what I have done so far:
    Reinstalled iPhoto '09 from an old time machine backup in December '13 from before I upgraded late December.  Then with the help of a youtube video I found I created a new iPhoto Library for '09 and was in the process of importing all my pics when 3/4 of the way through, my hard drive reached capacity and the importing quit.  When I go into iPhoto '09 now, there are no pics.  So I spent yesterday buying a large external hard drive and the past 18 or so hours formatting it for mac and moving files so now I have a bit more room on my internal 1tb hard drive.
    So I am guessing I should next go to the newly created iPhoto library on my internal hard drive and delete all (not to mention this will free up more room on it).  Then what I want to do is create a new library for iPhoto '09 on my new 3TB external hard drive and then import all the pics there.  Can I create the iPhoto Library on an external drive?
    If I am able to do the above and import all my pics and iPhoto '09 seems to be working properly, can I then go in and delete the iPhoto '11 app without causing problems?  Am I right to believe that all my pictures, even the ones I imported to iPhoto '11 directly from a mail attachment, will not be deleted if I delete the iPhoto '11 app?
    I don't want to find myself with 2 iPhoto programs, neither of which function.  Thanks in advance!

    You need the version of iPhoto that you wan tot use installed and then follow the IPLM directions
    http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/Help/downgrading%20a%20library%20to%20an%20ea rlier%20version%20of%20iphoto.html
    Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto
    If you have a library from a newer version of iPhoto that you simply want "downgrade" to an older version of iPhoto, the easiest way to do that is with the "Rebuild Library" command. You will want to be running iPhoto Library Manager on the machine that has the older version of iPhoto you want to convert the library to. This will create a new library and import the entire contents of the original library into the new one using the older version of iPhoto. As with any rebuild, there are some items that will not be included (most notably, hidden photos, books, calendars, and slideshows), but if you have none of these items or don't mind losing them in the downgrading process, then this is a decent option for converting a library to an older version.
