[SOLVED] Packages with screenshots

Is there a way to put screenshots of packages up somewhere on the wiki for example as reference? Sometimes I just want to browse through apps and see what they look like. Concrete example: I am using gjiten and it is really beautiful to use, but I would have never figured had I not taken the time to try it out. I would be great if there was a welcome way to post screenshots of apps for others to see to save time...

In general, this should be avoided. As tomk says, screenshots and detailed information can be found upstream. Applications listed here, for example, all provide links to the project website. I would not only be concerned about link rot, as jasonwryan says, but also maintenance: any screenshots you post today are likely to be outdated within a year or two. ArchWiki should contain only Arch-specific information.

  • [SOLVED] How to install AUR packages with patchname.patch

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to install lottanzb from the AUR and there's are a dependency called par2cmdline 0.4-13 that has a lot of nameofpatch.patch that are included in the AUR par2cmdline 0.4-13 package page that just open up to a url that shows code.
    I created patch files from the code displayed in the url with a text editor and added them to the extracted LOTTANZB folder in my build directory but when I go to build the package with PKGBUILD it runs through a check sum while building and the checks don't match.
    I'm obviously doing something fundamentally wrong here. Can someone direct me?
    Thanks,

    Hi, thanks for reply.
    Sorry, my mistake.
    I did place patch files inside the par2cmdline-0.4 folder. The only reason I created the .patch files and placed them inside par2cmdline-0.4 folder was because the PKGBUILD as well as the other 5 .patch files didn't exist inside the extracted build folder. They only place I could find them was in AUR par2cmdline-0.4 displayed as a url.
    When I copied and created the PKGBUILD as it did not exist inside the extracted folder par2cmdline-0.4 folder I received the following error:-
    Error autoconf.patch was not found in the build directory and is not a url. That along with 4 others do not exist in the build directory.

  • [SOLVED]How to install packages with the -U option? PGP error.

    I have to downgrade some packages (linux package due to ath5k problem), but pacman won't allow me because of the signatures.
    I downloaded the packages i need from here http://schlunix.org/archlinux/.
    These packages are safe to install? How can i bypass the signature check, if these packages are safe to install?
    Thanks.
    Last edited by Hyugga (2012-04-19 19:46:23)

    If you have a pgp key, you can sign the packages with your own key. You can do this by editing /etc/makepkg.conf, adding your key to the  GPGKEY="" section and enabling the sign option in the BUILDENV section. When building the package, it'll then be signed with your personal key. Afterwards import your key in pacman (pacman-key -r <yourkey>), assign the proper trust level and you're good to go.
    A workaround is to temporarily set "SigLevel = Never" in your /etc/pacman.conf (and hence disabling keysigning).
    EDIT: I just bothered to actually check your link and you'll be installing prebuilt binaries, so my first explanation doesn't apply there (you won't be building anything). So just setting SigLevel to Optional or Never (temporarily) should do.

  • I can't install Photoshop Elements 9 that was packaged with my Bamboo tablet

    I bought a Bamboo Create tablet in October, but I recently migrated my pc from XP to Windows 8, so I have to re-install all my programs. Elements 9 was packaged with the product alongside three other softwares that I installed successfully, but this one resisted two installations. I would like to know how to solve that problem or if there is an alternative way to get the software, like a download or something (I have the product key on hand).
    Thanks in advance for the answer.

    use compatibility mode (win xp should work) to install pse 9 on win 8.

  • Replacing a package with a self-build package

    If I have a self-build package that provides something (another package) that I allready have installed and also conflicts with, how do I replace the installed package with the self-build?
    When I try to install it with
    pacman -A /path/to/package
    pacman first tells me that my self-build package conflicts with the installed and whether I want to remove it. If I tell him that he should remove the installed package I get a list of dependencies that would get broke and the installation aborts.
    Any hints on how to solve that problem?

    Use -U (upgrade) switch if updating the package with the same name.
    Use -Rd (remove without dependencies) to uninstall a package and then install the one that provides the same.

  • Error with Project Parameters when executing the package with dtexec command

    Hi,
    We have started migrating our SSIS package from 2005 version to SSIS 2012. In SSIS 2005 we were using XML configuration files and executing the packages with dtexec command from the packages folder (without deploying packages to filesystem).
    Now in SSIS 2012, we have seen Project Parameters and created couple of package parameters and used those parameters in the package. when executing this package from solution explorer it was working fine but when i try to execute the same package from command
    line with Dtexec command, it was showing an error message of 'Not able to map Project Prameters to configurations'.
    Could you please give me an idea of how to execute the packages from command line by using dtexex command. basically i would like use project parameters in 2012 similar to configurations?
    Thanks,
    Venu.

    Refer
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-IN/library/hh231187.aspx
    you can pass parameter like this
    /SET \Package.Variables[$Package::ParameterName];<value> /SET \Package.Variables[$Project::ParameterName];<value>

    I was more interested in writing a script in PowerShell to automatically deny Itanium server updates.
    Would you happen to know a good article on this?
    I believe this topic has been discussed in this forum, so I'd start by searching the forum.
    Beyond that, your best friend in PowerShell script efforts is going to be CodePlex. There may be one posted there, already written.
    As a technical reference, you'll need to be familiar with the WSUS API, and the
    Software Development Kit is available on MSDN.
    You can definitely do this with PowerShell. (I actually do it with a feature of SolarWinds Patch Manager which does it via an API call.)

  • [solved] mutt with tiling window managers = bad = how to improve?

    Hi guys
    I want to use mutt as my mail client. I've tested several others, but none fits me better. It has to be a cli application, because that's just the way I want it to be.
    The only thing I don't like about mutt is its inability to handle resizing terminals. This is something which happens all the time with tiling window managers. Let me demonstrate with screenshots.
    mutt as it's supposed to look http://www.unstucc.de/myspace/mutt-normal.png
    mutt how it looks after the screen got resized. http://www.unstucc.de/myspace/mutt-resized.png
    Hitting Ctrl+l rerenders mutt's interface, but this is really going on my nerves.
    I run mutt in urxvt, but I also tested it with xterm, comparable result (it's a little bit better in xterm, but still not perfect)
    I've been searching for this for quite a while now and I can't find ideas how to solve this.
    Any help is very appreciated.

    Simple packages concerned : ghc / haskell* / xmonad
    Errors are :

    ==> Done.

    All haskell* packages with same errors as above.
    And for xmonad :

    Solution that worked for me :
    Uninstall all packages depending on ghc  (but not ghc):
    pacman -R haskell-data-default haskell-data-default-class haskell-data-default-instances-base haskell-data-default-instances-containers haskell-data-default-instances-dlist haskell-data-default-instances-old-locale haskell-dlist haskell-extensible-exceptions haskell-mtl haskell-old-locale haskell-old-time haskell-random haskell-utf8-string haskell-x11 haskell-x11-xft xmonad xmonad-contrib
    Re-installation of ghc :
    pacman -S ghc
    Installation of all packages :
    pacman -S haskell-data-default haskell-data-default-class haskell-data-default-instances-base haskell-data-default-instances-containers haskell-data-default-instances-dlist haskell-data-default-instances-old-locale haskell-dlist haskell-extensible-exceptions haskell-mtl haskell-old-locale haskell-old-time haskell-random haskell-utf8-string haskell-x11 haskell-x11-xft xmonad xmonad-contrib
    This time without any errors.
    Inspired by this topic explaining that all packages should be upgraded together.
    Maybe there is an easier solution, but I give my contribution .

    Yeah, just after those messages and without rebooting, I did an :
    xmonad --recompile
    And errors occurs (module not found for example).
    All xmonad packages depending on ghc were encountering the error : "command not executed" juste after the "cannot find package" while updating those packages.
    You're right, I tried to just launch again an installation (with pacman -S) of those packages but got same "warning" and error. Then I uninstalled and installed it like I said to not get any errors nor warnings.

    Thank you falconindy. I upgrade with --force because I search in Google the problem show "filesystem" when I tried install and I read that solution is upgrade "filesystem" with --foce.
    I tried to reinstall util-linux and now works. Thank you!

  • [solved] problem with zsh and makepkg

    I've had this problem for quite a while, but now finally it really starts pissing me off
    When I want to build a package with makepkg and the PKGBUILD has versioned dependencies, makepkg isn't able to resolve the dependencies.
    An example to demonstrate what this looks like
    PKGBUILD:
    # Maintainer: Army <[email protected]>
    pkgname=ardour3-svn
    _realname=ardour3
    pkgver=7501
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="A multichannel hard disk recorder and digital audio workstation"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url="http://www.ardour.org"
    license=('GPL')
    depends=("util-linux-ng" "liblrdf>=0.4.0" "liblo" "libgnomecanvasmm>=2.12.0" "slv2>=0.6.4" "aubio")
    makedepends=("boost>=1.39" "cppunit>=1.12.0" "soundtouch" "libvorbis>=1.1.2" "flac>=1.2.1" "python>=2.3" "jack-audio-connection-kit-svn")
    source=(${pkgname}.desktop)
    _svntrunk=http://subversion.ardour.org/svn/ardour2/branches/3.0
    _svnmod=${_realname}
    build() {
    cd ${srcdir}
    rm -rf ${_svnmod}-build
    svn co ${_svntrunk} ${_svnmod}
    cp -rf ${_svnmod} ${_svnmod}-build
    cd ${_svnmod}-build
    ./waf configure --prefix=/usr --configdir=/etc --tranzport --freesound --freedesktop --lv2 -p
    ./waf build
    DESTDIR="${pkgdir}" ./waf install
    # install some freedesktop.org compatibility
    install -Dm644 "${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop" "${pkgdir}/usr/share/applications/${_realname}.desktop"
    md5sums=('2736c648e452ae45c703e48cf64f75e7')
    and this is the output:
    % makepkg -sir
    ==> Bestimme letzte SVN-Revision...
    -> Gefundene Version: 7501
    ==> Erstelle Paket: ardour3-svn 7501-1 (Di 27. Jul 00:44:01 CEST 2010)
    ==> Prüfe Laufzeit-Abhängigkeiten...
    ==> Prüfe Buildtime-Abhängigkeiten...
    ==> Installiere fehlende Abhängigkeiten...
    Passwort:
    zsh:1: 1.39 not found
    ==> Fehlende Abhängigkeiten:
    -> boost>=1.39
    -> cppunit>=1.12.0
    Seems like it changes
    makedepends=("boost>=1.39" "cppunit>=1.12.0" ...)
    to
    makedepends=("boost" "1.39" "cppunit" "1.12.0" ...)
    It doesn't matter if I put the dependencies into " or ' nothing, it's always the same output. I already created a new user to verify the situation, same problem there. With bash as shell all runs fine.
    I use grml-zsh-config from [extra], but that cannot be the trouble maker, I tested it with an uninstalled grml-zsh-config and a blank ~/.zshrc, still the same.
    How do you zsh users do this??
    Thanks for any idea!

    Oh boy, sorry for these many posts, but without my sudo replacement package things are even worse!
    % bash -c "export SHELL=/bin/bash && makepkg -sir"
    ==> WARNING: Sudo can not be found. Will use su to acquire root privileges.

    This command works with nosudo installed ... I get the same errors when I do
    % bash --login
    $ echo $SHELL
    /bin/zsh
    $ export SHELL=/bin/bash
    $ echo $SHELL
    /bin/bash
    $ export LANG=C
    $ makepkg -sir

    Am I just still too much of a noob to see the obvious mistake I make or is makepkg really screwed up? Because in case I don't do anything wrong, I'll file a bug report asap!
