[SOLVED] Pacman, Can't ignore group KDE

Solution, ignoring groups/packages need to be space separated, not by comma.
Hello,
I'm trying to upgrade, skipping some groups (packages), but it doesn't seem to work.
In pacman.conf I have:
# Pacman won't upgrade packages listed in IgnorePkg and members of IgnoreGroup
#IgnorePkg =
IgnoreGroup =kde,kdebase,kdeutils,libreoffice,qt,kdeplasma
NoUpgrade =kde,libreoffice,qt,kdeplasma
#NoExtract =

Thanks in advance.
Cheers!
Note: I know that not upgrading these might cause problems, but since I don't use them that much atm, it does not matter.

The packages need to be space separated, not comma separated. Also, I think there should be a space next to the "=" too.
And, NoUpgrade is used to prevent files from being overwritten, not preventing package upgrades.

  • [solved] pacman can't acces repositories, but my web browser does

    Hi,
there is a strange problem. Today I tried a pacman -Syu to update, but pacman can't acces my repositories. Gives me errors of
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db' from mirror.archlinux.ro : No address record
I tried different mirrors, change the protocol from ftp to http, but without result. The strange think is that I can access those repositories with my web browser, so I think that it is pacman or python problem.

but it is really strange that when i uncommented "http://ftp.archlinux.org..."  in mirrorlist it is the same error
so what destination for all that mirrors are?
and when I download package from web-interface http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/openbox/ it successfuly downloaded from mirrors.kernel.org but pacman can't...
I'm completely dumb, or the universe had hell changed
As you see, my english is stupid.

  • Pacman can't find groups

An example I added the compiz fusion git repo and there is a group called compiz-fusion-git:
    [root /home/jordz]# pacman -S compiz-fusion-git
:: group compiz-fusion-git (including ignored packages):
        ccsm-git  compiz-bcop-git  compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-git
        compiz-fusion-plugins-main-git  compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported-git
        compiz-git  compizconfig-backend-gconf-git  compizconfig-python-git
        emerald-git  emerald-themes-git  fusion-icon-git  libcompizconfig-git
    :: Install whole content? [Y/n]
But when I -Ss / search for it it doesn't show it as a result.
This happens with all groups. I'm just wonder is this on purpose or a bug?
    thanks

The groups are not searched, it's neither a bug, nor strongly on purpose (at least not in my knowledge).
But when you search for a package, the groups it belongs to are printed. For example :
    > pacman -Ss compiz
    community/ccsm 0.6.0-2 (compiz-fusion)
        Compizconfig Settings Manager in Python
[lol, and while I am writing this, I just noticed something that is a bug in my opinion. Only the first group is printed.
Most of the times, there is just one group. But in the above example, ccsm belongs to 3 groups.]
And you can also list all groups with pacman -Sg
Then you can list the contents of a group with pacman -Sg group
    Is that enough, or not?

  • [Solved]Pacman can't find steam(and yes I read the other topics)

To make it short, pacman really can't find steam.
    Options I tried:
    pacman -S steam
    pacman -Sy steam
    pacman -Syyu steam
    pacman -Ss steam
    And still got nothing.
Here's my last attempt at it:
    $ sudo pacman -Syyu steam

Notes: I'm running arch on a VBox. Sorry if I sound cocky or anything but maybe it's my lack of sleep over this particular problem. Yes, I uncommented the multilib repo in pacman.conf.
    Anyone got any ideas?

  • [SOLVED] pacman fails on a package that should've been ignored anyway

    Hi all,
I don't understand why the below upgrade isn't working.  I exclude the kernel from my normal upgrade command as it prevents me from loading any modules until I reboot, so I typically only upgrade the kernel when I'm about to reboot.
In this case failure to upgrade the kernel is preventing the nVidia driver from being updated also, which is fine, but I don't understand why it then says it can't install 'nvidia' because 'nvidia-utils' is the wrong version - I thought 'nvidia' was going to be skipped?  Why is it trying to install it anyway?
Is there a way to get around this without having to manually exclude all these packages?

Ohhh, so you're saying it ignored nvidia, but tried to upgrade nvidia-utils.  nvidia-utils requires nvidia, but nvidia needs a specific version of nvidia-utils which would be broken by upgrading nvidia-utils, so it refuses to upgrade nvidia-utils because of the existing dependency.  Right.
So then the second part of my question - how can I get around this without adding nvidia-utils as an IgnorePkg?  Can I tell pacman to just ignore it if the deps couldn't be satisfied and keep going with whatever's left?

  • Single source can transmit multiple group in multicast

single source can transmit multiple group in a multicast domain

I am not sure how to start explaining this, but I will give it a try to my understanding.
    1)
Look up the MAC Learning section in this link.
    http://www.ciscopress.com/articles/article.asp?p=101367&rl=1
    2)
Once you have read through then your question would be if switches deliver traffic based on mac address of the end hosts, how is this mapping achieved for multicast addresses, as they are not assigned to any host.
in this case the switch will consider the multicast packet as unknown as will broadcast it. To avoid that a simple mechanism of multicast
IP to mac conversion was introduced which would create these temporary mac's based on the membership report of end hosts
for a certain group. So when this conversion is done apart from the real host mac address pointing to the port where it is connected,
multicast mac also points to the same port. Based on which the switch is able to forward the traffic intelligently to a set of hosts
    who want that group received.
    3)
Now see this link which explains how Mcast IP to MAC convesion is done.
    IP to MAC Conversion
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/cisintwk/ito_doc/ipmulti.htm#wp1020628
To summarize this, since only 23 bits are available for converting the IP to MAC, the 24th bit is lost .
which in terms of binary to decimal means you have lost 128 from the decimal. so it loops from the start of the multicast range of 224-239 at every 128 bits.
if the starting decimal was 224.1.1.1(if the received membership report was for 224.1.1.1) then next would be 224.129.1.1, 225.1.1.1 , 225.129.1.1 and so on till 239.......
hence when it loops through all the 224 - 239 addres range and it catches up 32 mapped addresses.
    Now to conclude,
"32 IP multicast addresses corresponding to each MAC " In here the MAC referenced is not the host mac but the converted MAC.
Even though the conversion is done, because of the available bits the MAC address hence created overlaps 32 multicast IP
addresses. (closest resemblence would be the ACL example with the mask assigned. based on this mask and the starting value
it will keep catching values based on the mask. )
You can try this practically. Assume you have a host and it sends a membership report for 225.10.10.10. Now the switch has to convert this to Mcast MAC.
To do this yourself, write down the binary of this address, and look at the rightmost 23 bits (that is from the left ignore the first 9 binary values.) now if you look at the remaining binary values, these will map and look alike for 226.10.10.10 226.139.10.10 and so on. And hence if you run through from 224-239 you will get 32 adresses.
    HTH-Cheers,
    Swaroop

This would be an SMS group similar to an email listserv but running on the SMS network
I have seen private individuals offering this service
It seems strange to me that no internet site like Apple, Yahoo or Google offers this as a free service much as the email group services are free services.

I think the app GroupMe might do what you want. You might also try contacting your carrier. My carrier offered some fancy group texting service for a while but they never really advertised it so, unless you asked, you never would have known. But, GroupMe is available in the app store. There are lots of other apps that also do group texting but it seems to be the one that gets recommended the most.

  • IPhone 5c - can't receive group messages after updating to IOS 8.0.2

I have an IPhone 5c and I updated to the IOS 8.0.2 yesterday afternoon and now I can't receive group messages. I have rebooted my phone and reset my network settings along with turning IMessage off & on, turning group messaging off & on.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Ok.  Just got off the phone with Applecare.  We finally figured out what my problem was.  Before iCloud, I had a .mac account.  So, my phone had two email accounts, 1. iCloud 2. mac.com accounts.  Applecare had me delete completely both accounts from my phone, leaving no mail accounts at all.  Then I added a new iCloud account.  Put in my email address and password, then everything worked from there.  Sounds simple.  Good luck to the rest of you.  Hope it's the same fix.  And a big "thank you" to Xavier at Applecare.
