[SOLVED] Pacman error when installing Arch from installation cd

Hey I''ve been checking the wiki, forum and even google and I've found some responses but they don't seem to apply to my problem and I just need a little help.
I'm at the 4th step "Select Packages" and when I select it I get "Pacman preparation failed! Check /dev/tty7 for errors"
the error on tty7 is "pacman: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libalpm.so.4: cannot read file data: Input/output error"
I apologize if this is an easy fix but its been almost a year since I've used arch and I'm a bit spoiled with ubuntu.
****The cd was outdated. Burning a new copy fixed it*****

I'm afraid it might be too old. I'm going to try to burn a new copy tomorrow when I can borrow a friends computer. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something real simple before I gave up.

[SOLVED] mkdir: missing operand error when installing Arch

I am on my first attempt of installing Arch Linux and when i type the command /arch/setup i get the following error

/usr/lib/libui.sh: line 120: /usr/bin/dirname: Input/output error
mkdir: missing operand
Try 'mkdir --help' for more information.
ERROR: Cannot create log directory
I am attempting to install from an ISO cd i burned.
I am extremely new to this and searched the Installation section of the forum with no luck. Thanks for any help.

I am using the 2010.05-core image. I tried installing on a different machine and it worked. I swapped the harddrive and it worked this time, but i received the following error before the arch boot screen came up.
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 82944
I must have missed this error the first time by not paying attention, because the process continues after repeating the error a few times.

I get this error when trying to chroot into my system from a kubuntu live cd.

I followed the wiki at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _Interface and typed the following commands in the terminal. so i could try to install kde and configure my wireless connection
here are the exact commands i entered to chroot into the system
sudo mkdir /mnt/arch
sudo mount -t jfs /dev/sdb3 /mnt/arch
sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/arch/etc/
sudo mount -t proc none /mnt/arch/proc
sudo mount -o bind /dev /mnt/arch/dev
sudo chroot /mnt/arch /bin/bash
source /etc/profile
In the Newbie forum http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=35158 another user mentioned solving this error by adding the folowing lines to /etc/mtab:
/dev/sda5 / ext3 rw 0 0
can someone explain how exactly i would go about doing this for my system
as far as i can tell i would add /dev/sdb3 / jfs rw 0 0 but i dont know what rw 0 0 refers to and whether or not to change that. and i dont know where exactly to add these lines.
Any help or guidance is appreciated.

rw tells mount to mount the filesystem read-write, the first 0 is the dump value (when dump if installed should make a backup), en the second 0 is the pass value, in which order the filesystems should be checked at boot. For more information on fstab you should read the wiki entry: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fstab
Note that mtab works more or less (though not exactly) as fstab (mtab has only ro and rw options AFAIK, and dump and pass values are not passed to mtab as it is a dynamic file and is empty when rebooting). Mtab keeps dynamically the filesystems that are mounted. So adding
/dev/sdb3 / jfs rw 0 0
to mtab, lets your system think that /dev/sdb3 is mounted read-write on / (which in your case is true )

Error when installing twitter from ICU

Hi All
I am having this annoying problem when installing the twitter app from the iPhone Configuration utility which is used by Enterprise.
This problem also occurred when I tried to install the twitter app onto iPhone 4S.
Therefore I have the latest iTunes, lates iPhone configuration utility, the latest IOS 6.1 on my iPhone 5 devices and when I try to install the twitter app I get the following error from the ICU:
The windows is tiitles INSTALL APP
The error: Could not install application on device. a signed resource has been added, modified, or deleted.
The only way to install this app is to go in to setting and install it from withing the iPhone 5.
I am guessing that the twitter app tha I downloaded clashed with the built in one, maybe.
If there is an update to twitter I cannot install it.
Come on APpple please fix this!
Anyone had similar issue?

I would suggest you try and update to the latest Ovi Store, now called Nokia Store.
With your phone's browser go to the following address:
http://lr.ovi.mobi/store/new-symbian-3
you should then get the option to install the latest Nokia Store client, and this should include new QT files. Corrupt QT files are usually the problem when installations from the Nokia/Ovi Store fails.

Errors when installing ODTwithODAC10202, but installation succeeded

When installing ODTwithODAC10202 I received the errors that Visual Studio 2003 that access was denied to "Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Vb7\VBProjects\OracleProjectVB.oraproj" and "Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\VC#\CSharpProjects\OracleProject.oraproj" for some reason. I can access both these files on my machine so, despite the Java trace in the log file, I have no idea why these files could not be accessed by the install.
I also received the error "The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL" at one point.
Nonetheless the process completed successfully.
Do either of these errors affect anything in the installation ?

I had a second problem after installing ODT. I got the error message:
Package 'Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio .NET' has failed to load properly ( GUID = {D601BB95-E404-4A8E-9F24-5C1A462426CE} )
while i'm opened the oracle explorer. To solve this problem, i do this:
gacutil /i <Oracle Home>\odp.net\bin\2.x\Oracle.DataAccess.dll
After this i can open the oracle explorer without any error. Solved this both problems, or should i do that you write to me (deinstall Java Sun, install ODT, install Java Sun)...

I have trouble installing apps from OVI recently. I pretty often get ``Installation error``. Ive installed the software update today Its still the same.
Any segestions ???

We installed 0vendor 4 years ago, but never use it. Now I have a requirement to bring vendor master data from FICO.
In the custom active A version 0vendor, the 0bpartner is a navigation attribute. In 0bpartner, 0legalform is display attribute. But when I try to install 0vendor, it failed complaining about the 0legalform is a navigation attribute in the 0bpartner infoobject. The error message are
"Char. 0LEGALFORM is exclusively an attribute (cannot be a navigation attribute)".
Could anyone point to me what is wrong? how should I fix it? We are on 2004S.

Try to install 0vendor with Match or Copy and install check.
It will compare with exisiting active version and will ask for overwrite.
By selecting 'No' to overwrite, you can install 0vendor by retaining existing settings ( display/nav settings ).

[SOLVED] pacman hanged when install or remove packages

when I use pacman -S , it only shows "resolving dependencies...". If I use pacman -R , it hangs at "checking dependencies..."
I have tried to overwrit the programme with extracted the package manually, it didn't help me.How can I resolve the problem

I keep getting an windows installation error when installing icloud for windows 7. I have tried installing manually without success.

There is a very long way which is removing anything related to Apple including stuff in the registry.
The short way is as follows. It worked for me.
I have seen that in the forum EXCEPT the registry trick which is missing and does the different.
1. Remove the Apple account from Outlook. In my case a me.com account.
2. Disconnect the connection to ICloud in the control panel of version 3.1.
REBOOT and open Outlook to see that all traces of the email account and of ICloud are gone.
3. Uninstall ICloud 3.1. I used REVO Uninstaller in Safe way mode. It removed some stuff in the registry from what I see; but not sure.
4. Delete as much stuff as possible in the C \Program Files (x86) \Common Files \ Apple
and C\Program Files\Common Files \Apple. My computer is 64 bits.
5. Go to the registry by typing regedit.exe or simply type regedit in the Start Box. Search for ICloud. I deleted TWO entries related to ICloud. Otherwise, you will still see the ICloud control panel despite the fact that you removed 3.1.
6. then I was able to install ICloud 4 immediately. Upon restarting it asked me my email and password and added itseft to Outlook like it was before. Be aware that you address book in Outlook could be deleted, so do an export before.

The 2330 error often means some sort of damage to the filing system as might happen if the battery fell out while the disk was in use.
Try running a disk check to see if it finds and fixes any errors.
