[SOLVED] Pacman GPGME error: No data

I recently bought a new computer and, of course, wanted to get away from windows 8 asap. I've installed arch several times before, and this time, from the outset, I've been plagued with GPGME errors. First was during the installation when I tried to install the base system with pacstrap. I solved that using the method here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=142798 (essentially delete /var/lib/pacman/sync and then run pacman -Syyu). From there on out, the install proceeded happily. After booting into my system, I attempted to begin downloading and installing things such as openssh, gparted, virt-manager...etc. Now I get the same error that I had before.
pacman -Syyu

error: GPGME error: No data
error: failed to update core (invalid or corrupted database (PGP signature))
error: failed to synchronuze any databases
error: failed to init transaction (invalid or corrupted database (PGP signature))
As soon as this happened, I attempted to re initialize pacman and the keys with
pacman-key --init && pacman-key --populate archlinux
This ran properly, but I was still unable to sync or update pacman. I then tried deleting /var/lib/pacman/sync and updating with the same result.
Next, I tried commenting out the mirrors, as that was mentioned in several posts while perusing the wiki. This still did not work. The next ting I tried was setting the SigLevel in the pacman.conf to Never, which brought about a whole host of different errors when trying to update (Unrecognized archive format error).
After reinitializing the keys again, deleting the /var/lib/pacman/sync folder and attempting another (unsuccessful) pacman -Syyu, and running pacman-key --refresh-keys, I set the SigLevel back to it's default, and decided it might be time to post asking for help. Does anyone have any other ideas that I could try? I've been working on this unsuccessfully for a few hours now, and I'd like to see it up and running.
Thank you all in advance!
Searching the archwiki, I tried these threads for additional help:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 2#p1111872 -- had a problem in pacman conf I do not
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=169225 --commenting out mirrors did not work
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=135310 --- did not help with archive errors
..... and many many more that were totally unrelated despite similar titles to mine

I shutdown my computer, moved to a different network area, and it is now running happily. I have no idea why... perhaps firewall controls? Whatever the reason was, this is no longer happening. Marking as solved.

  • [SOLVED] Pacman Dependency error with nouveau-dri and libgl

    I am upgrading my system with
    sudo pacman -Syu
    The out put is as follows:
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    testing is up to date
    core is up to date
    extra is up to date
    community is up to date
    :: Starting full system upgrade...
    resolving dependencies...
    looking for inter-conflicts...
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: nouveau-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
    It seems that the newest libgl is 7.10.2-1, while the newest nouveau-dri(7.10.1-2) requires 7.10.1-1. An upgrade operation will upgrade the libgl from 7.10.1-1 to 7.10.2-1, which result in a conflict with nouveau-dri.
    Is there any workaround? Do I have to wait for the nouveau-dri update?
    THANKS!

    Thanks @ngoonee !
    It turns out that this is because the mirror (mirrors.163.com/archlinux) I am using is broken. It is holding <libgl 7.10.2-1> without <nouveau-dri 7.10.1-2> and simultaneously. I changed to http://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/ and the problem solves.
    You're welcome. The mirror is/was probably just affected by a partial sync (the letter l is earlier than n ).
    Yeah, that's a quite reasonable explaination :-)

  • [SOLVED] PACMAN sig errors

    Hi,
    So i have this problem which started about a week ago, i reckon around the time of that pacman update. Anyway i'm getting signing erros on package installs and  a sudo pacman-key --init
    sudo pacman-key --populate archlinux with and without sudo pacman -Syy fixes it....till i reboot then it errors up again. I've removed the /etc/pacman.d/gnupg folder etc reinstalled archlinux-keyring, pacman without a fix. Sorry my first post here is a beg for ideas to help but i'm more of a lurker then poster.
    If anyone needs more info i am happy to provide as i really would love to solve this. Long live arch linux
    cheers
    Al
    edit:
    Should add the keys show up with pacman-key -l or -f etc after reboot but doesn't stop me from errors. so the keyring is still there but not searched?   but if i do a pacman-key --refresh-keys then it will find new keys but this will not fix the errors and allow package install.   needs the --init  then populate to allow install.
    hope i'm clear enough

    Allan it appears to be correct, and i disabled the ntpd check/set i had autostarting and that made no difference. Thanks for your efforts in helping troubleshoot this.
    not sure this helps but if I logout my openbox session  (--exit) then logon again the keyring is still working fine.

  • [SOLVED] pacman download errors

    the 2008.03-1.archboot.ftp.iso is the only iso that worked for me. after the install, i logged in using root. I ran pacman -S xorg but got an error. I checked the mirrorlist file and everything was uncommented. I ran pacman -Syy and got many errors. failed to synchronize any database. I did nano pacman.conf and in there was no ftp sites. i put Architecture = auto at the bottom of pacman.conf file and got an error.
    your help is greatly appreciated.

    Anyone else, looking at this, look at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1086153 which suggests the above method could break pacman (but I don't understand why yet).

    Wait until your server upload the recent Arch Linux updates. Than you will be able to upgrade it. Or do like i had: download open-bm-tools from Arch Linux official site  and install it and then issue "pacman -Syu".

  • [solved] pacman update error

    A few days ago I attempted to update my system, and am consistently getting this error:
    $ sudo pacman -Su
    :: Starting full system upgrade...

    error: failed to prepare transaction (package filename is not valid)
    The problem is that this is all it gives me; even a pacman -Svu gives no more information than this.  How can I identify the package that's causing the fault short of testing each installed package individually?

    A pacman -Syy seems to have done the trick, thank you!
    Not sure exactly what caused the problem, but I was able to get the system updated.  I'm always impressed with how quickly this community jumps in to help; thanks to all of you.  I even learned some new tricks through all of this.

  • GPGME error when updating package cache

    For some odd reason when I update my package cache (sorry if I'm using the wrong terminology; I'm new to Arch, came from Ubuntu) it throws the error:
    error: GPGME error: No data
    So now I can't install anything.
    Since I have a crappy internet connection, sometimes it would fail to connect to mirrors.aggregate.org, and it downloaded [core] just fine.

    Look into reflector and rankmirrors. They are great tools.
    I did change my mirrorlist file. I commented out the offending mirors and it worked fine.
    I'll look into those programs. Thanks.

  • GPGME error possibly related to libgcrypt update. Can't pacman :(

    I'm getting the GPGME error: Invalid crypto engine message.
    I just recently updated a pc that has limited diskspace (5G on / ) and has been dormant for 3 months.  Due to both of those factors, when I went to do an update of packages I had to do it piecemeal such that the download and extraction didn't fill up the / partition. I must have dorked up the system with the piecemeal upgrade because after updating libgcrypt in one of my updates I began to  get this error.
    To get around the problem I simply set SigLevel = Never in /etc/pacman.conf as suggested by other posts. I completed the upgrade and put back SigLevel to its previous status. However when I tried a simple litmus test I still see that there are GPGME errors.

    I've stumbled upon several posts dealing with this issue from about a year ago but none have helped me solve it.

    I'm too lazy to read your whole post, so have you tried booting to archiso and updating from the live system (not a chroot to the install) using the -r flag?
    PACMAN(8) wrote:OPTIONS
           -r, --root <path>
               Specify an alternative installation root (default is /). This should not
               be used as a way to install software into /usr/local instead of /usr.
               This option is used if you want to install a package on a temporarily
               mounted partition that is "owned" by another system.  NOTE: If database
               path or log file are not specified on either the command line or in
               pacman.conf(5), their default location will be inside this root path.
    In the future (once the installed system is working again) you could try specifying a different CacheDir if /var/cache/pacman/pkg is on the same fs as / .

  • [SOLVED] GPGME error after chrooting for new installs

    There is another thread about this topic, but it is marked as solved. But obviously this error is not solved because new installs are failing.
    The problem: after installing the base system with pacstrap and chrooting into the system, there are some very ugly errors when trying to install any additional packages.
    Pacman gives the following output:
    warning: GPGME error: Invalid crypto engine
    File XYZ is corrupted (invalid vor corrupted package (PGP signature)
    Do you want to delete it?
    Since i installed arch just a few days ago on the same system with different SSD, this error seems to come from the server side. But i am no expert at all, so i have no idea what's wrong.
    I tried to delete the etc/pacman.d/gnupg folder and running pacman-key --init, but this is not working.

    Update the system from the install disk with pacman --root <mountpoint> -Syu. The problem is that you installed at exactly the wrong time, when all of the packages that use gcrypt were updated but libgcrypt wasn't.

  • [SOLVED] Pacman "config file could not be read" error during Arch ins

    I've been attempting to get Arch setup for a while now, and after having some trouble with partitions, my wireless connecting, and setting up repos and mirrors, which the Wiki helped me solve, I've hit a bigger bump.  While updating the system using pacman as the Beginners Guide says to do, I get errors when I try to continue the update process as follows :
    btw: I'm typing this on a laptop next to my computer
    [root@McArch~]# pacman -Syu
    error: config file /etc/pacman.d/core could not be read
    error: config file /etc/pacman.d/extra could not be read
    error: config file /etc/pacman.d/community could not be read
    :: Synchronizing package databases . . .
    error: failed to updated core (unexpected error)
    error: failed to updated extra (unexpected error)
    error: failed to updated community (unexpected error)
    error: failed to synchronize any databases
    Any tips as to whats going on?  I've tried to created said files, and even insert mirrors into the file, like in the /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist file but this doesn't seem to help

    Glad you got it working.
    I'm not sure what happened in your install but I just finished using an old 2007.08 iso and pacman first starts out with /etc/pacman.d/core, etc/pacman.d/extra, /etc/pacman.d/community ... etc., but I never had your problem when I did the #pacman -Syu after initial install reboot.  The pacman update removes the above mentioned repos and replaces them with a single /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.  You must have messed up an initial config file somehow as I couldn't get the same errors you got.  It looks like you had your /etc/pacman.conf file messed up somehow and when you pointed it to the mirrorlist it could finally work properly.  I'll just include my /etc/pacman.conf file and /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist so you can compare.  NB*  these are from my x86_64 so for 32 bit machines i686 would replace x86_64 in the files.

    I tried to install a new system today. I chrooted into it and wanted to install some packages, but all I got was this error instead:

    I ran pacman-key --init and --populate, set SigLevel to Optional in pacman.conf, did pacman -Syu and all you want, still got the same error.
