[SOLVED] Pacman Upgrade Issue

Hello,
I upgraded Pacman to the latest version and I may have messed up the .pacnew files, not sure.  Anyhow here's the issue I'm currently facing:

pacman -Rd xulrunner and delete these files /usr/include/xulrunner-1.9  /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9 /usr/lib/xulrunner-devel-1.9 /usr/share/idl/xulrunner-1.9. Re-install xulrunner and your good to go. Alternatively force the upgrade with pacman -Syuf.

  • [solved]pacman upgrade issue using axel

    i changed the default downloading tool to axel, but ervery time before i run pacman -Syu, i need to rm /var/lib/pacman/sync/*.db. If I don't do this, axel can't overwrite the database automatically, which can result in the fail of pacman upgrade.
    what should i do so needn't i rm the db files before upgrade.

    Thanks Scimmia and tdy!
    I changed the mirror to Japan's ftp.jaist.ac.jp one but after that, running pacman -Syu said core up to date, community up to date, extra up to date.
    Then I did
    # mv /var/lib/pacman/sync /var/lib/pacman/sync.bak
    Afterwards pacman -Syu worked correctly and upgraded Intellij Idea to 12.0.2-1!!!
    Hopefully the second step I posted will help someone :-)

    Has anybody seen this or have any idea how to fix it?
    Should I just delete all these files?
    I was getting a gcc / gcc-libs error before but reinstalling gcc as per other forum help fixed that.

    @Gcool: I did a quick search and could not find anything that matched my symptoms. The only things I found that seemed to apply were the gcc / gcc-libs issue which I resolved and merging my pacman.conf.pacnew file into pacman.conf file (only two non-comments were new and they didn't seem related).
    Perhaps I can't assess the applicability of a post to my symptoms.
    @karol: I did -Syu, as I always do, but this time I got this:
    :: The following packages should be upgraded first :
    pacman
    :: Do you want to cancel the current operation
    :: and upgrade these packages now? [Y/n]
    I tried both 'Yes' and 'no' and both failed. 'No' took much longer because it had to download a couple hundred packages (I have been trying to resolve this myself for over a week and the list keeps getting longer) before failing so I switched to just pacman.
    Pacman was in the list of packages and I couldn't figure out how to exclude it to see if the others would update. Reinstalling gcc worked.
    [gordiegii@Ion-Arch man]$ stat -c %s $(find /var/lib/pacman/local -name "pacman-4*")/files
    0
    [gordiegii@Ion-Arch man]$
    Please pardon my newbieness, I came from Ubuntu when GnomeBloat became too much for my Intel ATOM and am still learning the Arch way.

  • [Solved] Leafnode upgrade issue

    The package leafnode recently updated and stopped working.
    The error message from fetchnews was:
    no such user: 9
    slrn also returned a similar error when connecting to localhost.  Port 119 was open, so there was no issue there.
    I could not find a fix, so downloaded leafnode from sourceforge, made it myself and it's now working.
    The following configuration of leafnode seemed to do the trick:
    $ ./configure --bindir=/usr/bin --sbindir=/usr/sbin
    $ make
    # make install
    Solved
    From Bug report https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/27242
    The error is telling you that the user with UID 9 doesn't exist. The problem is the install scriptlet only checks for (and if necessary, creates) this user on install but not upgrade.
    Install the package from community and run these commands as root:
    groupadd -g 13 -r news
    useradd -u 9 -r -m -g news news

    Ah, OK.

  • [SOLVED] Pacman Performance Issue

    Hey everybody:
    I have a weird performance problem with pacman.  When I tell it to download something, it works fine when it is finding the package, figuring out dependencies, and processing the command.
    Then, when it gets to downloading, it'll take a few to several minutes to start downloading a package, download it at a normal/acceptable speed, then take a few to several minutes to start downloading the next package.
    I'm not sure what's causing this problem but I could see this beeing a nuissance for upgrades and things like that.  Or right now, because it's a fresh install and I'm trying to install Gnome, lol.  This behavior is also experienced when I'm updating the mirrors (pacman -Syy).
    I'm going to let it run overnight where it'll probably be done by the time I get back to work in the morning, but this seems like there's something wrong because I just tried on my laptop (on the same LAN) and it works as fast as I'd ever seen it.  In the past, I've never done any optimization or mirror ranking and I haven't experienced this issue before.
    Thanks!

    Well, the install on the desktop was brand new, but they were both working from the same (default) mirror list.  I commented out the first few entries, as well as archlinux.org and a few others that seemed far away from their names, and tried it again.  Same issue.
    I thought it might be an issue with the DNS servers, so I tried pinging google, yahoo, and like xmission and a few others that it may not have cached and they all got resolved pretty quick.
    Seems very strange.  I remember yum being extremely slow, now that I think about it, but I used Fedora last about 3 years ago now (this was a different building and different internet plan at the time).  Apt seemed quick enough (since Fedora I have been dual-booting Windows and Debian).
    We have a fiber optic connection at work, not particularly fast at download but has good upload (more important for us), and we have a local DNS caching server.  It has caused some problems before, but it seems to have been behaving today (and for several months now).
    Thanks again, love the forums and I'm glad to be getting Debian off my work PC (strange as it is, I'm more comfortable with Arch now than I am with Debian).

  • Pacman upgrade issue

    I am looking to upgrade my home PC, even moving from 32 bit to 64.
    All is fine so far, I have a complete machine, I even know how to transfer users so that they don't know the harware has changed.
    Where I do have a bit of an issue is with installing all the same packages.
    I can generate a line seperated file of all the packages installes by using the following command:
    pacman -Q | cut -d ' ' -f 1 > packages.txt
    Now all I need to do if get the file accross to the new hardware and then get pacman to install all the packages in the file. The only problem is that pacman does not appear to want  to read a list from a file, which is a shame as that would really help here and also in automated installs.
    Any suggestions?

    ibendiben wrote:I would use pacman -Qe here, to exclude dependencies.
    Else all packages, including dependencies are going to be installed explicit.
    Pacman resolves the dependencies automatically.
    Are you sure? I believe the install reason (explicit vs dependency) is preserved on upgrade/reinstall.

  • [SOLVED] pacman -Syu issues for a newbie

    Hi all,
    After my very first installation of arch in my laptop, following the Beginners Guide, I tried to upgrade my system in order to continue installing wifi, gnome, etc...
    after a Pacman -syy, followed by pacman -Syu, I got the following output:

    after looking for something on the web, i found something like this in the URL  http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=56431 , but after deleting the /usr/lib/klibc/include/asm, I've got the same errors
    How can I continue installing arch?
    Thanks a lot,

  • [SOLVED] pacman upgrade won't work because of unresolved dependency

    Hey all,
    I tried a pacman -Syyu today and it found some things and said:
    :: The following packages should be upgraded first :
        pacman
    :: Do you want to cancel the current operation
    :: and upgrade these packages now? [Y/n] y
    resolving dependencies...
    looking for inter-conflicts...
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: gcc: requires gcc-libs=4.6.2-6
    I have gcc-libs=4.6.2-7 and I apparently need 4.6.2-6 but I can't change anything without pacman, and pacman won't change anything without updating itself first, and it can't because of this unmet dependency, so there's a stalemate.
    Any ideas what to do?

  • [SOLVED] Pacman upgrade failed because of gcc-libs

    I have the multilib version of gcc installed in my 64 bit system. Ten minutes ago I tried to upgrade with pacman -Syu and I got:
    :: I seguenti pacchetti dovrebbero essere aggiornati prima :
    pacman
    :: Vuoi annullare l'operazione corrente
    :: e aggiornare adesso questi pacchetti? [S/n]
    risoluzione delle dipendenze in corso...
    ricerca dei conflitti in corso...
    :: gcc-libs e gcc-libs-multilib vanno in conflitto. Vuoi rimuovere gcc-libs-multilib? [s/N] n
    errore: sono stati rilevati dei conflitti irrisolvibili
    errore: impossibile eseguire l'operazione richiesta (dipendenze in conflitto)
    :: gcc-libs e gcc-libs-multilib vanno in conflitto
    It is in italian, but basically it complains about a conflict between the installed gcc-libs-multilib and the needed gcc-libs. gcc-libs-multilib provides gcc-libs, so why this kind of error? I thought my mirror could be out of sync but I get the same error also using mirrors.kernel.org.
    Am I doing something wrong?

  • [SOLVED]pacman upgrade: error# failed to prepare transaction

    Whenever I am trying to install some packages using pacman, I get a message to upgrade pacman. When I say 'yes', I get an error message.
    ##code_begin##
    [root@arch matrix]# pacman -S libreoffice
    :: The following packages should be upgraded first :
        pacman
    :: Do you want to cancel the current operation
    :: and upgrade these packages now? [Y/n] y

    looking for inter-conflicts...
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: gcc: requires gcc-libs=4.7.0-3
    [root@arch matrix]#
    ##code_end##
    This started after adding a new mirror and performing "pacman -Syu" (I was trying to install firefox in arch, which didn't go through even with different mirrors).
    What should I do now to upgrade pacman?

    Anyone else, looking at this, look at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1086153 which suggests the above method could break pacman (but I don't understand why yet).

  • [solved]pacman -r issue

    Hi , I would try to install arch on a usb stick from my current desktop and I thought
    that a
    pacman -S base -r newarch --ignore kernel26
    could go , where newarch is my mounted usb stick, but this simply don't work.
    pacman returns 'base not found'.
    pacman -S base
    instead works as it should... what I'm doing wrong?
    Last edited by mangus (2009-03-03 21:21:08)

    You want to do:
    mkdir -p newarch/var/lib/pacman
    pacman -Sy base -r newarch
    Note that the "--ignore kernel26" part does not work as you are using "base" which is a group (known issue) But you can always remove it later.

  • Weird pacman upgrade issue

    Ok folks... plain and simple...got this error:

    It is worth mentioning that this is my second try doing the updates, the first was done when I was d/ling a bunch of other crap at the same time and literally saturating my line.  I'm thinking I have a corrupt download, but don't know how to clear it out.  I was thinking just delete libgpm.so.1 or renaming it but I wanted advice first, is this the right fix?
    Matt

    Yes, just delete /usr/lib/libgpm.so.1
