[Solved] Permission issues for automounted devices in Gnome 3

I am unable to write into any device after it has been automounted in Gnome 3. I get the following error:
There was an error copying the file into /run/media/dhaval/3C2E3A4E2E3A0206. Permission denied.
I set up Gnome 3 according to the instructions in the wiki. Searching through the forums did not lead to any results.
This happens with all external devices and also with my internal secondary hard drive.

  • Ios 6 orientation doesn't work and boot time increases. How to solve these issues for dummy? I don't understand code and strings suggested by others.

    I just upgraded from ios 5 to ios 6 on my ipad2. Now orientation doesn't work properly. Boot time increase, it takes longer time to boot. Is there any configuration to solve these issues? I can't understand the explanation with code and strings found on google to solve the orientation issue. Any easy configuration for dummy ?

    It supports well for ios 5. I couldn't remember (5.x.x) exactly but I always keeps update for ios5 and the abnormality starts when I upgraded to ios 6.

  • ITunes 11.1 - two user accounts - permission issues for content

    I downloaded iTunes 11.1 on my new iMac last night when it was released.
    I have two user accounts set up. 1 for my wife, and the other for me. We have a shared iTunes account that has all of our music that we purchased from apple. I did the same set up for the iPhoto library. The way I implemented it allows both my wife and I read/write access to our content.
    The issue:
    When I downloaded iTunes 11.1 I could not longer launch iTunes and it generated an error on Start up. The folder "iTunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions of this folder. The user priveleges were fine. No changes needed to be made there. After spending countless hours trying to figure it out, I went into my TimeMachine and restored to a backup from earlier in that day. I am now running iTunes 11.0.5 and I won't make the mistake again of upgrading to 11.1 until this is resolved.
    Be advised if you have multiple users all pointed to a shared directory that this issue may impact you as well.
    Resolution:
    If you want iOS7, then download it from your device itself. From your iPhone, iPad, etc etc, Go into Settings>General>Software Updates and download iOS7 from there. iTunes radio won't be available on my iMac, but so what, at least I can access my content now.

    Just ignore it.
    In most of those, it says "should be drwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x" - the important part, the actual "permissions" is everything except the initial "d" - and the only difference I see is the initial "d" is missing in the "they are" part.
    The "d" stands for "directory" which on a Mac we usually call a folder. For some reason, there's some confusion about whether these should be folders or not - but  the actual permissionss (read, write, or eXecute - the 'r" "w" and "x"s) are all correct.
    My guess is that Apple changed the way they create ".nib" files, and Disk Utility hasn't been updated yet to recognize the change. So the problem is in Disk Utility, not in iTunes.

  • Wifi Connection issues for all devices on BT infin...

    Hi All,
    I recently did a home move and moved my BT infinity from previous address (which worked fine and I had 2 drop outs both 2 minutes long over 3 months) but I have been "using" BT Infinity since Saturday morning and the issues will not stop.
    I connected laptops, iphones and consoles to the Wifi and at first i should have been getting 30MB but speed checkers came back with 20mb. Later on that day the connection dropped to less than 2mb on the playstation 3 and then around 5mb on iphones, i even sat right next to wireless router and was getting 15mb, half of what i should be getting.
    I enabled port forwarding for the playstation 3 which made no difference, i changed the channel from 1 to 11 and this made no difference, i then called BT helpline (who ran a line test and no issues were found) and connected my laptop via Ethernet cable, she remote assisted me and reset all of my router settings then ran a speed test, it came back 30mb??? then she asked i disconnect cable and try same test with wireless this came back at 33mb, so they said there was no issue.
    The second they got off the phone i did a speed check and it was showing half.(around 15mb)
    over the whole weekend connection has been dropping out or dropping so low that it really feels like im wasting money.
    I have not even dared to set up the BT Vision as the TV will just not be watchable.
    I am completely stuck on what to do and have really lost faith in BT, how can the connection jump around that much, each time i run a speed test i get different results, several times during the day the wifi just stops, have turned off router 3 times total which made no difference.
    is anyone else getting these sorts of issues? I thought AOL was bad but i went from no issues with a max 1.5mb speed to endless issues with a sporadic connection that goes from half a meg to 22meg (only ever got 30meg result while on the phone to BT which is suspicious)
    I know it could be teething issues but at my old address it worked straight away and as i said above was fine in terms of uptime.
    Any help would be great, would also love some steps on obtaining info the send to BT to prove there is an issue.
    Hope this does not sound like an angry rant but i wasted my whole weekend trying to sort this out (during best heatwave in uk for sometime :-( )
    Many thanks

    Just ran a speedtest using bt checker, results are not good....

  • How to solve the issue: "Failed to install NtCreateSection monitor" etc

    I am a user of VM VirtualBox Manager
    I have been searching for the solution for the above issue.
    But I got nothing until now 22nd August 2014.
    But after several trying several settings, I succeeded to start VM VirtualBox Manager without getting "Failed to install NtCreateSection monitor"
    So I just want to share with others, and perhaps what I did above can solve the issue for others with similar problems
    Here it is:
    1. Try to change the display resolution to AUTOMATIC
    2. and / or try to disable the extension packs
    As for me, I only did no.1 only.
    And also when I did that, I was still disabling my avast.
    (Here I'm trying to give a solution of an issue, without following other's thread.)
    Actually for me this was an idea, and thx to BluShadow, I know this thread belongs here as a discussion topic.

    I received the above msgs just now (2nd time after yesterday as 1st time), and I could get rid of the error msg by doing the above steps once again.
    The important thing is to change the display to another option.
    eg. if your current display is "Automatic" then change it to "Hint" etc
    if your current display is "Hint" then change it to "Automatic" etc, then you can start the virtual machine / HDD again.
    Hope I can help you guys with the same problem.
    Thx,

    Back up all data.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
    Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
    Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
    That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
    Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • [SOLVED]system fails to boot since adding udev rules for automounting

    Hello
    I have recently been trying to use udev rules to automount, and putting together stuff from the wiki, forums and general googling around have produced the following set of rules:
    # automounts usb hdd and pendrives as usbhd-sdx; no messing around with
    # volume labels or other confusing stuff
    # matches all sdx devices except the internal hdd, sda
    KERNEL=="sd[b-z]", NAME="%k", SYMLINK+="usbhd-%k", GROUP="users", OPTIONS="last_rule"
    # imports filesystem information
    ACTION=="add", IMPORT{program}="/sbin/blkid -o udev -p %N"
    # creates mount points and sets up symlinks
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", SYMLINK+="usbhd-%k", GROUP="users", NAME="%k"
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/mkdir -p /media/usbhd-%k"
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/ln -s /media/usbhd-%k /mnt/usbhd-%k"
    # global mount options
    ACTION=="add", ENV{mount_options}="relatime"
    # filesystem-specific mount options (777/666 dir/file perms for ntfs/vfat)
    ACTION=="add", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="vfat|ntfs", ENV{mount_options}="$env{mount_options},gid=100,dmask=000,fmask=111,utf8"
    # automount ntfs filesystem with ntfs-3g driver
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="ntfs", RUN+="/bin/mount -t ntfs-3g -o %E{mount_options} /dev/%k /media/usbhd-%k", OPTIONS="last_r$
    # automount all other file systems
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}!="ntfs", RUN+="/bin/mount -t auto -o %E{mount_options} /dev/%k /media/usbhd-%k", OPTIONS="last_rule"
    # unmounts and removes the mount points
    ACTION=="remove", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/rm -f /mnt/usbhd-%k"
    ACTION=="remove", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/umount -l /media/usbhd-%k"
    ACTION=="remove", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/rmdir /media/usbhd-%k", OPTIONS="last_rule"
    This seemed to be working very well unitl I tried to boot this morning and the boot process stopped at "processing UDev events" with the following message:
    iTCO_wdt: Unexpected close, not stopping watchdog!
    It pauses at this point for 10-15 seconds and then reboots.
    Having searched a bit, I found the following similar post on the forums:  http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=459375
    Which suggests that the problem might lie with this line:
    ACTION=="add", IMPORT{program}="/sbin/blkid -o udev -p %N"
    I have renamed the file so that it no longer has the udev .rules extension and now the system boots fine.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the above rules might be causing this behaviour and how I might go about fixing it?
    Thanks

    Hey falconindy
    That was the final kick up the logical a$$ that I needed to get some kind of grip on udev rules.  I now have a fully functional rule that applies only to /dev/sdxy and not to everything else as well, so no more boot trauma, THANK YOU.
    I will mark this thread as solved and post my new rule for the benefit of anyone who might read this.
    New rule (no boot problems):
    # automounts usb hdd and pendrives as label or as usbhd-sdxy if no label present
    # ensures the following is _only_ run for sdxy devices excluding internal hdd, sda
    KERNEL!="sd[b-z][0-9]", GOTO="personal_usb_automount_settings_end"
    # imports filesystem information
    # provides access to following variables:
    # ID_FS_UUID; ID_FS_UUID_ENC; ID_FS_VERSION; ID_FS_TYPE; ID_FS_VERSION; ID_FS_LABEL
    # accessible via ENV{variable}; $env{variable}|%E{variable}
    IMPORT{program}="/sbin/blkid -o udev -p %N"
    # Get a label if present, otherwise name usbhd-%k
    ENV{ID_FS_LABEL}!="", ENV{dir_name}="%E{ID_FS_LABEL}"
    ENV{ID_FS_LABEL}=="", ENV{dir_name}="usbhd-%k"
    # creates mount points and sets up symlinks

    System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
    The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
    Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
    Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
    For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • HT6437 My itunes cannot locate my ipod. All the sync option are grayed out and diagnostics says that itunes cannot find usb ports and that no device is connected when it is. What should I do to solve this issue?

    So itunes is giving me problems. Since around Christmas time, itunes decided to stop reading my ipod. I connect it to my computer with the usb cable and my computer will recognize that a device is connected but itunes will not. If I go to file->devices and try to sync, all of my sync options are grayed out, while before it would just automatically sync.
    When I run diagnostics it tells me that under ports that it cannot find usb ports (it has a green circle?), a type of cable isn't found, and that no device is connected with the usb cable (which my ipod is). I have been trying to fix this issue but nothing is working. I've tried restarting my ipod, itunes, and my computer, i've also tried resetting my ipod and uninstalling itunes then reinstalling itunes but nothing seems to be working.
    Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

    Do the USB ports work for other devices?
    Does the iPod charge?

    I am currently facing a following error message "Please note your starting disk is upcoming full"... It does appear I did a mistake, could someone help me by solving this issue?? Thks José

    No mistake, you simply have to delete some items from your MacBook Air.
    Start by emptying the Trash - obvious, but easily overlooked.
    Then determine what, if any, documents, photos, movies, etc. you can live without and either delete them or copy them to another device.

  • How do I solve the issue of this message "you do not have enough access privileges for this operation" on my iTunes?

    How do I solve the issue of this message "you do not have enough access privileges for this operation" on my iTunes? I already went to the folder of iTunes inside the Finder and change all permissions to allow read and write... no improvement at all. Any help? thanks!

    Hi! I just realized I have two folders called library, one is inside HD alongside with System and users, then I have also "library" inside users, some of the folders are apparently repeated, some are missing. And all the music is inside a folder called iTunes Music, inside Music, inside users. Now that I relaized some folders are repeated I applied to all related to iTumes r/w permission. But the annoying message keeps coming on.
    And yes, I am using Leopard, 10.5.8.
    Any ideas?
