[SOLVED] Plymouth won't work anymore

Hi, I don't know id this is the correct category but well, Here we go:
I'm having an issue with Plymouth since a couple of days: It does not work at all.
It does not show up neither at startup nor at shutdown, the only thing on screen is text detailing the startup or shutdown process. Even when I try to test it doing this:
plymouthd
plymouth --show-splash
Nothing happens.
This started to happen a couple days ago, after I reinstalled my kernel with the Arch iso because of this issue
I don't know how could this affect Plymouth, but now it doesn't work at all.
Heres my /etc/mkinitcpio.conf file

I obviusly tried to rebuild the initrd using
sudo mkinitcpio -p linux
To see if that could resolve my problem but it didn't.
I even downgraded to the previous kernel to see if it's was some kind of kernel-related issue but that didn't work too so I reinstalled the latest kernel 3.15.2-1-ARCH.
I've even tried reinstalling plymouth just to see it was useless because the issue is still there.
Any light on this will be well appreciated.

I did this as you can see on the first link in my first post, so I'm 99% sure this have something to do with the issue I'm having.
While the issue seems to be slightly different, the problem is the same: The splash screen does not show up.
I hope this help out troubleshooting the problem. I will search a bit more to see if there is something else I can try. I will also try again the fsck to see if this solves anything.
Well, doing the fsck again didn't changed anything at all. Anyone out there willing to help please?

Update 32bit - 64 bit and network won't work anymore

I update (means clean install) Vista Business 32 bit to 64 bit and after that the network connection
won't work anymore. Problem is that vista won't get the IP-address from DHCP (tried in small office network with some cheap Zyxel and big corporate network with expensive stuff) and said that the connection is limited and network is unidentified. I try to
solve this problem with google and already try some regedit things, update Vista with SP2, update network controller driver and
try to limit speed & duplex to 100 Mbps and 10 Mbps but non of those works. Checked
also with linux and the computer gets the IP which mean that the network adapter works and there have to be some problems with this Vista Business 64 bit.
Does someone have any clues what is the problem and how to fix it?

Im having some problems with my ctrl-buttons. They simply won't work anymore, they used to but slowly they became unstable and now they won't work at all.
So now I ask you if there is any way to solve this problem without sending the computer to repairs.

It is really strange issue with those CTRL buttons functionality. Googling around I found several forums where people report about this. Unfortunately nobody has explanation why this happen.
I use Vista and WXP SP3 on my Satellite Pro P300 and until now everything works properly.
I can just imagine some Microsoft update is responsible for this. Try to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore tool.
Please post results.
Lets see if someone else has other advice.

I've re-installed iTunes, the latest version for Tiger, I've reset and restored my iPod. The ipod shows up fine in the source banner and I can transfer files to it, however when I unplug the iPod the files are not there.

Maybe try to repair the iPod's HD using Disk Utility located in the Applications -> Utilities folder. If that doesn't help, try a low level reformat of the drive using the same application. Make sure you choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the file system format.

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

My USB external hard disk won't work anymore after I updated to 10.4.10

As I said in title since it's quite urgent to me. ALL of my files is in my external hard drive. It's format as FAT or FAT32 I can't remember since I use it between mac and PC. More than that IT IS WORKING FINE UNDER PC. Before updating to Mac 10.4.10 I used my hard disk fine till I updated to this version. I plug in my usb port and after a hours it still won't be detected. I can find my hard disk in finder or desktop. I have tried plug my hard disk to other MacBook or Mac Pro but still won't work anymore. However it's working fine under PC or when I started my MacBKPRO as WindowsXP under bootcamp, my hard disk is working fine, too.
I have search this forum and seems someone have got the same problem as I face. I don't know what to do...and I feel so disappointed to Mac.

As Mac OS X has no known viruses in the wild, that leaves you with one of three possibilities.
1. When connected to the Windows machine, a virus has written over a critical boot block area which allows the drive to become crossplatform. Get the latest Windows virus detection software and make sure the drive is clean of Windows viruses.
2. The firmware that allows it to communicate driverless has become corrupted on the drive case. Replacing the drive case itself will eliminate that problem, as suggested earlier.
3. The directory damage is just enough that the boot block itself is damaged. Backup any critical data from the drive onto the Windows machine first, and run Alsoft Disk Warrior 4.0 to repair the directory and see if that works.
The fact that Mac OS X 10.3.9 won't read it basically eliminates this as a 10.4.10 problem. Only a boot block or firmware issue like this could make a drive not readable on one platform, but readable on another.

There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's. Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

my hotmail account won't work anymore, it comes up but when I try to do an action (delete a message) it won't do anything, I've restarted the webpage and updated firefox but it keeps doing the same thing, this was not happening a few days ago

Well, Hotmail no longer works with Firefox on my desktop. Strangely enough when I use my iPad to access hotmail I have the same problem if I set the browser to emulate firefox. I have not tried the firefox app for mobile yet. When my iPad is set to appear as mobile (generic) then firefox works.
Others at work have all had the same problem (and with Chrome but that is not something I want to use anyway). Some have switched to Opera as a temp solution.
Two said whern they disabled silverlight, firefox worked fine. I tried that and it did not. (I have had problems with Silverlight with firefox 10 & 11) I have tried disabling all extensions and plugins and adding one back at a time and so far no luck. My Google account works OK. Any suggestions not only welcome but might be life-savers.

[SOLVED] Cantata won't work

Hi!
Whenever i start cantata (qt5 community build, version 1.4.0-1), i get an error :
errno: Failed to open database file "/tmp/cantata/mpd/tag_cache": No such file or directory
fatal_error: Couldn't stat parent directory of db file "/tmp/cantata/mpd/tag_cache": No such file or directory
It started only the very first timewithout problems, and i could listen to any song. But then, after a reboot, it didn't work anymore. The only way to get it working again is by touching that tag_cache file in /tmp/cantata/mpd/ (making the mpd dir first, as it doesn't exist in /tmp/cantata).
What can I do? I'm using cantata in single user mode (ie it starts mpd for me).

Solved...damn! I just had to edit .local/share/cantata/mpd/mpd.conf changing the paths /tmp/cantata/mpd/* to .config/cantata/mpd/* and touching those files.

Creative Suite won't work anymore!

Why won't my creative suite work anymore since I have upgraded my Mac system? I used it all the time. I cannot afford to buy more softward. I am a Senior and also a teacher. How can I use my Photoshop CS. It won't even open or give me a message.

You have not provided any relevant technical info. Beyond that Adobe can't fix what Apple don't provide - the last version of OSX providing PPC emulation stuff is officially 10.6.8 and an existing Rosetta install will be retained up to 10.7.5, but any version after that will not be able to support this workflow. [solved] acerhk - won't compile anymore.

On my 8y old Acer Travelmate i need acerhk to get wifi working.
Since the latest kernels it won't compile anymore without errors.
Anyone get some idea how to get arround with this?

Make sure to have linux-headers installed as the same version lie your kernel.
The source for acerhk-0.5.35.tgz is unavailable so i downloaded it from here http://filesocial.com/3ex2d4 and put it in the same folder as PKBUILD

[Solved] Alac doesn't work anymore with Gstreamer0.10

Apple Loseless Audio Codec support seems to be broken for me in the 0.10 branch of gstreamer. Before I was able to play ALAC files in rhythmbox and banshee but it does not work anymore. I think the support for ALAC files is integrated in the package gstreamer-ffmpeg.
This problem does't seems to occur in the 1.0 branch of gstreamer as ALAC files work with Totem and it also work with vlc which use dirrectly ffmpeg.
Does someone have the same problem or is it a problem with my system ?
I tried to reinstall gstreamer0.10 and all plugins but it didn't solve the problem.
