[SOLVED] Preserving fonts in documents

I edit most of my documents on my Arch PC, which I do not have hooked up to a printer. I use a separate printer, connected to another PC. But, that PC does not have the beautiful fonts I loaded Arch with.
Is there a way to convert ODT OpenOffice Writer documents into images? PNG/TIFF would work, but PDF would be preferable. Note that it can't be what most PDF makers make, where the actual text is in the PDF, it has to be a PDF of images so that font rendering the way I set it up in Arch is preserved after taking the document to the other PC.
Thanks!

I don't believe OO is embedding the fonts. That's a really good idea, though, I'll look into that and see if there's a way to do it.
Aha! Got it. Apparently you must check the 'PDF/A1' option when exporting to PDF. That's so descriptive and understandable, right?

  • How to embed fonts in document for all users

    Hello,
we are using a custom font for our documents. I know it's possible to embed fonts in document when saving.
Is there an option to enforce this setting with a policy?
I cannot find the right policy in the Office Policy templates.
We are using Office 2013 x86.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, the option is document-based, we can't control this on the Policy level.
If your request is to turn on this option for all new created documents. Since all new documents are based on the Normal.dotm template, a workaround is to create a new Normal.dotm template in which this option is checked:
Browse to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates, open Normal.dotm, tick the option and save it as Normal_1.dotm, save it in the same location.
Then rename the old Normal.dotm to Normal.old, rename Normal_1.dotm to Normal.dotm.
Open Word and create a new blank document, you will see this option is ticked.
To deploy this file for all users, we can write a startup script. The process is like: 1. Remove the old Normal.dotm, 2. Copy the new Normal.dotm template from a network shared location to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.
I hope the information is helpful to you.

  • InDesign CS6 - fonts problems (Document fonts fight with system installed fonts, "font incomplete")

    hello
First, Indesign function to automatically open fonts from "Document fonts" folder is fantastic, quasy font manager. BUT, fonts is available ONLY for THAT indesign document, no other application can use it, even from CS6 suite. This is probably the most stupid decision about how this function must work. IDEALLY, fonts will be available for ALL application inside CS package until indd doc is closed. If I need some font for editing links in photoshop, illustrator I need to install them. This workflow have wrong concept.
We now have problem, sorry Indesign have problem. Example, I need type1 font mt-symbol for mathtype AND for Indesign. This font is installed in c:\windows\fonts folder. Everything work fine. When I make package from Indesign and reopen indesign indd document inside package, Indesign report that mt-symbol IS INCOMPLETE. WHY, BECAUSE CONCURENT FONTS from both C:\windows\fonts folder AND FROM "Document fonts" folder. If I rename "Document fonts" folder, Indesign open font only from system and everything work properly.
THIS IS BIG PROBLEM, fonts circles around workflow/folders and always will be duplicates in "document fonts" and system\fonts folder because different application need same fonts.
    Any solution?

Another problem with the Document Fonts folder that we just noticed: in CS5, you could place Windows Type 1 fonts (.pfm and .pfb) into the Document Fonts folder on a Mac and InDesign would activate them.
This no longer works in CS6. (Bug report filed.)
Huge bummer, as this was a great timesaver and workaround in a high-production prepress environment when working with old Windows files. Hopefully this was not an intentional change and will be restored in a later bugfix release, or at worst in CS7.

  • Installing missing font during document opening

    Hi All,
I have a requirement of installing the missing fonts in a document when the document is opened.
I have used the kMissingFontSignalResponderService to handle the missing font.
Because InDesign API does not provide any facility to install font, I have used the Windows API for the same.
When I get the missing font signal, I install the font using the ttf file and then broadcast the WM_FONTCHANGE message.
The problem is that I am not able to get the IPMFont instance of the just installed font. I require that instance to call the SetRequest(IPMFont*) method of IMissingFontSignalData. But I never get the instance for the recently installed font. Using methods like QueryFontByDisplayName in IFontMgr to get the IPMFont instance returns null for the installed font.
The font is indeed installed correctly but I am unable to notify the font manager about the new font.
Can anyone shed light to solve this issue?

    Hi Andrew,
I tried ForceUpdateFontSystem too. Yet I do not get the IPMFont instance. Seems like the font manager is still unaware of the installed font. The font is indeed installed but the missing font alert appears once. If I open the document again there is no missing font alert as the font is indeed installed.
Can you kindly put some more inputs?

  • See a list of all the missing fonts in document?

Ive been sent a Photoshop document by someone but some of the fonts are missing.
If I double click on a layer that is missing a font Im told what the font is. This can be time consuming so is there a way of seeing a list of all the missing fonts in a document?
    thanks

    Ann,
In Acrobat Pro 9, go to: File --> Properties... --> Fonts
I recommend that you ask further Acrobat questions in the Acrobat forum where those pros hang out. Thanks.

  • Embedding fonts in document

I work for a Printing Display company. Illustrator CS3 allows you to embedd subset fonts only with permission bits available. The problem I'm having is some of our big customers do not want to send copies of the fonts they paid for. They save the file as a PDF with the fonts embedded so that they will view and print from either Acrobat or Reader. If I open the file in Illustrator I get a "Font missing" warning. What is the work around for this? The reason I need to open these files in a Graphics App is because we need to use our templates in order to edit colors and bleeds and such. Without the fonts it's pretty much useless. We could tell the customer to just outline all text but this is a hassle for all kinds of reasons. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Paul,
When you open a PDF in Illy, all text is made Live Type, using the same font. If it is not accessible on your machine, Illy substitutes another font based on her best guess for a best match.
The option of having embedded fonts outlined and thereby turned into non (textwise) editable vector objects, very useful in many cases without need for modifying wording, has long been wished. I am afraid this wish has not been met yet; maybe it will happen in CS5, or later, or never.
Those PDFs without issues only hold fonts that you have.
I thought I remembered that there was a cunning roundabout way of obtaining this, and here it is, at least for versions from CS2 on:
    1) File>New to open a new blank document;
    2) File>Place the PDF, ticking the Link option;
    3) Object>Flatten Transparency, ticking Convert All Text to Outlines option if applicable (flattening causes outlining at least in 10).

  • How can I preserve word internal document hyperlinks when importing into indd cs6

I have a document that is hundreds of pages long. The document was created in word by another user and has many internal document hyperlinks. Is it possible to preserve the hyperlinks, so that they show up and work in indd CS6? The document will then be exported as an interactive pdf and the links need to work there as well.
The final product is the interactive pdf. I am just using indd to add a simple background to the content created in word. If there is any other way to preserve the hyperlinks, perhaps, by somehow adding the background in acrobat pro and excluding even taking the document into indd, please let me know.
    Mahalo!

    Thanks Lori for the reply.
Unfortunately. my Epson 3170 Photo does not come with scan-to-fax software.

  • [SOLVED] Java Font Too Small in OpenBox

I usually use Cinnamon, but decided to give OpenBox a whirl again. I am encountering a problem with OpenBox and the size of fonts in Java apps. I'm using the Oracle JDK, not OpenJDK.
These first screenshots show the font on OpenBox being too small:
    http://www.dadburn.com/linuxscreenshots … tprob1.png
    http://www.dadburn.com/linuxscreenshots … tprob2.png
As you can see, the fonts used for the controls is super tiny. As can be seen from the second example, the font can be configured in the editing portion through the applications. But the controls themselves remain too small.
When I log into the SAME account, but use Cinnamon, the fonts are fine. Reference:
    http://www.dadburn.com/linuxscreenshots … tprob3.png
    http://www.dadburn.com/linuxscreenshots … tprob4.png
So the only difference in these screenshots are the fonts. And the only difference is that I am using Cinnamon vs OpenBox. I;ve searched Google and the Wiki and the Forums, but I'm either not using the proper search terms or just overlooking the results. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
Also, I am using the fontconfig-infinality stuff. I don't think that matters and again, Cinnamon works and OpenBox has too small a font. And the problem is only on Java apps, not other things.
    Thanks in advance.

I've done more digging. I have this in my /etc/profile:
    export _JAVA_OPTIONS='-Dswing.systemlaf=com.sun.java.swing.plaf.gtk.GTKLookAndFeel -Dswing.defaultlaf=com.sun.java.swing.plaf.gtk.GTKLookAndFeel -Dswing.aatext=true -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=on'
Well, this screws up gdx-setup (the first screenshot). If I only use
    export _JAVA_OPTIONS='-Dswing.aatext=true -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=on'
Then gdx-setup looks fine. Netbeans was still messed up either way. I did find that it seems Netbeans has issues with the GTK+ look and feel on non-GTK platforms. So I reverted NetBeans to the (ugly) Metal theme and now the fonts are bigger.
So I am marking this as solved. It seems that the GTK+ look and feel is just not happy on non-GTK+ platforms. I guess that makes sense in a way.

  • (Solved) Openbox font too small

I've removed gnome and installed openbox, and now my fonts are too small. My firefox webpage fonts are fine, tint2 fonts are ok as well. But I think some leftover gnome setting is affecting it. I deleted .gnome2, but it's not working. What should I do?
EDIT: Fixed! Didn't think of Xorg at first

  • Does anybody know how to solve this font problem?

    Hello everyone,
I have had this font problem for weeks now and I can't seem to get it solved. There are a number of fonts that won't load properly in Illustrator, PS, and InDesign. They are loaded in the system, but refuse to show up in the list. I've installed them in the home directory/library/fonts. These are commercial opentype fonts and one homemade opentype font. Sometimes the font that I created will appear, other times it does not, but many other fonts refuse to show up in the font display lists of these 3 software packages.
I've cleared the font caches with FontNuke, everything looks like it should work properly, but it does not. Also, with Font Book, I've resolved any duplicate font problems. Does anybody know how to solve this problem? Is this a known CS4 bug?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm using the latest Mac Mini and CS4 software.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
How do I check if the fonts have the correct creator and so on?
Anyway, I've spent the better part of today validating and removing suspect
fonts. Why does the right click choice for resolve duplicates and the
validate font behave completely differently in Font Book? I discovered that
when this is investigated further with the validate font command, I found I
had a massive amount of duplicates that according to font book cause minor
errors. I thought that would have been sorted out with the resolve duplicate
command, instead I ended up check marking and manually removing the fonts
    that had minor errors.
I still have many commercial fonts plus my own font not showing up in
Illustrator or PhotoShop. If I copy and paste the font directly into
InDesign's font folder, my font shows up. I also tried removing my font to
see if this would fix any of the other problems. It doesn't. I did type in
my font name in the console dialog box and this message is displayed for
this font as well as mine and many others.
10-04-06 5:21:09 PM Font Book[12940] ##### ERROR:  The font system thinks
    the font
    file://localhost/Library/Fonts/Voluta%20Script%20Pro/VolutaScriptPro-Regular.otf
is active, but the file no longer exists!
Then I went back to font book to check to see if it is there and it is
enabled. For my font the caution triangle appears with the multiple copies
of the font is installed. Resolving duplicates doesn't solve this problem.
Any ideas of how to fix this problem?
    Thanks

Hi, I just enabled the testing the community testing repos today. I updated and I got a huge list of updates and pacman downloaded them. However while checking for file conflicts it said locale.sh was found in /etc/profile.d/ folder and hence it did not install anything. • Set default font for document

Is there a way to set the default font for all objects in a document? For some reason it is Helvetica Neue every time and I need to change it to what I want.

    Hello
The defaults reached thru the Terminal are not storing infos about the font used as default one in a template.
I apologize but when I select all in a Numbers document and save it as a template, it doesn't match your requirements.
Each time I insert a new table it defaults to HelveticaNeue.
This is why I gave the tip which changes the font name in the Index.xml file.
    From my iDisk:
    <http://idisk.mac.com/koenigyvan-Public?view=web>
    you may download:
    :For_iWork:changeFont.zip
which gives you the ability to do the job very easily.
    you may also download
    For_iWork:removePrintRecord.zip
which removes the print Record embedded in our documents if this one is annoying.

  • [SEMI-SOLVED] MonoDevelop fonts are invisible in XMonad

A MonoDevelop project open in the XMonad tiling window manager:
The same MonoDevelop project is shown, but this time I opened it in the MATE Desktop Environment:
Any idea what might be causing the fonts to “disappear” in XMonad?
Note that the text is actually there in XMonad: in MonoDevelop’s editor, I can do CTRL+A CTRL+C and then paste in e.g. LeafPad and see that the text does exist, it is just misteriously invisible.
I would really like to solve this since I want to use XMonad as my everyday environment.

Well this issue is semi-solved, but honestly I do not know what fixed it.
I wish I had a specific fix to share in case someone else encouters the same issue, but for the record here is what I tried, in no particular order.
(The two last points probably have nothing to do with the problem I was having, as they relate to how Java programs behave in tiling WM, but as I said, I have no clue what fixed my invisible fonts in MonoDevelop (in XMonad), so I’ll just dump everything I did in that list…) :
    installed ttf-ms-fonts from the AUR
installed a few themes from the AUR, i.e. adwaita-x-dark-and-light-theme and a few others
    removed `wmname LG3D' from my `~/.xinitrc'
    uncommented export _JAVA_AWT_WM_NONREPARENTING=1 in `/etc/profile.d/jre.sh'
    I think that’s it.
P.S. : however, fonts are still invisible on some tabs in MonoDevelop, but that problem happens in both XMonad and MATE, so I marked this as [SEMI-SOLVED]. Any input appreciated !

  • Marketing Fonts in Document

Marketing wants to send out .pdf documents that have company
specific fonts in them. If I try to do that in .pdf, the fonts will
not be viewable by our intended customers. Is there a way to embed
the font in the document such that it is viewable by the intended
    customers?
What are the pros and cons to this approach?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    Dave,
It is possible to embed fonts in a PDF document. However this
functionality has not been included with the Acrobat.com online
Create PDF feature. You would have to create your PDF files with
the full Acrobat desktop product. I believe in that case choosing
embedding fonts is simply a checkbox in the settings.
    Pros:
Document will look exactly like you want, no matter who opens
it or what fonts they have installed on their system.
    Cons:
File size will be larger because fonts are included in the
    file.
