[Solved] Problem: Celeron Dual Core identified as Core i7

Hello, I'm new in this forum and in Arch linux, so excuse me if I'm not clear. I want to rebuilt all my system and have it optimized for my computer. I have an Intel Celeron Dual Core.
cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 37
model name : Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU P4500 @ 1.87GHz
As you can see in the model line it identifies my dual core as core i7. I checked this page http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Safe_Cflags/Intel and it say that Intel Celeron Dual Core is model 15 and/or 23, but my system identifies it as 37.
I tryed these commands and they also identifies my cpu as corei7:
cc -march=native -E -v - </dev/null 2>&1 | grep cc1
gcc -Q --help=target -march=native
I am afraid that I'll have problems if I rebuild all my system with CXXFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe". What do you advise me to do?

I believe that he intends to recompile everything (not just his kernel).
@OP:
Recompiling your kernel is only worth it if you modify the .config. Rebuilding everything else is pretty much useless (unless you want to add buffer overflow protection etc.).

  • Presario-CQ56 Intel Celeron Dual-Core T3500

    Hi,
I am wondering if I am able to upgrade my Processor to a Intel® Core™2 Duo processor T9550.
I currently have a  Intel Celeron Dual-Core T3500, Both processes run on the Penryn PGA478 Socket. So I would assume there wouldn't be an issue?
Any answers regarding this would be much appreciated.
    Cheers.
    This question was solved.

The information you just provided is enough.
I wish that I had better news to give you.
Unfortunately there is no BIOS support for the T9500 Core 2 duo CPU. The actual issue is the Intel GL-40 chipset on the systemboard. It does not support the mobile Core2 duo CPUs
The following image shows the only two CPUs that are guaranteed compatible. Neither one has the grunt of a Core2duo CPU.

  • Booting/Crashing Problems with Dual Core 2.3GHz PowerMac

I'm wondering if anybody else is having this problem. ...
I'm having problems booting my new Mac... for the first few weeks everything was fine ... but for the last few of days it often takes 2 or 3 tries to boot to the desktop (it hangs during the boot process) and sometimes when it get there it freezes when I try to launch an app. Rebooting yet again usually solves the problem...
Yesterday after i got it booted it sounded like my disk drive was working for a long time after it was booting the computer was very slow and when i checked CPU usage was very high bit i was not running anything to cause that!
This evening I had to reboot 5 times before I was able to do anything .. and one time the fans kicked into high gear and sounded like a vacuum cleaner!
Once I got it going I opened Mail and checked my new eMails, opened Safari then left the computer for about a half hour and when I got back I had message on my screen saying I had to reboot!
When I got my Mac I immediately ran the full hardware test and it passed... Then I immediately added 2 GB of Crucial RAM and ran the full hardware and memory test yet gain and everything passed...
So it should NOT be a RAM issue.
Has anybody else seen this type of thing and/or has any suggestions on how to fix it or isolate the problem?
    Thanks
    - karen

    Feldspar-
As I'm waiting for for my replacement Dual Core 2.3 G5 to arrive back from Apple, I've been scanning this site to see if there has been any conclusive determination about the underlying problems with the new G5s. So far, I'm sorry to report, I don't see any.
My recomendation to you is to talk directly to apple tech support If you aren't already. Although they may not have a definate solution at this point, you may be able to get a new machine, with more assurrances of it being healthy, than getting your current machine repaired at a service center. You have only 30 days from your purchase date to determine this, and in my case it took a few days working with them to get to the point where all of their tests and trials were done and my machine was classified DOA.
We have paid too much money for a machine that is only as reliable as the amount of time we're willing to spend to get it running after a few (or more)boots. One of the main reasons I've chosen Apple for all these years is that I didn't want to have to learn all of the underlying engineering and programming that make it work. I have always been willing to pay more money for a system that works when you turn it on the first time. I am confident that Apple wants very much to maintain their image of reliablility since much of their competitive edge is the advantage of great looking Apple hardware running their feature packed native software.
I am hoping that we haven't entered a new era with Apple products where my new best friend is going to be the tech guy at the local apple repair center: (not to knock any of them..by the way.)
Although I don't make my living on my cumputer as you do, I depend on my computer throughout my day for information, important financial transactions and comunication. It goes beyond inconvenient to have to send my machine back, for whatever reason. I am writing this on a rock solid G4 933 that has never had a single problem. Have I just been lucky?

  • P6N SLI V2 problem with "dual core center"

I have the P6N SLI  V2 with E4400 and 7600gt running XP pro sp 2.
after installing and running MSI's "dual core center" (including .Net framework) I only have the "VGA" option enabled, the "MB" option is disabled as well as the D.O.T option. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as downloading the latest version, but I have the same problem. I get no MB options at all (like no cpu temp, fan speed, core speed etc.). I didn't make any changes to the BIOS yet (other than changing the boot sequence), and ideas?

    and ideas?
    A great one.
Don't use MSI's utilities. Anyone here will tell you that.

  • Problem with Dual Core Center and MSI 3870

Hello again, my previous thread is this:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=113164.0
The VGA works well, the problem is that AFTER i installed it the Dual Core Center stoped to work!!
Installed the dotnetfix again but no avail, still doesn't work.
And i know that happened after installed the VGA, so i believe that must be part of the problem.
    Thanks!

Try the latest version of Dual Core Center.

  • Problem with dual core processors: 50% ressources are not used.

    Hello all,
I have noticed, that the java app cannot get normally more than 50% of the system ressources. I use different threads in my application, but the app still does't achieve 100% of system power. Max 50-60%.
If I run two processes, I get 100%, but I can't share memory space between this two process. Or I can?
What is the best way to write an application, that can use 100%, in other words, full power of dual core processors.
    Thanks in advance.

Try thread.setPriority() method. I am making guess
    and any comments
from experts on this method will be highly
    acknowledged.Yeah. Don't do that, it's a bad idea.
Back to the original post, there are two reasons this can be happening.
    1) Your code is not efficient multi-threading wise. If you are for example running two thread that are in theory parallel but in actual fact provide linear execution so that one is almost blocked by the other then multiple threads and multiple cores will underutilized. It's hard to speculate further on this without seeing your code.
    2) The OS. First of all there is the issue of how the oS shares up the processor between processes. This varies and may or may not be configurable. The bottom line on this point is that your OS may be capping the utilization of the processor by process. Again there's not enough information give by you to expand on this point. The second OS issue regards how the OS deals with multi-core. Just because you have a multicore processor does not mean that your OS automatically can take advantage of it.

  • Ethernet gem 0 and gem1 transmission problem in dual core

I followed Xapp 1079 article on my custom board.I am able to see output(cpu0  and cpu1 hello world)  on putty.
In my custom board two ethernet ports are present.Aim of the project is eth0 port in cpu0 has transfer the data to eth1 port in cpu1.
cpu0 contains the eth0 port which takes the data from pc1 and transfers to eth1 port.cpu1 contains eth1 port which takes data from pc2 and transfers to Eth0 port.
In following conditions communication is happening successfully
    1.
In cpu0 drivers intialised for both eth0 and eth1
And written code eth0 to eth1()
                                    eth1 to eth0()
i checked ping b/w pc1 and pc2 communication is happening
    2.
In cpu1 drivers intialised for both eth0 and eth1
And written code eth0 to eth1()
                                    eth1 to eth0()
i checked ping b/w pc1 and pc2 communication is happening
If i try to place code of eth0toeth1() in cpu0
                                            eth1toeth0()in cpu1
then ping is not happening between the two pc's.I debugged and checked one function called XEmacPs_BdIsTxUsed().

  • Dual Core, but just one recognized [SOLVED]

In the last days I had problems with my computer just going off randomly after some time... As I found out the CPU fan was too loose... Now I somehow fastened it so it seems to work normally now.
Today I noticed (I'm not sure whether it's now the first time or I just didn't see it) that on booting I see just one Arch logo, although I have a Dual Core processor and normally there are 2 logos... I checked whether GRUB has the option nosmp set which was not the case. cat /proc/cpuinfo gave me just one core.. Then I tried to boot the arch live cd (the 2008.06) and cpuinfo had both there!
The BIOS says that there are still 2 as well... so my first idea, that one core is broken because of overheating seems to be wrong, it's impossible that just one core breaks, doesn't it?
So my question is - how do I get my core to be recognized again? I have the new 2.6.29 kernel.. could this be the problem?
My second question is - the information about launching daemons on booting appears AFTER showing the login prompt (I login via tty) [EDIT: This had to do with the OpenNTPD daemon...]

  • Jdeveloper dual core processor performance problem

I have a dual core 2.4 ghz processor and 2 gig of ram and Im running Jdevloper 9.0.5.2 and my performace is terrible. Other developers in the company have non-dual core processors and they can start up in debug mode using the Jdeveloper embedded oc4j our application in 10 seconds where it takes me 4 min!!!!! It is a struts, ejb web application. Is there anything I can do to help in debug mode??? cheers.
    Murray

    Hi Bernard,
Which version of McAfee are you using?
On my (personal) laptop, I'm using McAfee VirusScan 9.0.10. I don't frequently run JDeveloper on this laptop, but when I do, it's not experiencing signficant startup delays (it's a very low power machine: PIII 650 512Mb)
McAfee VirusScan seems to have very few configuration options (noticably different from Norton, which I use on my corporate desktop machine). I specifically remember changing the "File Types to Scan" option to "Program files and documents only". You can get to this by right clicking the "M" notification area icon, VirusScan->Options menu, Advanced button on the ActiveShield page.
In Norton, I think I have it configured so that it only scans files on write rather than on read. I also exclude directories which contain jdeveloper installs or other large Java apps (although scanning only on write elliminates most of the performance problems anyway and still leaves your system reasonably secure).
The easiest way to convince your MIS dept that the virus checker is the source of your problems might be if you ask them to allow you to turn it off in order to test the difference it makes to performance. It's a reasonable request to make if you're trying to elliminate possible causes for the slowdown (from the description you gave, it does sound like the AV upgrade is the first place I'd start looking).
If the virus checker is the source of your problems, you'll probably be seeing massive slowness in most large Java applications that have a large number of JARs on their classpath.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Can I install Windows 7 in 13-inch MacBook Pro (2.7 ghz Dual Core i-7) without problem

Can I install Windows 7 without any trouble in Macbook Pro (2.7 Ghz Dual Core I-7) ?

Since I always look at Windows as a problem, I would have to say no.
But if you must then you need to create a partition with Boot Camp in which to install your copy of Windows 7. The Core I7 doesn't support XP or Vista.

  • K9NGM Dual Core Problem

    Hey guys.
Seems I have the same problem as the OP. Everything on the system says that dual core should be working, ACPI multi installed etc but only 1 core in task manager. Im going to try roll back the bios because the dual core was working before I flashed it. Thing is I only have the MSI download version of 7252v31, which apparantly needs to be used from a dos enviroment, hence needing a boot floppy to construct a ramdrive etc..(I have no floppy drive).
The 7252 v3.60 latest driver has a little MSI install program to let you install through windows (MSISetup.exe). Is there a way of installing 7252v31 through windows, or can i just use it through a dos window in XP.
If anyone can maybe link me to a windows installable version of the last bios update before 3.60 (which is possibly the update that has caused this problem) I would be most grateful.
Also, will I have to go in and reset the CMOS manually?, or should the update program clear it for me (as it appeared to do when I installed 3.60 with the MSI exe).
Thanks very much for any help this is driving me nuts.
PS: Yes I am a very bad person for flashing my BIOS when i didnt need to. Lesson learnt.
