[SOLVED] Problem mounting iPod

Hi guys,
I'm trying to mount an iPod Nano, but it's not being recognized. I use to plug many flash drives on my computer and all of them get automounted. When I plug the iPod, lsusb recognizes it, but it does not get automounted, and no device at /dev for the iPod is available either. These are the outputs I have.

  • Firewire Problems : Mounting iPod Using External HD - iBook G4?

I cannot get my iPod to mount on the iBook's desktop. iBook is a 1.33Ghz G4.
I have a 1st generation iPod and bought an external Seagate HD (160GB) and a drive enclosure (the latter included an external powerblock, I can post the make/model if needed). I bought the HD in with the intention of storing my iTunes music library.
I've never had a problem mounting the iPod on the iBook via the Firewire port. Using the external HD is a different story. Because the iBook has only a single Firewire port, I connect the external HD to the iBook's Firewire Port and then connect the iPod to the Firewire port on the back of the external HD. When in this configuration, the iPod fails to mount on the desktop.
I've done a temporary, barebones workaround by copying a few critical music files onto my iBook's HD iTune library and then just downloading those few files to the iPod. But this is a huge PITA. My iPod is pretty much crippled if I cannot load the music files I need on it. I'm frozen out of my music library. My iPod only is only 5gig capacity & will not store my entire music library, so I need to have the flexibility to load the music I want, when I want.
Can any one advise what, if anything can be done to get the iPod to mount while connected to the external HD?
Thanks a bunch for any assistance.

  • [SOLVED] Problem mounting nfs shares

    Hello everybody,
    I keep getting the following error when I try to mount an NFS share;
mount.nfs4: an incorrect mount option was specified
The corresponding line in /etc/fstab is this:
    pc-francois.local:/francois /mnt/pc-francois nfs4 rw,port=2049,noauto,users,intr  0 0
    showmount -e pc-francois.local gives this:
    Export list for pc-francois.local:
    /export/archives 192.168.1.0/24
    /export/portage  192.168.1.0/24

    /export          10.8.0.0/24,192.168.1.0/24
Finally, the nfs related modules are loaded. lsmod | grep nfs gives this:
    nfsv4                 129119  0
    nfsd                  228113  13

    sunrpc                170119  19 nfs,nfsd,auth_rpcgss,lockd,nfsv4
It works perfectly fine from other client not running on arch linux. Like indicated in the howto, I have enabled and started the services rpcbind.service,nfs-client.target and remote-fs.target
Can somebody explains what is happening ?

I finally solved my problem by changing the mount options to  this in fstab:
    pc-francois.local:/francois /mnt/pc-francois nfs4 rw,proto=tcp,vers=4.0,noauto,users,intr  0 0
One week to find it... Maybe it wants to use nfs 4.1 by default.

my ipod is not working so poeple said that i have to restore my ipod and when i did my itunes said that there is an error !!

The iPhone has full Warranty with Apple. So Apple can replace the iPhone with a perfect iPhone 4S for you. Regarding the Logic Board, it is probably the same price or cheaper to just get another iPhone 4S. Logic Boards are hard to come across and they cost about the same as entire perfect iPhone 4S.

  • PC does not recognize Ipod - Can't mount IPOD error message

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone experienced the same problem with their Ipod as I have. I have tried to play songs on my Ipod through the shuffle songs function but it does not work. The Ipod tries to play one song; however, it will not play it and then it will continue to the next which won't play either and this continues until I just shut off my Ipod. I have tried resetting it and also reinstalling Itunes but it does not help the problem.
A second problem is that my Windows PC does not recognize my Ipod when I plug it in. I have tried so many things to try and solve this including trying to restore my IPOD using the updater but when I keep getting the error message "Can't mount IPOD".
If anyone knows what I can do to try to fix this I am greatly in your debt!
    Thanks!

I had the same problem. Now I have many new ones. Here goes the chain of events 1st iPod did the same exact thing:
    1. Was going along my marry way listening to music
    2. Music stops playing
    3. I look to find my iPod cycling throughe very song but playing none... for an hour.
    4. I turn it off.
    5. I get home to attempt to restore it but when I plug it up to the computer, it is not recognized, cannot mount, ect.
    6. I continue trying to find a way, then it stops going to the "Do Not Disconnect" screen.
    7. Well I try it later on today, like 20 mins ago and it does it! Yay! but then it resets itself and it now rests on the apple logo and Windows does not recognize the USB device.
Oh yeah, did I mention I made the trade and got this one SATURDAY. Yeah so it's already broken.
    any suggestions?

  • Ipod updater can't mount ipod

Hi everyone, I get the folder with the exclamation mark picture so I'm trying to restore my ipod.
The problem is, when I connect my ipod and run the program, I get an error that says, "can't mount ipod."
    Any ides?

I had the same problem today; I tried reformatting, updating, disconnecting and reconnecting to the computer, restarting the computer. I had gotten the exclamation point icon, the apple icon and a check mark but I could not get get past the "can't mount" message. I finally found one suggestion on the discussion panel that said as a last resort to "gently" drop the Ipod onto the floor from waist level. I put my Ipod in the soft-sided case and dropped it twice. The second drop solved the entire set of problems I was having. The hard drive had been clicking through all the procedures I tried and immediately quieted, I reconnected, reformatted and was good to go!

  • Changing iPod drive letter fixes "could not mount ipod"

So the problem I was having is that although my Windows XP SP2 machine could see my iPod nano as a drive, whenever I tried to use iPod Updater or iTunes, they could not connect/recognize the device. iTunes would simply not see that I had the device, while the updater would freeze for a good 5 - 10 minutes before giving me the "could not mount ipod" error. I tried everything, selective startup, windows update, made sure that I did indeed have USB 2.0 hardware, made sure that when I connected the ipod that Windows Device Manager said it was a "Standard ENHANCED USB Hub," restarted ipodservice, formatted ipod using windows, and probably a few other things. Still, although Windows could see the ipod just fine, apple's software just could not. I could even copy files to and from the device just fine! If only we didn't need iTunes to copy music. :P
Well, one thing I suspected it could be is that with my computer, my primary hard drive (and I only have one) is mysteriously drive letter "D" while when I plugged in my iPod it took on the holy "C" drive letter. Could this be a problem? Possibly, but not likely I thought. So I tried some 3rd party software which emulated the ipod software and I got an error message. First that it appeared my ipod was not formatted (which it was) and second that it "could not create :\ipod_control". First thing I thought was, where is the drive letter? The software isn't even looking for the ipod in C:\, it's looking nowhere! So what I did it changed the ipod's drive letter from C to something else and viola, it worked.
So it seems the iPod may not like it when it is named C, or there was some conflict with the iPod using the C drive letter since, I'll admit, I used to have two hard drives and the other one used to be C. Could also be a bug, who knows.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Ah, the Drive Letter C problem again.
The iPod software and iTunes will not recognize the iPod if it is assigned to drive C. Changing the drive letter to a higher one not used by other drives will solve the problem.

  • Can't mount iPod error message

Hi, I am trying to fix a feezing problem on my iPod (on startup the display shows a folder with an exclamation mark) and was trying to do a factory restore on it when I ran into the following error messages.
Installing the latest version of Updater, I tried connecting the iPod and then saw a Windows error message that said:
    Cannot Install this Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware

An error occurred during the installation of the device
The specified service does not exist as an installed service
After seeing this error message, Updater then displayed the next error message:
    Can't mount iPod
Can someone suggest how I can fix this so the iPod is recognized and I can have Updater restore the factory settings?

  • IPod won't restore...error message saying "Can't mount iPod"...

I have determined that I need to restore my iPod based on my problem (I manually update playlists and cannot add a playlist because I get an error message saying "The disk cannot be read from or written to.") So I open iPod updater 11-17-2005 to try to restore my iPod and I get an error message saying "Can't mount iPod". I can't restore or update my iPod because of this error message. Can anyone help me? I've been all through the discussions, online help, etc., and can't find this particular error message. Thanks!!

I came to charge my iPod because the battery went low, after few minutes it came on with this do not disconnect, i tried to restore it also says can't mount, it has been exactly two days. I disconnected the iPod and the backlight and the message did not go off until the battery ran out. • "can't mount iPOD" - unable to restore

    Hi,
I would greatly appreciate any advise on the following problem...
My iPOD froze, so I conducted a reset. After the reset the screen displayed an exclamation point and folder icon. After reading the support guidelines on the site I tried the following:
I put my iPOD in disk mode, and fully charged it up (however note that although I have had my iPOD for 14 months the battery still lasts for around 6 - 8 hours).
I ran my version of iPOD updater on my pc which stated "iPOD not readable - needs to be reformatted for use on PC". The only option available to select was the restore option which I tried and the following message was displayed "Can't mount iPOD".
I thought that this message may be because my version of updater and iTunes were old. Therefore, I installed the latest versions - 2005 -11-17 and v6 respectively. However, on trying to run the newer updater again I can't see my iPOD in iTunes, my computer / desktop etc. now even when in disk mode.
Eventually the message "can't mount iPOD" is displayed.
Any idea's on what to try would be great.
    Many thanks

Alright. Let me start off by saying that my iPod issue is resolved. However, before I get to the solution, let me answer other questions raised since my last post.
I did try using a different USB port. I even tried my pc at work and it had the same results. Now, for how I resolved it.
After the last post, my iPod deteriorated to the point that it stopped working altogether. When resetting it, it would just come up with the Apple icon and then turn off. Without getting into all the details, I deduced that it was a bad battery. I invested $25.95 into a DIY battery kit. It was a bit dicey performing surgery on my beloved iPod, but with only minor scarring, I now have a fully functional iPod that syncs with iTunes and functions like new.
I'm not saying all "unable to mount iPod" problems are caused by bad batteries, but it could be one of the causes. Coincidentally, my problems started 16 months after starting to use my iPod. That roughly translates to 400+ charge cycles. That's when Apple says the battery performance will begin to deteriorate. I just wish Apple's SW would have some sort of diagnostics that's more accurate. I got the folder w/ the exclamation point, sad iPod and battery icon pictures before figuring out that I needed a new battery!

  • Problem Ejecting iPod Photo since updating software

Can anyone help with my problem ?
Just updated iTunes to 5.0.0.35. All seemed ok until I needed to update software on iPod (colour screen, 60gb) to 1.2 so I can use the camera connector I bought when I go on holiday.
Now I'm having serious problems. I've had the pod for a few months and it's been great until now.
I've been adding album art to iTunes albums. Now the pod with it's new software connects to itunes much slower and I seem to have lost songs from the pod. "Do Not Disconnect" message is continuously on pods screen. It won't disconnect from tunes and when I try to disconnect from PC using the safely remove hardware tactic, I get a box saying "The Device 'Apple iPod USB Device' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later."
I've tried everything, from safely removing it to right clicking to eject. The iPod is still stuck on the DO NOT DISCONNECT screen. The only way was to disconnect it then restart the pod using menu/select buttons together. But when I connect it again to the PC, the same thing has happened. Again, I've tried all sorts, from rebooting the PC to changing some options in iTunes.
This all seems to be since I updated the software this morning (Sept 30). I've also tried resoring the iPod and starting all over again, but a soon as you connect it to the PC, it seems to freeze up with that same message on the screen. iPod Updater software said it "Couldn't Mount iPod connected".
Please put me out of my misery. Boo Hoo............

    Cheers for that Mrsuknow,
Unfortunately I don't have an 'automatically disconnect' check box under my ipod tab, or anywhere else in preferences for that matter.
And the pod never finishes updating. It tries for a few minutes, then a message appears saying, Ipod couldn't be updated, file(s) not found. A load of exclamation marks appear next to certain songs in the iPod library. When I try to play any of them on the pod, they show as being there but won't play. They're still there on iTunes.
And I've tried restoring factory settings again on the pod, but updater says it can't mount the iPod again.
    Boo.....

  • Problem restoring iPod.

I think I've gotten myself into a big problem. Okay, last week, I couldn't put songs on my iPod so I decided to use EPH Pod instead of iTunes to do this. Now, my iPod is skipping songs, and when it plays them it only plays the beginning then skips. Okay, I want to restore the iPod now, but when I go into the ipod updater, it says Cannot Mount iPod, PLEASE HELP ME!!

Go to find a Mac computer (if not, go to the nearest Apple Shop and ask them a favour), do a Restore there. Once it has been completed, replug your iPod with your PC (make sure to uninstall the EPH Pod first) and do a Restore back to PC version.

  • Skipping Problem and Ipod acting Strange

I brought an Ipod Video 30GB in march 2006
Recently it has started having the following problems
*it started freezing up in the middle of playing.
*It has also stopped loading tracks. It'll bring up the screen for the next track, sit there for a couple seconds with the track on 0:00 and then go on to the next track (without playing it either, on and on).
*The drive emits strange whirring sounds like a Hard disk being struck or like a CD drive trying to read a faulty CD but of course on a smaller scale
*sometimes when i try to switch it on it freezes with the apple icon
*it gets struck in the middle of a song and keeps continously replaying the little bit over and over again
I've been restarting it four or five times a day at work, mostly for the freezes. After a restart, it's good for an hour or two, then POW.
I have tried every trick in the book, like updating, resetting, formatting and restoring
I tried taking it to the apple service centre and they claim there is nothing wrong.
Now what am i to do???
Should i sell it off and buy a new one or can this problem be solved??

    Hi
I posted yesterday with a problem. I fixed that and downloaded the ipod software. I was trying to run the updater with the ipod shuffle plugged into the computer, and now it is saying it can't mount ipod. I also registerd the ipod, but that info does not come up?

  • Can't mount ipod

my ipod's a year and a half old. he never gave me any real problems until a month and a half ago, and that was just freezing until the battery died. it was fine from that point on until last night, when it just randomly died while i was playing it through my car's stero. i let the battery drain itself again this time, and now i'm just getting a parade of screens that show the apple icon, the file folder icon, and -- when i tried restoring the ipod through my computer -- the "do not disconnect screen."
i tried restoring my ipod with the ipod updater, and all it's saying is "can't mount ipod." i don't know what that means and i don't know what to do about it. can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks. xoxo

    Hi there-
For "can't mount iPod" there are usually 2 things you can do to take care of it.
First, try changing the iPod's drive letter. This article explains how to do that:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
    Then try to restore again.
If that doesn't work, go through the steps in this article, restart the computer when prompted to do so, and then try the restore again:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
This ought to allow you to restore your iPod.
Feel free to post back if you have any more problems or questions.
    Best wishes,
    CG
