[solved] Problem with HPLip since last update

Hi,
since last system update my printer (HP LaserJet M1212nf) which is shared via network does not work any longer. Scanning via xsane works only printing is affected.
Everytime if I want to print any document all I'll get is something like this:

There isn't any error message or similar. Printing starts as expected, but the result would look like above
hplip 3.12.4-1 and also the required plugin is installed correctly.

I have no clue what happened between updates but it seems that my printing is borked.
First off, details:
HP Deskjet F4140, using the hpijs ppd file that comes with hplip. I've tried printing in LibreOffice and vim. Both produce this strange page:

I'm at a complete loss for what to do. I've tried removing all the printers from CUPS, unplugging and replugging the printer, hp-setup, etc. I even tested the "device" tab under Printer Options and tried to make it use Postscript instead of PDF. I think there's something wrong in the configuration and I don't know where to look or what to search for on the net. I tried searching for various phrases here on the forum and the CUPS wiki page had nothing on this subject...

Problems with Wireless since last update of NetworkManager

Hello Everyone,
Yesterday I updated NetworkManager (and also, wpa_supplicant if I remember right, and kdeplasma-applets-networkmanagement). The problem now is that I connect to my Wireless and then after a few seconds (maybe 1minute max), I can't use my internet connection anymore, but the applet says that it is still connected. To make it work again I need to disconnect and then re-connect again.

Similar symptoms here. However, my problem was not solved by downgrading networkmanager (tried to networkmanager-0.9.4.0-6, same issue here).
nm-applet correctly lists available interfaces and tries to authenticate to my AP, gets an IP right away but straight after I lose it and then it looks like it's trying to reconnect for a long time. Sometimes it seems like I connected after a while and get an IP, but can't really do anything except ping my own IP.

All with latest network-manager. I might add that it was some months since I actually used wireless on this computer.

It came to my attention there a new program working with itune since last update named Apsdaemon.exe its been using 99% of my processor when its active any idea why so much and will it be fix eventually? And why is it so Heavy consuming ?

Now when that aplication or extention from Itune is working my computor froze to a huge alt. I play video games online and love listening to my music with itune playing in the background and normally was able to have firefox open and a program called ventrillo all working at the same time and now i can barelly have itune and play a game. As soon it start been choppy i just control alt delete wait 5 minute to close down apsdaemon.exe when i'm capable most of the time i have to restart my computor. And why is it so Heavy consuming on the process its memory utility is under the 100ko i believe so why 99% of my processus is been use ?
a good exemple i could give is itune.exe working it shows process 02% for 123 000ko that is light and perfect.

Problems while roaming since last update of an iPhone 5

Since last update the phone loses signal intermittently while a regular phone in the same network/account has a steady, strong signal. I've reset network settings and since it didn't work I did a hard reset, erasing and restoring the phone. The problem persists

Cannot sync with Outlook since last update

Hello,
Since last update of Sony PC Companion, I cannot synchronize anymore Outlook with Gmal calendar and contacts. A strange error occurs and then PC Companion stop to work. I have to kill it. In order to restart it, I need to restart the computer. Since last update of PC Companion, it has requested me to setup again the parameter of the synchronization, which is strange. Then synchronization fails:

Problem with firewire (since kernel-update?) [solved]

since i have updated my system, i am unable to connect my dv-camcorder to my firewire-card.
when i power on my dv-camcorder dmesg says:

I have tried a canon mv700 as well as a canon xm1, both lead to the same problem. I have tried to connect my camcorder also to my notebook which also runs the latest version of arch, but leads to the same problem too.
I think there is a problem with the new kernel or something. Two weeks ago, before updating my system, everything works well.
Any suggestions or ideas?

I solved this problem. Since kernel 2.6.22 there is a new firewire-stack available called 'juju'. Because of it´s experimental state it is not recommend to use it. In the current kernel-package the old and the new firewire-modules are included but the new instable ones are used by default. To fix the problem you have to blacklist the new firewire-modules.
Create the following file:
/etc/modprobe.d/newfw_blacklist:
blacklist firewire-ohci
blacklist firewire-sbp2
Reboot your system and try to use your firewire again. Look if the old modules are loaded instead of the new firewire-* ones. I dont understand why the new firewire-modules are used by default in the new kernel-packages. Refering to http://wiki.linux1394.org/JujuMigration … 857ee71b93 it is not recommended to use the new modules yet.

The problems that occur to me are following: I'm using EFM as file manager. It's not the best one, but it fits into the E17 concept - simple, lightweight, fast - and thats what I like. But, after the latest update, when I click a folder on my desktop, EFM now comes up in a stupid very tiny window. The window is so small, that I need to resize it every time to see any content. Before the update, everything worked fine, the EFM windows came up as they should.
Another problem I'm having with some applications, e.g. the Okular-Viewer, is that I'm not able to size down the window - it is always in full screen, and there's no chance to move it up (even not on the desktop preview widget) to move it down. Okular is always 100% filling my screen (over the height, only), and I'm not able to size it down. In the previous version, I didn't got this problems.
My question is now: is there any way to install the previous Enlightenment E17 packages? They where much better that this one... or will another update come out soon??

Have you tried starting with a clean config and the default theme, it helps sometimes after big code changes?
If that doesn't help...

If you find some mirror which keeps outdated packages that should not be a problem. Be sure to downgrade all of e17 packages (also some packages were deprecated and thus removed from the server during the last upgrade so you'd need to have those as well. You may still have those on your system though)
About a quick update, depends if Ican replicate it and if there is an easy fix. These things happen now and then with pre-alpha software when they do make major code changes. I try to test every update locally before putting it live but I of course can't test every single feature.

Problems using Itunes since last update (10.3.1.55)

I am experiencing problems trying to use itunes since it last updated and installed the latest version (10.3.1.55), a version which seems to be be really faulty if you look at the level of discussions it is generating.
My problems concern my library:
I used to be able to just click on a song to start it: now it won't. I have to either right click and select play 'x' or attempt the 'controls' button several times before its menu is willing to drop for me to select play
I used to be able to also move from one song to another also by clicking on it. Now I can't
I was also listening to a language programme and could not go back or even stop the listening function
the cover 'flow' (view mode) certainly does not flow any more. It is very judery and seems to have a life of its own!
Basically most functions perform poorly or not at all...
I have not attempted to sync with my Ipod as I am not sure whether there is a danger its content might "disappear"!
Either it is a case of someone out there has a brillant idea how to resolve this or Apple gets its act together and releases a better version pronto!

Due to the number of problems with "upgrading" to this OS level, I suggest you try the very clean and very forceful AutoLoader OS Reload:

Beware that it is completely destructive...the device will be "like new"...no data, no apps, no accounts, etc. Be sure you take a full backup first, as well as make full manual documentation of all apps, accounts, configurations, etc. Sometimes a restore reintroduces the very corruption one is trying to eliminate, and manual reconfiguration is necessary.
You can also use this to fall back to a prior OS if you desire...you can install any OS level for which you can find an AutoLoader. (Hint...search over on the CB site!)

Problems with Airplay since last IOS6 update?

Since the last IOS6 update my IPAD2 and IPOD 3rd gen have both lost the airplay icon. They were both working well with my Apple TV prior to update. My IPAD had to be restored following update also. Is anyone else experiencing the same kind of problems?

Problem with LiveChat since last Muse update

We have Livechat installed on our site through simply inserting code into the html head via page properties. Prior to the latest Muse update, we could see the Livechat window inside Muse in both design & preview mode. Now it does not appear at all, even when exporting to html on my desktop, the Livechat window does not show up on the site. The strange thing is from my Livechat control panel, I can see myself browsing the test site...but from the browser perspective, there is no Livechat option. I tried reinserting the code, but still no go. Any ideas? I'm worried if i take the site liveI would risk Livechat disappearing on my live site, so for now I have kept it just as a test site on my desktop.

Restart your mac
Safe Boot: Hold down the shift key after the chime until the Apple logo appears and the gear is moving.
It will take awhile but you will be asked to login.
Go to your Applications folder> Utilities and launch Disk Utility.
In the left side column, highlight your drive and repair permissions.( button down below)
Empty the trash.
Restart your mac.

Problems with Safari since IOS8 update

Since updating my iPad with IOS8, I cannot cut/paste using Safari. For example, if I want to copy a line from a website to my Facebook page, it gives the COPY prompt, but the copied material does not paste. It has not "copied" properly since before the update. Pls help.

Problem playing game since last update

Right after the last software update from Apple, I stopped being able to open Myst V. The game won't start at all. It took a long time to get the game installed on an intel Mac in the first place, because the Ubisoft patch has a bug and the directions for fixing it by hand were not easy to find. So I'm frustrated that now it stopped working again! I tried reinstalling the game (with the repaired patch), with no luck. Is anyone else having this problem? Any tips?

For starters, Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
Then Repair Permissions.

HT6207 Problems with computer since Security Update 2014-002?

My computer ran the new software update last night & since then nothing works! I can't open any apps or programs. Safari, Google Chrome, spotify, everything I try opening bounces forever & then crashes. Even native programs like Finder take forever to load. I'm guessing something went wrong with the update. I've restarted the computer hoping it was a fluke or didn't complete but nothing has changed. Is there a way to uninstall & reinstall the update? Can I fix it through disk utility or somewhere on my Mac? I'm using OSX 10.9.2 on an iMac. Help please!

I'd boot the recovery partition and use Disk Utility get a complete disk backup to an external device. Or two. Copy your entire disk contents to an external (scratch) storage device.
Then launch Console.app from Applications > Utilities and look for a repeating block of probably cryptic-looking messages being logged over and over again. Scrub any personally-identifying information and post one example of each (different) repeating block(s) you find. Keep these postings short, and please don't post repeats of the same repeating blocks. Preferably ~30 lines or less or — maybe — a hundred lines at most, if there are multiple (and fundamentally different) repeating blocks of messages. Please don't post huge blocks of messages.
Backing out the patch isn't feasible, unfortunately. I'd first try booting and using the recovery partition (not entirely sure if the 2011-vintage iMac is new enough for the recovery partition — if not, boot the installation DVD that came with the iMac), and — once you have a valid backup or two, and particularly a backup to external (scratch) storage — reinstalling OS X. Otherwise, you'll be rolling in your backups from prior to the update, or maybe reinstalling the OS X 10.9.2 combo update or (full path) reloading OS X (which is usually non-destructive, unless a disk wipe was requested). But a look at the messages would be the first step.

[solved] Problems with display after kernel update.

After using pacman -Syu and getting the newest kernel and Nvidia drivers I experience some major problems.
My Arch freezes when I try to run some apps. Firefox, konqueror and some others work fine, but when I type "glxinfo | grep direct" or try to execute something using wine the problems begin. Terminal doesn't return any errors (it doesn't get a chance to do so, freeze is instant).

I examined /etc/fonts/conf.avail and found 2 files
70-no-bitmaps.conf and
70-yes-bitmaps.conf
But the content of this files the same! Defined value was set to "false"
I delete "no" file and correct "yes" file

After this, Helvetica fonts became more likely

When I connect my MacBook Pro to my TV thank to the airplay to watch moovies I have static noise
This problem started yesterday when I downloaded the Yosemite update
What can I do to improve the sound ?
