[SOLVED] Quake Live on FireFox
Wanting to frag and get fragged, i tried quakelive.com: installation of the extension seemed to work fine and it has downloaded what it needed.
But here's a problem: i cannot enter any game, not even practice or training center, it just bails out on me.
It's Arch x86 with extra/KDE 4.5.3 and extra/firefox on a laptop.
Error from console is below:

How can it be? I mean, i went to the site, it didn't ask me if system was x86 or x86-64, and i installed the proposed extension...
I'm gonna remove and reinstall it.
EDIT: removed extension, restarted firefox, reinstalled extension, restarted firefox -> same as before
how can i get it to install the x86 extension version?
EDIT2: in the plugin dir, i renamed the x64 plugin and created a soft link to the i386 one.

[SOLVED] Quake Live AUR Package 64 bit support
I juts found this quakelive package on AUR: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43938
I tried it, but it said no x86_64 support.
Then, I tried this patch, but I still get this:
david@davidarch:~/pkg/quakelive$ makepkg -si

I also read on the AUR comments that if I change the checksum it's possible to install it:
I have 64bit up and running but i had to change the checksum to fa54d8f7e7be7c7f04cbc52cf3e693ff. (Made the checksum out of the downloaded file, i know, not a good idea, but it works)
Maybe new version?
thanks

I just don't know how to do what this guy did... Any ideas? Thank you very much!

Oh thank you, that was it -
Hi fellow archers,
I have a problem with quake live (www.quakelive.com). When I login, the plugin loads and then I get a connection error.
We're sorry, but it appears you are having problems connecting to the QUAKE LIVE network. If you are behind a firewall you must make sure that it permits the following connection:
Protocol: TCP
Host: xmpp.quakelive.com
Port: 5222
The port is open on my hardware firewalls, and I don't have a software firewall installed. I can play quake live from both ubuntu and windows 7, which use the same local IP address.
Firefox outputs the following:
$ firefox
CONNECT_THROTTLE - Connect()
CONNECT_THROTTLE - Connect()
I tried to remove the plugin and installed data (~/.quakelive and the plugin in the ~/.mozilla folder) serveral times, but it doesn't fix the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advanceloafer wrote:
@655321, your problem is different. Quake Live plugin still uses libpng 1.2. There are aur packages for libpng 1.2.
Sorry Silverwing but I do not know what could be causing your problem.
You are totally right, firefox output shows an error concerning libpng, will try it out and come back with results!
Firefox spams this warning while trying to load game:
libpng warning: Application was compiled with png.h from libpng-1.2.24
libpng warning: Application is running with png.c from libpng-1.4.3
libpng warning: Incompatible libpng version in application and library
However, the following libpng packages appears installed on my system:
extra/libpng 1.4.3-1
A collection of routines used to create PNG format graphics files
local/libpng12 1.2.44-1
A collection of routines used to create PNG format graphics files
So i already have libpng 1.2, the problem still lies in the libpng version I think, (Ihave 1.2.44 and quake live needs 1.2.24). I cant find the AUR for this package but nothing shows or its under a different name, can you point out which one is the correct package to install?
pacman -Ss outputs this:
extra/libpng 1.4.3-1 [installed]
A collection of routines used to create PNG format graphics files
multilib/lib32-libpng 1.4.3-3 [installed]
A collection of routines used to create PNG format graphics files
(32-bit)
aur/devkitppc-portlibs-libpng 1.4.1-1 (1)

aur/k3d-libpng.patch 0.8.0.1-1 (0)
k-3d is a complete free-as-in-freedom 3D modeling, animation and
rendering system.
aur/lib32-libpng12 1.2.44-1 (271)
A collection of routines used to create PNG format graphics files

aur/libpng12 1.2.44-1 [installed] (1677)

aur/mingw32-libpng 1.4.3-2 (30)

EDIT: In case this version is not available on the AUR I can write the PKGBUILD (never done it but I would like to learn ) in order to help other peple. That version is available under the libpng-stable tree here:

[SOLVED] Refresh rate, nvidia and Quake Live
I need help setting my monitor to 120HZ for 640*480, i have no idea how to do this using xorg.conf or nvidia-settings... nvidia-settings only shows as high as 85hz for this resolution. I'm not gonna be mean and say how simple doing this is in windows(guess i just did) Sorry ^^.
I'm using a ViewSonic E70 17" CRT monitor and a Geforce4 mx420 with the nvidia-96xx proprietary driver from the repos.
I really need 640*480 to get to 120 hz, should be simple enough!
Thanks!

If you look at the Nvidia docs it says in there somewhere why each monitor has a "unique" refresh rate. It boils down to X is too stupid to do real dual monitors. As a result, Nvidia presents to X two "separate" monitors; it differentiates them to X by using different refresh rates...thus you cannot (and should not even try) to set the monitors to use the same refresh rate.
I'd suggest using nvidia-utils or nvidia-setup (not sure of the name but it will autocomplete on the command line if you just type "nvidia-") to set up twinview or separate X sessions or whatever you want. It's easy to use and will even write an xorg.conf for you. Failing that, look at randr on the wiki.
i did nvidia-xconfig. and also activated the vsync in nvidia-settings. But no luck. Also when i chose seperate X in nvidia-settings my arch freezes. I am going to do a refresh install. -
Firefox is my default browser and since the most recent Firefox update I have been unable to click through links I receive from Windows Live Email to the Firefox browser, but it works if my browser is set to IE9?? I have checked the defaults settings and both are fine, so Any explanations or ideas on how to solve this?
Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
Restart the router. Many problems are solved that way.
Step 2
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
Step 3
Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
Step 4
Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
Step 5
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
Potential sources of interference
Step 6
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
Step 7
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC). -
[SOLVED]Java Plugin in Firefox 4 - no sound, pls hlp, tnx
Hi!
Okay, I hope this question belong here. I have FireFox 4, and JRE 6_25, and G3 (dunnow if that's the problem). As described in the docs, I'm supposed to make a symlink to the plugin. The about : plugins keeps reporting File: libnpjp2.so as file, not the plugin I need.
I just reinstalled 6_21 (the one I know works) and have successfully made a symlink, but FireFox refuses to accept the link.
Applets do not have sound - tested with RuneScape and the Bells applet, no sound, but there is the music in RuneScape...
What manual do I read?
Thanks for some tips.
Thor
(by the way: in case you're wondering: yes, I did sniff tru the forum and did not find the answer...)
Edit - considering a cold-turkey re-install, there's too much breakage...Firefox that broke Eclipse (Xulrunner issues), Gnome3 that made the system less usuable (fall back only, here), VLC that takes the whole system down to the grave, and now JRE without sound.
What's left of the system?
After the update, things went into the fog...I read that the OSS emulations are not/no longer loaded by default. Does an Applet need these? If so, that could be the option: adding that into rc.conf...
Please consider a reply, thanks.
Last edited by Thor@Flanders (2011-05-30 18:45:15)Hi,
First of, to all that "came by" to read this post: thanks.
The solution is:
modprobe snd_pcm_oss
as Root, this line needs to be in /etc/rc.conf.
What lead me to this is the documentation and a line in pacman.log
OSS emulation modules are not loaded by default, add to rc.conf if needed.
I would very much like to mark this as solved...
Thanks.

[SOLVED] Font glitches in Firefox
I'm using Firefox, infinality-bundle, xf86-video-ati for a Radeon HD 7770 card, and the i3 window manager.
I have an odd problem where some letters in a web page will be displayed as junk. The glitches are uncommon. It may be 1/10 pages I visit, and one character glitch per page. If I change focus from Firefox it will correct the glitches, which is why I can't post a screen capture.
I haven't tried to reproduce in Chromium yet.
Any ideas?
Last edited by mixer (2013-09-12 02:56:13)Had the same problem and I solved it with creating a Xorg config file for the Radeon graphics card. The problem appears to be in the EXAPixmaps option, turning it off solved my problem. Paste the following text into a file named /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-radeon.conf as root, using your favorite text editor:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Radeon"
Driver "radeon"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" #valid options are XAA, EXA and Glamor. EXA is the default.
Option "EnablePageFlip" "on" #supported on all R/RV/RS4xx and older hardware and set off by default
Option "EXAVSync" "on" #default is off, otherwise on. Only works if EXA activated
Option "EXAPixmaps" "off" #when on icreases 2D performance, but may also cause artifacts on some old cards. Only works if EXA activated
Option "ColorTiling" "on" #enabled by default on RV300 and later radeon cards.
Option "AccelDFS" "on" #default is off, read the radeon manpage for more information
Option "RenderAccel" "on" #enabled by default on all radeon hardware
EndSection
Afterwards, exit i3 and make sure you exit from the Xorg server and end up in the shell command line, then start i3 (startx). Or log out and log in using your display manager (lightdm etc.) The problem should be solved. -
How can I keep my bookmarks updated live in Firefox & Chrome on the same PC?
I use both Firefox & Chrome on my notebook. I have a huge number of bookmarks set up & up until now I have to export/import my bookmarks between Firefox & Chrome on the same notebook on a regular basis to ensure that any updates or changes I make when using Chrome or Firefox are updated. This is very time consuming & means that either one or the other (FF or Chr.) are never truly synchronised or up to date.
Is there an easy way to ensure that any changes I make when using FF or Chr. are updated on a "live" or real time basis?
FYI - I do not wish to "sync" this data to any other hardware. You can use Xmarks to synchronize bookmarks between Firefox and Chrome on the same PC. <br />

The problem is in crash reporting in 3.6. More info on
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins#Disabling_crash_protection
type about:config and change value from true into false for all dom.ipc.plugins values starting from this
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled;false
after that change value from 45 into -1 in
dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs
Problem solved. Thanks for the feedback!

Actually firefox keeps crashing when I enter this. Bummer..

After installing Firefox 4 Beta my graphics card keept crashing on my laptop. After looking at the reliability report on the laptop i noticed that a key event that happend shortly before the video crashing began was that i installed Firefox 4 Beta. From this i uninstalled Firefox 4 Beta and went back to Firefox 3.6. My laptop has not had a video crash since then.

why is it marked as SOLVED,
I have this same issue since last night when i updated my system...
Do you know any information? -
I had left my computer on when I went to dinner and both internet explorer and firefox browsers were on. When I returned, the screen said that I had been "infected" and a variety of trojan horses and other problems were breaking into my computer and my personal data were at risk. It insists that I buy a program called Vista Anti-virus 2011 to fix the problem and prevent future problems. A search on another computer suggests that this software itself is very malicious. I want to get rid of the infection but don't know how. Can you help?

This did not happen before I upgraded and does not happen with either Chrome or IE. I am using Windows 7 operating system.
