[Solved] QuakeLive is lagging .. hugely

Okay, so I am experiencing this weird FPS drop in QuakeLive.
In the beginning, I had a GeForce 6800 GT, which was running QuakeLive just fine, it then got fried, and I ran on onboard for a while. I have now however required a GTX 460, and QL is starting to lag, Badly. It even ran better on the onboard card.
I have a 2.2ghz Dualcore Intel processor, and 4Gigs of ram (although currently only 3 availabe because of i686 architecture). And of course my GTX 460 Graphics card.
The weird thing is, every other game are running just fine, no fps drops at all.
I tried lowering the graphics in QL as much as I could, but it didnt help either, and shouldn't be the cause of the problem either.
I have also tried QLPrism which is a mozilla based browser that is focused entirely on QuakeLive, no luck there either.
Help me out here guys, I really don't know what else to do.

Alright, It's not really "solved" - but I formatted my PC, and moved from i686 to x64, about time anyway. But anyway it's working fine now (duh).

  • Photoshop cs6 lags on macbook pro retina 15'

    Recently I got my hands on photoshop cs6 but my brush lags quite a bit while using it. This happens when I'm zooming in to do minor details or if I'm using a brush more than 200
    I've heard good things about design production on macbooks but so far I've seen the opposite. Is there anyway to solve the brush lag problem from Apple's end?

    I am using a student version which is running atm on a windows 7 64 bit macbook pro retina 15. The best thing i can try doing is downgrade to CS5. Though i'm positively sure if I installed photoshop less than a few weeks ago, it would be at the latest...

  • Lag changing songs

    I have a problem with the ipod function on my iphone after upgrading to OS 3.0. Basically it lags hugely when trying to choose the next song. The music changes after about 4 seconds but the artwork of the previous song stays for about 30 seconds. I have tried force quitting and also resetting but neither seems to ahve any effect. It does it when playing through the speaker or through headphones/ aux jack.
    Any ideas please? Would a restore be a good idea? If so what data will I use if I do a back up just before doing it?
    Thanks

    1) Does restarting the iPhone resolve the issue? *No, the problem persists after restart.*
    2) How many songs are on the iPhone? 1,452
    3) How are the songs organized on the iPhone? Are you playing them from a playlist, album, or complete song list? *The problem occurs when playing from a playlist (any of them). The problem does not seem to occur when playing from album or song mode, only from a playlist.*
    4) Is the iPhone in shuffle mode when the issue occurs?
    5) Are the songs being played back from a playlist while in shuffle mode when the issue occurs?
    *Having shuffle on seems to make it worse and make it occur sooner. With shuffle on, the problem occurs immediately. With shuffle off, I can get through 6 or 7 songs without problems, but after that the lag occurs.*
    +In summary, the lag problem occurs only when playing from a playlist and occurs to varying degress whether or not it is being played in shuffle mode.+
    Thanks.

  • How to measure slow disk i/o impact on video graphics performance???

    The problem is when an application runs in fullscreen with a high FPS and still shows lag/stutter issues in graphics ...
    Windows 7 doesn`t seem to have any tools that report of stuck disk i/o traffic and neither does the graphic card controls (nvidia). The missing information seem to be:
    1) Whether it is because of a slow drive (fx. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF-SBypQBuw); (Solution: buy a faster drive)
    2) Whether it is because of other programs using the same disk - fx. windows pagefile(?); (Solution: move the app to another drive)
    3) Or whether it is because of a layer program - fx like Sandboxie that redirects filesearch etc.; (Solution: run the app outside the layer)
    Is it really necessary to buy and install and configure a new harddrive and then install the app on this drive uncertain of results just to compare to try solving some graphics lag because of disk i/o issues?

    1) the Windows performance index gives a view of the hardware's expected performance the subscores for harddrive tests should allow you to determine if your harddisk is 'slow'
    2) Resource monitor can help to identify processes that have a lot of IO. Most important measurement will be teh disk queue length. To get even more detailed information, you could use perfmon.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2012/02/07/measuring-disk-latency-with-windows-performance-monitor-perfmon.aspx
    3) virtualisation and/or sandboxing always has a performance impact. You should check with the software vendor how to check for/test the performance impact the application has.
    no, it is not neccasary to buy hardware or software to identify a performance issue. note that in some cases is might be easier/cheaper to buy some new hardware of which you are sure it will meet all requirements.
    PS: consider purchasing an SSD if yous suspect IO issues and are willing to spend some: it will be your best hardwareupgarde you did over the last 10 years!!!

    Okay, so I am NOT the most tech-savvy girl so please excuse me if I'm sounding really stupid... I have a mac book pro (2 years old). I like to download podcasts on my iphone and I guess they then sync via iTunes cos they appear on my mac book pro as well. BUT recently one pattern making podcast (I'm a student fashion designer), has shown up in my gmail menu under RSS feeds, I'm not sure how long it's been there but I clicked on it a few days ago and since then my gmail is totally stuffed! When I say stuffed I mean: the whole of my gmail on MBP is frozen with the spinning beach ball of death on the open patternmaking podcast/RSS feed window I tried to open- although there is no images or anything it's just frozen before it downloaded anything. I can force quit and then use the rest of my MBP fairly ok, although it does seem slower- and I didn't have time to deal with it as I've had to write a 5000 word essay to be handed in tomorrow so I just completed that & now I can deal with it since that's all done. But if I open mail back up its still frozen on that RSS podcast thing I opened and while it's opened my ENTIRE computer is affected- it just lags (HUGELY) as in safari won't load properly, when I try to open file/edit/tools or anything on the top bar menu it takes like 10 minutes to pop down n then 5 minutes to acknowledge my command. I've just turned my MBP off right now to write this on my iphone I turned it off by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
    I desperately need this mac for uni as I study online and the $11000 programs I bought only work on mac.(as in the software that enables you to do the course is sent to you based on your type of computer)  I'm terrified. Can someone please help me? In laymans terms lol I don't care if I lose ALL my emails as I have them on my iPad & iPhones so no biggy ill do whatever I have to just to fix this issue.
    Thank you so much in advance;)
    Olivia Preston :)

    Hi Olivia,
    Go to Safari menu > Preferences > RSS and uncheck all the boxes, Check for updates: Never, Mark articles as read: After clicking them, Remove articles: after one day, and Remove now. See if that does the trick.

  • P1606dn prints when connected wired but not when wireless

    Hi
    I have setup above printer as a network printer connected to a wireless router and 2-4 computer. Only the computer that is directly connected to the router by wire will print. All others can see the printer through wireless connection but printjobs stay in queue. I have removed the tick from the birectional printing, have stopped and restarted the sppoler and restarted the wirelss computer, but the printjobs stay in the queue until I manually remove them from the queue.
    I am at wits end, and do not know what to try to get this printer work on the other cimputers.
    Any advisae that may solve this problem is hugely appreciated.

    Sorry that you are having problems with wireless printing. You can run the print and scan doctor and check the results.

  • Groups having non-overlapping intervals

    Hi there,
    I need help on some mind boggling overlap problem, or perhaps non-overlap problem.
    Having the sample data below, I need to put together subcodes in groups having non-overlapping
    intervals [MIN_VAL;MAX_VAL[
    I have this table:
    SQL>create table t (product   varchar2(1) not null
      2                 ,subcode   number(1)   not null, constraint subcode_chk check (subcode >= 0)
      3                 ,min_val   number(2)   not null, constraint min_val_chk check (min_val >= 0)
      4                 ,max_val   number(2)   not null, constraint max_val_chk check (max_val >= 0)
      5                 ,constraint t_pk primary key (product, subcode)
      6                 ,constraint t_val_chk check (min_val < max_val));
    Table created.
    SQL>
    SQL>insert into t (product, subcode, min_val, max_val) values ('A', 0, 0, 99);
    1 row created.
    SQL>insert into t (product, subcode, min_val, max_val) values ('A', 1, 0, 99);
    1 row created.
    SQL>insert into t (product, subcode, min_val, max_val) values ('A', 2, 18, 67);
    1 row created.
    SQL>insert into t (product, subcode, min_val, max_val) values ('A', 3, 20, 65);
    1 row created.
    SQL>insert into t (product, subcode, min_val, max_val) values ('A', 4, 0, 99);
    1 row created.
    SQL>insert into t (product, subcode, min_val, max_val) values ('A', 5, 45, 60);
    1 row created.

    - Changed line 15 in hierarchial query

    Brillant as always, Frank. Ten points and mange tak for you.
    (1) What is your concept of "group" in this problem? In what sense do subcodes 5, 6 and 8 form a group? Is it that they share the quality of not overlapping with some other row with the same product? That is, will there be at most two groups per product: rows that overlap with every other row, and rows that don't?By group I mean, that when isolated from other subcodes, a group does not overlap. For product A, I have 10 different subcodes. In certain situations I'm allowed to consider 5,6 and 8 as one, since they don't overlap. In general the data presented results in 8 groups, 7 groups having 1 subcode, 1 group having 3 subcodes.
    (2) What you mean by "mutually disclosing"? Is it that the min_val to max_val ranges do not overlap?Yes. They are however allowed to be equal.
    As to your query. Seems you're right, it might actually be that "simple". I changed slightly, allowing >= and <=
    SQL> SELECT m.*,
      2         CASE
      3            WHEN
      4            EXISTS (
      5                     SELECT  NULL
      6                     FROM    t
      7                     WHERE   product = m.product
      8                     AND     (       min_val >= m.max_val
      9                             OR      max_val <= m.min_val
    10                             )
    11                   )
    12         THEN 1 END group_flag
    13    FROM t m;
    PRODUCT    SUBCODE    MIN_VAL    MAX_VAL GROUP_FLAG
    A                0          0         99
    A                1          0         99
    A                2         18         67
    A                3         20         65
    A                4          0         99
    A                5         45         60          1
    A                6         20         40          1
    A                7          0         99
    A                8         60         65          1
    A                9          0         99
    10 rows selected.
    SQL>
    This assumes that min_val <= max_val on each row.Your assumption is perfectly correct, as expessed in check constraint on table t.
    >
    The rest of this message concerns the CONNECT BY query you posted, in case you want to understand it better.
    When I run the CONNECT BY query you posted, I get these results:
    P    SUBCODE    MIN_VAL    MAX_VAL
    A          0          0         99
    A          1          0         99
    A          4          0         99
    A          5         45         60
    A          6         20         40
    A          7          0         99
    A          8         60         65
    A          9          0         99
    Ouch, my bad. Somehow I posted the wrong query. I have edited line 15 from
      15                    min_val >= prior min_valinto
      15                    min_val > prior min_val
    The START WITH clause includes all rows: you might as well not have a START WITH clause:
    10  start with -- This, start with, seems "clumpsy"
    11            min_val in (  select min_val
    12                            from t
    13                        group by product, subcode, min_val)
    That's great, somehow I was misled to believe that wew should always have a START WITH.
    Thank you for your remainding comments on hierarchial query. I'll definitely have to play around with it to fully understand. With the edit mentioned, and
    without a START WITH it now looks as,
    SQL>  select distinct -- This, distinct, bothers me!
      2                       product
      3                      ,subcode
      4                      ,min_val
      5                      ,max_val
      6         from t
      7        where connect_by_isleaf = 1 -- Why does this help me?
      8   connect by nocycle -- This, nocycle, really bothers me!
      9                      min_val > prior min_val
    10                  and max_val <= prior max_val
    11                  and product = prior product
    12                  and subcode <> prior subcode  -- Not necessary
    13     order by product
    14             ,subcode
    15             ,min_val
    16             ,max_val;
    PRODUCT    SUBCODE    MIN_VAL    MAX_VAL
    A                5         45         60
    A                6         20         40
    A                8         60         65
    3 rows selected.
    SQL>One final question. In your solution with EXISTS, you use < and >. In my rewritten example I use <= and >=. It seems that it still works, even without a condition on subcode != m.subcode in the subquery.
    Maybe I'm too tired by now, but why is that? - just don't get it

  • New topic on old problem - MacBook Pro Late'08 + Vista x64 Freeze

    Hi All,
    I read many topics on freezes and have not found the solution. People are re-installing WiFi drivers and are solving problem with lags for audio.
    I've Vista x64 SP1 installed + Bootcamp + multitouch drivers from Apple.
    When I use Standard VGA drivers - system works well (not 1-2 hours, but as much as I need - up to 2 days uptime). But when I use ANY nVidia driver (modded or no) I could get freeze after 30 minutes or after 3 hours.
    But I'm missing Aero + stand-by features.
    So - had anybody found nVidia driver that is not crashing system?
    As I understand WiFi driver is working well, because with standard video driver there are no crashes/freezes at all.

    Download the latest official driver from NVidia and use an application called RIVATUNER to force a fixed performance level of "low-power 3D".
    That keeps the NVidia driver from switching clock-rates and voltages dynamically and thus prevents three problems:
    1. Constantly changing voltages and thus power-draw from the battery/PSU and mainboard components. This should help stability.
    2. Audio dropouts (and likely other drivers and processes dropouts as well) due to extreme DPC spikes whenever clock-rates are switched.
    3. Possible audio dropouts (and likely other drivers and processes dropouts as well) due to too low GPU memory clock-rates in 2D mode.
    Just to clarify that, even when you are only working in 2D the NVidia drivers keeps switching performance-levels/clock-rates up and down according to what it thinks is necessary. Sometimes just opening a web-page with video content can lead to the GPU switching to performance-3D (maximum voltage and heat) just to have it clock down over several steps again (each time producing a huge DPC Latency spike).
    The Microsoft Standard VGA Driver runs at constant clock-rates, thus it's less susceptible to stability and performance problems.
    I am using a Latebook 2.8 Ghz with Vista 64 myself here. Can you give any hints on how to reproduce a freeze (like any specific load/software)?

  • Mail application, Silverkeeper and Lacie Firewire external drive

    I have the following set-up:
    G5 PPC iMac
    OS X (10.4.11)
    Lacie Firewire 250Gb external hard disk
    Silverkeeper 1.1.4
    I have used this software many times and it has worked perfectly, flawlessly even, EXCEPT for one issue.
    When I am at home I back up my Mac HD regularly to the Lacie. I also always do this just before I travel.
    When I travel, I take the Lacie HD (and cables) with me, connect it to whatever PPC Mac is available, select the Lacie drive as my start-up disk, and then use it as if it were my G5 at home.
    When I return home, I reconnect the Lacie to the G5 and back-up from the G5 (Source) to the Lacie (Destination) using Silverkeeper with the following option selected:
    Preferences/Backup Actions/IF A FILE HAS A NEWER DATE ON THE DESTINATION COPY TO SOURCE
    However, the selection of this option fails to copy any of the e-mail I have sent or received using the (Mac) Mail application from the Lacie drive to the G5. For each e-mail I have sent or received, I get this:
    +The message from XXX <[email protected]> concerning “RE: ZZZ” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download i+t.
    This message is in the right e-mail box, but there is no header or field information of any kind, never mind any text in the body of the message.
    I have no idea what this message means. The Mail application on my G5 iMac (and its 'mirror' on the Lacie drive) is set up to retrieve and send mail through POP and SMTP accounts and does not work with webmail. Furthermore, the Mail application checks for and sends e-mail automatically at fixed pre-programmed intervals according to its configuration.
    What therefore does '..+.has not been downloaded from the serv+er.' mean. What server?
    And what does '+You need to take this account online in order to download it+.' mean? I have to be on-line in order to send and receive e-mail in the first place, and the Mail application works perfectly when running on the Lacie drive. The e-mails all APPEARED in their correct mailboxes in Mail on the Lacie drive. Silverkeeper simply fails to back up sent and received e-mails from the Lacie drive to the G5 HD. Also, if I now (after having copied from source to destination as above) make the Lacie drive the start-up disk, the e-mails sent and received on my travels are no longer in their mailboxes, but have instead been replaced with the messages identical to that in italics given above.
    Any help in solving this would be hugely appreciated. I have already lost quite a few e-mails and hope not to lose more.
    Many thanks.
    I appreciate that it is possible to configure the Mail app. to leave e-mails on the server for a month after first downloading them to Mail, or to remove them from the server only when they are removed from the Inbox, but I suspect that would drive me mad. Also I have rules and filters set up to send the incoming mails to customised mailboxes that are not in the Inbox, so that second option might equate to immediate removal from the server.

    Seems Silver Keeper no longer keeps up, let me sugest..

  • IOS5 slow and unstable on iPhone 4

    It feels like iOS 4 on the 3G all over again, but after installing iOS5 on my iPhone 4 (Verizon) on Friday I've definitely noticed slowdowns in responsiveness and some application hangs. For example, the camera app hung several times and the Netflix app would often get stuck on buffering a new video until closed and re-opened. These all happened multiple times.
    Oh well, time for the 4S I guess ;-)

    Hey everyone, was the same for me until 2days ago. However I booked an appointment at a genius bar at the Sydney apple store and 20minutes later walked out a happy man. The first question staff asked was "did I download the iOS5 over wifi?" and I replied with a "yes!". She explained that for some reason they found that downloading over wifi corrupts some of the files and this is what causes the pain we've all been experiencing. Before going to apple I scoured the web for answers, but all suggestions about turning everything off was useless but restoring my iPhone 4 with a stable iOS5 from the Apple store fixed all of the above we've been complaining about! So solution go to your nearest apple store and get them to restore your device with the stable OS they have! A new restore atleast from the genius bar solved all battery, lag, apps shutting down etc etc problems! If you do go to the apple store make sure you back everything up before, even if you don't they'll offer to back-up, up to 5gb in the cloud, but this might not be enough for all. Make sure you advise you're friends who havent taken the leap yet to download via cable and NOT wi-fi!! Hope this solves everyone's woes like it did mine; good luck!

    Hi,
    I've a problem since a few days with my MBP retina (11/2013): when I scroll, on Safari or Word or even between two desktops, etc, my screen totally lag.
    It makes me the same when I open an application since the deck, and for every movement on my screen. The only one movement who remain fluent is the opening of the Launchpad (F4 button).
    It appears before the Mavericks update 2014-002 and the update didn't change anything...
    I've a 8Go RAM version and I just installed a few little applications, so I'm really surprised and dissapointed.
    Thanks for your help !
