[Solved] Realtek RTL8188SU wireless USB - not listed in ifconfig
The built-in wireless adaptor (based on ath5k) of my Acer Aspire One is really flaky (disappears completely after anywhere between 30 seconds and an hour), so I decided to buy a USB wireless-N adaptor, to get some stability and take advantage of my wireless-N router. After plugging it in and booting, it wasn't listed. This was due to the custom kernel I use (kernel-netbook, from the AUR) not having it compiled. So I recompiled it, selecting all the Realtek entries as modules. I rebooted into the new kernel, but still it wasn't discovered. I've tried using modprobe to load the drivers in (one by one, as the RTL8188SU doesn't actually have a driver by it's name, so I tried all the Realtek ones, rebooting in between), but still no luck - it's still not appearing under ifconfig.
I'm pretty noob when it comes to troubleshooting, but I'm learning. Just need a few pointers
What do I have to do to get it to appear in ifconfig? Do I have to blacklist my ath5k (can't see why, it's possible to have more than one wireless adaptor, surely??)
Edit: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dow … =true#2282
If I understand this correctly, the driver isn't in the kernel and I need to download this??

Ok, just found out from the Debian wiki (http://wiki.debian.org/rtl819x), that the r8192s_usb driver was superseeded and removed from kernel 2.6.37 (whether this is Debian specific, I'm not sure) - I'm running 2.6.39, so it's not in my kernel. It's apparently been replaced by r8712u, which should be in the kernel, so I'm confused why I'm still having trouble? Would the command be "modprobe r8712u", or something different?
Edit: Ok, according to this - http://www.archlinux.org/packages/core/ … -firmware/ - the driver is included in this package, which I installed a couple of days ago. It's listed as "lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin", so.......how do I get it working?

[Solved] Realtek RTL8188SU chip - unstable wifi
Hi All,
I have a wireless usb dongle using the above chip. lsusb says:
Belkin Components F7D1101 v1 Basic Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188SU]
The wifi speed is very unstable (at the beginning of downloading each file, the speed is about 300KB/s, then goes down, down and down to 0). I'm sure that it's not because of my router. Does anybody know how to find where my problem is?
Thank you.
Edit: I would like to thank Xyne a lot. My wireless usb dongle doesn't mention about rtl8192 but he asked me to search for it in the forums and then I found this thread. The solution that works for me is changing the channel. I cannot express how I love the Arch community :-)
Last edited by dxxvi (2013-10-21 16:07:57)Search for "rtl8192" on the forum (link at the top left). There are numerous threads concerning the consistently poor performance of Realtek wifi cards. You will find instructions for changing some of the power management options which may reduce the rate of dropped connections, but they will keep dropping and speed will remain inconsistent and embarrassingly slow.
You can check which kernel modules your card is using with
lsmod | grep rtl
If you see rtl8192ce in that list, curse your vendor and head out to buy a new dongle. Of course, if your card is using something other than rtl8192* then maybe tweaking the module options will actually lead to decent performance. -

Hi,
Firstly the monior ONLY has VGA connection:
VGA 15-pin D-type connector
How do you connect it to your computer ? It does not have USB port how do you connect USB with blue light to the monitor ?
Regards.

[mostly solved]RaLink RT2860 wireless NIC not working, in eeePC 1000HE
I'm having trouble getting my wireless NIC to work.
I have a clean, up-to-date system, no [testing]. I'm using the stock kernel, 2.6.30, which according to the 1000HE wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Asu … 000HE#WiFi), is supposed to work out of the box.
The problem I run into with iwconfig is that it doesn't set an essid. The essid shows as blank, then I run:
iwconfig ra0 essid "my id"
and iwconfig ra0 again shows a blank essid.
I've tried wpa_supplicant, and it just spams CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-RESULTS indefinitely (my config file is attached).
I've tried wifi radar, and it gives me errors about the network I'm trying to connect to having no AP address.
I've only tried to connect to the one network here that I have access to. It's an unsecured university network with many APs (I think it's called roaming or something?). Once you have an IP leased, you try to go to a website and are automatically forwarded to an authentication login page.
I've attached the output from a bunch of different commands:

A module should never require files in /etc/, but they don't care. The file contains settings, ranging from packet thresholds to country selection. There is a readme file in the archive, you can change some interesting things in there, i.e. auto roaming.
The staging drivers included in the kernel have this settings file included in the module, but there have been problems with this in 2.6.30, among others, the included drivers for RT2870-based hardware, for example, can render your system unusable.
Sadly, there doesn't seem to be much effort on the side of Linux community either. Maybe it's because all the devs interested in this already bought one of earlier EEEs with an Atheros chipset.
I've got one of these cards and it works fine. I'm running 2.6.31.
I use a wpa_supplicant based connection. I suggest that you do the same, the config file is crap and it doesn't appear to accept iwconfig input.
For netcfg and this card, try netcfg 2.5 which will be out in the next 24 hours. In the meantime, you could configure your networks in a wpa_supplicant config file. Don't use a catch all like above, create a more specific one. -
On other previous editions of Photoshop I could order the scanner to scan using "file", then "Import" on other versions, my scanner was listed. The scanner I have now is a wireless, does that make any difference. As I see it must be linked in some way. How do I do that? I am using PSE12.
Have you installed the TWAIN driver?

[SOLVED (mysteriously)] Arch on USB not recognized during boot
Hi there,
I hope, someone can help me with my problem, I have been searching and trying different things for quite some time now, without success.
I treated myself a new Notebook, Acer Aspire S7 and wanted to run Arch on it. However I am new to Linux and want to try it out on an USB-Stick, to keep the factory install of Win8 intact. (Also, this notebook does not have such a great HDD capacity) Additionally I want to have full disk encryption.
So I followed the Beginner's Guide with modifications described here and here
When it came to install the bootloader I chose Grub for EFI.
I then removed the USB-Stick with the live-Arch, which I used for installation and rebooted and it worked!
However: As soon as I completely shut down and boot again, the USB-Stick with my installation is no longer recognized. If i boot the live-Arch again, reinstall Grub and then reboot, it again works.
Here is something, I found strange. This is the output of efibootmgr:
BootCurrent: 0000
Timeout: 0 seconds
BootOrder: 2001,0003,0002,2002,2003
Boot0000* USB HDD: KingstonDataTraveler 2.0
Boot0001* Intel HDD0
Boot0002* Windows Boot Manager
Boot0003* arch_grub
Boot2001* EFI USB Device
Boot2002* EFI DVD/CDROM
Boot2003* EFI Network
BootCurrent is 0000, but that number does not appear in the Boot-Order list. Could that be something?
Well, I hope someone has an idea. I will happily share any information about my setup with you, just ask.
Thanks,
Max
Last edited by MaxT (2014-04-07 08:35:20)Sorry for digging that threat up again. I just wanted to share with you the solution to the problem I was having. Perhaps it will save someone else some frustration.
The Acer Aspire S7 has a dongle that goes in the display port and provides an ethernet and an VGA port. It was that dongle that prevented the USB stick with the Arch installation from being recognized. Done attached -> USB stick was ignored, dongle detached -> it worked.
I have no idea, why that is the case, but maybe this info is helpful for someone.
Cheers,
Max -

[solved]installed chromium-no icon, not listed in menu

After I updates ITunes to the latest version (12), ITunes wont find my iphone and Ipad anymore, after searching I found that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed anymore, on the support website of Apple it doesnt explain how to solve this,.
I use Windows 8.1 and so now also ITunes 12, both my Iphone 4S and Ipad Air have the latest IOS version.
I hope anybody can tell me how to solve this that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is back, thank youFound a possible solution for me.
While the phone was plugged into my computer and iTunes is CLOSED.
1. I went to Services in Windows.
2. I selected Apple Mobile Device and right clicked and selected "Stop".
3. Then I right-clicked again and selected "Start".
4. Then I went to Device Manager and right clicked my iPhone with the yellow alert icon and selected "Uninstall". You will get a warning about uninstalling the device. Click OK.
5. At the top of Device Manager I clicked the Action menu and selected "Scan for Hardware Changes".
This re-installed the iPhone and everything started working again. -
Sierra Wireless USB card will not connect
I have purchased a Sierra Wireless USB card (AT&T USB Connect 881) to use with a iBook G4. The green power lites are solid green. However, I can not get a signal from AT&T. No one has been able to help solve this problem. I am ready to return it to AT&T for a refund.
Thx for ur reply. I just checked the model of the USB adapter is Belkin Basic N150.
The xp is able to see and identify the iphone wireless network and shows it in available networks with full signal strength. Once I click on connect then an alert message says that it is detecting network type pls wait. Then another message appears stating that "selected network may be no longer in range. Pls refresh the list and connect again"
As suggested by you I will try it on windows 7. -
Photosmart 7515 connect via USB but not wireless, Device not found on Network
Purchased a 7515 all-in-one, was able to setup wirelessly to MacPro but has lost ability to connect wirelessly. This happened with OS X Lion and nor MountainLion. Have a TimeMachine Airport. Printer connects to network but during setup from MacPro, repeatedly get "Device Not Found on Network" after stepping through wireless installation setup screens. I have reset router, printer, firmware updates, software updates.... at wits end. I have followed the instructions on the below resource page link with no luck. Use WPA-PSK encryption (Automatic AES or TKIP) on network and diagnostics on printer pass.
Please help anyone!
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02946597&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...It sounds like the Macs and the printer just aren't communicating.
If you press the network icon on the printer, does it indicate it is connected to the network?
I recommend two additional steps that are not listed in the linked document. The printing system of the Mac may need to be reset as it will clear any software that could be interfering (such as corrupted installations).
Follow the steps as outlined for 10.7 or 10.8 in this document from HP.
The next step is to install the driver package from Apple. This can be found here.

Our HP 1150us g7 has stopped recognizing our dual USB 2.0 Port. It is not listed to uninstall or update its' drivers. Only the one USB port works on the right side facing the notebook.
It is only 21 days out of warranty and I am told they can be replaced however it takes a huge amount of labor, then someone else told us it can not be exchanged only the entire Motherboard. I have found the exact part on sale so I believe it is replaceable.
Here is a link to order the part we believe can be replaced.
http://www.machinaelectronics.com/store/buypart.cfm?pn=NL028516
Does anyone know if it is replaceable or not?
We are sick about this we only had the notebook one year and for the warranty to run out only 21 days before this died we are disappointed with HP for not providing some assistance.
This question was solved.

I don't know how to remove and add printers unless I had to format my hard drive for a completely different reason and reinstalled the printer that way.
To remove the printer, open System Preferences > Print & Scan. You will see the HP in the Printers list. Click on it once to select it and then press the minus button under the Printers list to remove it.
With this done, click the plus button under the Printers list to add the printer. With the Add Printer window open and the Default view selected, the HP should appear in this view. Select it and the Print Using menu should change to the supporting printer driver. When this happens, click the Add button to complete the creation of the printer queue.

I have heard other people have issues with 10.7.3 for other reasons and I should have waited until 10.7.4 came out before updating and I didn't and now there is nothing I can do to go back to 10.7.2
You cannot believe everything you read. For every person that had a problem after installing the .3 update, a hundred more had no problem.
But if you wanted to go back to 10.7.2, then you can use Time Machine to do this. If you are not using Time Machine then you need to start doing so. At least the update only stopped you from network printing. What if it had stopped you from using the Mac? -

I have a HP D110. It jams the paper when I print with wireless, but not when I use USB cable. Any ideas?
From what you describe you are having issues printing from MS Office. Have you had trouble printing from other resources on your computer (e.g. from the internet or another program)? The first thing I am going to suggest is that we start by uninstalling and reinstalling the printer from the resources available online.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it (this is important). Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.
