[SOLVED] Redefine Keyboard (with xmodmap)

Hello List,
I just discovered Arch Linux and need to know if there are ways to redefine the keys of the keyboard. I used xmodmap to do this in Ubuntu, and I need a custom keyboard for Emacs use.
Thanks for any hints
PS
Registering is a pain ... I used my usual eshell for the 'answer', but to no avail, only after switching to a normal (gnome) terminal window things worked out. Not really a warm welcome for new users, five minutes more and I would have abandoned the idea of trying Arch linux.

  • [SOLVED] Configure keyboard with HAL

    Hi
I'm using HAL with the new xorg-server 1.6 and since the upgrade, the keyboard delay before starting to repeat a keypress has become longer.  I'm not sure what caused this, but now I'd like to know how I configure this with HAL. I configured the mouse with some randomly named file in some directory named 10osvendor, but I have no idea what the file and directory names mean.
    So any ideas?
    Thanks

  • IBM USB Keyboard with Ultranav - D20 problems

I purchased an IBM keyboard, model #SK-8835 to use with my D20 WorkStation. They discontinued this keyboard in 2009, a mistake I think because they replaced it with a Lenovo keyboard #SK-8855, which does not have the extra number keys on the right side.
My Lenovo ThinkPad W700DS has a great keyboard with trackpoint, touchpad, and number pad.
So anyway, I plug in the IBM keyboard and neither the trackpoint nor touchpad are working.  I tried to load the software which came with the keyboard and recieved an error that the software is not recognized by my current operating system.
I suppose I could purchase a seperate number pad, but I REALLY do not want to do that. I prefer having the number pad built into the keyboard.
I tried downloading software from Lenovo website with no luck.
Does anyone know how to get the IBM keyboard #SK-8835 working fully on a D20 WorkStation??
    Thanks in advance.

no arguments there.   i definitely miss having an integrated number pad.   the canon calculator can switch from numpad to calc functions though, making it a rather useful alternative.
anyway, the keyboards are made by lite-on and use a combination of lite-on, synaptics, and IBM/lenovo hotkey drivers.   if you don't have luck with the package linked above then i'm not sure what else to suggest.    this particular piece of hardware is rather complicated for being so simple.   (that's an oxymoron, i know, but it makes sense in my head)

  • ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint (55Y9003) FRU

I'm trying to order a ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint part no. 55Y9003 here in Bulgaria.
But here they are selling only the European/Bulgarian version with a slighly differerent layout and part no. 55Y9009.
I had this problem before with the old UltraNav Keyboard and the keboards for my X40, X60 and X61s. What I did then was to order the keyboards as a replacement.
So I need to find the FRU P/N to order it as a replacement. But I only know the FRU of the bulgarian version (57Y4647).
I remember it used to be easy to find it on the product page, though I may be mistaking as I can't find it now.
Please does anybody know where I can find the FRU P/N of part no. 55Y9003?
Also I don't understand why the retailer here in Bulgaria can't do that, but lets not overdo it :-)

  • Apple Wired keyboard with numeric keypad works for 10.5.6??

    Hello!
I have a iBook G4 1 Ghz 256 mb of ram. I want the apple wired keyboard
With numeric keypad. My iBook is running 10.5.6. Would this work on leopard?
I don't care if the launch pad and mission control keys don't work since I have leopard.
However, on the box it says that the minimum requirements
Is 10.6.8 but some people say it'll work.
    Please Help!!!
    Thank You So Much

ok thanks for the tip and yes i admit i didn't see that...
but it seems a little weird to have to upgrade all the OS to Snow Leopard just to use a keyboard.
That kind of new device should be configured through a driver to download...shouldn't it ?
I presume there's no keyboard driver that can solve my problem.. ?
so you confirm that if i pay for Snow Leopard and upgrade my OS, my keyword will definitely work correctly with my Mac Mini ?
    Thanks

    1/ If i hit @ i get <
    2/ if i hit < i get @
3/ the function keys do not work : if i hit fn F11 it displays the desktop (as F11 does also), i was expecting lower volume
4/ if i hit fn F12 i get the widgets (as with F12) i was expecting higher volume

  • I want to replace my dv7-6199us standard keyboard with a backlit keyboard?

I need a backlit keyboard part number.
Can I replace my dv7-6199us  standard keyboard with a backlit keyboard? I have looked in the dv7 "Maintenance and Service Guide" for the dv7 with no success. I found the same keyboard without backlight. I have noticed the backlit keyboards in dv7s made after mine but I don't know how to find the part number for that keyboard.

    Hi,
The keyboard alone won't do the job. You need the motherboard on your machine has light CONNECTORS for the keyboard. I don't think your machine has this type of motherboard therefore you have to looking for a right montherboard first.

Hi louisr, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
Yes there is one. Click on the Service parts link at the bottom of the 55Y9003 page for a list of part numbers for various language versions. 55Y9014 is the French version.

  • Replacing a standard laptop keyboard with a backlit keyboard ??

Is it possible to obtain a backlit laptop keyboard replacement for a standard laptop keyboard? My computer is not that old but I use it late at night and the backlit keyboard would come in handy. Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase an upgrade for this?

    Hi,
Most likely you need few more things than just a keyboard with lights. First thing is you need somewhere to plug cables for lights that means you need a new motherboard and depending on your video card you may need new card, new cooling system ....
    Hope this makes sense.

  • Can't pair PB Mini bluetook keyboard with 32 gig PB running OS 2.1.0.840

I would not have normally installed a OS beta however I purchased a new 32 gig PB to replace my 16 gig unit and I could not move my apps and data to the new PB because the 16 gig PB is running an OS version that RIM pulled and that OS is newer than the OS I was able to install on the new PB.
All is running well on my new PB however I have not been able to pair my bluetooth PB mini keyboard. The pairing process identifies the peripheral / mini keyboard but the PB is not receiving the number code that must be entered. The number code is 2 sets of 3 digits with a space in between. Do you enter that space or just the total string of digits? I have tried both combinations without success.
I had no problem pairing the keyboard with my older 16 gig PB.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

After dozen of tries I got it paired and discovered the PB is not for dummies, like me. The pairing instructions say to enter the series of numbers but does not tell you to press enter. I borrowed an Android tab to check out the keyboard and found the Android pairing instructions were far clearer.

  • Replace noraml keyboard with Backlight Keyboard

    Hello,
I am using HP Pavilion DV6-6C02tx for 6 months. Every thing seems fine, the only thing problematic to me is that it doesn't has a backlight keyboard. I just want to ask if there is any way to replace my keyboard with backlight keyboard. How can I find that my motherboard supports backlight keyboard or not?

Reviewing the keyboards on page 64 of this guide, I don't see a backlit keyboard listed.  It is very likely this particular unit doesn't support backlighted keyboards since none are listed.

  • Replacement of Standard keyboard with Backlit keyboard

    Hi,
I've a standard keyboard in my HP envy dv6 3630qm, can I replace it with a backlit keyboard..??
    Regards..

    Hi there:
    Good news
Keyboard with backlight feature is available in few layouts, the part number would be similar to 698951-xxx.
You can look in through page 25 & 61 in this manual and know the exact part number:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03591281.pdf
Search the HP part number through HP part surfer website or through online store like eBay or Amazon.

  • Possible to replace non-backlit keyboard with backlit one?

I have a w530 without the backlit keyboard, can I get a backlit keyboard and switch it over? Is the backlight integrated with the keybaord itself?

    Dear Customer,
Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum
It looks like you are trying to replace the notebook keyboard with a backlit keyboard if its possible
We will surely assist you with this issue
As far as I know its only the top end models have that premium backlit feature. This is a Envy notebook feature and
we cant have the same backlit keyboard on a entry level notebook. You should also know that Notebooks are not open architecture like desktops, we cannot mix and match parts just as they can with the desktop PC environment.
We need to check if backlit keyboard feature is listed for your notebook in the service and maintenance guide or not.
If it is listed there is a chance that you can go for it. Its just that the motherboard has to have the ZIF connector for the ribbon cable that provides power to the backlight.
Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again
