[Solved] Remove Panel Shadow In KDE 4.10

Hello all,
I just moved to KDE 4.10, and everything works smoothly.
I have just on little annoyance, I can't figure out how to get rid of the panel shadow.
It is going on top of the application window itself, and makes it harder to read content, I'm pretty sure this was not the case in 4.9.x.
Thanks, Adam.

Or try this solution - it worked for me but on 4.9. The solution is made for totally transparent panel but i suppose you will find all needed info for your problem.

  • [Solved]Remove button icons in KDE applications when running under dwm

    I run dwm but also use KDE applications.
    KDE applications do show icons on dialog buttons:
    I gather that these buttons can be disabled in the system settings dialog when running a full KDE desktop. My question is: How do I achieve this - remove the icons on buttons - while not running a full KDE session?
    kcmshell4 doesn't seem to expose an option to do so in any available module, including 'kcmshell4 icons'.
    The systemsettings5 option repertoire is incomplete and only has the modules "Workspace>Desktop behaviour", "Workspace>Shortcuts", "Network>Settings" and "Network>Connectivity".
    In my .xsession, I am currently exporting
    export QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=gtk # Make Qt5 use the GTK+ theme
    export DESKTOP_SESSION=gnome # For something I can't quite remember
    I've also seen XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=gnome vs XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=kde floating around, but neither achieves anything in this regard.
    Does anybody know which setting in which config file I could set to emulate what the KDE configuration GUI does in a KDE session, or what KDE packages I would have to install in order to add the correct settings component to my KDE configuration utilities (KDE4 and/or Plasma 5), or what environment variable to set? A last resort would be installing a full KDE workspace or Plasma 5 and toggling the setting there, but I'd rather avoid doing that.

    Would running "kcmshell5 style", or "kcmshell4 style" be an option? Am not sure what you have installed, but under fine tuning tab there, there's exactly what you need.
    Edit: if that doesn't work, .config/kdeglobals
    ShowIconsInMenuItems=true
    ShowIconsOnPushButtons=true
    ToolButtonStyle=TextBesideIcon
    ToolButtonStyleOtherToolbars=TextBesideIcon
    Change to false and TextOnly, respectively
    Might have to look for another kdeglobals file for kde4 apps, which should be either in .kde4 or in home dir, since there's a bit of a mess currently during transition
    Please excuse my belated reply; thank you for the solution:
    The line
    ShowIconsOnPushButtons=false
    in kdeglobals removed the icons for KDE 4 applications. For some reason, applications using KDE Frameworks 5.x did never show the button icons to begin with.

  • How do I remove drop shadows from the default text in the labels of a Numbers pie chart?

    I set up a pie chart in Numbers and set labels for percentage.  The default text has drop shadowss.  They do print well at the scale needed for the page.  I cannot find out how to remove these shadows for clearer printing.  Can the shadows be removed?

    Nevermind.  Found the answer in nthe side bar under "Re:how can I print the figures (text) in a chart WITHOUT a cast shadow.  I had the Font window set too narrow and it did not show the Text Shadow button in the tool bar.  Unclicking that worked.

  • How to remove a shadow from a photo in iPhoto

    How do I remove a shadow from part of a photo using the editing tools in iPhoto?

    In a word, you don't. That's a compositing job and you need a photo editor for that:
    In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    The Gimp (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Pixelmator ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
    There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store.
    You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • "Remove Panel" in Application Builder?

    Hi,
    I don't really understand the purpose of the Remove Panel feature in the vi settings tab of app builder. It says if you are dynamically loading vi's, then you must set this to "no", which I have found out your app will not work if you don't do this. But what happens when this is set to "no" and what happens when it is set to "yes"? Why not leave it to "yes" for all vi's? And where is the "source setting" for this? Thanks!

    The reason for not leaving it to 'no' for all is easy. It consumes more memory. Both static (your exe grows) and dynamic (a copy of all front panel control and indicator data is made). so removing the front panel saves memory and can speed execution time.
    Setting all to 'yes' wont work because then there will not be a panel for anything the user needs to see. in other words, you need at least 1 panel to be set to 'no'. If you use other input or dialog boxes, these must be set to 'no' also.
    Read chapter 28 of the G programming manual, specifically pages 28-19 and 28-20 for front panel memory issues. The whole chapter is a must read, i think, but read at least these 2 pages.

  • [SOLVED] Post installation issues with KDE 4.7.0

    I reinstalled my machine (DELL Studio 540 PC) with Arch Linux 64 bit. I did an install using LVM2 and RAID (have 2 500 GB drives in my machine). Everything went fine with the installation and bootloader (grub2) but I'm having a few issues with KDE and grub2.
    1. When booting my machine grub2 gives an error saying "error: fd0 not found" (twice). My machine does not have a floppy drive and has never had one. There is no option in the BIOS to turn floppy off. So why is grub2 complaining about it?
    2. With KDE 4.7.0 thumbnails of pdf files are not generated anymore, they were with previous versions of KDE4. Anybody else have that issue with 4.7?
    3. I have and Brother DCP-7045n printer in my network and when try to print from a KDE program (Koffice, Kate, Kwrite, Kile etc.), the margins are completely messed up. The print preview on the screens looks right but the actual print everything shift upwards to the right. So things on top of a page are cut off for example. Printing from Gnome/GTK apps (Acrobat Reader, Libreoffice etc.) do not show this behaviour. I 've had this issue with KDE4 since KDE 4.3. Here is the original ustream bug:
    https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196590
    Anybody got an idea how to fix this?
    4. Skype is crashing on me on startup constantly several times before it finally runs. I've had this problem since the 2.2.x series got released? Anybody got a fix for that. I was hoping a reinstall would fix that problem (same with the printing issue) but no luck.
    5. I'm using KDE's microblogging plasma app to check my twitter account but I can't get to remember my password. Everytime I log into I have to manually login to my twitter and kdewallet is running and has my password stored and everything. This one really pusles me.
    6. The final issue I having and issue was also the  reason why I wanted to reinstall my machine in the first place. I originally used KDEmod as my desktop but they stopped making KDEmod some time ago when they started working on Chakra. So I removed KDEmod and installed KDE from Arch directly. A nice feature of KDE4 is its ability to generate previews on folders containing images and videos. When I switched to KDE that feature stopped working. So I was expecting that with a fresh install that this work and it does except for folders containing jpeg files. If I have a folder containing only jpeg files no previews/thumbnails are generated on the folder but previews the jpeg files themselves are generated. Does anybody else have that problem with jpegs and folder previews?
    Hope somebody can help me with these few issues...

    Have you installed grub2 with that --no-floppy flag as described in:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Grub2#BIOS_systems?

    Nope. Is it selected in dolphin>settings>general>previews.
    fettouhi wrote:5. I'm using KDE's microblogging plasma app to check my twitter account but I can't get to remember my password.
    Well that won't be a solution, but you might use choqok instead - at least it stores the password.
    To answer your first answer, yes I installed grub2 with the --no-floppy option as mentioned in the wiki. Regarding 2 I don't understand why that works for you then? I have all things turned on under previews (folder, video, jpeg etc.) but as mentioned in my first post I have no previews with pdf files and jpegs do generate on folder previews. Finally regarding 5 the microblogging plasma app worked fine on my old installation even after I updated to KDE 4.7.0. The password issue I'm having is on my fresh install.

  • Build settings "remove panel" option gray in application builder

    I am trying to create a stand alone application from my VI using application builder. My problem is I do not want a GUI front panel for it. In the application builder I go to "build settings" but the option to set "remove panel" to yes is gray and unselectable. Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change so I can select this? I can see that some of the VIs in my main VI have this as selectable. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Removing a shadow

    How would I go about removing a shadow from a video of some people skiing. I am willing to rotoscope it but how would I do it in Shake.

    there is more than one way to do it - and it all depends on what the shot is -
    if it is locked off on a tripod - if not you will have to matchmove/sabilize/track
    if the shadow is cast over people or objects. - that would probably involve painting out.
    do you have a similar piece of footage you could use to replace the areas with shadow? - you could simply exchange the whole foreground.
    Is it a big shadow? - if it is small you may be able to paint it out but if it spans a great area you wouldnt want to do that.
    rotoscoping would isolate the shadoe but you will still need something to fill this roto with.

  • Does anybody know the terminal instruction to remove the shadow from screen grab images

    Does anybody know the terminal instruction to remove the shadow from screen grab images?
    I saw it somewhere on some site ages ago
    (I like to align images together and take another screen grab without the darn shadow and without opening another app)

    I found this:
    defaults write com.apple.screencapture disable-shadow -bool true && killall SystemUIServer
    but this soesn't seem to work
    and this
    To get rid of the shadow and only capture the window, enter this line of code in Terminal:
    defaults write com.apple.screencapture disable-shadow -bool true
    Then to implement the change, enter:
    killall SystemUIServer
    To revert the modification and restore shadows, enter:
    defaults write com.apple.screencapture disable-shadow -bool false
    doesn't work either in Mountain Lion

  • [SOLVED] Can't remove VLC launcher in KDE

    I've googled and searched the forum and can't seem to solve this. Recently a launcher for VLC began appearring on my KDE taskbar. If I delete this launcher it reappears at next login. I recall having a similar issue with a Firefox launcher (may not have been in Arch) and was able to solve it in plasma-desktop-appletsrc, however I see no mention of VLC or default media player in there now. Am I missing something obvious? It's not hugely important, but I don't need the launcher and it bothers me that I can't permanently remove it.
    Last edited by claudecat (2012-05-29 19:22:16)

    Figured it out - I had to comment out all lines in plasma-desktop-appletsrc that mention launchers, then logout, resulting in no launchers. I then readded the ones I wanted, logged out and in again and had only the ones I wanted. Strangely, the commented lines in plasma-desktop-appletsrc had disappearred. Marking this solved (like anyone here cares).
