[SOLVED] Remove / Uninstall 'supersonic' AUR package
Hi guys, I am setting up a home server which will have OwnCloud and some music streaming with Subsonic.
I read that Supersonic was a fork of Subsonic and was available on AUR so I installed that - though I cannot seem to get it to work, it starts OK but I cannot browse to MYHOMEURL:4040.
Anyways, I am now gonna install the actual subsonic from AUR but I cannot seem to uninstall supersonic using pacman.
Pacman -Rsnc supersonic
...returns 'error: target not found: supersonic'
This is my first time using Arch and of course AUR so I cannot see how to remove this package.

(SOLVED) How do I remove dependencies of AUR packages?
I rather not use sudo and thereof I issue a 'makepkg' instead of a 'makepkg -s' and install dependencies manually. I wonder though what happens when I issue a 'pacman -Rns' to remove an AUR package. Pacman doesn't seem to remove the dependencies. Do I need to issue a 'makepkg -s' in order to automagically remove dependencies with 'pacman -Rns'? What about AUR packages that have other AUR packages as dependency and therefor cannot be installed with 'makepkg -s'?
Last edited by Kasumi_Ninja (2010-01-03 13:39:51)I haven't fully thought this through but I would like --asdeps to take an argument that specifies 'to what'.
For example: wicd has an optional dependency for notifcation-daemon, which I want. I would like to be able to
pacman -S --asdeps='wicd' notification-daemon
This would then modify wicd to depend on notification-daemon. This isn't perfect since it is an optional and not a real dependency. The only real problem I can think of is if I want to remove notification-daemon. However pacman should see 'notification-daemon' listed under dependencies AND optional-dependencies, so it could give a warning and an option to go ahead anyway. If it goes ahead, pacman reverts wicd to nolonger depend notification-daemon. I feel like it should be pretty easy to add this to pacman.
I feel like something like yaourt would be responsible for asking if I want to install optional dependencies. So when I install something with yaourt it asks me about each optional dependency and if I want it.
Just my two cents. -
[SOLVED] How to install aur packages using pacaur
I'm trying to install dwb-git. It installs with no problem with aura, but pacaur gives me problems. If I run pacaur as regular user it will build but will not install and will say permission denied.
If I run pacaur with sudo it will say building packages as root is a bad idea and will quit. The only other possibility I see is running it with --asroot flag which is a really bad idea.

[Solved] Maitreya's dream AUR Package
Hi all - first off, I didn't know where else to ask for help about unsupported software, which is why I am posting in this subforum. I know that I might need to ask the author of the program about this, but just in case someone here could help out on this....
I am trying to install a software called Maitreya's Dream. The program requires wxwidgets for successful compilation. For that I installed wxgtk from extra. It also needs a special font, for which I have copied the needed font into the /usr/share/fonts/TTF and done a fc-cache -f -v. The installation instructions were...
./configure
make
and to start the program by going to src/gui and typing
./maitreya
Though ./configure and make seemed to go without problems, i could not start the program after cding to src/gui and trying ./maitreya - instead I got this error.
Fatal Error: stat failed, errno is 2.
I googled and found this in the Ubuntu forums. according to this page i got that error because wxwidgets(wxgtk) does not have unicode.
But how can I find out whether the extra wxgtk package has unicode support or not...?
I would really like to get this software working because it would remove the last need for me to have wine installed on my Arch64 system.
thanks for any replies.

if i'm doing something stupid in the PKGBUILD please tell me

[SOLVED] Rebuilding all installed AUR packages
Hi guys,
before starting to hack some dirty script on my own i would like to know if there's already any program/script which looks up the list of packages, which were installed from aur: pacman -Qqm, and rebuilds/exports them?
the reason why i ask: i have several machines running on arch64 and i need 50+ built packages to serve them in the intranet.
best regards
Last edited by broken pipe (2011-12-26 20:25:12)thx karol, i'm already using pacserve to avoid downloading packages for each machine in the network.
what i want to do is: read the output of 'pacman -Qqm' and rebuild + export the pkgs
i did a little bash script to achieve this. but i have to admit i'm not good at scripting but i gave my best improvements are welcomed

[SOLVED] How to install AUR packages with patchname.patch
Hi all,
I'm trying to install lottanzb from the AUR and there's are a dependency called par2cmdline 0.4-13 that has a lot of nameofpatch.patch that are included in the AUR par2cmdline 0.4-13 package page that just open up to a url that shows code.
I created patch files from the code displayed in the url with a text editor and added them to the extracted LOTTANZB folder in my build directory but when I go to build the package with PKGBUILD it runs through a check sum while building and the checks don't match.
I'm obviously doing something fundamentally wrong here. Can someone direct me?
Thanks,
Last edited by bennylb0 (2010-05-28 13:30:16)Hi, thanks for reply.
Sorry, my mistake.
I did place patch files inside the par2cmdline-0.4 folder. The only reason I created the .patch files and placed them inside par2cmdline-0.4 folder was because the PKGBUILD as well as the other 5 .patch files didn't exist inside the extracted build folder. They only place I could find them was in AUR par2cmdline-0.4 displayed as a url.
When I copied and created the PKGBUILD as it did not exist inside the extracted folder par2cmdline-0.4 folder I received the following error:-
Error autoconf.patch was not found in the build directory and is not a url. That along with 4 others do not exist in the build directory.
You can see this bellow:-

[solved] how to add aur packages
I can't seem to figure out how to install packages from aur ive looked at the official page but clearly I am doing something wrong. I am trying to set up rutorrent.
I added the yaourt but now i'm getting "yaourt" command not found.
Any help would be great.
Last edited by Arch-Hoochie (2014-10-07 14:51:04)I frequently voice a very negative bias against yaourt - so much so that I almost feel guilty about it now that I'm a moderator (almost).
But all biases aside, if yaourt is a good tool for anyone, it is only for those who know how the aur works. It seems you are not yet familiar with the basics, so a tool like yaourt will be a great hinderance preventing any future learning.
Start out by just downloading the aur-tarballs and use makepkg to build (and even install if you'd like with makepkg -i or makepkg -si). Once you get the idea of how all the moving parts work, then you can look into a helper tool - but there are *many* beside yaourt.
The fact that many here have ranted about it over and over, yet the archlinux.fr page still advises new users to run the `pacman -Sy` command (which could very easily cause substantial problems) takes the 'almost' out of my first sentence: I am very comfortable publicly expressing my distaste for yaourt. -

[SOLVED] How to update AUR packages?
Hi,
I am new to archlinux. a few days ago i installed my first application from the AUR and now I am wondering: How can i update? I believe that I have to use an AUR helper to do that. Is that correct? And which helper should i use? Any recommendations?
thanx
Last edited by turtlefox (2015-05-12 14:36:27)ok I understand, fetch the tarball again and building it will work. (that already came to my mind actually)
However, for long-term use I kind of want a more convenient solution, so I think I will try cower.
Can anyone tell me how to install cower? At https://github.com/falconindy/cower there is only a zip-file that I can download. The zip file contains the files 'bash_completion', 'config', 'cower.c', 'Makefile', 'README.pod' and 'zsh_completion'. (sorry, but I see no option for including the files in this post) In the README however, there is no information about installation. -
[Solved] Remove uninstalled systemd units
Hello people.
I got a weird problem with lingering systemd units.
auditd.service error inactive dead auditd.service
plymouth-quit-wait.service error inactive dead plymouth-quit-wait.service
plymouth-quit.service error inactive dead plymouth-quit.service
plymouth-start.service error inactive dead plymouth-start.service
syslog.service error inactive dead syslog.service
All of these services do not exist in the filesystem, but get "started" one way or another. I'd like to resolve this problem in some way.
Greetings, peacememories.
Last edited by peacememories (2013-08-13 10:38:01)Sadly, no. Does systemd cache its required units somewhere?
EDIT:
I checked /usr/lib/systemd to make sure and et voila, I found something. Let me just check which package those files belong to.
EDIT2:
Okay, apparently they are all owned by systemd itself? i'm confused.

Can't install AUR packages(makepkg: invalid option '--asroot')[SOLVED]
I've been unable to install any AUR packages with either packer or yaourt since a couple days ago possibly after a system update.
For example if I try to install kodi-standalone-service:
sudo packer -S kodi-standalone-service
(Type - y, n, n)
makepkg: invalid option '--asroot'
The build failed.
This happens to all packages I tried including ones that I installed before with the same command. I installed yaourt after I started to get this error but fails just like packer. I tried running as root or normal user with same results.
In case it matters, these are the steps I used to install packer.
I am at a loss as to why it suddenly stopped working, any ideas?

It's ironic that you accused me of not searching when you haven't bothered to search the error message yourself. If you had you would know the search does not return useful results until this post.
Sorry, I only searched for --asroot which brought up several relevant threads.
No big deal, but in general you shouldn't post things like "search the forum" as it's rarely helpful, and when it is the thread should probably be closed it those cases anyways... -
Can't upgrade AUR packages after removal of /var/lib/pacman/local
Hi guys, i accidentally deleted the content of /var/lib/pacman/local but fortunately i restored it following the wiki.
But, in this way, i only restored base packages and so no one of the packages i've installed from AUR is shown in the list of the installed packages....i thought to install them again one by one, but installation is not successful because files already exist and, beside this, i don't rember the name of all the AUR packages....
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Unless you have a backup of /var/lib/pacman/local, I think you're going to have to manually remove files provided by AUR packages, then reunstall them. Or you could try forcing the install (see man pacman), but take care not to break other packages in the process.
If it's useful to you, you can generate a list of files that pacman doesn't know about with:
find / -exec pacman -Qo -- {} + 2> /tmp/files >/dev/null
less /tmp/files
This will include cache files, user created files, etc. so don't just rm everything unowned by pacman.
That's what i thought to do but as i wrote i don't remember which are the aur packages, better still i remember just some of them...i tried your commands but i get a list of such strange things about cache etc...i can't see nothing concerning pacman....surely is a lack of mine....

[SOLVED]Weird conflict with official packages and aur packages
Hi. I have enchant-zemberek installed on my system. It is my package that i'm maintaining at AUR. Yesterday i tried to install poedit which depends on enchant. Weirdly altoguh enchant-zemberek provides enchant; pacman tried to remove enchant-zemberek and instead install enchant. Otherwise it won't let me install poedit. I have updated enchant-zemberek PKGBUILD and pacman let me install poedit without forcing me to install enchant. Here is what i have in my first PKGBUILD before update:
replaces=("enchant")
provides=("enchant")
conflicts=('enchant')
And after updating;
replaces=("enchant=${pkgver}")
provides=("enchant=${pkgver}")
conflicts=('enchant')
Now, i'm wondering while an AUR package have different package name than the official one why pacman tries to replace it? Why PKGBUILD needs package version in provides tag? Say, if i want to keep my own my-abc-1.0-1.i686.pkg.tar.xz but official package abc-1.1-1.i686.pkg.tar.xz released; must i keep my package only in Ignores array? Should i report this as a bug?
Last edited by tarakbumba (2011-04-07 09:52:41)No, its not a bug. poedit depends on gtkspell which depends on enchant>=1.5.0 - your original custom enchant package did not provide any specific version of enchant, so pacman pulled in the repo package instead to satisfy the versioned dependency. As you have built your package with replaces=enchant, pacman also honours that.

I'm using Archlinux and the system works flawessly. Sadly, there's a problem when trying to install AUR packages.
The following happens installing any AUR package I tried lately.
==> Continue installing wicked-git? [Y/n]
==> [v]iew package contents [c]heck package with namcap
==> ----------------------------------------------
==>y
loading package data...
error: './wicked-git-20090112-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz': cannot open package file
==> WARNING: Your package is saved in /tmp/yaourt-tmp-timofonic/wicked-git-20090112-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
cp: cannot stat `./wicked-git-20090112-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz': No such file or directory
==> WARNING: Unable to copy wicked-git-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz to /tmp/yaourt-tmp-timofonic/ directory
Any idea about how to fix it? I tried using both an user with sudo and root, same problem.
Regards.

Perhaps the method to use is given by the man pacman files.
pacman -U (.pkg.tar.gz package ID found in the directory generating the package)
For example: ...pacman -U /var/local/kernel26-2.6.30-5-x86-64.pkg.tar.gz......since the pkg generated is in that directory for this theoretical case.
Any locally generated package is loaded with ...pacman -U....
What do you mean? The package doesn't exist, I double checked it.
Maybe I need to check where yaourt writes it. Any suggestion about what util to use for that?
EDIT: I used "lsof" command and found the file is there, but yaourt can't locate it and deletes the directory after
$ ls /tmp/yaourt-tmp-root/aur-wicked-git/wicked-git/w*
/tmp/yaourt-tmp-root/aur-wicked-git/wicked-git/wicked-git-20090708-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
/tmp/yaourt-tmp-root/aur-wicked-git/wicked-git/wicked-git-20090709-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
Please, could anyone help me to solve this problem?
