[Solved] Running XBMC without the GUI

Hi,
I'm using XBMC as a way to stream all my video and music to my xbox 360, which works really well. The problem is when i want to use my desktop while xbmc is on, because the gui doesnt let me get back to my desktop. I would like to be able to use my computer while at the same time its streaming to my xbox. Am I just being an idiot and theres a simple command to minimise the program?
Thanks

  • Can't run fmx without the pll

    HI All,
    I have a form that has a pll attached to it, the problem is that i've to put the pll with the form, if i put the plx only the form doesn't open. How can i solve this problem as i can't put the pll at the customer side. I'm using oracle forms 6.0.8.11.3 and i didn't have this problem before

    did you pick up the pll via the file dialog? As if you have done this, you are prompted if forms builder should remove the absolute path, but attaches the library with the .pll ending. so if you have a plx the form won't run as it requires the pll version.
    so reattach your library just with the library name and without the file ending...

  • Run java without the terminal

    I am working on an application(a gui of course), and I would like to be able to run it without a terminal in the background? Is this even possible? I know about executable jar files, but a majority of the time, the OS won't know what to do with it.
    For the time being, I made a very simple C program which calls the java command, but it opens a termial anyways.
    Please advise (ooohhh, what a fancy way to ask for help. Advise makes it sound cool XD)

    And either way, this still opens a terminal :(Not on any of the systems where I've used it.
    It sounds like you and/or some crap applications you've installed have messed up your environment.
    Can't you remap whatever KDE uses to handle various filetypes?

  • [SOLVED] Certain programs crash the GUI (ATI graphics card)

    Hi all,
    When I start certain programs, the GUI crashes and becomes inreadable. I can't see the text, buttons or anything. It is as if 'bricks' have been moved around.
    When I log on to a Virtual Consile, I can restart GDM, login and all is fine, untill I start the certain programs again.
    It seems to be these two programs causing the GUI to crash:
    LibreOffice (It automatically starts in the document restore mode, after the last crash - which crashes the GUI )
    Keepass
    Other programs I can use jsut fine:
    Gimp
    FireFox
    Chromium
    Eclipse
    Rhythmbox
    Banshee
    I do not know what causes this, nor where I should start looking. I've skimmed through the error logs, but I do not see anything suspecious.
    I'm running arch linux, 64 - bit, and it is fully updated, open source ati drivers.
    Where should I start looking, and what might cause this problem?
    Thank you in advance for your help.

    *Edit
    Changed the subject to solved, and added the info that I use an ATI card.
    The solution was in the following thread.

  • Archiving a file from a PC to SAP without the GUI

    Hi,
    I am looking for a way to send a file from a local pc to SAP Content Server 6.40 (archive link or Kpro).
    We already tried to use a bapi (BDS_BUSINESSDOCUMENT_CREATEF) that is linked to GOS  but it failed. This bapi is cheking if the GUI is open. Since all the process should be done in the background, it fails.
    We are actually using VBA in excell to call RFC/Bapi to try to do this.
    Anybody has an idea on how to do this ???
    many thanks in advance,
    nicolas

    Hi Samir
    You can try running the program  RC1TCG3Z

  • How to run VI without the DAQ card connected to the labtop

    This may be a silly question but I want to have the answer and couldn't find the answer for spending time in searching in the web.
    I want to run the VI that controls the intruments in my labtop. The VI was run in a destop that has a DAQ card in the PC (a PCI card).  I know it is possible to run it without errors (without a DAQ card) in my labtop . Anyone knows how to do it? I used labview 7.1. Thanks,
    Jun

    If you are using DAQmx and if the DAQ card is supported, you can add a simulated device in MAX.

  • Running system without the whole 9iAS

    Hi,
    It is possible to "export" the whole system (my running application) after the development to another application server.
    or to a Apache/Tomcat ?
    Thanks
    Michael

    Thaks,
    1. we are working with 9iAS v2, which was just released.
    2. Yes I mean the portal system. I can use all the portlets like they are?
    Where are they stored? Is there a paper somewhere where they describe how to set this up?
    Thanks,
    Michael
    Hi,
    I assume two things from your questions -
    1.you have development install on iasv1 (1.0.2.1 or 1.0.2.2).
    2. By "whole system", you mean portal system.
    Portal works with Apache/Jserv combination only. However, if you are using web providers, web-providers can be deployed on Tomcat also.

  • [SOLVED] Running cupsd without root permission.

    Hello,
    This is a newbie question about running the CUPS daemon as a regular user.
    The Arch Wiki page on CUPS said to "start the cups ... daemon" but did not say how.
    I searched the web and found that you can start it as a root user with the following command:
    # cupsd
    At this point, I can setup a printer, and everythings prints properly. However, I have to restart cupsd each time I reboot. Being a root only command, I can't add it to my startup script.
    What do I do?
    Here are some more details:
    I installed 64 bit arch a few days ago.
    I'm not using a desktop environment, just openbox window manager. The startup script I am using is the openbox-session autostart script.
    If I run the command "cupsd" as a regular user, I get bash: /usr/bin/cupsd: Permission denied. This is how I know it will not work. This rules out a typo in the startup script.
    Here is a list of all the steps/commands used to install cups:
    Turn printer on
    $ su
    enter root password
    # pacman -S cups
    # pacman -S cups-filters
    # pacman -S ghostscript
    # pacman -S gsfonts
    # pacman -S gutenprint
    # cupsd
    # exit
    $ firefox -new-window http://localhost:631
    Adding Printers and Classes
    Add Printer
    Login as root with the root password
    Select the local printer detected
    Default Name, Description, Location
    Select the model: Canon PIXMA MP510
    Default options
    Printed a test page.
    Got excited.
    Spent 4 hours trying to run cupsd in a startup script.
    I tried to add my regular user to the lp group.
    $ su
    enter root password
    # gpasswd -a michael lp
    $ exit
    $ groups michael
    confirmed that I'm added to lp
    $ cupsd
    I tried to chmod /usr/bin/cupsd, but got a weird error message "Child exited on signal 15". I used pacman to uninstall then reinstall cups undo this attempt.
    $ su
    enter root password
    # chmod a+rwx /usr/bin/cupsd
    # exit
    $ cupsd
    Some sites said to edit /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and comment out some lines. However, none of the lines mentioned exist in my /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file. I tried to comment out a few that looked close, but no success. I ended up commenting out everything and still no success. I used pacman to uninstall then reinstall cups undo this attempt, returning /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to it's original condition. Here is the file:

    Well, the problem is now resolved. After using my wife's printer for 1.5 months I finally had the time to try it again. I got it working. I entered a lot of different commands, but the following is what finally did the trick. The ideas came from ThomasR on another forum post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=35567
    <code>
    # killall cupsd
    # groupadd printadmin
    # usermod -aG printadmin myusername
    # nano /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
    Add the following to the bottom of the file and save:
       SystemGroup printadmin
    # cupsd
    Add the printer using the web-based administration interface (in the web browser, go to URL http://localhost:631)
    </code>
    I looks like the lp group stuff that I entered in my first post was a few commands short of being effective. The printadmin group commands worked wonderfully. After rebooting the computer the change stuck, so I never had to restart the cups daemon each time I rebooted the computer.
    I don't know what way is better to start the cups daemon, cupsd or systemctl.
    <code>
    # cupsd
    vs.
    # systemctl enable cups.service
    # systemctl start cups.service
    </code>

  • How do I delete cookies from Safari 8.0 without the GUI?

    I have Safari 8.0 (10600.1.25.1) on OS X 10.10.1 (14B25) (Yosemite). When I quit Safari completely (actually quit, not just close the window), and delete the following things using the following.
    rm -r ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/
    rm -r ~/Library/Cookies
    rm -r ~/Library/Safari
    When I restart Safari, the cookies are still there and I'm still logged in to a website that stored a cookie after login.
    Which files do I need to delete or what do I have to do to get Safari to actually delete the cookies?
    I need to be able to move/rename the files/directories and then move them back at a later time...
    thanks!

    You should be able to export bookmarks from Safari by using File > Export Bookmarks and choosing where to put the file. Then open Firefox bookmarks window from "Show All Bookmarks" and import the file you saved from Safari.

  • Already bought quicktime pro but still running without the pro options

    Hello.
    I have already bought quicktime pro but after I had to reinstall it is running again without the pro options. I logged into apple.com and there is nowhere where I can find my actualisation or key code which I have paid for to make it run as pro.
    Does anyone know where to find it or how to fix this problem so it runs as pro again without having to pay for it again?
    Thank you for your help,
    kind regards

    If you've lost the email Apple sent you containing the Pro key, log into your account in the Apple Store and click on the Downloadable Software Purchases link. You should find the key shown there.
    Regards.

  • Running without the battery. Bad for the Macbook?

    I want to preserve the integrity of my battery, so I am runing my MBP without it in. I just have it plugged into the wall. I'm wondering, is it bad to run it without the battery? Like, are there any huge malfunctions that could happen?
    I dont want to constantly run it with the battery, when I have a wall outlet. My brother did that with his powerbook, and ater a year, his battery life sucked.

    All batteries lose their ability to recharge to its full factory capacity, Li-ion or not. This is the very nature of rechargeable batteries. Since li-ions don't have a memory footprint, it doesn't matter what you store them at.
    You bro read this:
    A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of charge/discharge cycles. This drawback is not widely publicized.
    At a 100% charge level, a typical Li-ion laptop battery that is full most of the time at 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit, will irreversibly lose approximately 20% capacity per year. However a battery stored inside a poorly ventilated laptop, may be subject to a prolonged exposure to much higher temperatures than 25 °C, which will significantly shorten its life. The capacity loss begins from the time the battery was manufactured, and occurs even when the battery is unused. Different storage temperatures produce different loss results: 6% loss at 0 °C/32 °F, 20% at 25 °C/77 °F, and 35% at 40 °C/104 °F. When stored at 40% charge level, these figures are reduced to 2%, 4%, 15% at 0, 25 and 40 degrees Celsius respectively
    The problem is he didn't quite understand it or remember it. Storing the battery at 40% doesn't reduce the 10-20% loss. What the excerpt talks about is temperature of the environment the battery rests in. It is an interaction effect.
    If the battery is at 100% charge, and stored at 40 °C/104 °F, then a 35% reduction will occur. If it is stored at 40% capacity, then a 20% reduction will occur. If it is stored at 100% charge at 0 °C/32 °F a 6% reduction will occur, when if the battery is dropped to 40%, only a 4% reduction will occur.
    You bro is wrong in thinking you can stop Li-ion batteries from losing their charge. This happens from the point of manufacturing.

  • Can you install solaris 10 without installig the gui?

    Hi all. As you see I am new to solaris but not new to the unix world. I finally got some hardware to install the solarais 10 dvd I had hanging around. Since it was my first install I told it to install the kitchen sink (also b/c I wasn't quite sure of what the different options were that I was presented with). Well I have been flloored the last 3 days playing with it as it is simply AWESOME. I actually am having gasp fun. I am old school and have general disdain for gui on unix. Sun implementation is great though. Still though I am curious, can I simply install the "base " operating system without the gui for a server project? if so what install option should I look out for, none is obvious like all the linux distros that have "install desktop environment" option. I would just wipe it out and explore the other install options but I actually was able to setup all services I was curious about and I have a test group using it. After some more stability tests I would like to wipe and go production with commandline only. thank you

    Two excellent answers. Thank you so much. The bit about disabling graphical login is great. I gotta be honest. I am younger than the unix kernel. My inexperience makes it hard to navigate unices that have gui's installed because the directories get filled with so much shit. I really do prefer commandline cause it simple and leaves me with files that I can figure out what they mean if I need to.
    Like I mentioned, I had this disk on hand for about 1.5 years. I tried installing once and kinda gave up for lack of interest. Ever since I have occasionally hit the web and tried to find more info about the various options in the installer. Since it is so slow I didn't have much time to dilly dally with it and try different permutations. I'm so glad I had nothing to do this sunday and fired up an old server with it. I am very impressed so far. If the installer and a few bugs with it were clarified I would say I had almost a perfect experience so far. That is something I intend to contribute to the community. While I do not have solid coding background, I am a workflow and layout "master" and have lots of experience implementing interactive devices.

  • How do I run iTunes without my external hard drive?

    Hi,
    I have uploaded all my music to iCloud so am under the impression I do not need my local files which are all stored on a 4TB (not fun to move around) G-Tech drive.
    I cannot run iTunes without the hard drive plugged in, if anybody knows a way for me to play my music through iCloud on just my internet-connected laptop that would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Michael.

    Change where iTunes thinks your library is by opening iTunes with the option key selected and create a blank 'iTunes library' on your internal drive.

  • Is it possible to power the macbook pro on just the wall charger, without the battery?

    I'd like to be able to not even use the battery on my computer. Is it possible to run it just off of the wall plugin?

    I have a late 08 Macbook Uni,  I wanted to run it without the battery when I first got it since I got used to running my Dell Laptop without batteries to save my battery from dying because of windows bad power management.
    I found out that my macbook runs much slower without the battery.  Can't really tell you why it just does.
    Do remember that Macbooks have a much better power management system than windows.  My Dell Laptop battery didn't even last 3 years before it fully died.
    My late 08 Macbook is way over it's 1000 charge cycle ( i'm at 1067 ) and i'm still getting over 3 hours from my original battery.
    I suggest you leave your battery in.
    Just follow apple's battery care procedure to make your battery last longer - if that's what you're worried about.
    good luck

  • Run applets without JRE

    Hello to all developers,
    I know that to run applets in IE we should have the JRE installed on our machines. But is there any way that we can run applets without the JRE being installed on our machines. I have also heard of something called as the Microsoft JVM. How can we use it to run the java applets.
    Thanking in advance.

    The Microsoft JVM is extremely outdated and not recommended at all. You can't really run a Java applet without a JVM, and I'm not sure if any but the one Sun makes comes with a browser plugin.
