[SOLVED] Skype 2.2.0.25 crashes almost instantly on 64 bit

Just updated to the new Skype beta (64 bit, multilib) and it crashes constantly. I can run it but after a few moments running it crashes/closes.
[af@andre ~]$ export QT_PLUGIN_PATH=$QT_PLUGIN_PATH:/opt/lib32/usr/lib/qt/plugins
[af@andre ~]$ skype
Disconnect (SIGABRT)
Anybody else getting this?
EDIT: New update of Skype fixed the crashing issues.

I upgraded yesterday to multilib/skype 2.2.0.25-1 on a fully up-to-date 64 bits system. When restarting skype this morning, the login window works like normal but it crashes when the skype main window opens. I would be surprised if it has to do with the sound system.
Looking at /var/log/messages.log I notice this message:
Apr 12 09:44:12 localhost kernel: process `skype' is using obsolete setsockopt SO_BSDCOMPAT
Downgraded to package skype (2.2.0.25-1 => 2.1.0.81-5.1) and that works fine for now (as it did before).
The error message quoted above is apparently not related to the newer version: it's also in messages.log when I restart my system and start skype 2.1.0.81-5.1, and has been written into messages.log since summer last year when I started using this laptop (ASUS UL30A)

I have recently update my Final Cut Pro X to Final Cut Pro X 10.1. I downloaded the update from the app store. Now every time I open Final Cut it crashes almost instantly. What can I do?- I really need help!

It sounds as though you have a corrupt project - or possibly a file within an event that is causing the application to crash.
Quit FCP X, then move your projects and events (if you have any) to new folders so that FCP X doesn't find them, then relaunch the application. If it launches OK, there's a very good chance one of your projects or events is causing the problem.
Quit the app again, then move one event or project at a time back to the original folder and launch FCP X again - keep going until you find the cause.

  • Muse CC - Crash almost instantly

Ok, so whenever I open Adobe Muse CC (Recently updated) within seconds it will crash and I will get this dialog box.
I read somewhere about embedded html that has been the route for some crashing - but I have removed it and it still happens!
Anyone with similar or anyone with a fix?

Didn't work for me 48 hours and site is still down.
I am constantly crashing, getting  "not responding" while opening, saving or uploading to FTP site." I have deleted all pages except one in order to upload an index page that actually had the proper CC codes. I had many pages of slideshows. I'm stuck with only a homepage and I can't do anything but completely rebuild. I do have backups saved of the original site. If I try to FTP it gives me the "not responding" error at 60% upload and it tells me it's optimizing the images. I let it sit for hours and have tried just about everything I can think of and still it won't let me upload. Now, I can work on another, very small site with no slide shows and it worked just fine. Please help. I'm at my wits end!
Windows 7, Muse CC. Not sure if trying to put in HTML for a Facebook "like" button on home page or not has any cause here. Did delete the HTML, but still it hangs up on opening site.
Several hours later I even uninstalled and reinstalled Muse and tried opening a prior saved site because it seems that earlier when I did a "save" it created another site in another folder which I didn't do. Still can't FTP or Export the site. ANY HELP???

  • Adobe Flash crashes almost instantly. it is upto date and enabled. Help

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it with no change. I send a crash report every time. Don't know what to do! Help please.

I now understand the version nuances between the browsers and thanks for the response. Now what, if anything, can I do to address the continuum of Flash crashes since I find it difficult to believe that I'm the only user experiencing this anomaly?

  • Itunes 7.0.1 crashes almost instantly

I have had itunes for some time now and i just recently updated to itunes 7.0.1 and now all of a sudden itunes wants to crash when i start it. It does the gapless playback and crashes or it says updating ipod and crashes. I don't know why it's doing this since nothing has been done other than updating. Help would be appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem and tried every solution coming up on this forum. I ended up backing up my hard drive to an external disk, secure trashing iTunes and all it's components and reinstalling OS X and iTunes from the utility disk supplied with my Mac. Although I had to reauthorise my machine to run my purchased music, this rollback seems to have worked and I am happily back on 6.0.2 with no problems at all (other than that i can no longer buy videos from the store as it wants me to upgrade - not a chance, at least until 7.0.2 is out and proven to be debugged!).

  • Firefox crashes almost daily!

I've been a BIG fan of Firefox for many years. I really want my Firefox to work! I'm extremely frustrated over this so I'll apologize now if I offend anyone.
For the last year or so, I've had so MANY problems that I'm frustrated enough to quit using it. Problem is, I don't want to use any other browser. However, I have to use another browser if I want to see youtube or news videos without it stopping and starting or showing a message that Flash crashed. (it doesn't crash on other browsers) I want to see websites without the browser crashing and telling me to reload the page. I want add-ons that don't give a message that they have crashed. You folks had a really good browser and now for whatever reason, it just doesn't work. I have no clue as to why.
Most, but not all, of the problems seem to have something to do with playing videos. Whether I'm on youtube or a news site, Flash has more problems running than it doesn't. I'm running Win 8.1 with latest updates on a Lenovo laptop with over 250GB free on the hard drive, 6 GB memory and I've cleared cache as well as defragged. I have Firefox 34.0.5. My only add-ons are Flash, Lazarus (most important to me), and Intel Identity protection. I'll try anything to keep Firefox! But it has to work right.
    Problems:
    1. Watching videos - choppy, will stop, sit, then start again, repeatedly, as if cache or harddrive was full.
    2. Extremely SLOW! There have been times it took over a minute to load a single web page. Same page is almost instant with IE 11.
    3. Crashes, A LOT! Almost daily. I report some but not all. I get tired of that little button to notify you because it seems nothing is done about it. For about a month a year or so ago, I reported them all but nothing ever changed, even with updates.
    4. This is most important - I don't have any of these problems with IE11 or Chrome 41. I don't have problems with other programs I run. I've reduced my startup programs to bare minimum plus Digsby and I regularly run anti malware and anti virus.
    5. And the worst part, I'm not sure how to find this post again to see if anyone answered it! I don't know if it's my frustration level or what, but I had a hard time finding how to post this. I'll be lucky to find it again. I don't see anything to check to notify me when it's replied to.
Look at all these crash reports! And these are the only ones I reported, not all of them.

We can follow the links to the crash reports that start with bp- (which are linked automatically when viewing in your original post). For the most recent ones, if you click through the code to the crash stats server, you might get those bp- codes or you could paste the URLs from the address bar.
    * The 12/8/2014 crash is specific to the Flash plugin.
    * The 12/1/2014 crash occured within 10 seconds of startup and there's not enough information for me to figure out whether this is a problem with an extension, with a page recovery, or other situation.
    * The 11/30/2014 crash was caused by an "out-of-memory" condition. According to the corresponding bug tracking entry, it is fixed in Firefox 36, but it's not always possible to bring these fixes forward to earlier releases as code changes can be very interdependent.
Flash can be very frustrating, particularly when it behaves fine on one system and is a disaster on another. This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash Player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
    (1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.
    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here (this takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again):
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable the plugin's protected mode feature. It has security benefits, but is not compatible with all systems for some reason.
You can do that by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches:
    * Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
    * Manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/968190?page=5#answer-509209
    * Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078
Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.

  • FF has been crashing almost every day, and usually i can restore it but today, all my links are GONE! what do i do? I have version 3.6.6 none of your suggestions helped.

i am running 3.6.6 version. FF has been crashing almost daily for the past week. i have 3 tabs open on it most of the time. i usually use Google Chrome for most of the tabs/sites i use during the day. i only use FF for a game and the local radio station, sometimes 1 other tab. i had a lot of personal links in the bookmark section--taxes, music, ministries, medical and state assistance info. they were there this morning after a crash/restore, but when i got in this afternoon, the bookmarks were all gone.

    1. The message you got about the Library needing to be upgraded was bogus. There has been no new version of iPhoto 11 that runs on 10.8 in more than a year. You got that message because your Library was damaged. So, nothing to do with Apple's updates - none have applied to you for a few years anyway.
    2. Do you have a back up of your Library? The most simple way forward right now id to restore from it.
    3. If you don't - and you really should change that policy right now -  then
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Frequent crashes, almost once everyday, mostly while watching video. Suggestions?

My Macbook has been crashing almost once a day (or more), everyday. I typically only use Firefox and AIM, so I do not believe it is a load problem. However, I do use Youtube frequently and am wondering if this is a problem when compounded with Firefox. Also, it has been humid lately and thought that it might be a temperature issue.
Can anyone recommend a course of action?
    Thank you,
    Joe

    Let's start with this:
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation.  TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible;  Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided.  Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.  Other utilities are also available such as Onyx, Leopard Cache Cleaner, CockTail, and Xupport, for example.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Backuplist
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    iBackup
    JaBack
    Silver Keeper
    MimMac
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    SuperDuper!
    Synchronize Pro! X
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.

Try a hard reset first.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If that doesn't work, try downloading another app from the App Store and see if that helps.

  • Macbook pro fan making loud noises and going really fast. Now the fan doesn't work at all and my computer gets extremely hot almost instantly. Is there a way to fix it without having to pay a ton of money to have someone fix it for me?

I've had my Macbook pro for about 3 1/2 years now. It has worked great until recently. A few months ago I noticed that the fan would always run really fast when I was doing simple tasks. After a few weeks/months, the fan was still really fast but it also started to make these loud noises. Now, it only occasionally makes the loud noise if I move my computer after its been stationary for a while.
