[Solved]Skype opens files in FireFox

Hi!
How do i set skype to open the incoming files in my Thunar? It opens everything in Firefox. I use OpenBox without any DEs.

I guess that the first solution does not work because you are not starting openbox-session but just bare openbox.
The autostart.sh script is started by openbox-session command but not by openbox command.
If you don't use gdm replace:
exec openbox
with
exec openbox-session
in your .xinitrc file and then also the first solution will work.
The first solution is better because you can start skype from gmrun, launchy or by an icon launcher and it will always open your home folder with thunar.
The alias skype='DE=xfce skype' works only if you start skype from bash.

    The problem described above was with the setup file from jdownloader.org. With setup from AUR there is no such problem.

  • Pdf save file open file

    Since firefox just recently updated, .pdf files when clicked, either on email or the web would pop open a box that says save file or open file. Firefox updated and it no longer ask this anymore, it just immediately tries to download it. I don't use any .pdf add on through Firefox, I tried one today but it still doesn't help. Is there a way to turn this basic function back on without a add-on. It has never needed one before.
    Thanks.

    I was making all the changes to the Adobe Acrobat files and didn't see the one lower down called portable document format, once I changed it to ask first it now operates how it should. Thanks for the help everyone.

  • Skype opens received files with firefox [SOLVED]

    Hi guys,
    I have a problem with skype settings.
    When I receive a file and click in the skype's File Transfers window it opens firefox pointing to: file:///home/myusername
    Did someone had similar problems.
    I'm running openbox and would like to start thunar when I click on "open file" or "open file location".
    I also tried
    cd ~/.Skype/ && grep firefox . -r
    but didn't get any useful information.
    I also googled around but I didn't found any information about how to set thunar instead of firefox.
    Thank you very much for any tip or suggestion.

    Thank you again fwojciec,
    Inspired by your suggestion I looked at the xdg-open script and noticed this code:
    # Checks for known desktop environments
    # set variable DE to the desktop environments name, lowercase
    detectDE()
    if [ x"$KDE_FULL_SESSION" = x"true" ]; then DE=kde;
    elif [ x"$GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID" != x"" ]; then DE=gnome;
    elif xprop -root _DT_SAVE_MODE | grep ' = \"xfce4\"$' >/dev/null 2>&1; then DE=xfce;
    fi
    Then I just added this to my .config/openbox/autostart.sh
    export DE=xfce
    And now skype opens thunar instead of firefox.
    Maybe there are better solutions but this one just works...and I even don't have to modify my xdg-open script so I can also upgrade xdg-utils without worrying.
    Thank you again for the suggestion...

  • [Solved] Way to prevent acroread from opening pdf files in firefox?

    Hi,
    I recently installed acroread from aur and now everytime when I click on a link to a pdf-file in firefox, the acroread plugin opens the file in the browser.
    Before I installed acroread I got a dialog, where I could choose what to do with the pdf-file.
    Under Preferences->Applications I selected "Always ask" for the application type "pdf" but obviously this option is not considered.
    Thanks for any ideas.

  • Firefox will not open on my computer, even after reinstall, with no error message or when I try to run "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p. Help?

    I recently installed firefox so I could use an adblocker. It installed just fine, and it worked just fine for about three days. Then yesterday it stopped opening. I'm on a Toshiba running Windows 7. The icon highlights when I click on it, but then it stops and won't open the browser at all. When I try to run it with the manual command "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p, I get the error message, "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location." I installed it to that location, and I don't need a disk. I'm connected to the Internet just fine and my other browsers (Chrome and IE) work the same as always. But they're swamped with ads and I really was happy wih Firefox when it was opening...how can I fix this issue?

    Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
    '''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
    #Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
    #After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
    #Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    #*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    #*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
    #Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    ##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    ##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
    Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • I cannot view PDF in Firefox at the first time but once I manually open the PDF file from my local computer, I can view other PDF files via Firefox webbrowser

    I install Adobe Acrobat 9 in my laptop which runs on windows 7. I use Firefox 3.6.8 and have the problem with the PDF file. The problem is I cannot open the PDF file in Firefox web browser at the first time I launch firefox. It shows a warning box without any message. Only OK button is shown so I can close it. However, if I manage to open the PDF file from my local computer by just using adobe acrobat itself then the PDF can be opened in the Firefox web browser. I followed the instruction on the mozilla help but nothing works for me. The problem still exists. I wonder if anyone have the same problem like me and know how to solve this. Thank you so much

    Hi there!
    I cannot help you, but I think we have a common problem: We got a system here running Vista SP1 with Acrobat 9 standard on it. When we open a pdf file it works normally, but when we open another pdf file, we see the first one in that second window.
    Think that missing option to watch several files within a single window-thing messed up more than meets the eye ... but as we just purchased the 15 licenses, we have to use version 9.
    I didn't find any clues on this problem, but I will post any new hints I get.

  • Can't open pdf files with firefox

    After searching for a certain topic on Google I've tried to open the link with a pdf file, but nothing happens.
    I receive an error message as if the Proxy that we use here at the company was refusing the connection, but in fact, I've already configured it correctly. This error started after the last update to Firefox 33.0.2.
    I've already tried to change the configurations at Options > Applications > Portable Document Format with the option use Adobe Reader (default) and use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox), and also installed an Plugin "PDF Viewer", but nothing solved the problem.
    Does anyone has the same problem?
    Thanks

    ■ Use '''Tools -> Options -> Applications ->''' <br> then look under content for Adobe Acrobat forms etc;
    <br> note a choice of options is usually available
    * see [[Options window - Applications panel]]
    Firefox is of course a web browser. <br>Acrobat reader is Adobe's program used to read and display the pfd files on your computer. Other programs may be used instead of Acrobat reader. You would normally have the Acrobat program and the pdf file present on the local computer, often both on the same hard drive, if you were opening individual pdf files directly with Acrobat.
    Firefox uses a plugin so that it may use Acrobat to open pdf files and display the results within a firefox window or tab. If you do not have that plugin installed, or it is not enabled firefox may be unsure what to do with the file and offer to save it to whatever your default local download location is, without attempting to open the file in firefox.

    I can open any html file in my G5 without any trouble. Now that I am setting up my new i7, while I can open the html files using Safari, the html files will not open using Firefox. Out of curiosity, I used the latest Firefox 3.6 to open a webarchive file. The Firefox "Open File" requestor allows you to tell it to use Firefox to open the file, but it doesn't open it. Doesn't give any error. When I go through Finder, and double-click the file, it opens in Safari. When I use "Open with" in Finder itself to tell it to use Firefox, Firefox is greyed out as an application.
    Interesting. Sorry couldn't solve for you. But it may point to a shortcoming in Firefox.
