[Solved] Starcraft 2 crashe with wine bunblebee nvidia driver

After the upgrade of yesterday (2013/05/12) my starcraft II (under wine) crashes.
After a downgrade of the nvidia driver ( and linux kernel ) my SCII is running once again perfectly, so I guess there is something wrong between the new nvidia driver (319.17-2) and the following package : bumblebee (3.2.1-1), wine (1.5.30-2) .
I'm a little buzzy actually and didn't take time to check deeply why, but if someone wants some data just ask
humhumhum
Edit: the package bunmblebee has been updated and solves the problem. Thanks.

Do other GL programs work? e.g. glxgears. Is direct rendering enabled? (glxinfo | grep -i direct)

  • SOLVED: Xorg crash with 4.0.4, xorg 1.17.1-5, nvidia 352.09

    Hi,
xorg crashes for me with a segfault with these versions, first line of the backtrace mentions /usr/lib/xorg-server/Xorg (OsLookupColor+0x119) [0x594a29].
Anyone else seeing the same? I'll try with the previous NVIDIA driver in the meantime.
    Thanks
edit: Solved by using nvidia 349.16, works now.

Sorry this doesn't really help with the Xinerama problem, but since you are using the nvidia driver, have you considered using Twinview instead? You could do composite stuff too with Twinview - last I knew, Xinerama had problems with things that want to use compositing. I don't know how your setup is but if you're not set on using Xinerama, it might be an option to consider.

  • Hurry, some one must create an app to solved the crash with updates in iPad!!!

I'm deeple frustrate right now, because is unable to make the apps update in my iPad (the one) -This crash is happening since several days ago. I am a (long) list of several applications to updating, but when I make the intent, the system show a message who says that its is impossible to make the update!. I receive a suggestion for some people in the forums, to delete all this "problematic" apps (!?) and then reinstall again, one by one... This procedure maybe   resolve my issue, but, anyway... I could make the effort of annotate the name of all aplications that I could not updating, then delete all of them, then, instale all again... But the iPad come of our life for SOLVED our problems, not for INCREASED it... I think that this crash must be solved by the iTunes Store as soon as possible!!!!!

  • [Solved] Starcraft 2 and wine

Hey, I was trying to install SC2 with wine on 64 bit arch, I followed the instructions on the wiki and got SC to install and update all the way, but when I run

I read I should install lib32-nvidia-utils(because they were different versions), but this conflicts with lib32-libgl (Which is says to install in the wiki).
When I install lib32-libgl and remove lib32-nvidia-utils I get an error in an alert that says:
"Failed to initialize DirectX. You may need to reinstall DirectX...etc"
Any idea what I should be doing to troubleshoot this?
Thanks for the help in advance guys.

  • [SOLVED] Warcraft 3 (with Wine) does not work in Arch

Okay. I played a lot Warcraft III The Frozen Throne with Wine in Ubuntu. When I started to use Arch, of course I wanted to continue playing.
But, when I started the game for the first time it gets into main screen (with 800x600 resolution, it is default when you start the game for the first time, my xorg.conf supports it) but freezes after about 2 secs. And I have to kill X. But now it even does not start (it changes resolution from 1920x1200 to 800x600, but does not continue)! I'm using KDE4.1 - is this somehow related to nVidia driver bug (I'm using nVidia GeForce 8800 Ultra)?
    Arch 64bit KDE4.1
Wine 1.1.3 (installed with this, but also tested this - same problem)
    WC3 patched 1.22 - installed MS Visual C 2005 Runtimes in order to get it work (see http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p … n&iId=3126 )
I'm running the game from NTFS partition.
Edit: Tested with emulated desktop. Problem remains.
Edit2: Solved problem with 32bit Arch. Works like a charm!

I have (nLited) WinXP for games. But WC3 works fine with Wine, that's why I want to play it with Linux. It's faster just click a shortcut without rebooting.

I don't prefer consoles. And FPS games (which I play most) are crap on consoles.

Let me guess: You are using hardware acceleration set to "Emulation" and Driver emulation with alsa.
For some reason WarCraft III doesn't like those (Hardware acceleration in particular...) Set Hardware acceleration to Basic or Full and the game will launch...
It's set to "Full". And as I said, game launches but freezes after a few secs. But music continues even if a screen is frozen.

  • Problem with regular crash with Xorg and nvidia

    Hello!
I am using a archlinux distribution for about 5 years. There was sometime problems but now it is very unstable. Every reboot I have a crash of Xorgs and with this a crash of system. Log:

About 1 month ago it looks like restart of Xorgs when I press enter key. Alway ENTER key. After some updates/nvidia driver combinations - doesn't change anything. Now after fresh reinstall (well crashes destroys my ext3 filesystem an I need to reinstal the root file system) there are crashes, but now, every freeze I have to restart system. Now I am switchingo into ubuntu, I will try to check sometimes if something changed.
Cashes repeats every reboot from... maby 3-4 months. Now I can say my system is not stable, I use this in work - so this situation is really bad.

  • [SOLVED]Xorg crash with some applications when using double screen

    Hi,
I have a TV that I often use to watch dvd from my computer, and to do that I've set it up as a second screen in my xorg.conf, but on a daily basis I use a xorg.conf file with only my main screen. Up until last week I was able to use my second screen without problem, but yesterday I tried and it crashed instantly.
So I ran a few tests, amsn and vlc seems to be 2 applications that makes X crash (though there might be other, but I seem to be able to use chromium firefox and ktorrent just fine).
My WM is not to blame, I've launched X without any WM and vlc still makes X crash.
The problem does not happen when using a single screen.
I thought that my xorg.conf might be the problem, so I used nvidia-settings to create a new one, but that didn't change anything.
Here are my xorg.conf used for dual screen, and the logfile from the Xorg crash:

Sorry this doesn't really help with the Xinerama problem, but since you are using the nvidia driver, have you considered using Twinview instead? You could do composite stuff too with Twinview - last I knew, Xinerama had problems with things that want to use compositing. I don't know how your setup is but if you're not set on using Xinerama, it might be an option to consider.

  • Has anyone got the B500 to work with Ubuntu? (nvidia driver problems)

In two weeks, I have been completely unable to get the nvidia driver working with the B500 on Linux. No matter what I try to do, the X server doesn't start, and my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file ends with "fatal server error: no screens found." I have tried feeding a custom modeline to xorg.conf, explicitly calling an EDID file which I extracted from the Windows installation, using the upstream nvidia driver installer, using the official repository driver, and probably a bunch of other stuff that I'm not recalling right now.
    Versions I've tried this on:
    Kubuntu 10.04, 32- and 64-bit
    Ubuntu 10.04, 32-bit
    Kubuntu 9.10, 32-and 64-bit
I am stumped. Has anyone successfully gotten this to work?
    best,
    -p.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Solved with the kind assistance of paulricardomc on the Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1477507
    Short version of the fix:
    1. Extract the edid from the Windows partition using softMCCS, saving as edid.bin
    2. Save the edid.bin file in /etc/X11 (or wherever you like)
    3. Include the following in the device section of your xorg.conf:
    "Option"  "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0"
    "Option" "CustomEDID" "DFP-0:/etc/X11/edid.bin"
Fire up X and you're good to go.

  • Re: Satellite Z30-A with Win 8.1 - Driver update confusion

    Hello,
I have a question regarding driver updates. Currently, Windows Update recommends me to update the audio driver (important) and the LAN driver (optional). Toshiba Service Station, however, doesnt offer new drivers for these devices.
My question is whether I should install these updates (particularly the important one) or if they are not approved by Toshiba yet?
Moreover, does anyone have a changelog for the new 3.8 Bios?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the quick replies! I was just tempted because one of the updates was classified as "important", for whatever reason, which are normally those updates that should be installed (e.g. for security reasons). In fact you are right, I dont have any problems with my laptop.
Sorry, forgot to state the model: Z30-A with Win 8.1
Any ideas about the bios update?
    Thanks!

  • [(un)-SOLVED] BIOS update with wine?

    Hi all,
I'd like to know if it is safe to update the BIOS via Wine. The problem is that my BIOS update does not run from DOS and I don't have any Vista partition on my HD (the BIOS update is only for Vista it seems). However, the program launch with Wine.
    Thanks
EDIT: Nevermind... Wine can't reach the BIOS.
Although, if anyone has an idea as to how to upgrade a BIOS with an utility made for Vista... Please tell me.

I reflashed the firmware in my DVD writer via WINE the other day, without really thinking. About halfway through the process I came to my senses and spent the rest of it biting my nails and holding my breath. But it worked. (Didn't solve the problem I was having with it, mind you, but the thing still works as well as it ever did.)
I'd never try a BIOS update, though. Too risky even under "real" Windows, unless it's absolutely necessary.

  • [SOLVED] - WOW III with wine - Blank Screen

I am trying to set up Warcraft III - Frozen Throne with wine.
I have Arch x86_64 installed on a Intel Core 2 Duo with an nVidia 8600 GT GPU. Kernel Version is 2.6.35
I have not installed WOW III the usual way. I am trying to run the installed files present in my Windows NTFS partition directly using opengl mode. When I execute
    wine /media/96BC10BABC1096B9/Program\ Files/Warcraft\ III/Frozen\ Throne.exe -opengl
I get a blank screen with only the mouse visible. Even if I use wineserver -k to kill all wine tasks from another runlevel, nothing happens. I have resort to restarting gdm.
I have been unable to find any log. It is possible that I have not installed all required opengl libraries, as I am not fully aware of what is required. Pleas guide me.
    Thanks,
    Apoorv

I assume this is due to an update I have made in the past, but since it has been a few updates since last time I used word, I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if so, to which version they had to downgrade to fix this?
EDIT: I browsed to /var/cache/pacman/pkg to see which wine version I could downgrade to, so I tried version 1.3.29 and now word works again. adding wine to ignorepkg now...

Thanks for your reply! I don't think, I use dmix, the .asoundrc is some default one (might actually be a pretty old one since I tend to carry my /home partition over to new system installs). I tried to remove it with no luck. pulseaudio-alsa has been already installed with following /etc/asound.conf:
    # Use PulseAudio by default
    pcm.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    hint {
    show on
description "Default ALSA Output (currently PulseAudio Sound Server)"
    ctl.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    # vim:set ft=alsaconf:
Since nothing changed after removing .asoundrc, maybe this asound.conf has been used all the time rather than the .asoundrc?
Concerning the tsched=0 thing, the driver is snd_hda_intel (with snd_hda_codec_realtek), the card is an ALC887-VD. The Alsa page you mentioned states that indeed some cards with snd_intel_hda (seems to be the same as snd_hda_intel) driver have problems with timer-based scheduling, but doesn't specify which ones exactly.
So now I'm following your last hint and building wine-multimedia. It had lib32-libcl as make dependency which made conflicts with lib32-catalyst-utils, so I now try building wine-multimedia with lib32-libcl removed from the makedepends list, let's see whether it builds, it takes a while.  Will report back as soon as I have any news.

  • Starcraft crashes on wine after updating to 1.14

I installed wine 0.9.14 because it's truely less laggy than 0.9.27 with starcraft. It worked well with starcraft/broodwar 1.05. I downloaded the 1.14 patch on a mirror from blizzard.com since battle net didn't wan't me to download it(crash).
I then updated to 1.14. When I tried to run 'wine starcraft.exe', it gave me this error :

  • Empty first installer screen for Starcraft 2 with wine

    Hi there
I'm trying to install Starcraft 2 (release) on my linux system.
I'm seeing on google that almost all the people got it up and working.
    Although I'm having a problem.
I'm using this tutorial to get it to work :
    http://jeffhoogland.blogspot.com/2010/0 … -wine.html
The problem is that the first install screen comes empty (no buttons) as you can see in this screenshot.

The borders are already reported as a bug in the winhq bugzilla.
I tried to search for it in google with no luck.
If anyone could give me hint, it would be greately appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    This bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22306
refers to a solution where you edit directx.c
I have no clue where directx.c is located or how to find it since everytime I enable strigi file indexer it indexes the files then disables itself.
Any suggestions would be appreciated since the bug thread is already closed.
    Try this (as root):
    # updatedb && locate directx
Is direct rendering active? It should look something like this :
    $ glxinfo | grep direct
    direct rendering: Yes
    GL_EXT_Cg_shader, GL_EXT_depth_bounds_test, GL_EXT_direct_state_access,

What is your console output? Is libjpeg installed? Did you use unhide when mounting the dvd? Try copying all files on the dvd to a folder in your home directory to make sure that you can read all of them.

If you're unable to make it work, you may want to try installing with Blizzard Downloader instead.
