Btw, I intentionally deleted the .local/share/Steam directory this morning while troubleshooting this problem.  It recreated the directory the next time I tried to run it.  So, everything in there should be default.

  • [SOLVED] Steam will not launch unless computer is rebooted. Segfault.

    Hi everyone.
    [SOLVED]
    I have recently been having problems with steam. It will start, but only the first time after I reboot the computer. Every time after that I get a Segmentation Fault. I have searched around and the closest issue I found to mine was in this thread. So I eventually gave in and did a reinstall of my system, although I carried over my home partition. Unfortunately I am still having the same problem.
    I should also mention that I have tried doing a "steam --reset" as well as renaming the .local/share/Steam folder so that it had to build a new one. Neither of those attempts changed anything as far as I can tell. It seems like people diagnosing issues similar to this one think that it has something to do with video drivers. I have the intel driver, and the lib32-mesa-dri installed. Could it be that the processor/video device is just going bad? I would really appreciate your help! Thanks.

    whoops wrote:
    Did you check if everything is ok with the stuff steam likes to keep in /tmp ("steam_chrome_shmem" or something, maybe more)?
    ( Last time I had a similar looking segfault that kept "disappearing after reboot", it was because steam doesn't have access to that folder after it is created by a different user. Could be unrelated though - steam output is a mess and I don't remember it clearly )
    edit: While you're at it, you might also want to check if your /tmp is simply full when the problem occurs.
    It looks like everything is fine in /tmp. The steam_chorme_shmem file is there and owned by my user. It's has 755 permissions, so everyone has read and execute. And I still have 1.3 GB available in /tmp. Is that what you meant when you said, "check if everything is okay"? Is there anything else? Thanks for the quick response!

  • [Solved]Steam - OpenGL GLX problem after update

    When I open steam it gives me this prompt:
    "OpenGL GLX context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems.
    For more information visit https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9938-EYZB-7457."
    I had this problem before, but I solved it with this command:
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1
    But now after newest update, nothing solves this problem. And also I can do nothing about steam updates, beacause steam updates itself. I am using mesa-git drivers for AMD. Everything was working fine before the latest update. The command I shown to you doesn't help now. Steam now launches itself,but all 3D games crash on startup. The output of command glxinfo|grep rendering is direct rendering: yes.

    from the steam output :
    libGL error: unable to load driver: r600_dri.so
    libGL error: driver pointer missing
    libGL error: failed to load driver: r600
    libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
    libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
    Those libraries are in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri , both mesa-git 66716 and mesa-dri 10.3.5 symlink them to the r300_dri.so lib in the same folder.
    ( this is intentional due to recent changes in mesa).
    To verify whether you have an OpenGL problem or a steam problem, try running native opengl applications like Xonotic or Oolite (both are in repos) .

  • [SOLVED] Steam causing Xorg to crash

    I've spent some extensive time on this now; fresh install of Antergos (a direct derivative of Arch)
    I'm running Nvidia blobs, with the steam-libs package from the alucryd-multilib repository.
    I have so far followed the Archwiki in doing the following:
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1
    From there, I have tried running steam both with and without it's runtime, via the environment variable STEAM_RUNTIME.
    No matter what I do, steam segfaults Xorg:
    STEAM_RUNTIME=0:
    steam.log:
    No environment set

    I'm pretty much at my wits end here, nothing seems to affect what's going on...
    EDIT:
    While trying to fix this issue, I had also updated to xorg-server-git as per the recommendation in one of the threads I had seen on this issue.
    Somehow, by doing this I had mesa-libgl and had overwritten the nvidia GLX module. Reinstalling the nvidia drivers fixed the problem, steam now launches fine.

I went through the same process in Edgy Eft (I don't currently use Arch, I'm just browsing the forums here as Arch looks like a very nice distro), but it's worth it as even though the compositing code is new it's very quick and stable.
    All the necessary stuff is supposedly in the main repos. Arch is already using 7.1, the CVS openchrome drivers are in Extra (and crash just like the via and unichrome ones), etc.
    (What fixes are you talking about though? There are unpatched bugs in the current version of the server that prevent EXA from working properly?)

    That's interesting. I've used EXA before, and didn't find it to provide any noticable increase in the speed of compositing effects, but it definitely didn't mess up fonts like that. If I get it working I guess I'll be able to tell you if it's specific to radeon...

    Okay, thanks for clearing that up.

  • [SOLVED] Steam won't open, libGL errors

    I made a post about this yesterday but I was using Antergos. I am on Arch linux now (was easier than I thought ), kernel 3.18.6.1-ARCH with xf86-video-ati and everything has been fully updated. Ive installed Steam from the multilib repository, and upon launching steam in a terminal I get these errors
    Running Steam on arch rolling 64-bit
    STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
    Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(0_client)
    libGL error: unable to load driver: radeonsi_dri.so
    libGL error: driver pointer missing
    libGL error: failed to load driver: radeonsi
    libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
    libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
    What can I do to fix this? Am I missing something?
    Thanks

    Alright so with the help from a user comment, http://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/co … rom_steam/ I located the files
    libstdc++
    and
    libgcc_s
    and removed them. After that I was able to load up steam. Now because I tried a crapload of things I don't know if doing this will really solve the problem, it did for me, so hopefully it will for others. Please report back!
    Remove libstdc++

    There may be more of these files you have to remove, so try these commands first, then run updatedb command try and locate any of these librarires again. (If you get command not found when running updatedb you need to install the mlocate package)
    I also ran
    rm ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1
    at some point but I dobut that does anything. Steam replaces these files very frequently so I would make sure to save these in a document, or a .sh file so you can just execute them whenever they come back.
    HAPPY GAMING!
    Edit: heh, something pointing this was out was in wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/st … ime_issues I didn't notice it the 3 times or so I looked...

  • [Solved] LXDE missing window borders (or decoratioins, widget?)

    Hello,
    The LXDE runs fine on my newly built arch for a couple of days, and then I must have done something (e.g. upgraded or uninstalled some packages) and now I can still log into LXDE by using slim login manager or startx command, but none of the applications will have the window borders and I am not able to move the application window around or minimize/resize the window.
    Here is my .xinitrc file
    [sgeuser@sge00 ~]$ cat .xinitrc
    #!/bin/sh
    # ~/.xinitrc
    # Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
    if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f

    # exec startkde
    # exec startxfce4

    Thanks. The problem is solved.
    Both openbox and lxsession were installed. The only thing missing was the missing libsvg library. Here is the relevant entries in /var/log/pacman.log (when I installed the libsvg package just now)
    # egrep -ri svg /var/log/pacman.log
    [2013-09-02 14:52] [PACMAN] Running 'pacman --color auto -S extra/librsvg'
    [2013-09-02 14:52] [PACMAN] installed librsvg (1:2.37.0-1)
    so somehow it wasn't needed on a working lxde since 08/28 when the system was installed, and right after 3.10.10 kernel upgrade(Sat., 8/31), it is required to have the windows manager working properly. 3.10.10 linux kernel change log from https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel … og-3.10.10 did not return anything relevant.
    Anyway thanks for the input and I'm glad that the problem was solved quickly.

  • [SOLVED] nvidia, missing openGL extensions

    I am trying to get steam to work properly. Some games run but their performance sucks. Others complain about missing extensions and never start. I have gtx 770 and nvidia driver installed so this should not be the case.
    What I have installed
    $ pacman -Qs nvidia
    local/libcl 1.1-4
    OpenCL library and ICD loader from NVIDIA
    local/libvdpau 1.1-1
    Nvidia VDPAU library
    local/nvidia 346.59-1
    NVIDIA drivers for linux
    local/nvidia-utils 346.59-1
    NVIDIA drivers utilities
    $ pacman -Qs mesa
    local/glu 9.0.0-3
    Mesa OpenGL Utility library
    local/lib32-libtxc_dxtn 1.0.1-5
    S3 Texture Compression (S3TC) library for Mesa (32-bit)
    local/lib32-mesa 10.5.3-1
    an open-source implementation of the OpenGL specification (32-bit)
    local/lib32-mesa-libgl 10.5.3-1
    Mesa 3-D graphics library (32-bit)
    local/libtxc_dxtn 1.0.1-6
    S3 Texture Compression (S3TC) library for Mesa
    local/mesa 10.5.3-1
    an open-source implementation of the OpenGL specification
    local/mesa-demos 8.2.0-4
    Mesa demos and tools
    local/mesa-libgl 10.5.3-1
    Mesa 3-D graphics library
    All new processors have integrated graphics so I checked which one is used.

    I believe I saw in steam logs
    libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
    libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
    but I can see it no longer. It must be that I have this library installed.
    $ find / -mount -name '*swrast*'
    /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/kms_swrast_dri.so
    /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/swrast_dri.so
    /usr/lib32/xorg/modules/dri/kms_swrast_dri.so
    /usr/lib32/xorg/modules/dri/swrast_dri.so
    You can get it too by installing proper packages
    $ pacman -Qo /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/swrast_dri.so
    /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/swrast_dri.so belongs to mesa 10.5.3-1
    $ pacman -Qo /usr/lib32/xorg/modules/dri/swrast_dri.so
    /usr/lib32/xorg/modules/dri/swrast_dri.so belongs to lib32-mesa 10.5.3-1
    I do not know why your steam tries to load nouveau. Perhaps you have not installed the packages I mentioned in my previous post. nvidia blacklists nouveau. Make sure you have exactly the same state I have described and u will get steam, at least, starting up.

    Anyone also encounter this? Is it a packaging issue? Thanks.

    Sorry guys, I had a problem updating "extra" repo, and did a partial updates.
    Re-sync the repository solved the issue, thanks.

  • [SOLVED] Steam troubles. Segfault after login.

    Hello. I'm usually pretty good about solving my own problems, but this one has me beat. So, yay, first post.
    Recently my nephew brought me his computer for a nuke and pave, and since he doesn't have a legit Windows key and I don't use Windows anymore I decided to install Arch on his machine, since it's what I use and I'm their go-to tech support.
    Unfortunately I'm having trouble getting Steam to run correctly on his machine. It will start up, update/verify install, show the login screen, and after authenticating it promptly dies.
    Some details:
    This is a somewhat fresh install. I provisioned it from within a Vbox VM on my own workstation and then moved the HDD to the actual box.
    Full system update was done just today. Problem existed prior and persists after.
    Proprietary GPU drivers are not being used.
    lspci shows the video adapter to be: 07:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G71 [GeForce 7900 GS] (rev a1)
    I've already removed Steam's bundled libs, as per the wiki.
    I've tried steam --reset and rm -rf ~/.steam and removing and reinstalling the steam package. No dice.
    The presentation of problems detailed here seemed pretty similar so I installed lib32-dbus but this did not resolve the issue.
    I'm not checking remember password. This bug seems to be unrelated

    Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

    So then I tried native runtime STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam with the help of the alucryd-multilib repo. The output seems to be identical to the above. Output of DEBUGGER=gdb STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam available here.
    Throwing that into Google yields nothing of interest that I can find.
    Perhaps hardware failure? But my nephew played Dust AET for a while and it ran fine.
    I'm at a loss.

    I'm also in a similar situation, surprised that it took this long for someone to post the problem here (it's been at least a week since this started)...
    There's a report here:
    https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam- … -67916730\
    I also get a segfault when running steam with STEAM_RUNTIME disabled now.
    Here's my command line output: https://gist.github.com/uberscientist/0 … 26de094ec5
    With STEAM_RUNTIME libs it runs fine (however TF2 fails to start...)
    If I can provide any more useful information let me know. I am running Arch Linux, systemd (so OpenRC probably has nothing to do with it), x86_64.

    I was about to install amache. I've installed it using yaourt -S ampache. Installation went fine. But when I go to IP/ampache I see 2 errors: Mysql for PHP [ ERROR ] This test checks to see if you have the mysql extensions loaded for PHP. These are required for Ampache to work.
    and PHP ICONV Support [ ERROR ] This test checks to make sure you have Iconv support installed. Iconv support is required for Ampache
    What am I missing here? I just can't find the packages that would cover those errors. Any ideas what do I have to install in order for this to work?

    Maybe this would help someone to help me
    I don't know how but I forgot to uncomment extension=iconv.so line in the php.ini file to get iconv support for ampache, so now I only have one error. And this is Mysql for PHP:    ERROR. Now this one I have no idea how to solve.

  • [SOLVED] Steam failing to install

    Hey guys, my first post here though I've been using Arch and lurking here for over a year now. I haven't ever found the need to post since usually I'm able to resolve all issues with the magic of the Search function, however this problem has stumped me. I've been trying to install Steam for the first time, and always run into this error after the initial install when trying to launch Steam:

    This is followed by a popup window from Steam:
    This happens no matter what I use to install Steam. ie. I've tried using wine, winetricks, playonlinux, and all of these run into the same problem. I have tried reinstalling wine (after removing winetricks and playonlinux) and deleting the .wine directory multiple times. I have installed the required fonts (as far as I know), have all of the optional wine dependencies and wine_gecko installed. I'm thinking I'm missing something obvious, but I just can't see it. I initially followed the instructions on the wiki to install Steam, and after those failed I've been Googling and trying out everything I find but to no avail.
    Does anybody have any ideas?

  • [Solved] Steam Displaying Oddly on All Workspaces (Openbox)

    Recently I've had Steam behave oddly on all non-steam workspaces. I have it on workspace one, but it is showing through other applications. If I scroll over to the browser workspace, steam will display the main steam window through firefox window, or through various other applications (such as a file browser). It does this almost 100% of the time, and it only started happening recently, but I don't recall any large changes. It does not do this on any other WM/DE that I have tried either (Gnome, Fluxbox, Cinnamon, etc). It seems it may be an issue with Openbox exclusively.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Or even pointing into the direction of the issue so I can do my own research. But I'm at a loss currently as to what I can look for.

    I quote myself from the bspwm issue list.
    one 'workaround' is to use a compositor (e.g. compton, xcompmgr etc.) I think it's nvidias fault, seems to happen with different wm's not just bspwm.
    I'm using compton. Whithout compton running i have the same problems.
    Awesome, thanks! I just enabled compton, and immediately it looks like things are working as normal again. This is such an odd issue. I hope nvidia fixes this soon. I'm really glad that I did not roll back anything, however. That would have been a tedious process. Thanks for the advice!
    Edit: I'll mark this as solved after an hour or so, just to make sure it doesn't sneak back up and bite me.

    Hmm, might the Steam runtime be messing with the video drivers? Try running Steam without it:
    STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam
    It works. What's the steam runtime ?
    edit: It tells me that some 32libs are missing. I'll try the Rm fix.

  • [SOLVED] wxgtk missing?

    The output is half Spanish, but I think it's self explanatory. I tried to install gnuplot, but one of the dependencies, wxgtk, is missing, even in the repos.
    # pacman -Syu gnuplot
    :: Sincronizando las bases de datos de paquetes...
    core está actualizado
    extra está actualizado
    community está actualizado
    :: Iniciando actualización completa del sistema...
    resolviendo dependencias...
    atención: no se pudo resolver "wxgtk", una dependencia de "gnuplot"
    :: El siguiente paquete no se puede actualizar debido a dependencias que no se pudieron resolver:
    gnuplot
    # pacman -Ss wxgtk
    extra/mkvtoolnix-gtk 5.5.0-1

    drcouzelis wrote:... you can just download and install the package from here (x86_64): http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra … /download/
    If you read my last post just besides what you quoted:
    cedricmc wrote:I simply updated with -U to the corresponding url in archlinux.org and then installed gnuplot.
    With respect to trying it,
    drcouzelis wrote:Well... TRY IT!
    I can no longer do so because, as I said, I solved my problem by installing wxgtk from the web, therefore any search I'ld do will return a positive answer (eventhough if the package is not in the repositories). If I posted this is not because I seek help, but so other people are aware there is something going (wr)on(g).

  • Missing libc.a

    Hi,
    I'm trying to build dyld from (http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/dyld/dyld-97.1/) and getting a missing linker error about
    /usr/local/lib/system/libc.a
    I have g++/gcc 4.0 installed from xcode 3.2.3. Not sure what else I'm missing and after 2 days of searching, haven't been able to find an answer.
    Any pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks

    Hi
    If the libc.so.1 file is missing, you would either need to re-install or
    mount this file system from somewhere else and recopy the library
    file.
