[solved] Synaptics touchpad scrolling not working...

I have the device set up as follows in xorg.conf

It works well, but I get no scrolling on the sides.  Any ideas?  I'm using KDE if that's of any relevance.

and here's my entire Xorg.conf file.  You will see that I have been playing with it some... with little/no success.  Due to viewing the log I saw "Alps touchpad sets device to /dev/input/event6" so I tried changing my device to that with the same result, no scroll.

I understand that your TouchPad is not working correctly since you upgraded to Windows 10.  I did some research and came up with a couple different documents that may help you with the TouchPad. 
     1. HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10)). 2. Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8): You can customize and adjust how you scroll using one finger or two fingers and how the TouchPad or ClickPad responds to gestures near the edge. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. The Windows 10 drivers will become available on the HP Drivers and Downloads Page for your product as they become available to HP.     Can you help? I am having a problem with my touchpad scroll. It stopped working after upgrade to Windows 10.  I have an HP G62 Laptop and the touchpad listed is Synaptics PS-2 port.  Can you please provide information on how to fix?

I understand that your TouchPad is not working correctly since you upgraded to Windows 10.  I did some research and came up with a couple different documents that may help you with the TouchPad. 
     1. HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10)). 2. Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8): You can customize and adjust how you scroll using one finger or two fingers and how the TouchPad or ClickPad responds to gestures near the edge. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. The Windows 10 drivers will become available on the HP Drivers and Downloads Page for your product as they become available to HP. There are some drivers available there currently.  Have a great day!

    I tried to hotplug my touchpad with X.org/HAL but to no avail :(

    If you have a Synaptics Touchpad, can you check if you have a One Finger / Two Finger Scrolling feature under Mouse Properties.

  • Lenovo B560 touchpad scroll not working on Windows 7

    As the title says, the vertical touch-scroll is not working in certain programs. It works in my browser, but not with OneNote or PDFs. It also works on Microsoft Word. The touch scroll actually did start working for a few days randomly, but then went back to not working. I didn't update anything during either of those times. When I do attempt to use the touch scroll, a cursor icon appears that looks like a little scroll bar.
    I have tried updating the drivers, which did not work. I have made sure all setting are correct and that touch scrolling is enabled. This problem is really driving me nuts, so any suggestions are appreciated.

    Hi Kukari. If you are experiencing the same issue on the same computer in the same operating system, unfortunately there are no Windows 8.1 drivers available for the HP Pavilion dm4-3050us Entertainment Notebook on the HP driver download page.
    HP offers version 16.2.10.12 which you can try to reinstall (if you have not).

    Synaptics offers version 17.0.19, although it may not be compatible with your TouchPad.

    If the loss of functionality occurred after the Windows 8.1 update, you can either wait to see if the appropriate drivers are released for your notebook, or revert back to Windows 8.0.

    Scrolling a web page from the touchpad on my laptop (IBM T42, quite old) does not work in Firefox (the page sits still). I have tried the remedies suggested in response to questions from two other users but with no effect.     Try to modify the ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled pref on the about:config page from the default value -1 to 0 or 1 to see if that makes the touch pad work.

  • Touchpad scrolling not working since v16.0.2 upgrade.... All other Windows apps are fine. Scrolling even works in Acrobat Reader plug-in within Firefox.

    Tried rolling back to a previous version to no avail. Seems the new version has made some permanent changes to the system.

    Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

    Hmmm, Norton extensions are broken again in Firefox 4.0.1. It seems that Norton didn't allow for Firefox 4.0 security updates when they updated their Firefox extension for Firefox 4.0. Norton says they'll have a fix in two weeks. A Norton user posted a fix in this forum thread.

  • My Laptop TOUCHPAD [Synaptics​] multi touch not working on startup

    My Laptop is HP Pavilion DV6 - 7040TX
    It is working nicely, I noticed one thing. That the multi touch functionality in the touchpad is not working on Windows start up. (Multi touch - Two finger pinch, there finger ....) ie.  Only single touch is working, I can drag the cursor, select and click.  When I open the Synaptics settings from the Cpanel, the other features are working fine, doesn't make a difference when I closed that settings tab.
    This is my issue, some of my friends bought this very same Laptop and they don't seem to have this problem at all. Please help me out of this.

    i had the same problem. what solved this for me was to simply go to device manager and under mice and other pointing devices uninstall the touchpad, i had a usb mouse handy just in case i needed it, but then i restarted the laptop and it auto reinstalled touchpad for me and then all options worked on startup.

    I understand that your Touchpad on the HP ProBook 4540s running Windows 8 is not working. I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure, I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums, since this is a commercial product.     I am not sure if this can be a good solution but maybe its worth to try it:
    1. Download the latest touchpad software from here:

    2. Remove the old software
    3. Reinstall the downloaded software
    4. Go into your mouse properties and check if everything is configured (especially the scroll function)

  • Touchpad Buttons Not Working

    I purchased this Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5102 last week, I installed Windows 10 last night.  After installing Windows 10 the touchpad did not work.  I have since fixed that issue.  However, now the buttons for the touchpad are not working and I'm unable to find a solution to this issue. I am able to use a wireless mouse for functionality, so that helps, however, this is a very hindersome problem...  Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Hi I´m not sure if this gives any guide but this what I have done to "Win 10 + touchpad problems". I have a Satellite P30 W-B which is brand new. I installed Win 10 yeasterday and my Touchpad didnt work any good after that, I only had the cursor function and a click function working, no right click or so. I checkad all possible solutions here and there and what I finally did was to uninstall the ELAN tocuhpad driver and a ree-start. I thought the touchpad would be dead after that but it works fine! Now its a MS softwere instead automaticly, quite old. Now it works like before. THe ELAN driver came with he Win 10 package. I might have lost some functions incoperated in the ELAN driver like scroll or so but I wont install any new driver unless its working properly with Win 10 so I can wait for that. I hope this can be something for the moment.

    I see you are having issues getting your printer to be recognized.  I would be happy to help you with that!
    First, I would suggest disconnecting the USB cable, and Uninstalling the Printer Software.
    Once it is uninstalled, reinstall the software.  Be sure not to plug the USB cable back in until the software prompts you to connect it.  Also, when plugging the USB back in, I would suggest plugging it into a USB 2.0 port, not a 3.0 port.

    I am using gnome 2.28 and i never had any problem with my touchpad: I actually cannot recall having updated before this issue came out..... just, suddenly, the touchpad is not working... no movement, no clicking... nothing at all.....
    I am using an external useb mouse........ i am also using hotplugging (no xorg.conf).... any idea? Not having mouse is quite frustrating

    that's odd..
    does the touchpad works on login screen?
    (mine did it there, but no in the desktop)
    is it enabled in Bios option?
    did you try erasing and re-installing xf86-input-synaptics?
    pacman -Rsn xf86-input-synaptics, and then pacman -S xf86-input-synaptics
    just giving you ideas.. 'cause i don't know what can be the cause
