[SOLVED] Tear Free feature on Catalyst 13.1 causes 30 fps

I've observed a strange thing with latest Catalyst drivers.
Version from old official packages catalyst-dkms-13.1-2 and catalyst-utils-13.1-5 works almost normally (on XServer 1.13.3).
But in later Catalyst versions, including catalyst-test-13.6-3 from AUR, Tear Free Desktop option causes 30 fps.
Without this option fps is normal (60 with VSync enabled), but causes unwanted effect in video and games.
Hardware: AMD Radeon HD 6450.
UPDATE: FPS with Tear Free is normal (60) in fullscreen windows.

  • Solved : Turn Windows features on or off is blank or empty while opening

Successfully solved : Turn windows features on or off blank fix
If you are going to enable or disable or installing any feature in windows 7, you have to do the setup through “Turn Windows features on or off” in
    Programs and Features.
When you click on it, Windows Features dialog will appear asking you to “Please wait” and it will start searching for a list of windows features such
as games, indexing service, internet information services (IIS) and etc that you can turn on or off. Windows Features is actually pretty much the same as Add/Remove Windows Component in Windows XP. You can also run Windows Features by typing optionalfeatures.exe
    at run or command prompt.
    ISSUE:
In Windows 7 while going to enable “ Turn Windows features on or off “ in programs and features left side option the dialog it will be came out empty
    or blank.
Normally you can able to see “please wait” initially after it tries to list out all the features, but if the machine having issue then it totally shows blank.
For this issue Microsoft has created a knowledge base 931712 to acknowledge the problem and also provided 2 solutions to resolve this issue. but this solution is didn't work & it will not rectify this issue.
    SOLUTION:
Download System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft and install the machine. Please select OS compatible package(OS & supporting bit
    version) and download the file.
    Article page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821?wa=wsignin1.0
    Download Link : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132
    Tool Name:
    System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821) [November 2012] - Windows6.1-KB947821-v25-x86.msu
(System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and
    Windows Server 2008)
once successfully installed then you can go to >control panel >programs and features > and click the left side option “ Turn Windows features
    on or off” and check.
If it’s not again listed please restart the machine then check.
    After it will work fine.
This is what I faced and fixed this issue after long way through Google help.

  • [Solved] Linux 3.8.8 = 3.9.2 causes XBMC's NFS feature to fail

    Hey guys.
Upgrading from Linux 3.8.8 => 3.9.2 cause the "Connect to a NFS share" feature in the XBMC application to fail with the error "RPC Packet not accepted by the server"
Mounting the share via "# mount -t nfs4 192.168.1.100:/home/evan/multimedia multimedia" works fine without a problem.
I'm trying to discover what has changed in the kernel to cause this to suddenly stop working.
I have a thread open on the XBMC forums for this aswell.
I looked through the kernel change logs and saw a few things relating to NFS, but nothing obvious.

Looks like this has been fixed for libnfs upstream.
I've marked the libnfs package as out of date, but for anyone that needs this now, here's a PKGBUILD file
    Marking as solved.

  • [SOLVED]Are X11 and AMD catalyst drivers friends again?

last time i installed linux on my laptop X11 had dropped support fro amd catalyst drivers (proprietary video card drivers), did amd do something about it? did X11 team reconsider? can i use the catalyst drivers on X11 again now?  my laptop and it's stupid APU or "dual graphics" aren't playing so nice with the open source radeon drivers.
Last edited by rabcor (2013-06-20 19:16:00)

If wine supported skype, i would be more dead set on using linux than using the amd proprietary drivers.
The reason this isn't a big deal to me is mostly because i only use this laptop for 3 things, regardless of OS. Teamspeak 3, Skype, Playing Videos.
I have it set up on a dual boot because neither windows nor linux seem to be reliable on this laptop, the reason is hardware-side, this APU is driving me nuts.
The reason i'm having problems with the radeon drivers is that even if i set my computer to disable the "switchable graphics" on boot it sometimes seems to randomly re-enable it without even notifying me. The reason this is bad is because the switchable graphics cause my laptopt to overheat. If this happens in windows it usually just enters hibernation mode while the heat levels are just barely critical, in linux however it keeps running for a while at critical levels before it'll finally just overeat. I'm hoping that the AMD proprietary drivers can help me solve this on the linux side.
Whichever operating system i can manage to make stop ever using the switchable graphics (thus preventing all overheating) will be the one i will use in the end, but i'm not in any big rush, windows is working decently for me on the laptop right now, and i can patiently wait for the amd proprietary drivers to support X again, since i  don't interact much with the computer at all anyways. Using linux would mostly just be to make the laptop look better. Linux seems to be the more likely one to succeed with this task in the end however (because i can optimize/customize it a whole lot more than i ever could windows, and because i'm scared of updating the catalyst drivers in windows because my laptop has often just completely broken upon catalyst driver update in windows.)

  • Upgrade free drivers to Catalyst

    Hello everyone
I must first say that my exposure to linux is limited to basic commands like cd, ls,cp, chmod etc. I was looking for a good distro that would let me install kde4, and have a good package manager. I zeroed in on Arch Linux. I managed to install Arch Linux without a lot of hassles (I just followed the beginner's guide on the wiki). I am running Arch on a Dell Studio 1555, and have got almost everything to work.
There is a minor issue that is bothering me though. The laptop has the ATI HD 4570 graphics card. I installed the radeonhd driver first. However, I cannot configure my KDE4 desktop to use OpenGL. I can only use XRender (in the configuration window). On selecting OpenGL from the dropdown, I get an error saying that my system is not capable of using opengl. This appeared, to me, to be a driver problem. I installed the other free driver (xf86-ati), subsequently changed the driver name in xorg.conf, and I still cannot use openGL.
I am contemplating trying Catalyst, to see if I can get openGL to work. Now, after reading the wiki, I still have a few questions pertaining to Catalyst installation. Do I need to uninstall the old drivers first? If yes, then what command is to be used to uninstall them. Also, can I uninstall the drivers from KDE itself or do I need to stop Xserver before doing it.
I tried googling it, but couldn't find anything conclusive. I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Dev

If you look at the ATI Wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI … st_driver>) it is made very clear, that catalyst is not supported by xorg 1.7, if you use a stock kernel. So, in general, the wiki is right in saying that you can use both drivers. For catalyst, either use xorg < 1.7 or a custom kernel.

  • Tear free 2D desktop, is it possible?

I've started using Ubuntu about 4 years ago and consequently I was using Compiz. Recently I moved to Arch Linux and decided to try a new WM, Openbox. The first thing I noticed is that there was a lot of tearing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_tearing) when moving windows around. I tried to find a solution to this problem but I couldn't. I tried different xorg configurations, different drivers, different monitors, and even different graphics cards but the result was always the same, tearing. The thing is this is not related to the WM itself, it also happens in every other WM I've tried (even GNOME) except when I'm using Compiz.
The problem for me to find the root cause of this problem is that I know most people do have screen tearing but they don't even notice it. I tried to show it to my brother and he wasn't able to notice it. I just want to know if there is a solution to this problem or if this is just a consequence of not using hardware acceleration, like Compiz does by using OpenGL.
You can check a topic I created on the Arch Linux forums when I was trying to solve this issue.
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=605164
    Regards.

I've used xcompmgr and the result is the same, maybe it needs some special tweaking? Is xcompmgr HW accelerated? Does it use opengl?
My graphics card is a nvidia 9600gt and I have tried different drivers (both proprietary and open-source).

Xserver is at version 1.13, catalyst should be at version 12.9
The xorg.conf-file was generated through aticonfig --inital and worked before the update. While searching the net i came across /etc/dbus-1/gdm.conf, maybe its a permission-problem?
    Any help is appreciated

Had also a problem with xorg 1.13 and catalyst. (just not gdm but slim).
    I found this:
The main graphics drivers have already been updated to support the new API. The proprietary NVIDIA graphics driver has also been updated for the X.Org Server 1.13 ABI. The only common driver not yet supporting this new xorg-server release is the AMD Catalyst binary driver, but the API/ABI support should be there within a few months.
    Source: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n … px=MTE3Njg
    Seems that is the reason.
In this topic [1] Vi0L0 said that catalyst-test from AUR works with xorg 1.13 from [testing]. I didn't test that. I just downgraded xorg-server, xorg-server-common, catalyst-utils, lib32-catalyst-utils (and xf86-input-evdev because the newest package has always dep. to the newest xorg-server).
    [1] https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 0#p1172200
My package versions are (after downgrading):
    xorg-server 1.12.4-1
    xorg-server-common 1.12.4-1
    catalyst 12.8-2
    catalyst-utils 12.8-2
    lib32-catalyst-utils 12.8-2
Edit: I just realised that there is a new catalyst package (catalyst-dkms) on the [community], i always used the package from the [catalyst] repo (Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/$arch).

  • I looked at my wifi to connect. And I was connected to "my own personal hotspot" I guess connecting to my iPad? Why would I have that option ? Iv never added that to my plan. Is this a new free feature ?

I Went into my setting to connect to a wifi network. Of the networks was one that said "Marias ipad personal hotspot". I don't Rememeber ever adding this feature. I hit "forget network". Hoping I'm not being charged for this feated. Should I be shutting somethjng off in my settings ?

    Hi Maria 178,
If this was on your iPhone and was listing as "iPad Personal Hotspot" (or vice versa), you may have at some some point enabled Personal Hotspot on that device. For more information about that feature, you may find the following article helpful:

  • [solved] Tearing Problem / Refresh Rate

    Hey,
i have a huge tearing problem. Watching movies is a real torture.
I think it's the refresh rate. The recommended refresh rate for my display is 60Hz (@1920x1080p). But i can only choose 50Hz in the XFCE settings (link).
Anyone can say how to change this to 60Hz? If any configs or hardware specifications are needed, please let me know.
Last edited by arcc (2012-02-13 21:25:20)

    It's a nvidia 8800 GTS.
If I choose Resolution: Auto in nvidia-settings I can only use Refresh Rate: 50Hz in XFCE settings.
If I choose Resolution: 1920x1080 60Hz in nvidia-settings I can use Refresh Rate: 50Hz or 122Hz in XFCE settings.
Here the monitor part of xorg.conf:
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    VendorName "Unknown"
    ModelName "AOC 2795E"
    HorizSync 30.0 - 83.0
    VertRefresh 55.0 - 75.0
    Option "DPMS"
    EndSection
Sync to VBlank is always enabled in nvidia-settings.
    But tearing anyway...

  • [SOLVED] Increase free disk space

When I formatted my CR-48, I formatted the entire disk for the root partition. Here is the output of "df -h"
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/sda1 11G 3.7G 6.4G 37% /
    dev 1003M 0 1003M 0% /dev
    run 1005M 812K 1004M 1% /run
    tmpfs 1005M 0 1005M 0% /dev/shm
    tmpfs 1005M 0 1005M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
    tmpfs 1005M 36K 1005M 1% /tmp
    tmpfs 1005M 768K 1004M 1% /etc/pacman.d/gnupg
Is there a way I can free up space, like the multiple "tempfs" partitions?
Last edited by jrom (2013-04-24 03:30:14)

    Gotcha. Thanks!
Edit: one more thing that's bugging me. "df" shows you the file system disk space usage. Why do dev/run/tempfs show up here?

  • [SOLVED] Missing Kernel Headers for Catalyst

    Hello Everyone,
I am a new Arch guy! I am from the ubuntu world.  Love the new arch install, I have installed my own DE.
I use a Radeon HD 68xx so I need the catalyst drivers.
I have tried installing them via: sudo pacman -S catalyst-dkms catalyst-utils    (per the wiki)
It gets to the end and gives me this message:
    DKMS: add completed.
    Error! echo
Your kernel headers for kernel 3.6.2-1-ARCH cannot be found at
    /usr/lib/modules/3.6.2-1-ARCH/build or /usr/lib/modules/3.6.2-1-ARCH/source.
error: command failed to execute correctly
Can anybody assist on how I get the kernel headers?  As far as I understood, they should be included in Arch.

that's what i need  (so far) for running 32bit games:
    lib32-alsa-lib lib32-catalyst-utils lib32-freeglut lib32-libx11 lib32-libxfixes lib32-mesa lib32-sdl lib32-sdl_mixer lib32-sdl_net
I can run other games like OpenArena or UrbanTerror...
sure, these games are 64bit compatible.

  • [Solved] Tearing with propretary nvidia driver

    Hi
    So i've got tearing...
I tried removing it by using different compositing managers (xcomp, cairo, none) with different video output options from mplayer
    -vo xv: really bad
    -vo gl3: bad
    -vo vdpau: really bad
So i understand this is because of the lack of proper opengl3 support within compositing managers. If that is true, why do i get tearing if i don't use any compositing manager?
I'm using a lenovo w510 with some nvidia card (don't exactly know).
Any ideas on how i could address this issue?
    Regards, Archdove

    Disable composite.

  • How to solve duplicate contents in adobe catalyst

hello i would like to ask some help on how to solve duplicate contents..is there a code or a module for this? please advise..thanks

    hello there,
    we still have some issues:
    1. how to stop crawling this site http://mangomonkey.worldsecuresystems.com/ coz when i checked the code it has follow, index code. i believe http://www.mangomonkey.com.au and http://mangomonkey.worldsecuresystems.com coz when i updated a text both links has been updated.
    2. To address the duplicate content issue, add rel canonical tag on each page of http://mangomonkey.worldsecuresystems.com/ or http://mangomonkey.com.au/
    - is there is anyway we can do this using modules/addons/plugins that would enable implement this in BC?
    3. how we can put NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW on http://mangomonkey.worldsecuresystems.com/ without affecting or implementing the code to http://mangomonkey.com.au/
i would like to clarify about what you said in your previous response "BC already has things in place their end to stop those urls being picked up naturally by google so you need to find and document where you have those worldsecuresystems links first up"
what you mean by 'BC already has things in place their end to stop those urls' ? please advise..thanks
