[SOLVED] Tex-live PATH MANPATH and INFOPATH

Good evening,
Today I finally switched from Ubuntu to Arch. Have to say: excelent Wiki's!
While trying to install Tex-live I was prompted to ass a certain directory to PATH, MANPATH and INFOPATH. I have been google-ing, checking fora, wiki's, but I can' t figure out where to add them. Using export MANPATH=/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/doc/man:$MANPATH should only export it for the current session, right? I read somewhere that I should add it in a .profile file (or .bashrc). Though non of the files are existing in the directory where the wiki's guide me. Do you guys know where I should add the PATH,MANPATH and INFOPATH line?
The wiki: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/Ins … h_TeX_Live does not explain this part, unfortunately.
Many thanks!

I used the netinstaller:
The arch wiki redirected me to: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/Ins … h_TeX_Live
see the minimal installation section.
I ran the script an and the end it told me to add certains paths to PATH, MANPATH and INFOPATH.  There should be a ~/.profile file in ubuntu where I had to add these lines for the enviroment. No clue where I should add these lines in Arch.
Thank you very much for your time.

    I get the following messages with different files a couple of dozen times:
    texlive-bin: /usr/share/man/man1/pdfpun.1.gz existiert im Dateisystem
    /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/bidi/luatex-bidi.def existiert in 'texlive-core' und 'texlive-langextra'
    They hence do not install.

    After removing pdfjam I get fewer, but still a lot of errors.
    With pdfpun1.gz gone from the list, I ran:
    sudo pacman -Qo /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/bidi/bookest-xetex-bidi.def; /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/bidi/colortbl-xetex-bidi.def
    Which gave:
    error: failed to read file '/usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/bidi/bookest-xetex-bidi.def': No such file or directory
    bash: /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/bidi/colortbl-xetex-bidi.def: No such file or directory

    @unikum: Yes I have , and I can confirm that everything (apart from polyglossia) compiles flawlessly. It would appear with XeTeX the polyglossia package works but the BibLaTeX doesn't. With PDFTeX, BibLaTeX does work, but I see that polyglossia only works with XeTeX (my compiler also suggests LuaTeX but I'm not going to try it).
    I'm quite happy with how BibTeX works though I'm going guess that you use BibLaTeX for your own reasons.
    LaTeX itself works, I've been working on my MSc Dissertation, lectures notes and other bits, conveniently written in LaTeX, with a working BibTex bibliography. Have I had any problems after uninstalling TeXLive 2012 and then installing TeXLive 2013? NO.
    As for your second question, no. I will not repeat how I did the upgrade for a third time, so please read my previous posts.
    Edited after re-reading entire thread (things getting mixed up in my head ¬¬).

    I live in China as well and my iPhone5s is the model A1530 I bougth outside China. I have the same problem as Nikatnight with the iPhone while the iPad Air (wifi only) is working like a charm. It must be definitely something related to the carrier since I was abroad few days ago and everything worked well.
    If you pay attention at the source of your maps, you'll discover they are provided by AutoNavi instead of TomTom and make them appear in chinese with their own border interpretation. Queries are only acceppted in Chinese (p.e. if I type in english "Los Angeles International Airport"  it replies it cannot locate it)
    I suppose everything will be fine when you'll be out of censorship....
    Perhaps iOS  Apple Maps are absolutely useless for expatriate in China.
    Use Google Maps instead
    BTW, I'm surprised how much Apple might prostrate towards hard power Governments.... No matter what, money are always on top!

  • [SOLVED] TeXLive: Installing font package and updating font map fails

    I am trying to install the newtx package, which is available here at CTAN [1].
    Since I don't want to mess with my TeXLive installation, I am trying to do that as a local user only.
    So I placed the package into ~/texmf/tex/latex/. , ran texhash on texmf/ to update my local ls-R, and so far everything works nicely; for example, the .sty files in that package can be seen:
    $ texhash texmf
    texhash: Updating /home/$USER/texmf/ls-R...
    texhash: Done.
    $ kpsewhich newtxmath.sty
    /home/$USER/texmf/tex/latex/newtx/newtxmath.sty
    Now, following the packages README [2], I need to update the my TeX font maps. Seems like 'updmap' is the right tool to do that for my user only:
    $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map
    copy /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg => /home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg
    Config file: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg"
    dvips output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/dvips/updmap"
    pdftex output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap"
    dvipdfm output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/dvipdfm/updmap"
    pxdvi output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/pxdvi/updmap"
    /usr/bin/updmap is creating new map files

    texhash enabled : true

    ERROR: The following map file(s) couldn't be found:
    ntx.map
    Did you run mktexlsr?
    You can delete non-existent map entries using the option
    --syncwithtrees.
    That's my problem: it can't find ntx.map, although I ran mktexlsr (which is texhash). So what to do?
    1: http://www.ctan.org/pkg/newtx
    2: http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/mirrors/CTAN … wtx/README
    SOLUTION: The trick consists in placing all files into the necessary folders: *.map goes to fonts/map/newtx/, *.vf to fonts/vf/newtx/, and *.tfm to fonts/tfm/newtx/. Also, *.pfb needs to be placed in fonts/pfb/newtx/. *.enc files go to fonts/enc/newt/, and everything else remains in tex/latex/newtx/.

    ConnorBehan wrote:Oh it's part of the mlocate package. It will search your entire filesystem for a filename but there are other programs that do the same. I just meant, can you find ntx.map yourself? If so, you could put it in a new directory or let tex know with the TEXINPUTS environment variable.
    I really don't think that this makes a lot of sense as regards TeXlive; I have checked (with kpsewhich --var-value) if indeed all variables TEXMFHOME, TEXMFVAR, and TEXMFCONFIG are pointing to reasonable places, and indeed they do.
    I have found this guide:
    http://people.debian.org/~preining/TeX/ … n/ch4.html
    Although it is Debian, I figure one can easily adapt it. So I tried that, and placed ntx.map in TEXMFHOME/fonts/map/$SYNTAX/newtx/ntx.map . I wasn't sure about $SYNTAX, so I just tried it with dvips. This time, $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map did actually work, and there were not errors:
    $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map
    copy /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg => /home/janis/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg

  • Please check the LIVE CHAT Record and return my money back.

    This is the situation.
    My 2-year contract ended on 1-15-2015, and I ordered a new device iphone 6 plus (64G) on 1-13-2015 and selected Edge plan (I line, 1GB data, unlimited call and message from 1-15-2015, totally price $80/ month). I had a live chat with a lady and a man, and also confirmed it with call.
    Now I found that the bill became $183 !!!  6GB data is stead of 1GB. The stupid thing is that I paid the same amount ($183) last month as I thought first month charged more because of handing fee.... Now this month It also 183. So I contact with LIVE chat person and ask them to check the LIVE CHAT record to compensate the losses. They told me that they can't enter the record and can't make this remedy.
    So, why do I need take resposible for this mistake? Why do I need pay $200 more? Why can't your guys see the record and find the evidences? Actually I only use 20% data of 1GB, why you HELP me order 6GB?

  • [TeX Live] Unable to get ConTeXt (Mark IV) to work

    I would like to try out ConTeXt, but I can't get it to work. Trying to run "context my-small-test-file.tex" or "context --version" (or anything else I can think of) results in the following error message:
        mtxrun          | unknown script 'context.lua' or 'mtx-context.lua'
    The TeX Live wiki page says "The ConTeXt formats (for MKII and MKIV) are not automatically generated upon installation. See the ConTeXT wiki for instructions on how to do this." I've searched, but I haven't been able to find any helpful info in the ConTeXt wiki. For example, here it is suggested to run "context --make cont-en" to generate a format file, but this gives the same error message as above. Trying texconfig is no good either; it says "texconfig formats is no longer supported, because manual edits of fmtutil.cnf will be overwritten by the new TeX Live package manager, tlmgr, which regenerates that file as needed upon package changes. Thus, to add or remove formats, the recommended method is to use tlmgr to add or remove the appropriate package." But I don't know how tlmgr works, and anyway I'm reluctant to use anything that might interfere with pacman.
    No luck googling either... Suggestions, anyone?
    PS 1. Are there any good reasons why the texlive-core package doesn't configure ConTeXt to work out of the box?
    PS 2. I also tried context-minimals-git from the AUR, which kind of works, but it's useless since the integral signs ($\int$) don't look like they should and have a hideously large spacing around them...

    Also, you can have multiple versions of TL installed if you like and switch between them. I like this because I can always fall back to the previous edition if something terrible happens to the latest one! (Especially when I'm installing a new release and don't know quite what will happen.)
    I guess it doesn't seem like much hassle to me but I was managing TL with these tools before I started using Linux, so that might make a difference - it is easier, in fact, than learning to manage TL using pacman packages.
    But the "do not run with root privileges" is what really decided it for me. I prefer not to manage the installation using tools with privileges which the tools' authors explicitly recommend against! (I guess if you don't need to run anything to manage the installation this might not matter, though.)
    EDIT: By the way, I do this even though I pretty much install the lot so I certainly do not save space. But I have control and I know what the tools do and where they can do those things - only under /usr/local/texlive and /usr/local/stow-tex, basically. I manage the installation using a dedicated account which cannot write anywhere else besides world-writable directories such as /tmp. And it all seems to work.
    The only tricky part was figuring out how to create dummy packages to keep Arch's pacman and Fedora's yum happy .

    What we would like to do is the following:
    http://www.example.com/path1 -> http://host1:80
    http://www.example.com/path2 -> http://host1:8080
    http://www.example.com/path3 -> http://host2:80
    The address www.example.com is resolving to a valid internet address, whereas host1 and host2 resolves to private IP addresses.
    The client should always see the external url (e.g. http://www.example.com/path1/...) and the CSS should do the necessary translation.
    Any help would be very much appreciated!
    Regards,
    Harald

    Hello Experts, I'm new with this cisco stuff too(just got it 3 weeks ago), but here is some of my experience with cisco css 11501.
    First : Service ServerName, there is a port setting here, but from my experience, I think it is related with KeepAlive option, so, port is alternate way to know if the server alive or not.
    Second : When you send request to cisco css, the port option in content port will be the cisco css port to accept request, so, if you send a request to http://vip:8080/, all service must be in the same port too to balance the request, in this case, port 8080, if one service port 80, i'm sure the css will not hit the server.
    Third : To solve your problem...
    http://www.example.com/path1 -> http://host1:80 (ipA)
    http://www.example.com/path2 -> http://host1:80 (ipB)
    http://www.example.com/path3 -> http://host2:80
    if you are lazy to buy new nic, just set subinterface/ip alias on the host1, and make the webserver only bind to specific address, not to all interface...
    O yea, about your path1/path2/path3 -> /, hmm, i'm still asking in this forum about path changing cause until now, i haven't know how to do this, i know about apache rewrite module, and success do this, if only i know about this in cisco css too :-(
    I'm sorry if I make mistake, I'm just telling my experience...

  • Replace TeTex package by TeX Live

    As of May 2006, TeTeX has been abandoned upstream (see http://www.tug.org/tetex). Another project, called TeX Live, which uses most of the scripts developed for teTeX, is its successor. I would suggest to replace TeTex packages in arch by Tex Live.

    Ah, so then the quest is too make a PKGBUILD for the newer pdftex and overwrite the teTeX provided one (while waiting for TeX Live to be part of Arch Linux). I wonder though if pacman lets you do that.
    Or.. hmm.. I think that the teTeX PKGBUILD could be modified to download the newest pdfTeX and overwrite the old src and then be built as normal. I'll give it a try and see how it goes.
    EDIT: Okay, so I managed to break the teTeX build by taking a chance at with files actually need to be copied, obviously it's more advanced than that. Just building the latest pdfTeX is plain easy though, not sure what will happen if you overwrite the files used by (and "owned") teTeX.
    I'll post the files incase anyone wants to try, I won't take any responsibility though, haven't tried it myself, but a guess is that if it messes teTeX up you should recover by 'pacman -S tetex' and say yes when it tells you the latest version is already installed. That's just a guess though. I've not tried building it on i686, but I don't think it should complain so I put it in there as well.
    PKGBUILD:
    pkgname=pdftex
    pkgver=1.40.3
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="Create PDF-files from TeX-files"
    arch=(i686 x86_64)

    license=('GPL')
    depends=('glibc')

    md5sums=('3e5ce0ff804e0420908b89ae44c69532')
    build() {
    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver

    install -D $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver/build/texk/web2c/ttf2afm $startdir/pkg/usr/bin/ttf2afm

    When you open iTunes, follow these steps: Edit
                                                                       -Prefrences
                                                                               -Under General find Language
    Hope that solved your problem

    I live in Australia and I am trying to buy an album by SNSD, a Kpop group. It is not available on the Australian iTunes. All of their other albums are.
    Why is this and is there a way I can buy it off the American store? (The album is called The Boys)

    Well how much does the album cost? Because I have an issue with this except I live in America and I wish to purchase something from the Australian store... perhaps I can gift you your album and you could gift me my album.

  • Work Paths, selections, and general doing my job better question...

    I currently work for a company that prints "Fathead" like wall graphics, i set the images up to print for them, but im looking for a better way to do what i do. Specifically my working with illustrator and Photoshop to setup the cut line for each image. Here is my current step by step procedure:
    1) Open image (usually a JPG) in Photoshop CS4
    2) Using mainly the Lasso tool's i select the subject to be printed. I'm very fast doing this.
    3) Copy/Paste the selection i just made into a new and save it as a TIF file.
    4) Back to the original selection i Smooth and Contract the line a few pixels and hit "Make Work Path"
    5) Export that path to illustrator (which leaves me with an .AI file)
    6) From here im done with Photoshop and i open both the .AI and TIF files into Adobe illustrator CS4
    7) The .AI file i give a stroke and then on the Swatches tab i hit New Swatch, name it "CutContour", and select Spot Color & RBG
    8) I then copy the CutContour line, paste it onto the TIF image, and line it up over the subject
    9) From here all that's left to do is make it the right size it's to be printed at and save it as an EPS file and im done.
    The main reason im asking for help here is because I'm not happy with the quality of the cutline Photoshop exports to illustrator (the ai file) after i make it a work path. The anchor points and handle's are often in need of a lot of adjustment despite the fact that my selection in Photoshop was right on the money.
    One side note that might be a direction for me to head in,...
    I recently was given a jpg file from a guy who said he had already made the selection for me. I wasn't quite sure what he meant but when i saved the image as a tif, opened it in illustrator, and hit CTRL-A to select everything i noticed a cutline was already present. After further examination of the jpg in Photoshop i noticed a "Path 1" on the paths tab, and more importantly that cutline when opened in illustrator was nuts on! Meaning none of the anchor points and handle's needed to be adjusted at all.
    Now the person who sent me this file was a customer so i can't rightly ask them how to better do my job :-) lol ...but maybe someone here can tell me how they (for lack of a better word) embedded a cutline or path i guess it's called into a jpg file like that? This would at least save me the step of exporting my selection to illustrator as an AI file and im wondering if however they did it is more accurate then the "Make Work Path" option i currently use.

    ...useing File | Export | Paths to Illustrator is what i outlined above that i currently do...
    My apologies for not catching that. Honestly, my eyes glazed over at about step 2 of your procedure.
    I'm not happy with the quality of the cutline Photoshop exports to illustrator (the ai file) after i make it a work path.
    A couple of possibilities come to mind. What Tolerance value are you using when you first make a work path out of your selection in Photoshop? 0.5 pixel is the highest precision available, and that's what you should use if you want your path to accurately reflect your selection. Be warned, however, that your path will likely end up with a lot of points, making for an unnecessarily complex path. (Try it with a simple circle.)
    Another possibility is that you're working with a low-quality, low-resolution JPEG as your source image. JPEG compression artifacts can affect selection accuracy (with automated tools, like the magic wand or eraser), and overall resolution, of course, will limit path precision. Not much you can do about that other than to start with better-quality images.
    After further examination of the jpg in Photoshop i noticed a "Path 1" on the paths tab, and more importantly that cutline when opened in illustrator was nuts on!... maybe someone here can tell me how they (for lack of a better word) embedded a cutline or path i guess it's called into a jpg file like that?
    Using a low tolerance (high precision) value make a path from your selection in Photoshop and save the path. Save As a JPG, and the path will be saved along with the image. Do not use Save for Web to create your JPG file.
    As others have pointed out in earlier posts, learning to use the pen tool is your best bet... and an absolute necessity if you're going to be doing a lot of this stuff.
    Regarding the creation of clipping paths in Photoshop, slap me silly, but I'm going to refer you to the manual (online Help) for that. And if you think that unkind, try posting the question over at the Photoshop forum. Wear a helmet.
