[Solved] Thunar in Dwm doesn't start

I just did a fresh install of arch and dwm. After that i installed thunar, but when i try and start thunar from terminal, it says:
"thunar: error while loading shared libraries: libstartup-notification-1.so.0: cannot open shared object file:No such file or directory"
What do i have to install with pacman to get those files?
Thx.
Edit: In my /.xinitrc, i've already tried doing:
exec ck-launch-session /usr/bin/dwm
and just
exec dwm

I tried installing thunar. But that didn't do it.
I found out it was 'pacman -S startup-notifications' that did it. This never happened before. =S

  • [SOLVED] Thunar 1.6 doesn't drag-and-drop with the right mouse button

    Hallo all.
    It might be something I've done (though I did delete my ~/.config/Thunar directory before upgrading), but Thunar doesn't let me drag-and-drop with the right mouse button, thus stopping me from copying something instead of moving it, etc. Has anyone else had that too?

    Could be right-hand user
    Come on! Read what GordonGR wrote!
    Microsoft Windows, Nautilus, the Haiku Tracker, and probably many other file managers have a feature where, when you right-click or middle-click and drag an icon to a new location, a pop-up menu appears and asks what you'd like to do (Move, Copy, Link). I thought I used to use this feature in Thunar too but it seems to have stopped working in recent versions. Has anyone else had any experience with it?
    EDIT: Here's random blogger talking about the feature in an older version of Thunar: http://jeromeg.blog.free.fr/index.php?p … and-tricks So that's good, I wasn't just imagining the feature.

  • [SOLVED] i3 and X doesn't start after xcb upgrade

    After upgrading my system, X failed on login. The error message was
    i3: error while loading shared libraries: libxcb-util-so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    xinit: connection to X server lost
    Downgrading to xcb-util 0.3.8.1 helped, it was previously at 0.3.9-1. I also had to downgrade startup-notification to 0.12-2 and xcb-util-image to 0.3.8-1 as well to resolve dependency conflicts.
    I'm off to report this as a bug, wanted to share in case anybody else had the same problem, or has found a better solution.
    EDIT: solved by upgrading to i3 4.2, I had an old git version. (sheepish expression)

    You might wanna start examining X's log rather than start digging elsewhere. If udev fails you wouldn't even get to that point.

  • [Solved] Amarok v2.8 doesn't start

    Hi,
    With the last Amarok update (v2.8), i am getting a notification at startup :
    Amarok could not find any collection plugins. It is possible that Amarok is installed under the wrong prefix, please fix your installation using:
    $ cd /path/to/amarok/source-code/
    $ su -c "make uninstall"
    $ cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix` && su -c "make install"
    $ kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
    $ amarok
    More information can be found in the README file. For further assistance join us at #amarok on irc.freenode.net.

    @karol,
    Yeah, removing ~/.kde solves most of the problems but you lose the customization you have done, so it's the last choice.
    For most of us, removing config folders/files is the first thing which comes to mind. But i only removed "~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok" first, then i realized that there is some more folders related to Amarok at "~/.kde4/share/config/".
    A quick search at home dir is useful on removing config files.

    Hi all!
    Today, I replaced my old nvidia card by an ati HD 4350.

    ??? something must have gone wrong. check for space on your filesystem and pacman and dmesg log.
    you will also need to set the radeonhd driver in your xorg.conf.

    Following a post at the gnome bug by a gnome-control-center developer noting that it was a problem through libcheese in the user accounts panel, I was able to skip this bug by either a) rebuilding the package with  --without-cheese or b) just disabling the fuill user accounts panel with
    chmod 0 /usr/lib/control-center-1/panels/libuser-accounts.so

  • [SOLVED] [dwm] Can't start dwm

    Hi!
    I've recently entered the world of tiling WM and started with dwm.
    Since I'm kinda insecure, and wanted to keep gnome as well, I've followed every single step in the wiki article and used the ~/.Xclients way, so I could start dwm from gdm (I've followed also the steps in the discussion page as well).
    Then, when I tried to startup dwm from gdm, it doesn't start, and goes back again to gdm.
    My ~/.Xclients file is the following:
    setxkbmap -layout pt
    #relogio
    while true; do
    xsetroot -name "$( date +"%F %R" )"
    sleep 1m # Update time every minute
    done &
    # #estado da bateria
    # while true; do
    # batt=$(LC_ALL=C acpi -b)
    # case $batt in
    # *Discharging*)
    # batt="${batt#* * * }"
    # batt="${batt%%, *} "
    # batt=""
    # esac
    # xsetroot -name "$batt$(date +%R)"
    # sleep 60
    # done &
    #conky bar
    conky | while read -r; do xsetroot -name "$REPLY"; done &
    #executar o dwm
    exec dwm
    It's all things copied from the wiki page, just for testing if everything was fine...
    My /usr/share/xsessions/dwm.desktop file is:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Name=Dwm
    Comment=Dynamic window manager
    Exec=/usr/local/bin/dwm
    Icon=dwm
    Type=XSession
    And I've created a /usr/share/xsessions/user.desktop file that looks like this:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Name=User XSession script
    Comment=Runs your ~./Xsession script
    Exec=/etc/X11/Xsession
    Type=Application
    Thanks in advance for any help, I've searched the forums and used google and couldn't find any answer to this problem :S

    haxit, thanks I've managed to solve the problem!
    I've installed SLiM and set up everything in .xinitrc.
    The dwm.desktop doesn't match with yours because I've changed somethings and because I didn't backup the file (I know, it's super dumb and stupid) I had to paste the defaults I found in the web.
    Thanks.
    Fellow gdm and dwm users, an advice, put everything in .xinitrc. It's easier.

    Any help?
    I tried to reinstall dependencies of xorg-server and mesa. And then I even went through with the whole system update which I postponed for a few weeks because of the KDE changes. Sadly even the whole system update didn't help.
    Is it possible that any old config files can cause this?
    EDIT:
    I tried kernel parameter "nouveau.modeset=0" but it didn't help.

    Ok, I guess I solved it by reinstalling xf86-video-nouveau.
    Funny business! Why did the upgrade to xorg-server 1.17.1 force me to remove it when it is still needed??
    And why does that lead to mysterious error messages and segfault??
    I discovered it accidentally when I stumbled upon the fact that the package was still installed on my newer x86-64 Arch installation despite being on xorg-server 1.17.1.

  • [SOLVED]Compiz Fusion doesn't start!

    Hello,
    After an upgrade Compiz Fusion doesn't start. Normally I start Compiz Fusion with the command:
    fusion-icon
    But now it gives on a terminal the following output:
    fusion-icon
    * Detected Session: gnome
    * execution of "which glxinfo" failed
    * Error: glxinfo not installed!
    I searched with Yaourt on "glxinfo", but there is no package called "glxinfo".
    Could someone help?

    Hello,
    The problem is solved. Instead of
    fusion-icon
    I use
    compiz-manager
    Thanks to xaiviax for his reply.

    Hello,

    projectM-pulseaudio: error while loading shared libraries: libGLEW.so.1.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Can anybody confirm this or give me a hint how to solve it?
    Thanks,

    Problem solved, obviously my fault, projectm-pulseaudio is a package that I installed from AUR (I thought it is part of projectm from community), so recompiling solved the problem.

  • [Solved]Transmission doesn't start to tray

    i'm using OpenBox and tint2
    i want tranmission auto start when i boot into arch so i add 'tranmission-gtk --minimized' into autostart file but when i restart my machine transmission doesn't start to tray
    is this bug? or i do something wrong? how can i solve this problem:(
    Last edited by megacyber (2011-12-15 01:40:38)

    if i use transmission-cli.will it continue download my file from tranmission-gtk?
    If you start tranmission-daemon like this:
    transmission-daemon -g /home/<your_username>/.config/transmission
    it will inherit your current settings, including any current downloads.
    EDIT: It seems the bug you're encountering has been fixed for version 2.5 ([extra] version is 2.42).

  • [solved] GDM doesn't start gnome- Thinkpad A31

    I've has Arch on this old beast for about a month now, without a problem. Now when I fire it up, gnome doesn't start, and I get a message saying: GdmDisplay lasted 1.7 seconds. Does it on reboot, does it in fallback mode.
    What's the fix for gdm and gnome?
    I reinstalled gdm and startx worked, unlike when this problem occurred. Reinstalled gnome as a "just-in-case," insurance move. After rebooting, gnome works again.

    Like the subject says, wine doesn't start utorrent anymore after latest update.  The output I get is the following:

    and then it hangs.  If I change my Windows version in winecfg to for instance Windows XP, the first 2 errors disappear, but wine still hangs:

    # sysctl vm.legacy_va_layout
    vm.legacy_va_layout = 0
    Does anybody have an idea to what might be going on?
    Enabling DRI and disabling DRI doesn't help.  Updating to the latest wine 0.9.30-1 also didn't change anything.
