    Generally YES.
It's possible to hold separate iTunes library's on a single machine.
Generate two new folders inside the Music folder of the Mini and name them differently; e.g. man and woman.
Copy your whole library into "man" and your wifes into "woman"
Go to sharing in the system settings of the Mini and share the Music folder in your network.
After copying the whole library's to the Mini you may point iTunes to the new location at startup by holding the option key (alt) at the keyboard.
iTunes will then ask you where the library is located.
Point it to the matching library on the Mini.
    That's all.
    Lupunus
PS ... If you both use only the Mini you have to setup a user account for each and just copy the whole library to the Music folder in particular.

  • Cranpkg - script for installing R libraries

    Hi everyone,
I have created a script for installing R libraries using pacman.  You can download it at http://allan.mcrae.googlepages.com/cranpkg (currently v0.3.0).
For example, the "genetics" library is installed using
    > cranpkg -i genetics

This should be fairly robust against failures and leave log files in /tmp/cranpkg if anything fails.  Please let me know if you run into trouble with this.
There a a few variables that you may need to modify at the top of the script.  For example, the mirror you wish to download from.
Wget is used by default for the downloading and package installation is done with a "sudo pacman" command.
Any problems/success please let me know.

Here is some information on cranpkg status at v0.2:
Installs and loads fine in R:
adegenet, allelic, ape, bayesSurv, classifly, coda, combinat, e1071, gdata, gee, genetics, glpk, gstat, gtools, HardyWeinberg, kinship, mcmc, mvtnorm, nortest, qtl, reshape, RGtk2, smoothSurv, sp, tree.
Installs but fails to load in R:
    graph, rggobi
Thats greater than 90% success rate...  The packages that fail to load have no files in them (pacman -Ql <pkg> returns nothing).
Update:  graph requires R>=2.6.0 (latest) which hasn't made it to Arch yet.  rggobi require external software called ggobi so fails.  These errors are caught in v0.2.1.

  • [SOLVED] New Install of Gnome 3.2 doesn't feel like loading

    Greetings,
Before making this post, I have spent the majority of the day trying to solve this issue. I have switched from nvidia drivers to nouvela (sp?) drivers, incase that was the issue. I have scoured google, arch-wiki, and the forums until my eyes have bled. I have dug through the xsession-errors log to search out any missing components that might be causing this... but to no avail. If anything, trying to run and try Gnome 3.2 has made me feel like a complete idiot, who has obviously learnt nothing after years of using linux. So, I come here hoping that some one can point me to the solution my brain cannot itself come up with.
    Here the situation:
I have been running KDE4 for quite some time happily. I have ran Gnome 3 back in its beginning days succesfully as well, but that was an older, now dead, pc. Having seen some neat little things about the new Gnome 3.2, I got an itch to give it a try. So, I go and follow the Gnome article on the excellent arch wiki- installing both gnome and gnome extras, letting it grab everything, change from kdm to gdm, and reboot.
Well, it gives me the old gdm I remember from the early gnome 3 days (wasn't this changed) despite it showing that it is GDM 3.2 via pacman. It shows my user name, lets me put my password, and shows the stripped background. One thing to note is that the cursor remains a clock face, never changing to a pointer.
I log in, choosing GNOME, all that remains is the wallpaper, with the clockface cursor, no pointer. I go take the kids to the bus stop, come back apx. 20 min. later, no change.
Ok, bug crushing time right? So I go through the steps. I make sure that gnome shell is indeed installed. I remove any config files (there weren't any), remove gnome shell, reinstall. No go. I rinse and repeat, but removing & reinstalling different things, such as GDM, and even gnome completely. No go.
Hopping into pekwm, I search. I make copies of the xsession-errors each time, and load them in pekwm after a reboot, looking through with pacman by myside to make sure I have any possible missing files. And finally after failure after failure I give up, and come here.
So, here's my xsession-errors log. Please, if anyone can help, or even offer any kind of suggestion that might spark something in my brain to get me going in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it. If this thread needs moved, merged, etc, please do so... I've searched the forums, but now my brain is numb, so yeah...

Ok, I guess all it took was for me to post this to wake up and be able to solve the issue.
It is simple really. I just needed to re-install libltdl.
So, for those searching, if you get this similar problem,
    pacman -S libltdl
is what solved it for me.

  • [Solved?] Installing multiple versions of Firefox at the same time

I would like to install the normal Firefox in the repositories and also firefox-pgo-minefield-smp from the AUR so that I may use either one as desired.
Looking at the current PKGBUILD from http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=33506 (pkgbuild @ http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/firef … p/PKGBUILD ) I am thinking that perhaps I would modify this line:
    export LDFLAGS="-Wl,-rpath,/usr/lib/firefox-$_prever -Wl,-O1,--sort-common,--hash-style=gnu,--as-needed"
to reflect the path where I would like to install it like so:
    export LDFLAGS="-Wl,-rpath,/opt/firefox-$_prever -Wl,-O1,--sort-common,--hash-style=gnu,--as-needed"
And then presumably fix my symlink at /usr/bin/firefox to point back to /usr/lib/firefox-2.6 again. (and also fix the menu links and I realize I would have to use an ugly 'pacman -U tarball --force' to install it -- there's got to be a better way as that is very ugly and wrong surely???? Perhaps modify the pkgname as well as conflicts and provides so I could install it more normally?)
Correct?  Would I also need to modify a prefix or such besides this and if so where in the pkgbuild (ideally) or source would you recommend (must I change the actual makefile or does my modification in the PKGBUILD take care of this?  Would you in your experience recommend another approach for this?
I thought it wise to ask here before hacking away with this stuff and possibly hosing my system in unforeseen ways.   Please forgive my greenness.  I have spent a few hours researching this but still am not quite sure thus I ask. While I think I could do it with a straight compile with a modified configure I'm unsure of how to do it best using the arch tools...
    Thanks for your time.

Basically solved but not yet mastered.
So I've figured out how to do this, it works, but not yet optimally and I am unsure about some things.  Namely:

It seems as though it is a bit messy, as if I have more than I need installed. Especially the two entries in /opt/lib/.  Do I really need all this?

^ A dirty hack to download the latest nightly of the electrolysis tree, pgo optimized for an intel i686 P4 (not native to get around the seg fault bug). I just commented out the .desktop files as well as the icon for now. Also the conflicts and provides section have merely been commented out. The goal is to have this work independently from the standard firefox allowing me to run both on the system at the same time.
Anyone see anything that I have missed and could fix as far as doing the separate install in /opt using makepkg and the pkgbuild?   I've been using arch less than a month and this is the first I've really hacked with a PKGBUILD and mozconfig so I feel I could really use the help. Any insight appreciated greatly.

Downgrading to version "20130428-1" solved the problem.
Anyone also encounter this? Is it a packaging issue? Thanks.

Sorry guys, I had a problem updating "extra" repo, and did a partial updates.
Re-sync the repository solved the issue, thanks.

  • Errors during install with libraries.

Hi, i get this errors when i try to install CrossOver Office.
    [jack@GNU ~]$ sh install-crossover-pro-6.0.0.sh
    Verifying archive integrity...OK
    Uncompressing CrossOver Linux Professional
./setup.sh: line 173: /home/jack/.setup9272: No existe el fichero o el directorio
The setup program seems to have failed on x86/glibc-2.5
    Check the system requirements at:
    http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxoffice/requirements/
You might be missing the 32bit compatibility libraries
    [jack@GNU ~]$ pacman -Q glibc
    glibc 2.5-8
    Whta's somethings wrong??.:(

Just to make things perfectly clear, when you say you ran a disk repair from the update disk, do you mean you were booted from the Tiger Installer DVD and ran the version of Disk Utility on that disk?
I ask for two reasons. First, Disk Utility cannot repair the volume it is run from & you might have mistaken the meaning of a message to that effect if multiple volumes were selected & one was the boot volume. Second, earlier versions of Disk Utility than what is installed with 10.3.9 will report errors on volumes with Tiger installed, & although you say the installation failed, it may be that the volume structure is now ready for Tiger & thus the reported errors are bogus.
I admit both are unlikely, but it never hurts to be sure.
Also, be aware that once you do get Tiger installed, TechTools will need to be upgraded. Like the older versions of Disk Utility, TTP v4.0 is not Tiger compatible. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301269 for details.

  • [SOLVED] pyrit installed but not working

    Hi have installed pyrit:
    aur/pyrit 0.4.0-1 [installed] (79)
WPA/WPA2-PSK attacking with gpu and cluster
but when I try to execute it I get command not found
    EDIT - SOLVED:
Performing a whereis seems like it is not correctly installed despite "yaourt -Ss pyrit" shows it is so I have reinstalled again and now it works and can be located at /usr/bin/pyrit

For someone with 300+ posts, you ask pretty hopeless questions. Please read How To Ask Questions The Smart Way
    and include some relevant details.
Where is the binary? What does the documentation say? How are you trying to "execute it"? What have you tried? etc...

  • [SOLVED] KDE install problem

    Hi folks,
I am trying to install KDE on my Arch Linux flash drive and I'm having 1 problem. I typed pacman -S kde, and about 20% through the whole download, it gets to the file called "libwbclient-4.0.7-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz". It then starts going through a LOT of mirrors trying to find one that works, but every single one says "The requested URL returned error: 404 not found". I checked with my phone and another computer that my internet is working, and I paused the download and pinged Google to make sure the laptop I'm using still had a connection (it did). Any ideas?

    Ah, shucks
We do ask that those who start threads to mark them as solved when appropriate.  We ask that you do it as only you know when it ir really solved.  Just edit the first post in the thread and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the thread title.
Thanks, and, again, welcome to Arch.

Not sure why typing 'gimp' is bringing up 'gimpshop', but anyhoo...
I just punched in 'http://mirrors.easynews.com/linux/archl … po/os/i686' into Epiphany and it 404's, so I'd assume it's down at the mo. Meantime, if you go into your mirrorlist and uncomment whichever 'Server = *' is closest to you (you could just do any of them, but the nearest ones will give you better performance) and comment out that bottom line.
All going to plan, that should sort it.

  • [Solved] Problems installing broadcom-wl

So, I've been using Arch for about a week now (first time user), and I'm having problems installing my wifi driver.
My network controller is Broadcom BCM43142. I know that there are many issues with Broadcom chipsets, but this one worked on Ubuntu before, with the Broadcom STA driver.
Since I worked there, I installed the driver from here (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/broadcom-wl/), extracted the tarball, cd'd into the folder, did makepkg and everything seemed to install perfectly. Here's the output:
    [swaraj@swaraj broadcom-wl]$ makepkg
    ==> Making package: broadcom-wl 5.100.82.112-13 (Mon Aug 5 15:04:42 UTC 2013)

But now, when I pacman -U broadcom-wl, I get this error:
    [swaraj@swaraj broadcom-wl]$ sudo pacman -U broadcom-wl

error: 'broadcom-wl': could not find or read package
Any idea what could be causing this?
Edit: I tried the same thing with b43-firmware (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/b43-firmware/), and I get the same output when trying to pacman -U. Is there something wrong with my system?

Pass the full filename to pacman -U
    -U, --upgrade
Upgrade or add package(s) to the system and install the required dependencies from
sync repos. Either a URL or file path can be specified. This is a “remove-then-add”
process. See Upgrade Options below; also see Handling Config Files for an explanation
on how pacman takes care of config files.

  • [SOLVED]Where install executables of a package but out of $PATH

    Hi!
I'm developing some app and code and executable increased to quite big sizes.
I divided it for libraries (three ones) and a few executable files - as a parts of the program out of main functionality (settings, some creators).
Main application launches it on demand as a separate process.
I found this very usable during developing (less compile/linking time even with llvm)
but I'm preparing the app for release.
As long as good place for libraries is /usr/lib and those three new ones will not make more mess there,
I would prefer to keep the binaries (obviously except the main one) out of the PATH,
so where is a good place for them. /usr/share/myapp/bin i.e.?
I saw some Qt executable in /usr/lib/qt/bin as well.
    Are there any rules?

    Thanks for answer(s)
I found the solution for my purpose but it is a bit out of topic.
As long as those "additional" applications are not intended to be run by user directly, they may be just a plugin libraries loaded on demand by already launched main app and lay with other libraries.
This way the main binary still remained smaller and faster to build and it requires just cosmetic changes in code.
However I dig a bit to answer for topic question and
    /usr/lib/myapp/exec
    should be acceptable.
See what git does, problem solved next!

  • [SOLVED] Matlab installing, Java error.

    Hi!
    I'm running
    [buser@badmin ~]$ java -showversion
    java version "1.7.0_21"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.3.9) (ArchLinux build 7.u21_2.3.9-2-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.7-b01, mixed mode)
And installing Matlab has caused me a great deal of pain since it requires java 6. I do not wish to uninstall java 7 though.
    I've installed:
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/jre6-compat/
    But that didn't work.
Then tried installing the normal jre6 from the AUR, but it just said that I need to uninstall java 7.
Any tips? Do I need to fix som PATHs or something in order for the java 7 to work with jre6-compat?
Please try to understand that I'm an Arch-newbie and that I am really doing my best explaining - I will post any data you need asap if you ask.
    Regards, grabbexi.

Yeah ok, I'm installing it from the terminal:
These are my relevant PATHs I think:
    [buser@badmin R2013a]$ $PATH
bash: /usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/bin/core_perl: No such file or directory
    [buser@badmin R2013a]$ $JAVA_HOME
    bash: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk/jre: Is a directory
I then run "sudo ./install" while in the R2103a-dir:

There's more code than this, but it's only millions of lines saying:
cp: failed to extend ‘/tmp/mathworks_13718/bin/glnxa64/libstdc++.so.6.0.13’: No space left on device
Also, my terminal breaks or something. I can only like see the 20 last lines. I can scroll up. But not see them. I've try setting the scrollback to 1000,10000 and 100k. Nothing helpes. (Not related to my problem, but I would be glad if someone helped.)
