[SOLVED] Trouble selecting Line-in instead of Mic

I'm trying to use QSSTV to display SSTV signals from my ham radio. The only problem I'm having is that it's listening to my laptop's built-in mic instead of the line-in jack. The input soundcard option in QSSTV is set to default, so I presume I'll have to play around with ALSA to make line-in its default input source.
Please help me here, I'm a bit stuck.

Hi phillid,
Welcome to Arch Linux.  One of the things we ask is that when you regard something as solved, edit the title of your thread and prepend [SOLVED] to the thread title.  You do this by editing the first post in the thread.  We ask that you do this because you are the only one who really can determine that the problem is solved, and (aside from the moderators) you are the only one who can do that.  And -- I hear the moderators are all lazy

    My iPad recently started to act up. I was using Google to find some information on birthday cakes and recipes. I selected 'images' but instead of the little thumbnails I got computer code. Lines and lines of the stuff. This only happened yesterday. The iPad was working perfectly up to then. I am having no other problems. Google images work fine on my iPhone and my Mac Book. I would be very grateful if somebody could help.

    The problem is absolutely not Reader. The problem is that FireFox has stepped in front of Reader and handles all the PDF stuff - wrongly in your case. FireFox is DESIGNED to take over PDF files. But it is not capable of doing IRS forms!
    To start with go back to IE for these forms. When you save them to disk DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK ON THEM until this is fixed. Just open the in the normal way - start Adobe Reader and use Open from the File menu.

  • Trouble selecting and moving objects near text in Adobe Illustrator? Try this.

    It's been 4 years since I left Corel DRAW for Adobe Illustrator. One thing I could never get used to is the crazy way text has an impenetrable invisible sheet over it making it hard to select objects near or behind it.
    With Corel DRAW I was used to be able to select text by simply clicking on the visible area of the text. Selecting stuff behind the text by clicking between letters or right next to a decender was never a problem. But Illustrator is a different story.
    Tonight I finally found a way to make selecting text in Illustrator behave more like Corel DRAW.
    I wrote it up here: http://www.johnstanowski.com/blog/trouble-selecting-and-moving-objects-near-text-in-adobe- illustrator-try-this/
    Just thought I'd share!

    It's not spam, but thanks for assuming.
    I was up really late writing that blog post. Posting a link was the quickest way to share and be able to go to bed.
    Plus it's rather lengthy. I thought that would be rude to use an Adobe forum for my articles.
    If you saw my blog you will have seen there's not much going on there at all, and no calls to action to hire me. I don't have anything to gain by getting traffic.
    And, yeah, layers work for selecting, but that slows you down. Who would want to look away from their work to find and select a layer when they're trying to tweak positions of objects? Layers suck for selecting quickly.
    And there must be something wrong with me but I find using Type Object Selection by Path Only by itself hard to use. I'd really just like to click on the text itself rather than an invisible hairline you have to probe to find.
    Here's the post. I hope people who had trouble like me find it helpful.
    Do you have trouble selecting objects near Point Type in Adobe Illustrator? You’ve been there. You want to select an object. Problem is, it’s really close to piece of Point Type. All too often we try to select objects that wind up being unreachable because they lie too close to a piece of Point Type, which we wind up selecting instead. Luckily, after years of angst, I discovered a solution.
    Point Type in Adobe Illustrator is funny. There’s this invisible “shield” around it. This shield is much larger (at least it seems that way) than the text itself. It prevents you from selecting objects behind text by clicking between letter and words. This shield is particularly meddlesome with lowercase letters and decenders because we think surely we can click on that blue box (or whatever) because it seems far enough away from that Point Type. But the lowercase “g” in the Point Type’s territory.
    Okay, now that we know we’re talking about the same thing, let’s move on to the solutions.
    Step 1. Check ‘Type Object Selection by Path Only’ in Preferences
    You’ll find this option in Preferences/Type. Click it and that nasty text shield goes away. But there’s a price to pay. With this option activated, the only way you can select your text is by clicking on the text path, a super, tiny, thin baseline thingy under all the letters, but above decenders. It’s really hard to grab. To do it right you need to slowly approach the text path with your cursor. When you’re right over it, Illustrator will let you know by adding a small black square to your cursor. Now, you can click, hold and move your text. But this workflow can really slow you down and break your rhythm, maybe even more so with it turned off.
    Step 2. Add the ‘Outline Object’ Effect
    Select your Point Type and, from under the Effects Menu/Path/, select Outline Object. This effect does something really sweet to text in Illustrator: it lets your Point Type objects be treated as if their were converted to Outlines. You can still edit the text, but as far as selecting it, Illustrator now considers it outlines and shapes instead of a text object. Basically, it now considers the Path of the text to be the text itself! Now, since we’ve already checked ‘Type Object Selection by Path Only’ we can now click on the text to select it. Just the text. Not the baseline, not the wacky invisible shield surrounding it.
    And now… you can select things behind the text by clicking between words and letters. And the ONLY way to select Point Type is to click on the visible parts of the text itself! Problem solved.
    Potential Problem:
    Too much of a good thing could be a bad thing. Let’s say you have some Point Type set in a very light face and it’s pretty small or you’re zoomed way out. Selecting that text could be a problem since you have to actually click on the text itself. Actually it isn’t that hard, it may just require an extra click to grab it. If you have a set of smaller, light-faced bits of text, you can elect to just not apply the Outline Object effect to these. They’ll get their ‘shield’ back and be easier to click on. And since they’re so small, they don’t pose a problem with selecting things behind them anyway.
    Applying this technique to your old files
    Now that you’ve learned this awesome new way to work around type in Illustrator, you may be anxious to open yesterday’s project and get back to work. But you may be not be looking forward to applying the Outline Object effect to each and every piece of type. For this you can use Illustrator’s “Select Same” feature. Select one piece of text. Then from the Select Menu click on Object/Text Objects. Now ALL of your text objects will be selected, and you can apply the Outline Object effect to all of them at once!
    That’s it. If you build ads or work with a lot of type in Illustrator, you’re about to be able to work a lot faster… and happier.

  • Trouble selecting

    I'm having trouble selecting an image on Photoshop 7. I'm trying to crop an image but when I use the marquee tool, it keeps jumping to different spots when I drag the corner. I recently had troubles with my computer mouse in that it was double-clicking faster than humanly possible and wouldn't allow me to highlight anything. I believe I have fixed the mouse problems because everything that I was having difficulty with before has been fixed - just not in Photoshop. I was wondering if it could be a problem with the program.
    I hadn't encountered this problem before anything was wrong with my mouse.
    As for the settings I'm using, feather is set to 0px and the style is normal.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I think J Maloney meant reset the Marquee tool.
    Have you tried cropping with the Crop tool instead?
    Edit: Oh!  Did the type tool fix it?

  • How to select line in?

    I have my mixer board set up to drive the line in on the mac. When I got to System Preferences I can select the line in and see my volume and audio go up and down the bar graph when I choose line in.
    I know is the right mic because when I turn down the mic on my mixer board the audio level follows on the mac level indicator graph.
    So, when I go to skype or garage band and choose line in, I don't get any line in audio. I cannot see it at all on the bar graphs in those programs. When I choose the built-in mic on the audio selections for the individual programs it works ok.
    Any ideas to get the line in going to skype and garage band?

    That got it working in garageband. The only problem now is with skype.
    I can record my external line in mic in garage band and play it back fine.
    In skype, I select line in from the audio preferences and it will not work. When in a skype call I can see the bar graph for the mic on my audio and it does not move. At the same time I have the system preferences sound open showing the line in mic and I can see the audio bar graph move fine.
    So it looks like the problem is around skype.

  • Blob Brush Tool and Selecting Lines when Hitting Ctrl Z

    I've done searches for this answer, but I'm afraid it's too specific.  Basically, in Windows 7's Illustrator holding the ctrl key is a shortcut to the selection tool when someone is using the blob brush tool. (among others as well)  This means that if my cursor is ever hovering over a line when I hit undo (ctrl+z) it also selects the line because I've hit the ctrl key.  That means after the initial undo, I have to also move my cursor to another spot where there is no line and hit the control key again to deselect the line that became highlighted when I hit ctrl+z.
    I know it's not a big deal, but having to move your cursor every time you want to undo a mistake is really annoying.  Selecting the shape doesn't effect my drawing, but I'd rather not have a set of lines highlighted while I'm drawing.
    Is there a way I can stop Illustrator from selecting line segments when holding the control key?

    I'm having trouble understanding exactly what you mean. Floating the cursor over a line and then pressing Ctrl doesn't select the line -- it just temporarily changes the cursor to the last selection tool used. Nothing gets selected when you let go of the Ctrl-Z. However, read on:
    Regardless of where the cursor is, pressing Ctrl-Z just undoes the last operation. This could, of course, result in something being re-selected as a consequence of the UnDo. Are you perhaps pressing the left mouse button while pressing Ctrl-Z?
    Sorry if this is no help at all . . .

  • Audigy 2 -- No option to select Line-in 2/Mi

    Hello,
    I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and I'm having an issue with recording inputs. I recently had to do a complete wipe of my hard dri've. When I reinstalled XP I came here to Creative's site and downloaded the latest drivers. When I get the sound card up and running, however, I have no option to select Line-in 2/Mic 2 as a recording input. I only have Microphone, Wave, What-U-Hear, Analog Mix and a couple other options.
    Is there something I'm doing wrong? I want to use the Line-in 2 on the front panel for recording but as of right now there is no option for me to even choose it. Any help or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Trouble selecting text

    I've never had trouble selecting text by moving the cursor to the beginning of the text and holding down the "mouse" and scrolling down to the end of the area to be copied, pressing the command button + c and voila!  But tonight, the spooks have come and won't let me go directly to anything that is about 6 double spaced lines from the bottom of the page and then wants to put some light sepia colored box.  I'm working on my dissertation and I don't need this trouble.  PLEASE, PLEASE help me figure out if I've accidentally set something wrong.  I need answers ASAP.

    While it's readable, export your document as Word and as RTF so you will have ways to revive it if needed.
    Try to export it as Pages '08
    then open the new Pages '08 document in Pages '09 in hope that the transcoding will clean the odd behavior.
    You may also try to open the doc in an other user account. If it behaves well, you will know that something is corrupted in your current account.
    Most of the time it's the Preferences file :
    Macintosh HD:Users:<userAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
    Quit Pages
    drag the preferences file on the Desktop
    Restart Pages.
    If it behave flawlessly, the problem was in the prefs. Continue to work with the newly created prefs file.
    If nothing change, move the preferences file back in it original location to retrieve your original settings.

  • Satellite L670-1HJ -Internal Speakers are not muted when selecting line Out

    I want to use an external set of speakers, but when plugging them in, selecting line out in Realtek HD Audio Manager doesn't turn off the internal speakers, instead only reducing their volume somewhat. Selecting Headphone does switch them off, but this results in audio being sent out at headphone levels, which sounds awful on normal speakers and is therefore not an option.
    Is there a way I can either get it to switch them off when using line out too, or just disable the internal speakers altogether?

    Unfortunately, in sound properties in can only deactivate either the HDMI output, or speakers, which switches both the internal and external ones on or off together, but doesn't let me choose between the two.
    When selecting the headphone setting, the internal equalizer seems to switch to a different setting, which sounds very different and completely unnatural, so I'd prefer to find a way to use the much better sounding line out with disabled internal speakers.

  • Decode statement in Select line of a View Object Query

    I attempted to create a view object in expert mode with a customized query.
    The query had a decode statement in the select line of the query. The view
    object compiled correctly but gave an error when run.
    ex: select .... decode(CrpSchools.SCHOOLS_ID,null,CrpCustSchools.SCHOOL_NAME,CrpSchools.SCHOOL_NAME) SCHOOL_VALUE, ...
    from ....
    where ....
    The error was that school_value does not exist in the statement. I got the error when
    doing a vo.executeQuery().
    When I removed the decode statement everything worked correctly. Does anyone know if
    the decode statement cannont be used in the select line of a query in a view object?
    Or maybe I was linking the query column (SCHOOLS_ID) up to the view attribute (SCHOOL_VALUE) incorrectly in the
    Attribute Mappings tab of the VO wizard?

    There should be no problem using a DECODE() statement, provided that you've aliases the column as you have done.
    At design time, if you click on the (Test) button, does your query test ok?
    Are you by chance applying a custom where clause at runtime?
    If so, are you saying:
    setWhereClause("yourtable.column_alias = ?";
    or are you doing:
    setWhereClause("column_alias = ?";
    for an expert-mode query, you'll need to use the latter syntax.

    I have similar issue...i need help how to accomplish automatic addition on every line.  example (see below)
    this is how it looks right now
    DATE    EMPLOYEE       DEPT JOB     LOT     OPER#     LX_HRS     OP_SETUP     LX_TYPE     COMPLETE
    2/23/2009     M.Paquiao   NB         1960     001     10             1.50                14.00                     S                      NO
    2/24/2009                                                      1.00             14.00                  S                        NO
    2/25/2009                                                      4.50                14.00                  S                    NO
    2/27/2009                                                      3.00             14.00                  S                        NO
    2/28/2009                                                      1.50             14.00                  R                       YES
    3/1/2009                                                      2.00             14.00                  R                  YES
    this what I need it to do when I meant automatic addition of each line:
    DATE   EMPLOYEE     DEPT     JOB     LOT     OPER#     LX_HRS     OP_SETUP     LX_TYPE     COMPLETE
    2/23/2009     M.Paquiao      NB        1960     001     10             1.50        14.00               S         NO
    2/24/2009                                                      2.50             14.00                  S             NO
    2/25/2009                                                      7.00        14.00                  S             NO
    2/27/2009                                                      10.00     14.00               S             NO
    2/28/2009                                                      11.50     14.00               R             YES
    3/1/2009                                                      13.50     14.00               R             YES
    As you can see everything is the same but on column LX_HRS, the first example one is not doing anything addition but on the second example is now doing addition.  This additions were done manually, how can I tell crystal to add each line, in the example above, the
    first example                                              second example: (addition is involved)
    date                lx_hrs                                  date                  lx_hrs
    2/23/09           1.50                                     2/23/09              1.50
    2/24/09           1.00                                     2/24/09              2.50 (sum of : 1.50 + 1.00 was added)
    2/25/09           4.50                                     2/25/09              7.00 (sum of 2.50 (on date 2/24/09 &  4.50 from date 2/25/09 of the first example).

    Hi,
    in ML81N please enter the entry sheet header data, then go to full screen services, push the button for
    "service selection" and after that  a popup appeares for the service selection (SAPLMLSP
    0500). On the bottom of this popup you have the button "complete" = adopt all = F9. If you hit this
    button all of your services within the service specification will be copied into the entry sheet

    </rdf:RDF>now my first attempt at pulling this off worked just fine, but only for the female demographics, since the tags for female and male are identical (only the numbers/data is different) and my parser would stop after reaching the first round of tags specified.
    here's part of my code for that section, located in the main (response is the xml string returned from server):
    while ((temp = in.readLine()) != null)
                 response += temp + "\n";
            temp = null;
            in.close ();
    int left = response.indexOf("<census1:under5Years rdf:datatype=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#integer\">");
              int right = response.indexOf("</census1:under5Years>");
                   // pull out the text inside the parens
                   String parsed = response.substring(left+77, right);
                   double parseddub = Double.parseDouble(parsed);
                        //divide the group Under5Years into Under12Mo and 1to4Yr
                        double Group1Adub = parseddub*.25;//25% for Under12Mo
                        Group1Adub = Math.ceil(Group1Adub);
                        int Group1A =(int)Group1Adub;
                        double Group1Bdub = parseddub*.75;//75% for 1to4Yr
                        Group1Bdub = Math.ceil(Group1Bdub);
                        int Group1B =(int)Group1Bdub;
    //..need to basically duplicate this for 3 other age groups
    int Group1 = Group1A;
    System.out.println("Server response:\n" + "Female");
              System.out.println("Under 12 Months:    " + Group1);now basically, everything works great for the female data, but i would like to somehow loop this or selectively parse by line and then extract information from those selected lines. any thoughts? i would really appreciate some insight thanks.

    lol no offense taken. sorry for the confusion, please disregard my earlier statements... :)
    i actually was able to get the thing working, i just didn't quite understand what i was doing at first.
    however, i noticed that the regex only handles the first four lines of each group (male and female). i was wondering if there was a way to do it that's non-sequential?

    </rdf:RDF> using the regular expression, i can parse the string, but what i really need is to only parse the 8 lines designated, and they are not in sequential order, which makes it somewhat problematic.
    the format of the output i want to get should be as in the following example (female: under5, 5to9, 10to14, 15to17):
    [864, 949, 875, 534]
    same format for male of course. i'm just not sure how to edit the regex so that it can select only the lines i'm concerned with...? thanks so much i really appreciate this.
