[SOLVED] UK keyboard not mapped correctly.

Hi, all.
've just done an install and my UK/GB keyboard is not mapped correctly.
The rest of the xconfig is fine, but whether I use "uk" or "gb", I still get a US mapping.  I have checked to make sure the relevant line isn't hashed out (#).
When I
tail /var/log/X.....
, it does mention something about the US, but any mention of the US is disable (#) in the config.  Could it be that something is automatically loading it for me?
I should also mention that I have another install of Arch that is sharing the same KVM and this doesn't exhibit the problem.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris.

toad wrote:Bizarre, I don't get that. I had tons of problems until I found out that what is usually uk xorg had as gb, but everything was fine after that...
That's what happened to me on my other box and that was fine, too.
I'll have a look at the link that was posted.
Thanks,
Chris.

    After I updated, everything seemed ok and then all of the sudden I rebooted and only the f1 – f12 row would work. I resorted to resorted to unplugging and removing the battery and it would work for a short amount of time. This has been reported on other laptops as well, see here.

    My MacBook Pro keyboard not working correctly after Win7 bootcamp installation.
    Installation went well but when I boot either with OSx or Win it always keeps Windows keyboard.
    How can I have Mac keyboard in OS boot and Win keyboard in Win boot?

    Hi - I have the exact same model as your MacBook and had a few questions as mine is acting up. I upgraded the ram to 8gb (2x 4GB ram) and ever since then my computer has not been running as smoothly and the start up time is horrendous. Have you encountered this problem? And if so how did you fix? What would you advise me do?
    I was thinking of reverting back to the original factory 4GB then rebooting the entire computer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    Buttons pressing themself...
    Also, my main screen is permanently zoomed in...
    suggestions?

    Double tap the screen with THREE fingers, that should get it back to normal again.
    Then go into Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom > OFF.
    Not too sure about the keyboard and random button presses though.  Back it up and restore from iTunes, see if that fixes it.

    Hello gurmeet1126,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
    I understand the keyboard is not working correctly. I'll do my best to help, but first I require the following information:
    1. The computer's model number. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website: Guide to finding your notebook product number
    2. The computer's operating system. If you require assistance locating this information, please reference this website to determine your Windows operating system.
    3. Does this occur on certain programs, or all programs?
    4. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
    Also, try another keyboard. This will help determine whether or not the issue is with one keyboard or several. Thanks!

  • [SOLVED] GTK3 Themes Not Rendering Correctly in OpenBox

    So, I've been trying to find a way to fix this issue for a while now. In OpenBox, GTK3 applications do not display correctly when using a theme based on Adwaita. An example theme would be Elegant Brit. Menus tend to shift a pixel over when highlighted. Buttons display as all white, or as buttons from a different theme. Dunno what causes this, but it's rather annoying. I have the "gnome-standard-themes" packages installed, but this resolves nothing. When starting a GTK3 application, these types of errors are shown.
    (transmission-gtk:1274): Gtk-CRITICAL **: _gtk_css_section_to_string: assertion `section != NULL' failed
    ** (transmission-gtk:1274): WARNING **: Can't load fallback CSS resource: (null)Failed to import: The resource at '/org/gnome/adwaita/gtk-fallback.css' does not exist
    Here's an screnshot depicting what I'm talking about. http://i.imgur.com/ZkLiZ.png
    I apologize if there's a solution to this somewhere already posted. I've been through the Wiki trying to find the solution, but I've really found nothing useful. Also, I already have "gtk-engines" and "lib32-gtk-engines" installed.

    This great discussion about GTK3 and GNOME3 development explains an awful lot. It seems we are heading for one GTK3 theme only - THE theme - as dictated by determined developers attached to certain companies who will be nameless! I almost started tinkering with tweaks to GTK3 themes and I'm now so glad I didn't waste my time.

  • [solved] keyboard not working correctly on vc/1

    the behaviour is quite odd.
    when i hit ctrl-alt-f1, and switch to the first virtual console, trying to login, or even type doesnt work quite as it should.
    example, i try to login: this is what i get:
    lappy login: elragn
    password:
    when the user name should be eldragon, if i type each letter at a time, until i get it to work, i can type correctly, and its not always the same letters that dont work. of course, the password comes in blank, and sometimes, when i get it all right, i can login, and the effect contiues
    this is not a hardware issue, other virtual consoles work ok, and the keyboard works fine under Xorg.
    so, what could be wrong with this vc? anyone got a clue? ive searched the wiki, bug reports, google, and the forums (not in this order) for an answer but i came up empty.
    PD. if im posting in the wrong forum, please move it where it should go

    Hi,
    Since the problem is in the vc's, and the keymap is loaded "pre Xorg", I'd start by doing some tests there.
    I'm still a learner myself, so this might not work, or it might, either way, you've got nothing to loose
    First of all check logs for errors, maybe something pops out.
    If no errors on logs, than here's what I would do if I were you:
    (backup /etc/rc.conf , /etc/inittab , /etc/locale.gen to some directory)
    1. Let's start by isolating the problem by not going to gdm->gnome automatically, so you can test vc's themselfs more efficiently and quicker.
    take out gdm from the DAEMONS line in /etc/rc.conf (something like this)
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond alsa hal fam)
    2. let your /etc/inittab be like you have in this section (id:3)
    ## Only one of the following two lines can be uncommented!
    # Boot to console
    id:3:initdefault:
    # Boot to X11
    #id:5:initdefault:
    and comment everything here:
    # Example lines for starting a login manager
    #x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/xdm -nodaemon
    #x:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/gdm -nodaemon
    #x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon
    #x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/slim >& /dev/null
    3. do you use a non-us keyboard?
    check your rc.conf for the 1st lines, mainly your KEYMAP
    LOCALE="en_US.utf8"
    HARDWARECLOCK="UTC"
    USEDIRECTISA="no"
    TIMEZONE="your.timezone.here"
    KEYMAP="your.keymap.here"
    CONSOLEFONT=
    CONSOLEMAP=
    USECOLOR="yes"
    confirm that your keymap exists in /usr/share/kbd/keymaps and double confirm the name is right, example:
    for US keyboard the file is 'us.map.gz' so KEYMAP="us" (take out .map.gz); in case your keyboard is not US, check the name, as some have more letters than others
    (usually /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty unless your pc is not i386 or qwerty ofc )
    4. reboot pc.
       You'll be in vc/1.
       Now, instead of jumping in consoles with ctr-alt-Fx, try jumping just with Alt+Fx. (if it doesn't work, go ctrl+alt+fx ofc)
       Do Alt+F2 and start typing as normal, anything and manything at any speed and confirm is good. Don't press enter. Just testing keystrokes.
       Do Alt+F3, Alt+F4, Alt+F5 and test the same for each vc.
       Now for the final and problematic one, go Alt+F1 and test.
       If it's good, then probably your problem is on X/gdm/gnome or anything that is loading after vc, or if you changed your keymap, then that was the faulty thing.
       If it's not good, keep on reading
    5. don't enter in vc/1, rather jump to vc/2 or 3 or something and enter as root, let's edit your /etc/rc.conf again.
    copy to a piece of paper your 1st options in case they are different from below:
    LOCALE="en_US.utf8"
    HARDWARECLOCK="UTC"
    USEDIRECTISA="no"
    TIMEZONE="your.timezone.here"
    KEYMAP="us"
    CONSOLEFONT=
    CONSOLEMAP=
    USECOLOR="yes"
    basicly is trying to put it to a default state. Put your options just like they are above, except TIMEZONE, you can put yours, I don't remember default one.
    Reboot and test again just like in step 4.
    If it doesn't work, you might give a look at /etc/locale.gen and just uncomment these 2 lines:
    #en_SG.UTF-8 UTF-8
    #en_SG ISO-8859-1
    en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
    en_US ISO-8859-1
    #en_ZA.UTF-8 UTF-8
    #en_ZA ISO-8859-1
    leave every other line commented. in case you had some of your own uncommented, copy to a paper wich ones were, and comment them.
    write in console
    locale-gen
    let it end generating the locales, reboot, and step 4 again.
    6. Still not working, let's try to put things bad proposedly! Change your KEYMAP to another one, if qwerty, just choose another qwerty language, all letters should be on same place, except for punctuation ofc.
      Reboot and try again as step 4.
      Still not working? Change the LOCALE and keep your wrong qwerty keyboard. (LOCALE will probably change some words, like password to it's LOCALE language, etc).
      Reboot and try again as step 4.
      Still not working? ok, final attempt, change back your LOCALE and your KEYMAP to the values you had before, the correct ones.
      Reboot and try again as step 4.
    7. If still not working, well, for now I don't know much more. Take in consideration that the boot process goes through several steps, the error might be in one of those steps. One last thing you can try, altho I think it works just in DE/WM modes, I've read in some posts (here or not, can't remember) that by pressing Ctrl-Alt-K you can change your keyboard layout, assuming you have a second one, and use them for different things, I think the example I read on the post was something like, you wanna code in english but talk in irc in russian for example.
    I kinda doubt it works, but if it also activates in vc's mode, then you could have pressed it accidently (like when doing ctrl-alt-fx, your finger slipped ).
    press ctrl-alt-k, type a few letters, press ctrl-alt-k again, type more letters, and you'll see if it does something or not.
    Again, just try, you got nothing to loose
    One thing I noticed, is that when trying to put some characters on vc as username, it acts as delete, some even erase the all line in one go and some don't do nothing, some of the characters were # @ £ §.
    8. Since it didn't work, let's put everything as it was.
    8.1. go to /etc/inittab and put like this:
    (comment id:3, uncomment id:5 // uncomment x:5:...gdm...)
    ## Only one of the following two lines can be uncommented!
    # Boot to console
    #id:3:initdefault:
    # Boot to X11
    id:5:initdefault:
    # Example lines for starting a login manager
    #x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/xdm -nodaemon
    x:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/gdm -nodaemon
    #x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon
    #x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/slim >& /dev/null
    8.2. edit /etc/rc.conf and DON'T put back the gdm on daemons line.
      Alter the 1st lines ranging from LOCALE to USECOLOR to the ones you copied to a paper.
    8.3. comment/uncomment the locales on /etc/locale.gen as you have on paper and run in console
    locale-gen
    8.4. you're set, reboot and you're on gdm->gnome again. (still no vc/1 working tho )
    note: in your initial /etc/iniitab you had id:3 uncommented and gdm on daemons, so you would go automatically to gdm as you started your pc, but, what if something happens and you need to go to another mode before gdm runs? you couldn't do it easily with gdm on daemons.
    If you put it like I wrote above, when you turn on the pc, it's the same, you go automatically to the gdm, but, in case something happens, you can always go to another mode before gdm runs, by doing the following (read here on wiki or foruns, will put link when I find it)
    Pc reboots and you're on GRUB, press 'e', choose the kernel and press 'e' again, go to the end of the line where it says 'ro', and add a 3 to the end, to look like this 'ro 3', press 'b' (boot) and you're on mode 3 without going to gdm
      But ofc, this is just a choice, if you prefer to have as you had it, by all means, just put gdm on daemons line, and your /etc/inittab as initially, that's the beauty of Linux, it's to your fit
    Good Luck!

  • Styles Not Mapped Correctly in Output

    I am using RoboHelp 8 and I am trying to produce printed documentation from a WebHelp project. I have chosen to use styles from a Microsoft Word template. I have a RoboHelp paragraph style named NumberedProcedure mapped to a Word paragraph style named numbered list. When the document is created the procedures are correctly numbered, but the style is listed as Normal and the formatting is not correct. I have the same problem with bulleted lists - they appear OK, but the wrong Microsoft Word style is selected even though I mapped it correctly in RoboHelp. Is this problem occurring because I am not using list styles? If not, does anyone have a suggestion for correcting the issue?
    Thanks!

    You cannot map lists in any version of RoboHelp. RoboHelp 9 allows you to map multi-level lists.
    Mapping paragraphs that are really lists has always been fraught with problems.

  • Third party keyboard not working correctly.

    I have hooked up a Kensington PilotBoard USB keyboard to my G4 PB 17". The regular keyboard keys (letters, numbers, shift keys) work but the function keys do not, and none of the key commands work. I've loaded the keyboard software, but when I open it, it indicates that no keyboard is detected.
    Incidentally, I could not find the software on the Kensington website with the same model number (#64378), so I'm wondering if that could be it. Also, the regular keyboard on the laptop works fine.
    Another observation: I'm still running Panther, but a friend who is running Tiger said his computer opened up a dialog box when he plugged in an older third party keyboard which helped him to match up the keyboard. Do I need to upgrade my operating system software?
    Any input is much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Keyboard not inputting correct keys

    Dear Apple users,
    My keyboard is not inputting the correct letters whenever I type. My C, D and several other keys don't work, the Option key isn't functioning, and the mouse pointer disappears and only appears when I move the mouse.
    This prevents me from running Apple Hardware test, cos I couldn't hold down the C key. It also prevents me from rebuilding my desktop (can't use Option). And I also can't input commands in terminal without all my keys working properly.
    Please advice what I should do. This started last week, and I'm running on the G4 Cube OS 10.3.X (latest update).
    Thank you in advance!
    Worried.

    Hi, 3 character -
    How to open it depends on the brand of keyboard. This article describes opening and cleaning an Apple Pro keyboard, such as the one that came with the original G4 models -
    Disassembly of an Apple Pro Keyboard
    Doing that is not an easy task.
    More to the point, perhaps, it may not help. It all depends upon the original source of contamination or defect.
    Underneath each key on the keyboard is a microswitch of some kind, usually a wafer switch (think of an inverted dimple) - pressing a key activates the momentary-contact switch assigned to that key. The switches are interconnected by a layer of printed circuitry, which in turn is connected to a circuit board inside the keyboard.
    If the cause for a key hanging is simply dirt, then manual cleaning may be effective. Sometimes just popping the key cap off will give sufficient access to clean the contaminant away.
    However, the usual cause for keys misfiring or malfunctioning is contamination by liquid of some kind - a spilled drink, an accidental splash of sweat or overspray from watering a plant, or even a pet expressing its opinion. If it was plain water, there may be no lasting damage. However, if it was a liquid containing sugar, alcohol, or anything acidic or acid-causing, there may be permanent damage - the very thin copper in the printed circuitry is susceptible to being etched beyond recovery by such liquids if left for too long (overnight is often 'too long').
    One solution for that if addressed quickly enough is to wash the keyboard rather than disassembling it. To do that, get a couple of gallons of distilled water (such as used for steam irons). Fill a dispan with warm (not hot) distelled water, and immerse the keyboard in it. Slosh it around a bit. Repeat with a fresh batch of distilled water as a rinse. Then hang the keyboard up by one corner to dry - this can take a couple of days. A fan can be used to help the drying, but don't use a heat-source, such as a hair dryer - this can damage the plastic.
    Unfortunately, all too often when liquid gets into a keyboard it means a new keyboard will be needed. If it turns out that you do need a new one, you need not get an Apple-label keyboard. There are many Mac-compatible keyboards available, from folk such as Macally, Logitech, Kensington, and others. Just be sure the keyboard is described as Mac-compatible, else the startup keyboard command set may not work. Macally in particular offers keyboards which are fully Mac-compatible.

  • Keyboard not working correctly in Finder

    Hello Everyone,
    Lately I have been having a problem where suddenly the letter and number keys stop working in the Finder, but JUST in the Finder. For example, if I make a new folder on the desktop, I cannot rename it, because the letter keys aren't working. I can, however, option-click and drag it to make a copy. I also can ctrl-left click to simulate a right click. All of the function keys (F1-F12) work correctly.
    Additionally, the entire keyboard works perfectly in any other program. Right now, as I type, I cannot use these same keys if I clicked into the Finder. A restart alleviates the problem, but only temporarily. It has happened about once a day so far this week, and twice today already. Before this week, it has happened about 3 times, spread out by weeks. Does anyone have any ideas of steps I can take to fix this, or if this sounds familiar to anyone?
    I should also mention this is my work computer, and I am on it about 8-10 hours a day.
    Thank you in advance for any help or feedback!

    reset your finder preferences. delete the file home directory/library/preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. then control-option-click on finder in the dock and choose "relaunch".

  • F# keys on Apple Wireless Keyboard not working correctly.

    Hello everyone,
    Today I bought a brand new Apple Wireless Keyboard (the small ones who resemble laptop keyboards), which I'm very glad I bought as some keys on my older keyboard started not working anymore.
    I configured the keyboard with bluetooth and it's working just fine, except for one thing:
    The F# keys don't work as their respective icons indicate (i.e. If I press F10, F11 and/or F12, the volume isn't affected as it normally should, but instead the keys don't seem to respond, as if I weren't pressing them).
    In the Keyboard & Mouse panel in System Preferences, under the Keyboard Shortcuts, I managed to reset the F1 to F4 keys so they work as their respective icons indicate, though I didn't find and don't know how to create any shortcuts to make the volume keys (F10, F11 & F12) work again.
    Also, I would appreciate if you could help me out to reset the F7, F8 & F9 keys, which don't work either.
    I tried checking and un-checking the "Use the keys F1, F2 and so on, as standard function keys." option under the Keyboard tab, and pressing the "fn" key while pressing the F# keys, but none of those attempts seem to change anything to how the F# keys work.
    I don't know what else to do anymore and I would really appreciate some help now.
    Thanks in advance for your responses,
    Oscar.

    Shutdown your macbook.After thats done , switch the wireless keyboard off. Press Shift + Ctrl + Option  + Power Key (all together ) and then release together. Start up the macbook and once that's up start up the keyboard.Try now.The keys should work fine.

  • [Solved] Nested setActionListener not working correctly.

    Hi,
    I'm having a situation where I have to load some xml and display the values on the screen. The results can be filtered by selecting a value in a selectOneChoice component. Please consider the example below, which is a reproducible scenario, just to show the 'wrong' (?) behavior.
    The ValueChange bean initialize some lists and handles the selection change of the selectOneChoice component on the .jspx page. The onValueChange method will 'filter' the data everytime a selection change. The filterItems method will clear the personItems list and add a new object to the list, depending on the selected value:
    public class ValueChange {
        private List someSelectItems;
        private String selectedValue;
        private List personItems;
        private Person person1 = new Person("1", "Larry", "Ellison");
        private Person person2 = new Person("2", "Bill", "Gates");
        private Person person3 = new Person("3", "Steve", "Jobs");
        public ValueChange() {
         System.out.println(this.getClass() + " Init");
         this.someSelectItems = new ArrayList();
         someSelectItems.add(new SelectItem("1", "Oracle"));
         someSelectItems.add(new SelectItem("2", "MicroSoft"));
         someSelectItems.add(new SelectItem("3", "Apple"));
         this.personItems = new ArrayList();
         this.personItems.add(person1);
        public List getSomeSelectItems() {
         // Fill this list.
         return someSelectItems;
        public void onValueChange(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
         System.out.println("Current Class: ValueChange - Current Method: onDocumentLanguageValueChange");
         if (valueChangeEvent != null) {
             String vValue = valueChangeEvent.getNewValue().toString();
             filterItems(vValue);
        public void setSelectedValue(String selectedValue) {
         this.selectedValue = selectedValue;
        public String getSelectedValue() {
         return selectedValue;
        private void filterItems(String pValue) {
         this.personItems.clear();
         if (pValue.equals("1")) {

         this.personItems = personItems;
        public List getPersonItems() {
         return personItems;
    }The person class is just a simple bean containing some attributes + getters and setters:
    public class Person {
        private String id;
        private String firstname;
        private String lastname;
        public Person(String pId, String pFirstname, String pLastname) {
         this.id = pId;
         this.firstname = pFirstname;
         this.lastname = pLastname;
        public void setId(String id) {
         this.id = id;
        public String getId() {
         return id;
        public void setFirstname(String firstname) {
         this.firstname = firstname;
        public String getFirstname() {
         return firstname;
        public void setLastname(String lastname) {
         this.lastname = lastname;
        public String getLastname() {
         return lastname;
    }On the start page of the example, the selectOneChoice will be rendered + the data matching to the selected item. I'm using a commandLink to open a detail page. The commandLink contains a nested af:setActionListener which should set the whole current person instance to a sessionScope variable. (But his seems to fail.]

    Thanks in advance,

    It seems that it has something to do with the fact that I set the value of the selectOneChoice to 1.
    <af:selectOneChoice id="selectValue" autoSubmit="true" value="1"
                                    valueChangeListener="#{valueChange.onValueChange}">
                  <f:selectItems value="#{valueChange.someSelectItems}"/>
    </af:selectOneChoice>I modified the value attribute to:
    value="#{valueChange.selectedValue}"Where selectedValue is an attribute in my ValueChange class, containing a default value. Getters and setters are also generated.
    private String selectedValue = "1"When I run the application again, after making these changes, I'm able to pass the correct data to the detail page. But: as soons as I select the 'default value' in the selectOneChoice, no valueChange is detected and thus my data does not gets filtered.
    Since the valueChange instance is a request-scoped bean, a value change is not detected because the current value equals the default value (question: am I right here?).
    Setting the bean to session scope let the example fully works.
    Although it works, I think it should be better to let the bean on request scope and stored a 'selected' value attribute on the sessionScope.
    Thanks,

  • SOLVED:Tabs is not displayed correctly?

    Gang,
    I have a very strange problem which I can't really understand why APEX behaves it way it does (well I've probably told APEX to do so, but I can't understand why).
    I have 3 Parent Tabs:
    T_PAGE1
    T_REPORTS
    T_ADMIN
    All of the Parent Tabs have one or more Standard Tabs associated to them. And each Standard Tab is associated with one or more pages.
    But the strange thing is that I have associated page 3 with a std tab which then belongs to the T_REPORTS Parent Tab. If I run the page the Parent Tabs are not displayed at all, but the Standard Tab is (and also the breadcrumb). I did assign the tabs to the page when I created the page and I have retried the same thing a couple of times with the same result.
    And if I run any other page in my application I can see the Parent Tabs and if I click on the Parent Tab (T_REPORTS) the Parent Tabs disappears and I only see the std tab.
    Any ideas or is this completely confusing for you as it is for me ???
    Cheers,
    Andy

    I should really make myself a martini and stop thinking that I can build APEX apps. The issue was that I had assigned my T_REPORTS Tab with the wrong Parent Tab. Doh!

    Glad your first experience on the Arch forums was successful. Don't forget to edit the thread title to make it say "Solved".
