[solved]unresolvable nvidia driver install conflicts with libgl
ima totall noob that just got arch up and going about an hour ago on my x64 box....ok so all I want to do is get evilwm and or xorg going yet if i exec evilwn i get..."can't open display" then it logs me out...if i try to "startx" i get scrambled static colors (havent touched any x conf files).....so i figured i needed to install the drivers for my nvidia geforece 9600 gt video card via "pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils".....yet when i do this i am confronted with the folllowing.........."resolving dependencies... looking for inter-conflicts... :: nvidia-utils and libgl are in conflict. Remove libgl?" At this point if i answer yes the following occurs....
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: ati-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
:: intel-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
:: mach64-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
:: mga-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
:: r128-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
:: savage-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
:: sis-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
:: tdfx-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
and if i answer No i am confronted with the following
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: nvidia-utils and libgl are in conflict
Any help would be much appreciated

[SOLVED] Problem with nvidia driver install/uninstall
A while ago I installed the 177.70 driver from nvidia's site, then I was trying to install the 177.80 and to remove the .70 first, I tried
sh NVIDIA-filename.177.70.run --uninstall
And the installer told me no nvidia driver was found. I haven't been able to install a newer driver since every time I tried X would give me a driver mismatch error on start-up. I am hesitant to manually remove any files, how would I fully get rid of 177.70 so I can install a newer one??
TIA

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.11-pkg1.run -a -q -s -N --no-opengl-headers
Assuming you're on 32-bit. To let Nvidia's installer sort out your mess.

Nvidia driver install with pacman available
hi
you can find a nvidia package in tpowa repo
ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/tur/tpowa
now it is possible to add /update remove nvidia drivers with pacman
at the moment it works with kernel 2.6.5
not with the scsi kernel
i'll try to fix that
please test it and give feedback
thankshm if you update your kernel to 2.6.5-3
you have to update to gcc 3.4 too
the nvidia drivers have to be built with the same compiler that was used for the kernel
2.6.5-3 was built with gcc 3.4
--> nvidia driver has to be built with gcc 3.4
upgrade both packages and do
reboot for the new kernel and then X will not start due of failing nvidia module, login as root and run:
pacman -S nvidia
now you can start X and it should work :-)
so it worked for me -
Nvidia driver installed, can't install intel driver
Hi,
I have a w520 laptop with nvidia optimus.
Before installing Linux, I disabled optimus and set graphics to discrete graphics in bios.
Now I want to install intel graphics too and use it from time to time and perhaps use optimus with bumblebee later. The problem is that I cannot install the intel driver.
When I run
pacman -Sy xf86-video-intel
pacman tries to install libgl package as a dependency which is in conflict with nvidia-utils and asks for removing it.
Any ideas what to do? I guess nvidia card will not work without this package. Is there any way to have both of them. (I am not shooting for optimus yet, I just want to make them work separately, the next step is to install bumblebee)shayan wrote:The problem is lots of package are dependent on it ( including gnome3) and I cannot remove all of them.
nvidia-utils-bumblebee provides nvidia-utils, so you can remove nvidia-utils ignoring dependencies (read pacman's man page). -
Having trouble getting the nvidia driver installed.
i'm trying to install the nvidia driver for a EVGA 8800 GTS. I ran pacman -S nvidia as the guide said but got this error:
error: could not prepare transaction
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
klibc-kdb: /lib/initcpio/hooks/keymap exists in filesystem
klibc-kdb: /lib/initcpio/install/keymap exists in filesystem
errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
sorry, i'm new to arch, so can anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks
xhhuxThat is a known error (see this:http://www.archlinux.org/news/391/
The best way to get around it is to explicitly force the install of gpm then carry on with the update, i.e
pacman -Syf gpm
pacman -Syu
EDIT: You will most likely get a kernel upgrade while bringing your system in-sync with the repos, don't forget that you will need to reboot in order to use the new kernel.

Pourquoi ce message, car le driver de la carte Nvidia GT8500 est à jour !
fclau
There is a known major issue with Premiere Elements 10 on a computer that uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. The answer is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. You do not want an up to date driver in this case. For some computer operating systems like Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, this roll back fix is not possible because the video card/graphics card driver versions available do not go back far enough.
This matter has been written about extensively in this forum for over a year. And, there is an Announcement about this matter at the top of this forum.
Also see
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE10: NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
and
NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search
which will help you identify the driver version and download/install it.
According to what you wrote and assuming that your Windows XP is SP3 32 bit, your NVIDIA drivers page should look like this after you plug in your data.
And based on history, your choice in the above should be GeForce 320.18 Driver 320.18 May 23, 2013.
Please review and consider. And, then let us know if we have interpreted your information correctly.
Thank you.

Possibly stupid question re: nvidia driver install
Hi there. I was wondering... Is it possible to install the nvidia driver without compiling the kernel? I don't want to repartition my drive to give Arch the space it would need to do that, and even if I had the space I'd rather not have to waste time compiling.
As a side curiousity, if I do indeed need to rebuild the kernel, can anyone explain why I need to? It seems to me that if whoever compiled it in the first place included the sources they used, and if they made a copy available, it would avoid a lot of hassle. Am I wrong?
Thanks in advance.Pink Chick wrote:
OK - 1.) get source from kernel.org
OK - 2.) extract it in /usr/src
No - 3.) ln -s linux-2.6.4 linux (this step is debateable whither is necassary or not)
OK - 4.) run the NVidia installer (say yes compile me one when it says it can't find any on nvidia's site)
OK - 5.) update XF86Config-4
OK - 6.) add nvidia to the modules like of rc.conf
Just wanted to debate. If you fetched the kernel source, you should have a look inside its readme. There is a strong warning not to link your source to linux. Instead, give your nvidia installer the option where to find the source.
nvinstaller --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux-2.6.4/
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. Will not do that any more

E5510 driver install issues with 6300 wifi and Bluetooth
I hope someone can help. I have an E5510 that the hard disk crashed on. When I reload the windows 7 disk and install all of the drivers I seem to have a conflict between the 6300 wifi driver and the bluetooth drivers. Everything looks good until I do the windows updates. Then the bluetooth goes away and I have a bunch of wifi driver errors in the device manager. you cant uninstall them. Anyone have any ideas?
Hi bwing777,
Thanks for the post! It sounds like the Windows update could have a ‘Microsoft recommended’ Bluetooth driver update included. I would suggest running a system restore or uninstalling the Bluetooth device, then double checking the device drivers being installed by Microsoft Update and preventing them from updating automatically.
For the recommended Dell drivers, and the order we suggest these drivers be installed, check out the guide below.

Nvidia Driver install problem after new kernel
i recentyl updated my kernel to 2.4.22 and added bootsplash support.. that works perfectly and the kernel works good.. except i have to rei stgall the nvidia driver.. but it gives me an errror that it cannot find kernel header file sources.. i made the package in /usr/abs/kernels/kernel did makepkg.. it made it find and it has a pkg/src directory.. i copied the src of the kernel to /usr/src/linux so theres /usr/src/linux/2.4.22 but it still will not work and cannot make the module and load it.. still gives methat i tcannot find kernel header files... any help would be great
-bolerowell you should have the headers if you used makepkg to rebuild your kernel as part of the pacakge creates a /usr/src/linux directory that holds all necessary headers.
if you did not use makepkg to build you kernel then you obviously did not create a /usr/src/linux directory (you do this by untarring the kernel source in /usr/src than symlinking the untarred source directory (linux-2.4.22 in your case) to linux (ln -s linux-2.4.22 linux). -

No display after nvidia driver install [SOLVED!]
Hi guys,
Just set up my first install of Arch and I'm loving it. Just I have one Problem; I installed the Nvidia drivers as per the wiki for my nvidia 6800gt, but after changing my driver from "nv" to "nvidia" I no longer get any visual feedback from x; "Sync out of range" is shown on my monitor.
When I try to run glxgears I get the following error:
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual.
The thing is, I load GLX and double buffer visual in my xorg.conf file.
I am using the 2.6.10 kernel on an Athlon 64, msi k8t neo board.
Thanks in AdvanceHey, by the way, for that 'glxgears' error you mentioned above, I forgot about this. Read the bottom part.
Could that be part of the problem? Are you using composite extension?
* Personally, I removed any instance of multiple "Device" listings (like 'VGA') in mine and modified the "Server Layout" Section, as shown below.
Here are relevant (Section) snipets from my 'xorg.conf', if it helps:

[SOLVED]Mounting usb drives "not authorized" with thunar-volman (XFCE)
Hi,
I'm new to Arch (even though I must be approximately at my 15th try at installing it properly) and I have a problem with thunar-volman.
Whenever I log in as user, and try to mount a usb drive with thunar, let's say I want to plug a drive labeled Ext3_8Go, I get the same message in a pop-up window : "Failed to mount Ext3_8Go (or anything close, not in English in the text), not authorized (that part is in English)"
My install is :
- net install
- partitions : 9Go for /, no swap, no separate /home
- packages : base and base-devel. The only modifications in the package list is that I remove ppp, pcmciautils, and xfsprogs.
- config : at the install stage I only modify rc.conf to change LOCALE and HOSTNAME, and pacman's mirrorlist to allow all French mirrors in addition to the one at the top.
When the usb installation is over, I run this script :
"installation_xfce.sh" (there may be some errors left, I modify this script as I learn) :
#!/bin/bash
# expected environment : freshly installed archlinux, login : root.
echo "Are you connected to internet ? If not, please Ctrl+C and reload this script when connected"
echo "Otherwise, press ENTER to continue installation"

For those who don't have time to read the installation script, DBUS is in the DAEMONS list of rc.conf, and .xinitrc launches : exec ck-launch-session startxfce4
Any idea ?

That worked !
I stumbled across this part of the wiki several times before, but didn't really understand so I had not tried.
If anyone's interested in the script, here's the corrected version :
#!/bin/bash
# expected environment : freshly installed archlinux, login : root.
echo "Are you connected to internet ? If not, please Ctrl+C and reload this script when connected"
echo "Otherwise, press ENTER to continue installation"
read var_dummy

Windows 7 Won't Boot After Nvidia Driver Installed, MSI Gaming N770
Hi I just bought the MSI Gaming N770 2gb and after installing the nvidia drivers, Windows 7 will not boot after my motherboard POSTs.
I bought this to replace an AMD card. I uninstalled all the AMD drivers before putting in the MSI card. I've also run the Display Driver Uninstaller in Safe Mode and everything.
After a few hours of research, I finally came across a thread about flashing a vbios, and something about these cards not working with motherboards with UEFI bios.
I'm using a P8Z77-I Deluxe mini-itx board, with a Rosewill 630W psu.
I have both 6+2 PCI pins plugged into the two 8pin power ports on the GPU.
Is this an issue that can be fixed with turning off secure boot? or by flashing a vbios onto the card? Or is the card a dud? Or do I have to re-install Windows.
If the vbios is required, are there instructions on how to flash it? I have no idea how to flash a BIOS. Thank you!!Had to update BIOS. All fixed!!!!

Got a T61 with the Nvidia Quatro NVS 140M vidcard. I installed Kubuntu, everythig was uneventfull. I went to the hardware section and enabled the proprietary driver. It downloaded and installed and told me to reboot. After reboot, the operating system loads for awhile and then the screen goes blank. If I leave it, I can hear the sign-in music but the screen stays blanks. This is repeatable.
How do I fix this?Heh. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Eg:
bash-3.2# pacman -Qo /opt/kde/share/apps/kdeui/about/bar-bottom-left.png
/opt/kde/share/apps/kdeui/about/bar-bottom-left.png is owned by kdemod-ui-kde 3.5.9-2
My error, not correctly removed KDEMod.
Done:
pacman -Rd kdemod-ui-kde
then worked fine!
Problem solved!
Thanks for the advice.

After upgrading to Lion I can't access time capsule pre lion.
Last week I backedup to time capsule via cable. I then upgraded to Lion. After upgrading I backedup to TC again. Now my MBP 17 can't access time capsule pre lion. So I can't see any of my last 2 years of Snow Leopard data.
