My desktop does still updates some packages and all is fine.
Why does pacman on the 1st pc refuse work?
Thx for any hints

I wonder cause I use the same mirrorlists for both pcs and only one update is working well.
But reflector brought the notebook back to work. Thank you. I did'nt know about before.

    My operating system is Mac OS X 10.6.8 and when I'm surfing the web, it tells me I need to update my browser however when I check for updates, nothing comes up. What do I need to do to get Mac OS X Lion v10.7?

    Software update will only bring you up to the current level of the system you are using - you are at the maximum for Snow Leopard. To get Lion or higher you will have to go to the Mac App Store in Applications and purchase it there (Yosemite is free). You will need to check that your Mac meets the requirements and you should particularly note that PPC programs such as AppleWorks will not run in Lion or above.
    The requirements for Lion are:
    Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
    Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Yosemite (10.10.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
    The requirements for Mountain Lion and Yosemite are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
    MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
    Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
    Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Yosemite is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). Mountain Lion can be obtained the Online Apple Store. (Mavericks is no longer available.)
    If the problem is only with Safari and you are otherwise happy with Snow Leopard you could switch to FireFox (free) - the latest version of that will run in Snow Leopard.

    You're not alone > Apps update not working. Was before but...: Apple Support Communities
    Try again later today or tomorrow.
    The problem has been reported to Apple.
    The WhatsApp app should sync when the issues are resolved.

    I have an Ipod touch 6 and can't updated apps. When I click update, nothing happen. Any clue?
    Thanks,

    There is no iPod Touch 6.  The latest generation is iPod Touch 5.  Perhaps you mean you have an iPod running iOS 6.1.6.  If so, you have a 4th generation iPod which cannot update past 6.1.6.  A 5th generation iPod can run iOS 7

  • App Store is showing I have 5 updates but when I go into updates nothing appears

    App Store is showing that I have 5 updates but when I go into updates nothing appears. I'm not even getting the message that all apps are up to date. I've shut down and restarted but that has not resolved the issue.

    Try updating from here:
    App Store>Purchased>Select "All"
    Note: You'll have to look out for apps that have the word "Update"

  • When i put my iphone in sleep mode it open itself and a messege appeares for a fraction of a second i could not read it i restarted it and downloaded the last update nothing solved

    Yesterday my iphone opened itself i hit the sleep button . After15 seconds it opened again ,a messege appeares for a fraction of a seconed i could not read it and i tried to shoot it but i couldn't .from yesterday this is the 3rd time that i recharge my iphone .

    Hey saandyy,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    You can try to restart the iPhone to exit recovery mode.
    Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
    Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

    When I saw this, I decided to save the diffrent files that were conflicting, copy them in a zip file and run the following command
    sudo pacman -Syuf
    After a reboot, the language turned from French to English. Now that the system is in english there are some french characters that don't display correctly. But when I went on the ArchLinux website, I saw that we had to manually delete the files before updating (that's when I felt stupid a little bit..).
    But now that this is done, there may be other things buggy . First of all, I want to fix the language issue (it may be has to do with the fact that archlinux moved from initscript to systemd?). Then if anyone has any idea about what could have been messed up, let me know (and if you have a fix, I'd love to be whistled about that ).

    I think there's nothing new for me in what Tom posted. I already had the configuration set up in /etc/locale.conf.
    LANG=fr_CA.UTF-8
    LC_TIME=fr_CA.UTF-8
    However I noticed that when i shutdown my pc, some daemons fail to stop/execute themselves:
    - Crond [FAIL]
    - NetworkManger [FAIL]
    - SIGTERM to process [FAIL]
    - SIGKILL to process [FAIL]

    This option should be used with care, ideally not at all.
    You just forced 80 updates at once. Don't do that. The fontconfig update has it's own news post: News: Fontconfig 2.10.1 update - manual intervention required.
    You should have read that.
    Hopefully Tom's post will help you fix your language problem. In the future, don't force anything unless you're explicitly told to via news post.
    I realize I shouldn't have done this, but it's by making errors you learn, isn't it? Now, Tom's post doesn't look useful since it seems it doesn't differ from my own configuration.
    There's actually a person who had a similar problem (I think) as we can see in Tom's post comments since he has this too:
    LANG=
    LC_CTYPE="POSIX"
    LC_NUMERIC="POSIX"
    LC_TIME="POSIX"
    LC_COLLATE="POSIX"
    LC_MONETARY="POSIX"
    LC_MESSAGES="POSIX"
    LC_PAPER="POSIX"
    LC_NAME="POSIX"
    LC_ADDRESS="POSIX"
    LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX"
    LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX"
    LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX"
    LC_ALL=
    But his system is configured with systemd when my configuration is with initscripts... So the problem isn't solved yet!

  • Since Mountain Lion update nothing is right. Please Help!!!

    I updated my macbook from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and nothing seems to be working right. Here is just a few things I have noticed...
    Battery life *****. It drains really fast. Almost as fast as my iPhone 4s
    Start up (sometimes up to 2-3 mins)
    shut down (sometimes up to 5 mins)
    Now all of the sudden my mouse is uncontrollable almost 75 percent of the day. It's like I have not control what so ever, and it clicks and opens everything.
    I have read somewhere that its from dirty hands. Not true I'm really OCD and never use with dirty hands. Battery seems fine as well. I took the back off and looked. I don't know what to do. I'm thinking of trying to go back to Snow Leopard, but don't know how. My macbook is only a late 2009 model the white 13 inch, so it can't be because it's old. If anyone can help me solve my issues that would be great because I like Lion, but this is getting really frustrating. I'm taking online classes and it takes me all day to do my assignments. I feel like I'm on a PC again. I would try and look for more help myself but I cant control my mouse long enough to do anything, and iphone battery want stay charged long enough either . Took me for ever to get this typed. I don't know a whole lot about computers either so I'll need dummy instructions if you can help. That's another reason I'm a Mac, because it's suppose to be simple.

  • After last update nothing worked......

    After updating the last time nothing worked, it even deleted my iPhone and had to reinstall everything.
    I followed the steps to reinstall iTunes and Quicktime Pro as indicated in Apple support, and also reinstalled Safari.
    Itunes           -> OK (Luckily and allowed me to backup the iPhone).
    Quicktime     -> Doesn't open (only works if I take a file and right button "open with").
    Safari            -> If I install Safari nothing works at all, cannot access Itunes store and it is impossible to navigate with Safari.
    Tried it at least 5 times, but always the same.
    So I don't install Safari, and Quicktime doesn't work properly.
    Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

    This solved everything :

  • Software update, nothing but headaches.....

    About two weeks ago, I woke up to a message on my phone that said a software update had been downloaded and the phone needed to restart to install. I wish I'd known then what a headache this was going to cause me.
    A few days later I noticed that my phone wasn't ringing, my notification sounds weren't playing, and my alarm was going off on the screen but no sound. I always use my phone as my alarm clock, but can't trust it now. I turned my phone off and back on and the problem resolved. It has done it 5 or 6 more times since then. I'm on call for my job every three weeks, and I couldn't trust that my phone was going to ring this past week. Very frustrating.
    I've also had an increase in problems making calls and typing text messages. When I try to make a call it acts like it is connecting but I don't hear the phone ring or anything. My husband said it is connecting, and he can hear me, but I can't hear anything. When typing text messages, it will freeze up and I have to exit the message and go back in before it will let me type.
    I'm loathe to do a factory reset because of the amount of time it takes to get the phone back to the way I like it. Is this going to be my only option? When I first got my Droid 2, it was replaced twice in the first three months because I had nothing but problems. The 2nd time was a refurbished Droid 2 Global and it has been an OK phone. I've spent so much time dealing with technical issues though that I'm about ready to send Verizon a bill for my time.
    I'm not able to upgrade until August, but I can assure you I will never buy another Motorola phone.
    Is anyone else having the same problems since the update? Any solutions to the problems I'm having?

    Have you tried booting in Safe Mode and see if the device works as needed?   Try follow these steps and if this doesnt help then I would say its time to try a hared reset because issues do have a habit of showing its evil head after a update because of the update process changes and updates files but doesnt delete any personal settings and the old settings sometimes cause issues..
    Try booting in Safe Mode and then consider a Hard Rest.
    Enable Safe Mode
    Press and hold the Power button.
    Select Power off.
    Slide the keyboard open.
    Press the Power button.
    Press and hold the OK key.
    Continue to hold the OK key until Safe mode appears in the lower-left of the unlock screen.
    This may take up to 30 seconds.
    While in Safe Mode, remove the most recently installed applications.
    Power cycle the device then attempt to use the device.
    If the device works properly, install applications one at a time to identify the application causing the problem.

  • [SOLVED] Updating Xorg screwed up my screen-resolution.

    After doing pacman -Syu earlier this evening, my screen-resolution was screwed up. One of the packages that was updated by pacman -Syu was X to 1.7.1-1 and all of its depencies.
    I downgraded xorg (and its dependencies) to 1.6.3.901-1 and after that everything is working fine again.
    I'm trying to figure out why the update failed, but to be honest I don't know where to look for clues. The only thing I can come up with is that maybe it would be better to update X without X running.
    Before I try this solution I need some feedback on this. So if you could please give your comments/advise towards the following issues:
    1. Is it better to update X without X running?
    2. Where would I have to look for clues to find out why the update of X failed?
    Thxs.

    I have a similiar problem except that my X hang the whole computer. I have an Intel card and maybe thats the reason for the hang. To answer 1., I did my upgrade without X running, so that doesn't prevent bad things from happening. I downgraded to the previous version, as you did, and now everything is working again.
    With respect to 2., I looked into Xorg log and found nothing relevant to this problem.

  • [Solved]update-desktop-database doesn't work

    The output is:

    The databases in [/usr/local/share/applications, /usr/share/applications] could not be updated.
    Can anyone help?

  • [SOLVED] update removed menu items in lxpanel menu & in gnome-panel

    when i start gnome-panel, the 'applications' drop down is empty, and 'system' no longer contains the 'administration' and 'preferences' items.
    in lxpanel, the menu only shows 'run' and 'logout'.
    i wanted to see if alacarte still showed things, so i ran alacarte from a terminal (which normally works)...
    [chris: ~]$ alacarte
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/alacarte", line 36, in <module>
    main()
    File "/usr/bin/alacarte", line 32, in main

    self.__loadMenus()
    File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/Alacarte/MenuEditor.py", line 60, in __loadMenus
    self.settings.dom = xml.dom.minidom.parse(self.settings.path)
    File "/usr/lib/python2.6/xml/dom/minidom.py", line 1918, in parse
    return expatbuilder.parse(file)
    File "/usr/lib/python2.6/xml/dom/expatbuilder.py", line 924, in parse
    result = builder.parseFile(fp)
    File "/usr/lib/python2.6/xml/dom/expatbuilder.py", line 211, in parseFile
    parser.Parse("", True)
    xml.parsers.expat.ExpatError: no element found: line 1, column 0
    naturally, starting alacarte by right clicking on gnome-menu -> edit menus also does nothing.
    i looked at /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/Alacarte/MainWindow.py with cat, and there is nothing super-obviously wrong with the script.
    also:
    [chris: ~]$ ls /usr/share/applications
    abiword.desktop
    alacarte.desktop
    aldm-gui.desktop
    assistant.desktop
    at-properties.desktop
    avahi-discover.desktop
    banshee-1-audiocd.desktop
    banshee-1.desktop
    banshee-1-media-player.desktop
    baobab.desktop
    *and so on*
    so those didn't vanish.
    any ideas?

    so i saw this error message....
    ** (gnome-panel:4408): WARNING **: Error loading menu layout from "/home/chris/.config/menus/settings.menu": Error on line 1 char 1: Document was empty or contained only whitespace
    the file was empty. and what do we do with broken config files in ~? why, we hide them, of course!
    [chris: ~/.config/menus]$ mv settings.menu settings.menubackup
    now gnome-panel works, but alacarte (menu editor) and lxpanel's menu is still busted.
    now that i am getting somewhere, im gonna keep posting as i trace this down so others that may come across this same issue can benefit.
    edit: renamed ~/.config/menus/lxde-applications.menu to .menubackup and restarted lxpanel, it works now.
    edit2:
    alacarte is giving me this...
    IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/home/chris/.config/menus/applications.menu'
    and sure enough, pcmanfm told me that the file belonged to root.
    sudo pcmanfm, navigated to that file, right click -> properties -> permissions -> changed owner to chris and group to users.
    alacarte works now, too.
    i think im going to go through and recursively make everything in each ~ folder belong to the username it should just in case permissions got jumbled somewhere/anywhere else.
    just so i know: did this happen to anyone else that updated within the last 24 hours or so?
    (so i can learn if it was something *I* did, or if it was something that came with the *update*)

  • New Maverick update, nothing is working

    I recently updated my computer from Lion to Maverick and after that update, many of my apps will not open (including the App store) and many of the programs that I run will crash. The apps will blink and pretend like its opening, but it wont open. I don't know exactly what to do in this case. Has anyone occured this problem? What should I do?

    If Eric's "reinstall over the top of your current install" doesn't fix your problems and you can't or don't want to debug what exactly is giving you problems.  Then your next best option is a clean install.  I've looked and there isn't a user tip for this but I think there should be (hint to those with enough points to write one).  I have fixed serveral Mac's this way.  It involves several hours of work but is very effective in giving you back the mac you love.
    Basic steps
    1) Make a clone of your current system (I like carbon copy cloner but there are others)
    2) Boot from a mavericks usb or from a mavericks recovery partition, erase Macintosh HD and then reinstall
    3) Sign in with your cloud and let the mac finish setting itself up, MIGRATE NOTHING
    4) Now copy the contents of your Document, Music, Movies, Pictures, Downloads from the clone to the respective locations on your fresh install
    5) Reinstall your applications (only what you really need)
    What you now have is a factory fresh installation of Mavericks, newly installed applications, and all or least most of your data. This will cause you to redownload your mailbox from the servers which, depending on how many emails you have, could take time.  If you have locally stored mail you won't see it until you find those mailboxes on the clone and import them.  Customizations to your dock, input devices and such will need to be setup again....I did say it was several hours of work .  The cloud has made this much much easier than it once was.
    Good luck.
