[SOLVED] urxvt missing window decorations, always on top

Anyone know what might cause this problem? Occasionally, urxvt will open without a titlebar, it's immovable and always on top of other windows. Restarting X will typically fix the problem. I think the problem started after installing lilyterm, which also had the problem. Lilyterm has since been removed.

Thanks.
I've actually since reboot, so I can't actually confirm that this works, but I'll put a [SOLVED] up there until it happens again.

  • Inspector and Library Window are always on top in Interface Builder

    Hi,
Inspector and Library Window are always on top in Interface Builder. I use a small 13" macbook screen most of the time and I don't have a lot of room. Just wondering if I can disable this so I can have my work area hover over the library and inspector when I'm not using them.
    Thanks

I still have not been able to figure this out. The best I could do is resize each of these windows to really small and maximize them when using them. But they're still always on top and this is really annoying.

  • [SOLVED] Fresh Install - LXDE - Missing Window Decorations

    Hi folks,
I just did a fresh install on my netbook (Asus 1000h) which went flawless as allways. I did install Xorg, the relevant intel drivers, some small stuff like screen and the like and then went on to install LXDE as the desktop environment + the murrine gtk engine and some murrine themes. Everything is working, the murrine theme etc, except one thing: The window decorations are missing completely.
This is the first time sth. like that happened to me after a fresh install and I'm not really sure what could be missing and 3 hours after trying to delete my ~/.config ~./local folders (I'm using a backup of my ~ - I've checked permissions etc.) I'm ranning out of ideas. I'd be glad for any pointers as to how to debug this or what could possibly cause this.
    Thanks in advance.

LXDE does not provide a window manager (and window decorator). They just strongly advise to use OpenBox. On ArchLinux, the group of packages "lxde" doesn't install OpenBox, so you have to install it by yourself, or install another WM. Then, you will need to configure the way you launch X so OpenBox is used.
You may refer to http://lxde.org/lxde .

  • [SOLVED] GTK2/QT window decorations broken on maximize in GNOME 3.12.2

When maximizing non-GTK3 (GTK2/QT4) applications in GNOME 3.12.2, the window decorations are not properly displayed. This happens regardless when maximizing via the shortcuts, dragging the window, or double-clicking the title bar. Here is one particularly bad example:

Hovering the mouse over the missing areas, or focusing a different window restores the decorations. Google or the GNOME Bugzilla didn't bring further clues, but I didn't have this problem in GNOME 3.10 (or FWIW, Cinnamon 2.2).

I'm having a smiliar problem in Flubox with qt4 applications, however not only related to fullscreen.
Even qtconfig-qt4 is broken in its appearance. nVIDIA gfx card here and everything up to date.
Downgrading qt4 package doesn't seem to help
Virtualbox is also broken in its GUI, gives console messages like:
Qt WARNING: X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
    Major opcode: 62 (X_CopyArea)
    Resource id: 0x0
EDIT: No need saying but No I haven't changed any qt/gtk/whatever configuration in between.

  • Lxqt + kwin5 = missing window decoration

    hi there,
coming from compiz standalone i just wanted to try out lxqt with kwin5 as window manager. I'd like to have an actively developed DE with some effects and try to keep it as lightweight as possible.
Installation was straight forward. I grabbed kwin-git from AUR and compiled it with '-DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr \'. Seems to me the binary I should use would be '/usr/bin/kwin_x11'?
'/usr/bin/kwin_x11 --replace' actually leaves me with some fancy kwin-effects (all of which I have no idea where to configure them) but no window decorations. Terminal output states oxygen theme could not have been found.
Various threads throughout the internet suggest to paste 'export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/usr/etc/xdg:/etc/xdg' into .bashrc which doesn't seem to do anything?! I got no idea where to go from here and would really appreciate your help
    thank you very much.

Wow. Thank you. Who could have known you need to install oxygen seperately?
But to be honest I would rather not go with oxygen. I would prefer some simple design like 'breeze': http://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/
Does anyone know what's the deal with kdecoration2? If I understand correctly it will actually be built into kwin? Is there a chance to test it out right now? Seems to be more ressource-friendly also?!
As configuring KWin's settings is concerned: My LXQT-menu won't show 'KDE Settings' - although I installed 'systemsettings'. I also cannot manage to find the corresponding binary
thanks again. If somebody could help me out further, I would really appreciate it

  • I just installed the lastest update of Firefox and now the Firefox window is always on top of all other windows - what a pain! How can I fix this?

I looked at all of the options available to me and did not see where there is a link or anything saying "always on top." Is there such a thing somewhere and if so, where?

Well hells bells - I went to watch TV and came back and all is good. Is it magic? :) (Some days I just plain don't understand anything - I swear!)

  • [SOLVED] [Compiz] Gtk-Window-Decorator

Hi guys, after spending the better part of one of my few free days configuring various apps and so on in compiz [I made a fresh arch install]. I finally got to setting my GTK theme away from the ugly defaults. I've installed the Orta theme for now at least, I'll probably change it once a week. The GTK theme sets perfectly fine, I used the gnome-tweak-tool for that, but the decorations(title bar) do not change, they remain the same default theme that gtk-window-decorator has. I have done extensive googling and have not found a solution yet, anyone have a fix?
Last edited by Multimoon (2013-02-17 14:23:36)

The old gtk-window-decorator (I'm assuming you installed the old stable version of compiz 0.8.x from the community repo) still requires certain gconf keys to be set.
If you find setting the GTK theme (using gnome-tweak-tool) and the window decorations (using either gconf-editor or gconftool-2) independently somewhat annoying, you might want to try compiz-devel from the AUR. It's the same version of compiz used in Ubuntu 12.10 and it's stable (at least as far as I've tested, mentioning because the "-devel" suffix might make you think otherwise). The 0.9.x versions of compiz use gsettings instead of gconf, which means that both the GTK theme and the window decorations can be set/changed using gnome-tweak-tool (or dconf-editor or the gsettings utility).
Also, some themes (the Gnome Cupertino theme for example, as well as Ubuntu's light themes) use some form of padding, shadows that the vanilla metacity (from Extra) does not allow, that might also cause gtk-window-decorator to fall back to its default theme. You can actually check whether the theme will be displayed or not in advance using the "metacity-theme-viewer Name_of_theme" command.
I hope that helps, good luck!

Try setting the Qt graphics system to "Raster" (system settings->desktop effects->advanced->Qt graphics system).

  • [Solved] LXDE missing window borders (or decoratioins, widget?)

    Hello,
The LXDE runs fine on my newly built arch for a couple of days, and then I must have done something (e.g. upgraded or uninstalled some packages) and now I can still log into LXDE by using slim login manager or startx command, but none of the applications will have the window borders and I am not able to move the application window around or minimize/resize the window.

    Thanks. The problem is solved.
Both openbox and lxsession were installed. The only thing missing was the missing libsvg library. Here is the relevant entries in /var/log/pacman.log (when I installed the libsvg package just now)
    # egrep -ri svg /var/log/pacman.log
    [2013-09-02 14:52] [PACMAN] Running 'pacman --color auto -S extra/librsvg'
    [2013-09-02 14:52] [PACMAN] installed librsvg (1:2.37.0-1)
so somehow it wasn't needed on a working lxde since 08/28 when the system was installed, and right after 3.10.10 kernel upgrade(Sat., 8/31), it is required to have the windows manager working properly. 3.10.10 linux kernel change log from https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel … og-3.10.10 did not return anything relevant.
Anyway thanks for the input and I'm glad that the problem was solved quickly.

  • Mac File Site window always on top

I am using Dreamweaver 8.0, but have seen this exact same
issue on a Windows CS3 install and a Mac CS3 install.
I like to have the Files Window detached from the right side,
and expanded so I can see the Remote Site and Local Files lists
side by side. When I open an html file, I expect the html file to
open on top of the file list window. It works this way on some
installs, but not on others, very annoying. In the problem
installs, I must manually move the file (site) window way down to
the right to expose the html file I want to work on. Then when I
want open another html file, I have to drag it file window back up,
to see my file list, double click on the file, and then move the
file list back out of the way.
In other words, in the problem setups, the File Window is
"always on top", so it must be a preference or setting, but I
    cannot figure out.
Please help me fix this annoying problem.
    mark

I'm having the exact same problem in DW CS5 now. Did you find a solution? Hitting fn+F8 isn't going to work on my iMac extended keyboard. F8 is the iTunes play pause button. Besides, having to command-tab to an app THEN hit fn+F8 just isn't going to work obviously.
I can't believe in 2010 this is broken.
Please do let me know if you found a way around it. I tried all the different layout prefabs in CS5, and without exception they all do it.

  • Firefox windows, always on top ?

Since my upgrade to Leopard my browser windows are always on top, even when I open the dashboard widgets. So I can't see half of them.
The window will be grey [inactive] but refuses to disappear to the background and make room for my desktop or whatever window I want to see. Only minimize will make it disappear. Firefox has been updated to the latest version, so that is not the problem.
    Anybody ?

I've been having this problem for the last few days and it's driving me insane. I read that if you disable the 'show downloads window' in the preferences, the problem seems to go away. This is not the case for me. I have restarted, etc. but the dang thing keeps doing it and I can't figure out the trigger.
Any other ideas? I'm seriously considering switching to the 3 Beta, but I don't want to lose the few add-ons I use.
    Thanks!

  • Always on Top Frame

HI, I have search a lot about Always on Top Frame, but couldn't found the solution of my problem.
My application has a PropertyWindow, the problem is, I want my PropertyWindow always on Top. Please suggest me which container should I use, because If I use JFrame as a PropertyWindow, another frame is created and windows toolbar have two windows.
If I use JPanel, I dont found the functionalities like WindowClosing, Settitle etc etc.
Please help me to get rid of this annoying problem. I want exactly something like JBuilder or Photoshop functionality where property windows are always on top and also seperate with the application.

But I got this error while using 1.5

    Everything works fine in 1.4
    Please Help
    Thanks

  • Set Always on Top Stage Javafx

How to set always on top stage javafx?
    Help Me.
    Thanks.

I actually found a "way around" this situation. I use transparency and a popup with a change listener to the focused property and then my window is "always on top". The only problem it's kinda like a hack and generates an exception. Here's the code:

  • Snow Leapord - Where has the "Always on Top" feature gone?

I like to have my ichat windows stay always on top, but after upgrading to the new snow leapord, I have no clue where this feature has gone. Any help?

Did you have Chax installed in Leopard.

  • [SOLVED] Buttons are missing in the titlebar with gtk-window-decorator

    Hi, everyone.
Recently, I'd tried compiz as WM with gnome 3 in fallback mode. All work quiet good, but there is one thing, that slightly discourages me. I use gtk-window-decorator for frames and titlebar and the results are strange. Title bar is drawn with squared left and rounded right corners. Moreover, no buttons are shown on it. "Menu" and "Minimize" buttons are here, but invisible (they are working and corresponding tooltips are shown when I hover mouse over their position); "Maximize" and "Close" buttons are absent. All this buttons are turned on in metacity properties.
When I turn off metacity theme support for gtk-window-decorator, all buttons are here, but decorator in this mode is quiet dumb...
So, have you any suggestions on how to get those buttons back?

I'm having this problem under Ubuntu, but not with my Compiz (also 0.9.4) setup with GNOME 3 on Arch. I switched to Emerald on my Ubuntu install as a temporary workaround.
Thinking about it, I think I still had the gnome-desktop2 package installed when I built compiz-core, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Optional GNOME support is omitted in compiz-core if you upgraded to GNOME 3, because gnome-window-settings-2.0 (from the GNOME 2 gnome-control-center package I think) and gnome-desktop-2.0 are absent.
