[Solved] Urxvt Proggy Misc font setting.

Hi there,
I wanted to use the Proggy font in my Urxvt, after installing the proggy fonts, and adding them to the fonts I have them available, here they are listed in fc-list.

So there are TTF and misc versions, I really want to try a proggy misc font, I tried to put the name in my resources file by adding this line.
URxvt*font: ProggySquare
It won't work, TTF versions work fine by prefixing xft: to this name.
urxvt: unable to load base fontset, please specify a valid one using -fn, aborting.
What am I doing wrong ?

urxvt -fn -*-proggysquare-medium-r-*-*-24-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
seems to work.

    What I've read, there should be /usr/share/fonts/local/* too in that list.
    I run my window manager, dwm with startx and ~/.xinitrc has these lines before dwm:
    xset +fp /usr/share/fonts/local
    xset fp rehash
    I have also tried to include those with xorg.conf:
    $ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/local/"

    I'm using Ubuntu's patched versions of freetype, fontconfig and cairo if that has anything to do with my problem:

    Xft fonts work fine with urxvt, but bitmaps don't. What am I missing?

    There isn't a "tamsynu" family in the tamsyn-font package.  You're trying to use a font that doesn't exist on your machine.
    $ xlsfonts -fn "-*-tamsynu-*"

    The syntax for the resource is fine, but it is case-sensitive.  The class is 'URxvt', an instance would be 'urxvt'.
    This should be good for a first attempt at the proper size:
    urxvt.font: -misc-tamsyn-medium-r-normal--14-101-100-100-c-70-iso8859-1
    urxvt.boldFont: -misc-tamsyn-bold-r-normal--14-101-100-100-c-70-iso8859-1
    That's about equal to DejaVu Sans Mono at 8 points.
    If you have rebuilt your font cache, either by restarting X or running 'fc-cache -f', and you want to use Xft, then this is equivalent (Tamsyn does not use anti-aliasing):
    urxvt.font: xft:Tamsyn:style=Regular:size=10.1
    urxvt.boldFont: xft:Tamsyn:style=Bold:size=10.1

    Yesterday, I changed lxdm to slim,and then everything went well,except urxvt.Though I think this should have nothing to do with the urxvt's problem.
    urxvt only has a white background while my setting is 0000/0000/0000/cccc,even I attempted to comment all options relating to colors,but it doesn't work.until I remove the .Xresources file, urxvt has a black background.
    I also attempted to start from startx and other ways, but it didn't work.I have a transparent black interface before,and now it is dazzling white.how could i can resume it.

    To add to what sonoran posted above, you need to have xrdb load the settings in your ~/.Xresources.  When you use a DE, there are quite a few things that it might do for you depending on the existence (or absence) of a give configuration file. 
    I have no idea what things are specific to each DE, but I know that the Slim login manager is extremely simple and lightweight and does very little (if anything) automagically for you.  A good example of automagic coming from some of the display manager part of things is the locale settings.  In particular, they implement their own ways of handling setting your keyboard layout and language.  So going if you were to go from GDM to Slim, you would suddenly have the stuff in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d honored, whereas in GDM, you would either have to use gconf or use setxkbmap at some point.

    Quite suddenly (to me) urxvt has stopped showing á, é, í, ñ and the like. They worked yesterday, and they still work in console and xterm -- the latter uses a different font, but the former does not.
    The relevant section of .Xresources:
    URxvt.font: -*-terminus-medium-*-*-*-*-140-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1
    URxvt.boldFont: -*-terminus-bold-*-*-*-*-140-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1

  • SApScript- Custom Font setting ignored by the system default setting

    I have an issue related SapScript - Font Setting. Whatever Custom setting i am giving to the text written in the text-element of the Page window inside the form through paragraph or charater format e.g.
    Font Family: Times  Font Size - 12   Bold: - on . Is displaying as it is in the page window . But when I test the form for print layout through :- Utilities -> Printing Test.  All my given custom setting is override by the system default setting in the print preview of the form.
    Is there any idea or clue how to solve this isssue?
    I am using the SAP 4.7 EE IDES.

  • [solved] Cannot load Fira font in Xresources

    Hello,
    I wanted to try out Mozilla's new Fira font in Urxvt. The font is used when I start Urxvt with:
    urxvt -fn "xft:Fira Mono OT:size=9:antialias=true:hinting=true"
    However, if I put the same line in ~/.Xresources (and of course merge via xrdb), Fira is not used.
    Any explanation why it is not working in Xresources?

    I forgot that I was running Urxvt in daemon mode. That is, merging Xresources would not affect any new client unless I restart the daemon process itself.

  • Default Japanese font setting in Linux

    Hi,
    I'm using flashplayer in Debian/Ubuntu, and default Japanese font setting in flash is kind of crap...
      It seems that Kochi font should be installed.  Kochi (東風) font is very old and it is not used so much
    as 10 years ago Now Linux users use VLGothic or IPAGothic as Japanese font by default.
    My question is,
      - How users can change default font setting?
      - Where/who is the contact address for this issiue?

    One of our product suites is going to be published for the first time using WebHelp Pro as its primary output but with a CHM file as a backup in case the client's internet connection fails or isn't present.
    To cut a long story short we have setup a font set to use with our Webhelp Pro output that allows for both Windows and Apple Mac fonts. We have applied this to all our styles and are looking at other places where it can be used (e.g. skins). One of these is the Navigation Pane to be used in the CHM file. It seems like you can not use a font set when defining the font characteristics of the TOC and Index in the Advanced options of the Microsoft HTML Help single source layout.
    I know this is not really a problem as CHM files are only designed to be run on Windows PCs and the Windows fonts we are using as part of the font set are 99.9% percent likely to be installed. However I am more interested in how the fonts inside the navigation pane works. The fact that you can't specify a font set (i've checked this in RH8 and RHX5) would seem to indicate that the font setting is part of the compiled file, rendering a font set unnecessary in this instance. Either that or it is an oversight.

    I stand to be corrected on this. Perhaps Pete Lees will pop in to confirm or deny.
    I don't believe Font Sets are even necessary for .CHM files. As they are Windows only, I'm not sure Microsoft saw any need to provide for using them.

  • Font setting in HTML Conversion Settings not honoured by acrobat

    Hi,
    I have Helvetica LT Std font family minstalled on my PC.
    In Acrobat 9, when I go to Create PDF --> From Web page --> Settings --> Settings (File Type : HTML), I select Body text font as "Helvetica LT Std" and size as 14.
    Now when I try to print any html page (E.g. http://infolab.stanford.edu/~ullman/fcdb/oracle/or-proc.html) to pdf, everything is appearing in Tahoma (eeks!!).
    Why is no Acrobat taking the Body font text font setting that I had specified?
    Please help ....

    You might try the preferences in your browser (as I understand your question). Mine has selections for default fonts and a selection of overriding the HTML document fonts (at least as I read the preferences). For some reason, Tacoma has become the default for MS products from what I have seen. I can't find a font button in IE, but there may be one. As you might expect, IE is far from my first choice of browser.

    But I use "Method:S", it is printed by Gothic.
    Method:F use Device Type "JPSAPWIN".
    Othewise Method:S use Device Type "JPESCPAG".
    I doubt that SPAD's setting effect!
    But I can't understand.
    I want to set "Gothic" font when I use Method:S.
    Please tell me , how to customize.

    Select application EF-Purchase order
    Go to output type select NEU as your output
    Go to details tab and remove the multiple issuing tick.
    This will avoid priting of purchase order when you make changes in purchase order.
    Still, if you want you can then take print manually.

    Here is the feedback I sent Apple with the link provided by "Level 3 (630 points):
    As you have "allowed" iOS 7 users to be able to use their previous ringtones under the "classic" setting, PLEASE also "allow" iOS 7 users to be able to choose the "original" more sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing look of the previous iOS 6 and before.  This would greatly, if not entirely, eliminate negative feedback of the iOS 7 "Dinky-Dob" look.

  • I was rubbing my keys and screwed up my font setting. i don't know how to reset the font to original mozilla setting

    i was rubbing my laptop keys. i must have hit the right key sequence to change the font setting. i don't know how to reset the font. i was in mozilla at the time, so only it was affected. IE still uses the correct webpage fonts. IE has a reset on their browser, does firefox?

    Have you tried closing Firefox and visiting the site again without restoring your session? This will bypass any temporary changes.
    If the problem is the font size, you can reset the zoom level:
    View menu > Zoom > Reset
    If you have the orange Firefox button, tap the Alt key or press F10 to display the classic menu bar where you will find the View menu.
    If that doesn't help, can you describe what's different in more detail?

  • HT203175 My ITunes software on my Dell computer is not displaying the menu items or the windows content of my music.  The menus are active, but you cannot see the choices.  I suspect a missing font set.  Any suggestions before I trash the whole environmen

    Loading the last two versions of the ITunes software to my Dell computer has produced unacceptable results.  None of the pull down menus are showing the menu choices and none of the content on my IPod Touch shows up in the appropriate window.  As a result, I have an interface with no functionality.  It does still sync my Touch but that is all.  I assume a missing font set.  Any suggestions on how to correct these issues.
    I also now get a message that ITunes cannot play back anything on my computer and a request to reinstall the software - which I have done multiple times both the original and the upgrade.

    I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.

    Is there another font renderer out there? I tried freetype the default and that gives me blurry edges. Infinality is not better in my opinion. Same blurry edges too many configurations. Are there any other renderers out there?

    I tried every conf.d symlink in the /etc/fonts/infinality/styles.conf.avail folder. I just can't get the fonts to be sharp with nice uniform smoothness. They look garbled.
    I just tried the ubuntu freetype and it looks worse.
