[Solved]Uzbl in [] mode

I started up uzbl-tabbed and the mode that it was in was []. Neither Cmd nor Ins. None of the commands worked. The only way i could kill it was by killing the uzbl-core process or by using the WM kill (Mod1+Shift+q)
On the next startup, it used to open my home page again in another tab, and every time the tabs kept on increasing.
I finally solved the problem by deleting the ~/.cache/uzbl folder.
My question is: How did this happen? Was it a keypress  or a series of keypresses? If so, that should be a bug. Just want to verify if someone else has seen this before filing a bug report.
EDIT: I think I jumped the gun, I just found the bug report here

D'oh !!!
I just realized that
grub-install /dev/sda
solved everything... Sorry for the noise

  • [SOLVED] Uzbl compared side by side with Firefox

    Hi I'm new to the forum and to Uzbl web browser.
    I compared side by side Firefox and Uzbl, and I've a problem: sometimes the same page looks bad in Uzbl, that's because text often overlaps or overruns other parts of the page.
    I noticed that Uzbl uses different fonts, and it seems to ignore that I installed ttf-liberation fonts...
    Moreover fonts seems a little bit more blurred than firefox.
    I really like this browser... is there a way to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

    I am a web developer by trade and the way that browsers render is the bane of my existence. I don't know uzbl but see if it has the ability for user mods of the web page look a number of modern browsers do. If you look around there may also be a plugin for it for that browser. Browsers have default style sheets and if they don't allow the alteration you might be stuck, they pick the default fonts then you have the other problem in that web developers pick fonts normally by a css attribute called a font-family in that they put a list that the browser checks for fonts that it supports or has available. If the browser one doesn't support that font it goes down the developers list until one or none is found, if it finds one it uses it, if not it uses it's own default font. The other thing is maybe the developer didn't include any Linux friendly fonts. Liberation might no be in the list or the browser might not support the ones that are there. The point is that you may have to look around but accept you may not find a perfect solution. Web developers have been fighting that one from the beginning.
    Hope that helps at least ti understand what's going on.

  • [Solved] ATL1E: 1000BaseT mode

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to get gigabit ethernet running on my EEE. The Attansic L1e is supposed to support it, and I know my router (Trendnet TEW-633GR) is not the problem as it works fine for my desktop. Autonegotiation results in 100mbit/s. I'm using the ATL1E driver included in the 2.6.30 kernel.
    ethtool reports that this mode is not available, so I can't force it:
    malstrond ~ $ sudo ethtool eth0
    Settings for eth0:
    Supported ports: [ TP ]
    Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
    100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
    Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
    Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
    100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
    Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
    Speed: 100Mb/s
    Duplex: Full
    Port: Twisted Pair
    PHYAD: 0
    Transceiver: internal
    Auto-negotiation: on
    Supports Wake-on: pg
    Wake-on: d
    Current message level: 0x00000000 (0)
    Link detected: yes
    mii-tool agrees:
    malstrond ~ $ sudo mii-tool -v eth0
    eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD flow-control, link ok
    product info: vendor 00:13:74, model 1 rev 9
    basic mode: autonegotiation enabled
    basic status: autonegotiation complete, link ok
    capabilities: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
    advertising: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD flow-control
    link partner: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD flow-control
    The last line would suggest that the driver isn't able to recognize my router advertising gigabit ethernet. Might it be possible that my router is at fault and somehow doesn't advertise correctly, in a way the driver doesn't understand?
    The NIC:
    malstrond ~ $ sudo lspci -vs 03:00.0
    03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Attansic Technology Corp. L1e Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev b0)
    Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 8324

    Capabilities: [180] Device Serial Number ff-8c-24-00-8d-c5-67-ff

    Any ideas on a solution or where I could continue my research? Google doesn't really help as "Gigabit" is a part of the adapters name and "1000BaseT" seems to be a rarely used term.
    Update: I think my NIC just doesn't have this feature. Marking as solved.

    Altough the same driver is still in use, the chipset is identified as a different one and not all versions the new name applies to are capable of gigabit ethernet. I'm beginning to think that the EEE 1000H just doesn't have a controller with this capability and it was just incorrectly identified.

  • [SOLVED]VirtualBox Bridged mode not working

    For some reason I am unable to start a virtual machine in host-only or bridged mode.  I can do NAT mode but that doesn't really suit what I want to do very well.  Here is the message I get when trying bridged mode.
    Failed to start the virtual machine Windows XP.
    Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-wlan0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    One of the kernel modules was not successfully loaded. Make sure that no kernel modules from an older verison of VirtualBox exist. Then try to recompile and reload the kernel modules by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root
    (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    I can't run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv because it doesn't exist.  I installed Vbox via Pacman and I'm embarassed to admit I don't really know where it is.  I just launch it by right clicking on my desktop (using fluxbox).
    Any ideas on where to go next?

  • [SOLVED] Disabling N mode: possible? (iwl4965)

    Hey guys, I have an Intel 4965 802.11abgn wireless card.
    I have been getting download speeds significantly lower than what I expect and what I get with Windows Vista on the same machine.
    For example, with the easylist.com Arch mirror I usually get about around 1mbps on other computers. With this one, I get between 60-200kbps.
    This happened in Vista as well, but I fixed the problem by disabling N mode in a device manager. I guess our router doesn't support it. So, my question is this: is there a way for me to disable N mode under Linux? It'd be great to get my regular download speeds back. Thanks!

    I did it!
    $ modprobe -r iwlagn
    $ modprobe iwlagn 11n_disable=1
    Now I get up to nearly 2mbps from easynews, and download speeds everywhere else are soaring too. Thanks a million for the help, everyone!

  • [SOLVED] uzbl-browser and dmenu-vertical

    I recently installed the uzbl-browser, which is just great.  It uses dmenu for bookmarks, and it has been suggested (I can dredge up posts if necessary) that the "patched" version dmenu-vertical will improve the experience by listing the bookmarks vertically (horizontally you can see the first three or so, and then end up scrolling).  Looking in the AUR there are two packages: dmenu-vertical and dmenu-vertical-xft.  I chose the version with XFT support.
    When I tried to install it, pacman complained that it conflicted with dmenu, which was already installed.  I uninstalled dmenu, which required uninstalling uzbl-browser, installed dmenu-vertical-xft, and then attempted to install uzbl-browser.  When I answered "no" to that installation's suggestion that I replace dmenu-vertical-xft with dmenu, the install aborted.
    So I have reverted to uzbl-browser with vanilla dmenu, but I would like to get it working with the vertical patch.  Has anybody done this, and if so how?
    Thanks - Hy

  • [SOLVED] Uzbl weird characters

    When viewing some pages in uzbl, such as Youtube, I am getting a cryptic character instead of what is supposed to be there. IIRC it means that the character it is trying to load doesn't exist in the current character map, correct? How can I fix this? (Sorry if there is already a thread about this. I searched around and didn't find anything). I would also like to note that I don't have this problem in chromium or any other application.
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED] Uzbl help

    Hello!
    I just recently installed uzbl from http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25972 and works really great! Haven't gone through each function yet though. My problem is I was assuming that the default command to open a new uzbl window is :new_window http://google.com since I found the line below in the default config:
    set new_window = sh 'uzbl-browser -u $8'
    I've also tried:
    bind t _ = sh 'uzbl --uri %s'
    Not working too. Although when I enter the command:
    sh "uzbl-browser -u htt://google.com"
    It works just fine.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks!

    That, plus the fact that Uzbl doesn't have real "tab"s; but any number of instances you want running at the same time.
    There's plenty ways to simulate tabbed browsing though.
    Best to just go through the documentation.
    Oh, currently using the Tabbed layout of the wm i am using. What I did now is just made a keybind from xmonad to just spawn uzbl-browser. Not sure if it's the best way though I guess it's faster for me. If there are any other solutions, do tell. Thanks again!

  • [Solved]Uzbl-browser + tabbing = how?

    Any tutorial to get Uzbl-browser working with tabbing navigation?
    The uzbl_tabbed.py in official site doesn't work. And i suppose tabbed is the real solution but i just can't make it work.

    Probably stupid question, but did you call
    uzbl-tabbed
    instead of
    uzbl-browser
    to start it?
    I did it, but it makes no sense because pacman just installed uzbl-core and uzbl-browser.
    About uzbl_tabbed.py, i can't find that file, the links in official wiki (http://www.uzbl.org/wiki/uzbl_tabbed) are broken.
    I'm using dwm, and tabbed already installed but i don't know where to start.

  • [SOLVED] systemd: laptop-mode-tools fails to start (No such file ...)

    Hi,
    I recently moved to systemd. I noticed that 'laptop-mode-tools' does not start:
    Loaded: error (Reason: No such file or directory)
    Active: inactive (dead)
    Also laptop-mode itself does not run (but exits successfully), maybe this has something to do with it:
    laptop-mode.service - Laptop Mode Tools
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/laptop-mode.service; enabled)
    Active: active (exited) since Sat, 2012-11-10 10:44:13 CET; 2min 17s ago
    Process: 1020 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/laptop_mode init auto (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
    CGroup: name=systemd:/system/laptop-mode.service
    I cannot find anything in journal that would help resolve this issue. Has someone else come across this problem? Where should I look to fix this issue?
    Sidenote: When I boot up, there show up some errors about 'eth0' and 'wlan0' "No such file or directory", but I cannot find them in the journal so I don't know them exactly.

    When I upgraded, pacman said the following
    [2012-11-04 09:41] The systemd service name has changed from \laptop-mode-tools" to "laptop-mode"
    [2012-11-04 09:41] The change requires the old symlink to be manually removed:
    [2012-11-04 09:41] rm /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/laptop-mode-tools.service
    [2012-11-04 09:41] The laptop-mode.service can be enabled using:
    [2012-11-04 09:41] systemctl enable laptop-mode
    [2012-11-04 09:41] upgraded laptop-mode-tools (1.61-2 -> 1.62-2)

  • [SOLVED] Emacs-Haskell-Mode Garbage on First Load

    I installed emacs-haskell-mode from pacman and I have this in my .emacs file:
    (load-library "haskell-site-file")
    haskell-site-file.el autoloads haskell-mode when I open a haskell file.  All works fine, but the very first time I open a haskell file (and load haskell-mode), this garbage gets spit out in my minibuffer:
    #[nil "\300C\207"
    [t]
    2]
    I've only been on emacs for a couple of months now and I've never seen that output before.  Haskell mode works fine as far as I can tell once it's loaded so the garbage output isn't causing any problems, but I'm just curious as to what it is and why it's there.
    Last edited by choogi (2010-07-14 21:02:01)

    If you're new to emacs, I don't expect you'd understand much lisp yet, but here is the answer:
    When including haskell-mode the following is run.
    (eval-when-compile
    ;; Emacs 21 defines `values' as a (run-time) alias for list.
    ;; Don't maerge this with the pervious clause.
    (if (string-match "values"
    (pp (byte-compile (lambda () (values t)))))
    (defsubst values (&rest values)
    values)))
    See the line starting with 'pp'.   That basically says to pretty-print the value of the byte-compile.  It pretty prints to the echo area (what you refer to as the minibuffer).  If you eval the byte-compile you get the same value you're seeing.
    This is a very long way to say that it's probably a bug.

  • [Solved] zsh (vi-mode) and RPS1

    I'm a zsh (oh-my-zsh) user and vi-mode plugin works: https://github.com/robbyrussell/oh-my-z … plugin.zsh
    So I want to improve it:
    function zle-line-init zle-keymap-select {
    zle reset-prompt
    # change cursor color to reflect vicmd mode from http://andreasbwagner.tumblr.com/post/804629866/zsh-cursor-color-vi-mode
    zle-keymap-select () {
    if [ $TERM = "screen" ]; then
    if [ $KEYMAP = vicmd ]; then
    echo -ne '\033P\033]12;#FF3333\007\033\\'
    else
    echo -ne '\033P\033]12;#99FF33\007\033\\'
    fi
    elif [ $TERM != "linux" ]; then
    if [ $KEYMAP = vicmd ]; then
    echo -ne "\033]12;#FF3333\007"
    else
    echo -ne "\033]12;#99FF33\007"
    fi
    fi
    }; zle -N zle-keymap-select
    zle-line-init () {
    zle -K viins
    if [ $TERM = "screen" ]; then
    echo -ne '\033P\033]12;#99FF33\007\033\\'
    elif [ $TERM != "linux" ]; then
    echo -ne "\033]12;#99FF33\007"
    fi
    }; zle -N zle-line-init
    bindkey -v
    # if mode indicator wasn't setup by theme, define default
    if [[ "$MODE_INDICATOR" == "" ]]; then
    MODE_INDICATOR="%{$fg_bold[red]%}<%{$fg[red]%}<<%{$reset_color%}"
    fi
    function vi_mode_prompt_info() {
    echo "${${KEYMAP/vicmd/$MODE_INDICATOR}/(main|viins)/}"
    # define right prompt, if it wasn't defined by a theme
    if [[ "$RPS1" == "" && "$RPROMPT" == "" ]]; then
    RPS1='$(vi_mode_prompt_info)'
    fi
    My theme did not defined the right prompt, so I'm expecting that "<<<" as RPS1 in vicmd mode, but for some odd reason it did not appeared, only the cursor color changed as expected. What is wrong with it?
    Last edited by irtigor (2011-06-17 21:35:59)

    You basically define function zle-line-init and zle-keymap-select to reset the prompt (your first 3 lines) and then you overwrite them to change the cursor colors so 'zle reset-prompt' is never called.

  • Master Data loading got failed: error "Update mode R is not supported by th

    Hello Experts,
    I use to load master data for 0Customer_Attr though daily process chain, it was running successfully.
    For last 2 days master data loading for 0Customer_Attr got failed and it gives following error message:
    "Update mode R is not supported by the extraction API"
    Can anyone tell me what is that error for? how to resolve this issue?
    Regards,
    Nirav

    Hi
    Update mode R error will come in the below case
    You are running a delta (for master data) which afils due to some error. to resolve that error, you make the load red and try to repeat the load.
    This time the load will fail with update mode R.
    As repeat delta is not supported.
    So, now, the only thing you can do is to reinit the delta(as told in above posts) and then you can proceed. The earlier problem has nothing to do with update mode R.
    example your fiorst delta failed with replication issue.
    only replicating and repeaing will not solve the update mode R.
    you will have to do both replication of the data source and re-int for the update mode R.
    One more thing I would like to add is.
    If the the delat which failed with error the first time(not update mode R), then
    you have to do init with data transfer
    if it failed without picking any records,
    then do init without data transfer.
    Hope this helps
    Regards
    Shilpa
