  • [SOLVED]VirtualBox Bridged mode not working

    For some reason I am unable to start a virtual machine in host-only or bridged mode.  I can do NAT mode but that doesn't really suit what I want to do very well.  Here is the message I get when trying bridged mode.
    Failed to start the virtual machine Windows XP.
    Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-wlan0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    One of the kernel modules was not successfully loaded. Make sure that no kernel modules from an older verison of VirtualBox exist. Then try to recompile and reload the kernel modules by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root
    (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    I can't run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv because it doesn't exist.  I installed Vbox via Pacman and I'm embarassed to admit I don't really know where it is.  I just launch it by right clicking on my desktop (using fluxbox).
    Any ideas on where to go next?
    also here are my vbox logs

    for bridged you have to load vboxnetflt
    Thanks a bunch...
    sudo modprobe vboxnetflt
    did it.

  • (SOLVED) Virtualbox bridged network, windows host, arch guest

    I am trying to get my archlinux guest's network working again. It was working before I bridged the connection and changed the adaptor to the bridged one, but I want a bridged connection for certain reasons, so I want it working. This is the result I get when I use sudo dchcpcd eth0:
    dhcpcd: version 5.0.7 starting
    dhcpcd: eth0: rebinding lease of 10.0.2.15
    dhcpcd: eth0: broadcasting for a lease
    dhcpcd: eth0: offered 192.168.0.199 from 192.168.0.1
    dhcpcd: eth0: acknowledged 192.168.0.199 from 192.168.0.1
    dhcpcd: eth0: checking for 192.168.0.199
    dhcpcd: eth0: hardware address 00:le:8c:85:a6:4d claims 192.168.0.199
    dhcpcd: eth0: send_raw_packet: Bad file descriptor
    dhcpcd: eth0: rebinding lease of 10.0.2.15
    dhcocd: timed out
    I have no clue why it's not working, but I am sort of new to linux and virtual machines. Still, can anyone help me get the bridged connection working?
    EDIT: Nevermind, I fixed it.

    All I did was unbridge my windows network. You only select the bridged network from virtualbox, don't manually bridge your network!
    If you windows network is not bridged with your vm's host only network in the windows networking page, then I dunno what your problem is.

  • [solved] VirtualBox(Arch host, XP guest): Bridged Adapter

    It's fairly easy to enable it in VirtualBox. But whenever I start the xp, VirtualBox gives me:
    Failed to start the virtual machine XP.
    Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-eth0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    One of the kernel modules was not successfully loaded. Make sure that no kernel modules from an older version of VirtualBox exist. Then try to recompile and reload the kernel modules by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    My VirtualBox version is Version 3.1.4. And this is the first time I try it, so there should be no "older version" exists in my computer...
    (I am trying to use it to connet to the vpn server in my department, the default NAT connection won't do it, that's why I need the bridged adapter).
    I will really appreciate if anyone can help.

    Check that vboxnetflt is loaded if you have already put it in your modules line in rc.conf
    lsmod | grep vbox
    If not load it manually:
    insmod /lib/modules/2.6.32-ARCH/misc/vboxnetflt.ko
    You can put this in your /etc/rc.local for a more permanent solution.

  • How to solve ORA-12560:TNS:protocol adapter error?

    I'm trying to use sqlplus on Windows 2008 R2 which is installed on VirtualBox to access an Oracle 11gR2 database on Red Hat Linux.
    I'm sure that the database on Red Hat Linux is up and tnsnames.ora is a copy from another machine which is used by another application to connect to the same Oracle database.
    When I run sqlplus, I got the ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.
    sqlnet.ora
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)
    Both sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora are located in c:\app\administrator\product\11.2.0\client64\network\admin folder.
    The registry ORACL_HOME has c:\app\administrator\product\11.2.0\client64.
    echo %ORACLE_HOME% incommand window returns %ORACLE_HOME%
    echo %ORACL_SID% in command window returns %ORACLE_SID%
    If I set ORACLE_HOME to another folder, I will get the following error:
    Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus
    SP2-0667: Message file sp1<lang>.msb not found
    SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory
    So, I believe the ORACLE_HOME in registry has the correct value.
    I have also tried set ORACLE_SID to the service name listed in tnsnames.ora but sqlplus still returns the ORA-12560:TNS:protocol adapter error.
    For unknown reason, the value of ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID I set by using set command will not persist after I close the command window that I set the values.

    It make NO sense do to as above when attempting to connect to Oracle DB on *NIX
    which knows NOTHING about NTS Authentication.

    or just remove the line or whole file.

    ERROR:
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    This is a local connection (called an internal connect in the old days). The connection does not go via the Listener. It is a local IPC connection. And as you can see, you do not supply a database schema and password as credentials - the o/s user and environment need to provide the credentials.
    So I would not expect a TNS protocol adapter error, as this usually indicates a network driver related problem.
    For a local IPC connection to work, TWO_TASK must not be set, and ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME must be set (and valid). The local client driver needs to launch an Oracle server process (dedicated server process to service the client driver). It finds that executable in ORACLE_HOME/bin. Next it needs that server process to "attach" itself to the database's brains (the SGA). This shared memory area is identified via the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID variables.
    There also is a requirement that the dedicated server process created, has the o/s permissions to attach to the SGA - which means it  needs to be run as the same o/s user as the owner of the shared memory (in other words, the client should be running in the same o/s user as the database processes).
    Thus the need to have these variables set. And no need for using a Listener - it is not a factor.

  • Virtualbox bridged networking problem

    Hi out there.
    I'm trying to set up VirtualBox bridged networking as described in the wiki by "the arch way"
    Here are the relevant details of my config files:
    /etc/conf.d/bridges:
    bridge_br0="eth0"
    BRIDGE_INTERFACES=(br0)
    /etc/vbox/interfaces:
    vbox0 nofoo br0
    (Where nofoo is supposed to be the user running virtualbox)
    And finally...
    /etc/rc.conf:
    MODULES=(e1000e snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-hwdep snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd snd-hda-intel soundcore bridge vboxdrv vboxnet)
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="eth0 up"
    br0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(lo eth0 br0)
    So. I added the user to the vboxusers group.
    After a reboot, myifconfig says:

    My settings in VirtualBox itself are the following:

    Yeah, I have this same issue. I installed virtualbox-ose using pacman and also don't have /etc/rc.d/vboxnet. I've searched the entire machine and it is nowhere to be found. Did you solve it? Anyone got any ideas?

  • File adapter error after updating to SP19 (INBOUND_BINDING_ERROR)

    File adapter error after updating to SP19 (INBOUND_BINDING_ERROR)
    Hi all,
      im having some troubles after the installation of SP19 (from SP16 in NW04) with File Adapter (File->Idoc scenario).
    In message monitoring (Adapter Engine), I have several messages with status "System Error". The error text is :
    <i>Received XI System Error. ErrorCode: INBOUND_BINDING_ERROR
    ErrorText:   ErrorStack: Error in sender agreement for party '', service 'LEGACY_DEV', interface namespace 'http://XXXXX.com/XXXXXX', interface 'INTERFACE_OB' No sender agreement found for , , , , ,</i>
    Im sure that the Integration Directory settings have not been changed. So I tried the following, but the problem persists:
    - Deactivation/Activation of File Adapter channel
    - check that user XIISUSER is not locked
    - checked SXI_CACHE (it seems ok)
    - Many CPA full refresh
    - Dummy modifications of File Adapter channels (a dummy modification of the description)
    - Reboot J2EE
    I've seen that someone else had problems after upgrading to SP19. I'd really appreciate any suggestion of how to solve my issue.
    Thank you
    Manuel

  • Oracle 8i tns:protocol adapter error

    Hello,
         I am programmer and wanted to try and learn oracle
    database. I am trying to install Oracle 8i Releae 8.1.5
    developer edition (which I got with a book) on windows NT 4.0
    with service pack 6. But after doing a minimal install when and
    creating a database I am unable to access that database using
    SQL plus. Whenever I try to connect an error message is
    displayed saying:
         "ora12560TNS: protocol adapter error."
         I tried to install it on my friends machine on one
    friends computer it worked but on another's it didn't work. Same
    message appears on that friends machine also who is using
    windows 2000 professional.
         Could you please tell me what could be the problem.
    Because I am able to connect to database using mmc snap-in
    provided for database administration.
         Also during installation it displays a message about a
    single missing .tmp file in a sub-directory which is many levels
    deeper than the directory where oracle is being installed. File
    name I think is nmconf.tmp.
         I hope you can suggest me some way to solve this problem.
    Sukhwinder Singh

    Check if you have enough space and the required permissions to write to the temporary directory used by the installer during installation.
    We had a similar problem on a UNIX installation which was eventually traced to a non-writable temporary directory that caused the installation to silently fail, which effectively caused the TCP/IP protocol adapter not to be installed.

    Hi,
    Did you check whether the windows service for listener is up and running? if not please start it, by typing "services.msc" in run window and start the service. Then check whether you have listener.ora file in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin and also post listener.ora contents.

  • ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error while linking tables in Access

    One of my app dev is encountering an interesting error message while linking Oracle tables from Access. I am not able to able to reproduce this in my desktop or anywhere else. Details enclosed. Can you guys point me to a solution? Thanks in advance!
    ODBC: Oracle Client version 10.2.0.1
    Desktop : Win XP ; Access 2003
    =>Able to login to the Oracle database sucessfully using sqlplus.
    =>Able to create an ODBC datasource to Oracle database.("Test Connection" works fine)
    =>But encountering the TNS protocol adpater error while linking the table(Access->File->Get External Data-> Link tables).
    =>Not able to link any table in any schema in any Oracle database. Hence this is not a data centric issue.
    What did I do?
    => Uninstalled Oracle 8 client and installed Oracle 10 client. No luck. Encountering the same error.
    => Turned on the ODBC trace and reproduced the error. The log is enclosed:

    Thanks a lot for your quick reply.
    I've read all the posts mentioned (quite a few more) but I couldn't find any suggested solution to the "non-oracle10g"-problem other than using the global db name instead of the sid - which didn't help in our case:
    However, in a last desperate attempt to solve the problem on my own before launching another cry-for-help-post I did try running the configuration assistant using the correct password for the SYS user 8-} and - strange but true - it did work :-)
    Needless to say: I used the global db name of course, so I can't say what would have happened without it, but I trust your hint was a legitimate one.
    Anyway - I gues that error Message concerning a "non-oracle10g database" was slightly misleading in this case.... grrrr.
