[solved] virtualbox question

Hi,
How do I share my network connection with an emulated WinXP? I have a adsl connection (ppp0) and the wiki thing doesn't seem to be working...

In the email I received that notified me of a reply to my question, when I click on the link for either "This solved my question" or "This helped me", it takes me to Safari, but gives me the following:
Apple Support Communities
Unauthorized
It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake.
If I sign in to the Discussions, and go to Your Stuff and choose the question, I see the Legend, but there are no buttons for me to mark a reply as "This solved my question" or "This helped me".
Any idea why I can't do this? I'm running Mac OS 10.8.5, and Safari 6.0.5. Could there be something in my Safari settings that is blocking this?

There have also been intermittent problems with the forum software lately and this might be causing this problem.
Try going to your thread again and see if the symptoms change any,

Not sure why are you getting this kind of error (which is pointing to a URL with Jpg file) while creating a journal.
Could you please bounce your server once and try..
Please let us know if the error/warning stopping you to enter a journal in GL??
We don't think profile option is a show stopper here.... We assume that you have assigned Sets of Books, MO: Operating unit & HR USer Profile option at Responsibility level correctly....

Are you talking about the "Legend" panel at the right of the window?
Those text are just help texts explaining the reputation points. You can only award points, if you are the original poster of a question. You can't uncheck it. You'll need to post the question again.
You could also just add the comment that it was not actually answered.

Virtualbox question about what happsns "after" updating kernel. SOLVED

I had virtual box working (64bit) from puel/aur perfectly... then there was a kernel update and then when i went to bootup the virtual machine (the virtualbox gui worked fine), the VM screen went black and the entire computer/mouse froze solid, had to do a hard reboot..
was there or should I ask "is there" a command i should re-issue after the kernel updates? i'm thinking it has something to do with the virtualbox kernel module.. but i'm not sure..
i've read the info about virtualbox in the wiki... couldnt find much based on what i'm trying to ask in here..
any help/suggestions would be most appreciated..

When you installed aur/virtualbox_bin, the following post-install message was displayed:
Run "vbox_build_module" as root every time your kernel is upgraded, to compile the module for the new kernel version.
You can confirm this by checking your pacman log and/or by reading /var/lib/pacman/local/virtualbox_bin-<version>/install.

[SOLVED Noob question about web server permissions

Hi I have setup up succesfully my web server. Now I am having some permission's questions/problems.
First of all, I want the /home/httpd/home folder not to be show to the other machine users and only to root.
I have created a user www-data and I have conf the apache file.
This is my settings:
My server directory is: /home/httpd and the permissions I have set:

I have set .htaccess to some folders. I don't know If the permissions are safe or not. Can you help me?
I think that I have different permissions to files and different to the folders...

[SOLVED] Weird question: pacman -Syu nothing to do for quite a while

Hi,
Perhaps this an odd question but I feel like for the past 2-3 weeks on two different computers "pacman -Syu" returns "x up to date" for all repos and "nothing to do" as the result. Could nothing really be upgradeable for this long? Can anyone else confirm this or has something gotten goofed? Is there a way to check actual versions with what I have to make sure things really are working properly? Even if nothing was upgradeable I can't remember the last time I saw core, extra, or community actually download without doing "pacman -Syyu". They alway say up to date and I'm thinking this just can't be correct...
What might help for me to post? I haven't changed anything in pacman.conf or pacman.d/mirrorlist...

[Solved]Virtualbox kernel module not loaded

I update my system today and when I try to run Virtualbox...
WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module
available for the current kernel (3.6.11-1-ARCH) or it failed to
load. Please reinstall the kernel module virtualbox-host-modules or
if you don't use our stock kernel compile the modules with
sudo dkms autoinstall
You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.
I already had this trouble before and this was the fix
# modprobe vboxdrv
But it doesn't work anymore
Any ideas?

[SOLVED]Virtualbox installation, X, display drivers

Hi,
Installing arch in virtual box and I'm unsure of a few things which I'd like to understand. I've been running through the wiki on installing X but do not understand about the graphics drivers.
So, I understand the virtual box has its own virtual graphics card and that the drivers are in the virtualbox-archlinux-additions package. I've installed this, added the modules, daemons etc.
Is that all I have to do?
One confusion I had with this + x is there is no xorg.conf. I believe it uses an auto one from /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d?
One problem I am having is startx works (was missing xterm) however, it presents me with a black screen and 3 xterm windows which I cant resize.
I installed an arch VM a little while ago, I think I got confused and installed some generic graphics drivers and I remember the initial startx being blue with basic windows so I'm thinking something is up.
I'm trying to get it using the best drivers possible, as this is a VM for work so I will be using alot.
Wandering if anyone out there can help defuzz this.

hmm, didnt notice the steps on pacman after install, thats pretty cool. Unfortunatly I've lost those steps, but thinking they are the same as the wiki. Finally managed to solve my LXDE install issues and ran that, so it all seemed to work well. So I'm guessing the drivers must all be installed and X has figured itself out. great!

[SOLVED] VirtualBox 4 & USB Host

I'm moving from Virtualbox 3.x (binary PUEL edition with USB from AUR) to 4.x. My 3.x was fully working including USB host.
I've uninstalled Vbox 3.x and installed the following packages:
- virtualbox 4.0.0-2
- virtualbox-additions 4.0.0-1
- virtualbox-ext-oracle 4.0.0-2
Extension pack shows up in Virtualbox extension manager (USB host). I've also installed guest additions and enabled USB host under VM's configuration. However I'm unable to select any of my USB devices (everything is grayed out). Is there any additional step to go through in order to get access to USB devices.

PS: From my previous working 3.x installation I also have my user belonging to the vboxusers group and vboxdrv module loaded by rc.conf.

According to the wiki it is no longer required to mount usbfs by modifying /etc/fstab (although you need HAL to be running).. Again I had USB host working fine with VirtualBox 3 PUEL edition. I since moved to VirtualBox 4 (GPL) + extension pack for USB (PUEL) but can't get USB to work. I'm not sure the package virtualbox-sun can solve my problem.

[SOLVED] Virtualbox hangs the host computer

Hi all,
It's been some time since I experience this annoying bug :
Virtualbox completely hangs my computer whenever I click on the "configuration" for any virtual machine.
Even the magic sysreqs keys are not able to recover (they are enabled in /etc/sysctl.conf) , I'm obliged to hard reboot my machine
However, I can go into other menus in the GUI without problems. VMs work ok as well.
My host system :
3.7.8-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Feb 15 03:39:05 EET 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
virtualbox 4.2.6-1
virtualbox-host-modules 4.2.6-6
no proprietary extension pack.
(kernel was upgraded today and the computer rebooted, virtualbox-host-modules were updated as well)
Using KDE 4.10
Nvidia integrated graphics (xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.6-1)

Problem seems to be solved.
All I did was to click "remove all the warnings" in the Help menu, and remove some older VM files which might have been corrupt.

[Solved] VirtualBox Failed to open a session

Hi everyone,
I've installed virtualbox, qt and virtualbox-additions
I've also added the following to /etc/rc.conf
MODULES=(vboxdrv vboxguest vboxsf vboxvideo)
I've also added my username to vboxusers
When I start a session in virtualbox i get the following error message-------------
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine "Linux VM" ---- Linux VM is the name of the Virtual Machine
VT-x features locked or unavailable in MSR. (VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED).
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)

Interface: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb}
Any ideas why the VT-x features would be locked or unavailable?
I've tried 3 different iso images but every time I get the same error.

DSpider solved my problem. I had Enabled VT-x/AMD-V which caused the conflict.
Once I unchecked the box everything worked perfectly.

hcjl, I'm probably using it as a Guest. I actually don't know the difference between Host and Guest. I'm very new to virtualbox
