[Solved] VPN - PPTP + OpenVPN not working
Hi everyone,
I've got a problem with the configuration of my new VPN. Everytime I try to connect to my commercial VPN-Server (to get access to BBC, Hulu etc.), I get the error

What really kills me is, that both options (OpenVPN + PPTP) work under a parallel installed Windows Vista (PPTP) / and a Windows 7 virtual machine under virtualbox running as guest in my Arch system (installed OpenVPN). So I can eliminate any problems with my router and the server. I figured, that I might be missing some configuration options for my static IP-configuration, but even going back to DHCP doesn't take me any further. The problem remains.
I hope someone might have a clue for me. I'd really appreciate it.

Thx for the tip, but the problem remains.
In the meantime, I think, I made some progress with PPTP instead. I checked the wiki, configured pptp with pptpsetup and got it working, I guess. In some way. The only problem is, that I might be connected over ppp0, but all my traffic is still going the wrong way, because my (outside) IP is still the same (which I check with http://www.wieistmeineip.de/). I think, I'm missing something here, sorry, network stuff always gives me headaches and I don't see the obvious :

I have just upgraded to Lion and now my VPN connection does not work properly. It was working fine when I was using Leopard. The VPN is My Private Network and we use it to link to BBC iPlayer when abroad. It will actually connect to the VPN site and shows a UK IP address, but then when we try to load an iPlayer programme we get the message from the BBC that we are not in the country and, therefore, cannot access the site. Any suggestions?

We use cisco router 2911 as corporate gateway - there is Zone Based Firewall implemented - I upgraded IOS to last version (15.2(2)T1) - originaly version 15.1(4)M1 - to solve issue with Anyconnect connections (bug CSCtx38806) but I found that after upgrade the VPN users are not able to communicate with sources in other zones.

In the policy any connection is allowed (used inspection of icmp, tcp and udp) from INSIDE zone to VOICE or LAB zone
After VPN connection I am able to reach resources in INSIDE zone (which is the most important), but not in other zones. Before upgrade it worked.
Once I changed zone in Virtual-Template interface to VOICE, I was able to reach sources in VOICE zone but not in any other. I searched more and found the stateful firewall is not working for connections from VPN as ping is blocked by policy on returning way - it means by policy VOICE->INSIDE, once I allowed communication from "destination" zone to INSIDE zone - the connections started to work, but of cause it is not something I want to setup.
Does anybody has the same experiance?

PavelIt seems to me I should add one importatant note - if client is connected directly in INSIDE zone, he can reach resources in other zones without any issue - so the problem is only when the client is connected by VPN - not in ZBF policy setup.

WRT600N WRT310N PPTP will not work in some cases
Hello All,
This is more of a warning than a request for help. If you are using the WRT600N or the WRT310N and you need to use PPTP VPN connections, these are not the routers for you!
The PPTP support only work with MS PPTP Servers, it does not work with other VPN routers such as Nortel Contivity's and others.
Please read other threads in this forum, in most cases the wireless connectivity does not work properly, and the router is prone to freeze, requiring it to be hard booted often.

[SOLVED] DPMS screen off not working with xorg 1.16.0, gnome 3
After the update of xorg into 1.16.0-2, screen is not turned off by DPMS in GNOME.
I also tried an manual command:
$ xset dpms force off
but it's not working.
In other WM, this command is working.
With xorg 1.15.2 and gnome 3, there is not this problem.
When I entered the command, the screen turned off for a couple of seconds and turned back on.

I use ldap for authentication. During the setup of the ldapclient I copied the nsswitch.ldap to nsswitch.conf. But the line for "hosts:" was:
hosts: dns ldap
but in my dns ist no localhost entry. After I changed this line to:
hosts: files dns ldap
everything was ok. The statd is now running and I can start to migrate to archlinux ;-) -
RV082 - SRP527W - VPN behind NAT not working
Hello,
I've really strange behaviors with my routers. We managed to get things running but once a week, the VPN link is down.
The connection is not restart, both routers shows "connected" but are not, and we had to click on "disconnect" to get the link back.
That was before an update in our infrastructure. Now, both routers are behind routers, so both NAT.
Now, the connection works for some time, but once a week, the link disconnected but i'm unable to get it back ! NOTHING works.
Last time, i spent 2Hours to configure the link again, setting the same parameters almost 10 time, and suddenly by magic, the 11st time it worked again. I read many people have troubles with RVXXX firmware so i don't know what to think.
Anyway, my BIG concern now, is that the link is down again, and it has been 6hours since we can't got it back. I restarted the routers many times, i've made some changes in the configuration, but if it worked, why should i modify it ?????? Why is it not working anymore ?
The log for the RV082 is almost empty about the link. Here's a snippet :

Please help me to get things sorted. I just don't understand why nothing is written in the log about the SRP trying to make a connection. I also don't understand why suddenly the link is broken, and without changing anything, it can't get it back normally !!

Samir, i rebooted all the routers dozens of time when that happened, and it doesn't changed anything. Anyway, i called the Cisco Hotline. They could connect by VPN to RV082, but not the SRP, they didn't know why. Hardware or software failure.
Anyway, i bought another router.
Now i would like to use the SRP527W as a WIFI hotspot only. It doesn't work.
My settings are :
- Router defined as BRIDGE only (using Port lan 4 as Ethernet WAN)
- WAN Interface is assigned 192.168.0.246 / 24
- Gateway for the WAN interface is 192.168.0.254
- Ethernet cable is plugged from LAN4/WAN to my new Modem/Router on LAN3.
- Port LAN2 of SRP527W is defined with VLAN IP Address 192.168.15.254.
When connected to the SRP527W on LAN2, from my computer (192.168.15.200), i can't ping 192.168.0.246 neither 0.254 (gateway is set to 15.254)
Still, when connected to the SRP527W and with the Ping Dagnosis interface, pinging "192.168.0.254" shows "timed out".
I tried almost every configuration, none worked.
Please note that when connected from my computer directly to my new modem/router on port LAN3, with IP Address 192.168.0.200, i can access internet and ping everything. When set as DHCP too, i can grab an IP Address from my DHCP Windows Server.
So, why is the SRP527W unable to work in this configuration ? it seems nothing pass through WAN port.
If i'm right, there is only the WAN port that should be plugged to my modem router. With this settings, SSID should go directly to Internet, and for the other SSID, my LAN (through the modem/router). However, it doesn't work.

[Solved] Wacom pen buttons not working
Hi, this is probably simple to fix, but I don't understand everything well enough to get it set up. I have a Fujitsu T5010 with internal Wacom tablet. The Wacom drivers are installed. I can use the pen to move the pointer, and click. However, the buttons on the side of the pen do not work. Also, the eraser end of the pen seems to register as an ordinary single click, rather than a separate input.

[SOLVED] cat6500 vlan filtering not working
Hello!
I have cat 6500 with SUP32-GE-3B/MSFC2A/PFC3B, s3223-adventerprisek9-mz.122-33.SXJ6.bin,
and WS-X6148-GE-TX module.
And I have a couple of 3750G.
On all of 3750G there is a broadcast filtering of VLAN 4000, and it's working:
mac access-list extended badhosts
permit any host ffff.ffff.ffff
vlan access-map dropbad 10
action drop
match mac address badhosts
vlan access-map dropbad 20

vlan filter dropbad vlan-list 4000
Then i copy this config to 6500, and it's not working. I configured two ports, one is switchport access vlan 4000 and other is switchport capture allowed vlan 4000, and i see on both ports same broadcast traffic. Filter is working, but packets are not dropping. I've tried to find something in manual, but found only about platform cwan acl software-switched, enabled it, nothing changed.

You're right, problem wasn't actually solved. In fact, yesterday I upgraded the whole system again and the same problem showed up, but I got it fixed.
Same scenario: after a boot (shorter than usual), what I had was a tty, but I noticed something that I hadn't noticed the last time: the prompt said "Arch Linux 3.11.[?]".
The kernel version was supposed to be 3.12.[?] so I started investigating and after several attempts, this is how I got the system working again:
1. Chrooted into the system
2. Wiped /boot
3. Re-installed grub
4. Re-installed linux kernel
5. Re-created grub.cfg
6. ???
7. Profit
I'm pretty sure that what originated the problem wasn't a "kernel issue" as I pointed out in my previous post, but it was an incorrect installation of grub: in fact, the grub prompt never showed up before yesterday, the system used to boot straight, ignoring the 5 seconds timeout. -
[Problem Solved] On screen display not working on T60
I replace my xp with a Vista Business.
All the drivers are installed. But the on screen display is not working well. Nothing display when I press the volume up/down/mute button. However, other buttons like Fn+F3, Fn+F5 do display on screen.
Anyone knows how to solve this?

i'm tuning the lucky arch installation on a DELL Studio XPS 13. No troubles in video card configuration, neither in wireless drivers, but i'm getting big problems with audio playback. I mean every kind of audio playback.
I firstly read out the docs and topics around here but couldn't find a solution. Alsaconf says ok, alsamixer channels activated and configuration stored, but audio playing software (kde sounds, juk, amarok, vlc, flashplugin) is not producing any sound. As these softwares are not complaining about audio matters, and the multimedia module in Kde Control is describing this only as not working, i suppose the cause must be pcsp (which i disabled rc.conf).

snd-pcsp and pcspkr both claim the same hardware and are both responsible for making your machine "beep" - i disabled both of them. you don't need them for your audio-playback. looking for issues of your sound-output by suspecting snd-pcsp or pcspkr is a dead end.
getting sound can sometimes be an adventure, i had that problem before. but often it just turns out to be some well hidden mute switch in alsamixer or some volume settings. it might be a problem with kde4's sound server. i don't use kde4 on a regular basis, so i can't help too much with that (back when i used kde3 i had to configure aRts but kde4 discontinued aRts in favor of phonon).
absolutly needed quotation as in the end it has been discovered that in-activating Analog Loopback channels in alsamixer solved the problem
i'm not sure this was the unique step in order to get alsa working (i read and followed suggentions from many many forums and wikis) but finally i found a post where the problem for a sound blaster owner was solved disabling the iec958 channel. That was the input for a deeper research in alsamixer configuration.

[SOLVED] Direct Rendering is not working with Catalyst 8.6-1.
I own an ATI Radeon X1300, and everything was working flawlessly with Catalyst 8.5-1, and when I updated the drivers, DRI stopped working. It has happened with me in the past, and the only solution I had found then was to downgrade the drivers. I appreciate your help.

You have to quit X, then rmmod and modprobe the kernel module - you're still using the old one. (a reboot would technically fix it too)
# rmmod fglrx
# modprobe fglrx

The dmesg output should say you've successfully loaded the 8.501 driver. -

i made a clean default setup with

on a 865G intel box + tried usb and ps2 keyboards + usb mouse
when i start X the mouse and keyboard dont work (and i have to hard reset the box) in all of the setups i tried. the AutoAddDevices fix suggested before does not work this time

automatic xorg.conf with the AutAddDevices False (disable hotplug) lines
dbus and hal enabled in deamons
this lines instruct xorg to use xf86-input-mouse/keyboard instead of evdev. ie it looks like with evdev there is no point in xf86-input-mouse/keyboard

Clientless VPN and Java not working correctly
In a recent discovery we found that the newest version of java will not work with our Cisco SSLVPN setup
We are using an ASA5510 with 8.0.4 IOS version and 6.1.3 ADSM version and most users use an mstsc.exe smart tunnel to rdp into our terminal server farm.
Our laptops are being imaged with Java 6 update 3 (this works fine) then upgraded to Java 6 update 11, after which the smart tunnel appears to launch but a connection cannot be established. Reinstalling the older version of Java resolves the problem.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered a similar problem and found a workaround. Currently, company equipment is not being upgraded to the latest version of Java but personal equipment is a different story.To get the old downloader back follow the directions below.

Currency key for amount of zero
